It was hard to believe every word that came out of Katherine's mouth. She was known to be conniving and conceited. So Shiela knew that she had to be careful when dealing with the vampire.

Shiela grabbed a large tome off one of the shelves in her home and got to researching. The table was covered in her notes and everything that she had. She knew that a vampire and a werewolf was what was needed in order to complete the spell but she was not so clear on the role of the doppelgänger in this spell.

Shiela sighed as she closed another book. Her stack of notes about the curse was piling up but nothing was being said about the doppelgänger she needed to know what role Elena played in all of this.

Thinking about the poor girl, Shiela grabbed her coat and headed on outside. She walked down the street a couple of paces away from her house when she remembered that she forgot to lock the door. She turned around and was about to walk back to her house when she saw someone sitting on her porch. She knew right away what she was when the feeling of wrongness pervaded her senses.

Vampire.

One of the Originals was sitting on the swing of her porch and waiting for her to return. Shiela sighed and walked up the steps to her door.

"Well," she said with no preamble. "What do you want?" This vampire had the appear of a young college student. His dark brown hair and matching eyes told her that he was turned when he was young. The smattering of baby fat around his chin told her that he was barely becoming an adult when he turned.

"How rude. A guest comes to your house and you don't even invite them inside," the vampire said as he rose from her swing. Shiela frowned.

"You know I am not going to invite you into my home, vampire. Now tell me what it is that you want with me." Shiela said, chucking up her chin.

The Original was just a little bit taller than her and she had to lift her chin a little bit to look into his eyes but she did not let that intimidate her. She had faced men much bigger and larger than him and made them feel like nothing. No vampire was going to scare her in her own home.

"I just wanted to say thank you. You and your ancestors have pushed your last descendent to me," he said with a bow. Shiela's brow furrowed and she looked at the man again.

Dark hair and brown eyes, the baby face. This had to be Kol, the one that was known to consort with witches. The one that had some power lingering in him. Shiela's frowned deepened as the last of his words finally hit her. What did he mean about Bonnie?

"What are you saying?" Shiela asked. Kol looked up at her from his bowed position and sent her a glowing smile. His teeth a cut of bright white against his pale skin.

"Just that you and your ancestors have failed spectacularly in protecting the youngest Bennett witch. Tsk, tsk, Ayanna would be ashamed to see what has come out of you lot," Kol said with a click of his tongue.

Shiela's heart stopped in her chest. What did he mean by that? Had she done something to upset Bonnie? Had the girl turned to the vampire in her anger? Shiela frowned as she thought of the last fight that they had.

Yes, she was keeping things from Bonnie but it was only due to her own safety. Bonnie was better off not knowing about the world of magic and death that Shiela inhabited. Look what happened to her mother. Shiela shook her head. She needed to speak to Bonnie. She needed to talk to her right away.

"Don't you dare mention my ancestors to me," Shiela bit out. She bared her teeth at the vampire before she turned and walked down the steps to go and look for Bonnie.

Kol called out from the porch, "And don't worry about Bonnie dearest. I'll make sure to take good care of her."

Shiela needed to talk to Bonnie and fast. She pulled out her phone and dialed Bonnie's number. She waited at the corner, hoping that the girl would pick up and that everything would be okay.

"Hey this is Bonnie. Sorry I can't come to the phone right now. Leave—"

Shiela clicked the phone shut and tried dialing her number again. When she got the same message a second time she sighed and shoved her phone into her purse. She began the long trek to Elena's house wondering if Bonnie was there.

How could the girl do this? Turn to a vampire when it came to matters of magic? What did he know that Shiela and the ancestors did not? The very thought of her granddaughter consorting with his kind made goose flesh pimple her skin.

Shiela caught sight of Elena's house and rushed towards the door. When she reached the door she knocked a little frantically against the door. Jenna opened the door holding a glass of wine in her hand.

"Shiela! It is so good to see you!" Jenna said with a smile on her face. Shiela let out a terse smile to the nice woman who was taking care of Elena and Jeremy.

"Jenna. Always a pleasure to see you. Have you seen Bonnie? I've been looking for her and she isn't answering the phone." Shiela said.

Jenna shook her head. Shiela sighed, thanked the girl and then was about to turn around when Jenna stopped her.

"You look a little frazzled Shiela. Why don't you come inside and we can call the Sheriff. Surely having more eyes on the situation will help don't you think," Jenna said.

Shiela nodded her head and came inside. The inside of the house was immaculate in the way that it could be with two grieving teens. There were things strewn about the room and papers cluttered the dining room table. Jenna sighed as she made room for Shiela at the table and smiled at her.

"Here have a seat," Jenna said. Shiela took the seat and watched as Jenna milled about in the kitchen. "Wine or hot chocolate?"

"Wine please," Shiela said with a sigh as she sunk into the chair. She pulled out her phone and then dialed Bonnie's number one more time but it went straight to voicemail once again.

Jenna grabbed the home phone and dialed the number for the Sheriff while pouring the wine. Jenna finished the call and grabbed the two glasses of wine and brought them over to the table.

"The benefits of small town living," Jenna said. Shiela gave a small laugh and the two toasted before taking sips of their wine. She looked in the dark red of her wine before she took another sip.

"How are the kids doing?" Shiela asked Jenna. The much younger woman said nothing just shrugging her shoulders and sighing.

"They are doing as good as can be expected for kids who just lost their parents. I mean…they don't talk to me. Jeremy is always holed up in his room and Elena… She doesn't say anything. She just goes about her days and never once tells me if there is anything wrong," Jenna said.

Shiela frowned at the words. It must be hard for Jenna. She was a young woman who was in the flowering of her youth and she was stuck in a small town watching two children who did not want to confide in her. Shiela sighed and brought her wine to her lips.

"I know that it must be difficult. These things they take time—" Shiela started but Jenna just scoffed.

"I know that they take time. The therapist that stops by every week or so says so but I don't know how long I am supposed to be waiting. I mean I'm these kids aunt, not their mom. I don't have that connection with them. I was always the fun aunt Jenna and now I'm supposed to be the one disciplining them. It is just a lot." Jenna took a hearty drink of her wine and Shiela sighed.

What could she say that a trained therapist could not say. It was difficult fro Jenna. To go from being the fun aunt to now being the den mother of these two children. Shiela sighed and took another sip of her wine.

The front door slammed shut and Shiela could see from the corner of her eye the long brown hair of the person who was walking into the house. She plastered a smile on her face and turned to fully face Elena.

"Elena dear it has been a while since I last saw you," Shiela said as she looked at the young woman. Elena turned and a smile flittered across her face. It looked like Elena had had a long day.

"Hey Grams," Elena said as she turned and made her way towards the two of them. Grams took another sip of her wine and rose from her chair. She rose from her chair and wrapped her arms around Elena.

When she touched the girl an electric shot went zinging down her spine. Shiela froze as the vision assaulted her.

Elena was there on a stone altar her blood pouring out of her and her eyes wide and glassy. A voice whispered in her ear. "For one to achieve the other must lose." Shiela pulled away from the girl and smiled at her but the smile did not reach her eyes.

"Oh look at how big you have gotten," Shiela said. Elena smiled and turned to Jenna.

Shiela watched as Elena began to talk to Jenna. She now knew the role that the doppelgänger must play in the sun and moon curse. And the only way that it ended was in the same fashion that all ancient magic ended with blood.

It was night when he got the call.

HIs phone buzzed in his pocket and Klaus picked up the phone without thinking about it. He was looking at a painting that he was working on. The blues were not coming out as vibrant as he imagined. Maybe if he added more white to the blue that would help make it a pop of color.

He was contemplating this when his phone rang and he picked it up. It was a number that he did not know and he debated whether or not to answer it but the curiosity got the best of him and he answered the phone.

"Hello?" Klaus said as he stared at the painting. He began to mix paint on his palette wondering how much white he should put in the blue.

"Yes, is this Klaus Mikaelson?" A voice asked on the other end.

"This is he. May I ask who is calling?" Klaus said as he brought his brush back to the canvas before him.

"Yes, this is Carol Lockwood. I'm calling because we want to invite you to a meeting."

Klaus felt the tips of his lips turn up into a smile and he dropped his brush on the side table that was next to him. He let out a small laugh at the thought of working in the council.

"What kind of meeting?" Klaus decided to ask. He was feeling playful. All his machinations coming together under his supervision.

"It is a Founders' Council Meeting. We heard that your family was one of the early settlers here in Mystic Falls and want to invite you to join the council."

Klaus thought back to his younger days when he would play with his siblings in the snow. Yes, they were one of the first settlers to settle here in Mystic Falls, but now when they thought they did.

"Well I would be honored to attend your Founders' meeting," Klaus said. "Just tell me the place and the time."

Carol listed off the place and the time when the meeting would take place and Klaus memorized it all. With that he ended the phone call.

"Oh darling!" Klaus called throughout the house. Caroline's blonde head of hair popped up from inside their bedroom and Klaus ran to her and swept her up into his arms.

Caroline giggled down at him. "What is this all about?"

"I just got the invitation to meet with the council," Klaus said.

Caroline's eyes opened wide and then she slapped her hand against his shoulder. "You're kidding."

"Nope. Just got the call, sweetheart."

"Well this means that we need to start making plans. We need to use them to find the moonstone."

Klaus sighed. "The witches still haven't located it yet?"

"Nope they just narrowed it down to that it is somewhere here in the town, but that is about as far as we get."

Caroline slid down from his arms and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her head on his chest.

"We'll find the moonstone. We'll get it and then you'll be whole again," Caroline said. Her words were muffled by the fabric of his shirt but he heard her loud and clear. "When is the meeting?"

"Tonight." Klaus answered.

"Well then I have a vampire problem to create," Caroline said with a grin on her face.

Klaus grabbed her chin looking in her blue eyes. Without a second thought he brought their lips together in a soft, yet passionate kiss. Caroline sighed into the kiss, her hands reaching up and wrapping around his head. When they pulled away it was with a quiet kind of satisfaction.

Klaus smiled up at her and Caroline wrapped her legs around his waist. "Do you think you can spare some time before your appointment?" Caroline said as she ground her center into his stomach.

Klaus groaned but then sighed. "As much as I would love to sweetheart, I have to make plans in order to make sure that the meeting goes on without a hitch."

Caroline smiled down at him and jumped from his arms landing on the ground with a soft touch of her heeled boots. "That's fine. I'll just have to wear this new lingerie all by myself. Alone. In our room," she teased.

Klaus groaned again and made to grab her but she was faster and skirted just out of his reach. "It is rude to tease."

"Go and make your plans. We can play when you get back." Caroline disappeared down the hall and Klaus went back to his study. He picked up his plaette and began his planning but first he was going to make this color blue work.

Night came faster than he expected. The air was heavy with moisture from the rain just that afternoon, but Klaus stepped out of the car without an umbrella. He could tell by the scent in the air that there would be no more rain. A hidden benefit from being a werewolf.

Klaus began the trek up the drive to the Lockwood mansion. He walked like he owned the place and he felt that he did. His smirk could not be mistaken he knew what he was here and he wanted everyone else to know what he was here.

Stalking up the steps, to the Lockwood house he knocked on the door and waited. Carol Lockwood was the one who opened the door and she did so with a grin.

"Mr. Mikaelson! Welcome! Please come in!" Klaus's smirk grew when he felt the magic dissipate in the air and walked over the threshold of the house. "The Founders' Council meeting will be taking place in my husband's office. If you would just follow me." Carol Lockwood led him across the foyer to a set of double doors.

The office that she opened the doors to were a stained cherry wood which brought out the red tones. Klaus smiled as he took in the office. It was… cozy with all these people here. Damon was posted in the corner with Sheriff Forbes and there was an assortment of people who Klaus could not bother to learn their names.

Sitting in the center of all this was Mayor Lockwood himself, looking all the more foolish sitting there like he owned the room. Klaus smiled and then turned and leaned against the wall beside the door. Let the man think that he was in control. He loved to see him when it was finally stripped away.

"Now, that we are all here I think that I can call this meeting to order," Mayor Lockwood said with a few coughs. The room quieted down and Richard took stock of everyone in the room. "Now Mr. Mikaelson, you must be wondering why you were suddenly invited to join this council."

"Please call me Klaus," he said with a dark smile. Klaus tilted his head, a birdlike action. "I will not lie. I was surprised that this council called me. I thought that this was very exclusive."

"It is exclusive. I'm not one to mince words Klaus. We invited you here because you seem to know more about the animal attacks that are happening around town than we do and we want your help."

"Animal attacks? You mean the drained corpses that have been turning up around town?" Klaus asked. A part of him was giggling with glee. To think that a few corpses here and there would send the town into a tizzy.

"He wants to know if you know anything about vampires," burst Damon. Klaus turned to look at the older Salvatore brother and graced with a beautific smile one that showed all his teeth.

"Vampires. Yes, well I know quite a lot about them. My family and I have had some run ins with vampires before and we have some scar but we have come away unscathed," Klaus said. He dipped his head and looked at the council through his lashes. He knew the act would make him seem smaller, more pliable and innocent. The council bought his act.

"Yes. It is the unscathed part that we are interested in. We want you to get rid of this vampires. Do that and you will have a permanent seat on this council," Mayor Lockwood said. Klaus let the smile show on his face and let them all see it.

"Why that sounds fantastic," Klaus said.

The rest of the meeting was a blur of boredom for Klaus. All they talked about was the vampire attacks and where they were. It seemed that his family was keeping themselves busy in the time that they were not under his direct supervision. Klaus smiled when the meeting was adjourned and walked out of the house.

He was not surprised to see Damon lounging on his car. He expected that the more volatile Salvatore would make his move tonight. The older Salvatore pushed off against his car and stared Klaus down. Klaus smiled at him.

"I know what you're up to Klaus," he said without any preamble.

Klaus pulled his keys out of his pocket. "And what pray tell am I doing?"

"We know all about your Sun and Moon curse and we are not going to let you do it," Damon hissed in a low voice. It took everything in Klaus not to laugh. He wanted to burst out and let the vampire see how ludicrous his assumption was, but he controlled himself he held it in and just cocked his head to the side.

"And why would you be against that?" Klaus asked.

Damon sputtered. "What? Or course I would be against it! Shiela told me you'd have to kill Elena—"

"Yes. One girl. One girl against the whole of vampire kind. You should be handing her over to me mate, not chastising me."

"What? I would never hand over—"

"Besides it isn't like she is your girl. She's your brother's girl. One live for the lives of literally thousands of vampires. Think about it."

Klaus opened his car door and slid inside. It was only when he pulled off did he allow himself to finally laugh.

"I said I wanted to learn magic not be murdered."

Bonnie stared at the dark forest around her. Kol tromped on ahead with a hardhat that had a flashlight attached to it. Kol laughed at her words.

"Darling if I wanted you dead then you would be dead," he said. Bonnie shivered at the cold tone of his voice. Bonnie jumped over and upraised root and looked at ahead. All she could see was nothing but darkness and the few things that Kol's hat illuminated. Bonnie struggled to keep up with the steps of the Original and walked as fast as she could.

"Where are we even going?" Bonnie asked. It seemed like they were wandering aimlessly in the woods. Kol sighed and turned around to face her. Bonnie squinted as the brunt of the light in his hard hat was fully on her and she raised her hands to ward off most of the light.

"We are heading to some place where you can do magic in peace. The best way to practice magic is in nature and somewhere where you can focus. And I know just the place." With that Kol turned around and began walking back into the darkness.

Bonnie sighed and followed after him. He was her only option. Grams was not very forthcoming when it came to magic and was so reluctant to teach her anything. It was a wonder that Grams even taught her the aneurysm spell in order to defend herself.

Why would Grams just teach her that one spell and then refuse to teach her anything else. It was weird. She just wanted to learn magic maybe use some of the magic to find her mother and reunite with her. Ask he why she abandoned Bonnie to her grandmother, but no, Grams wanted to keep all the magic to herself.

"Magic is no game Bonnie. There are consequences to things that you do." She remembered Grams saying that as she taught her the aneurysm spell but she wasn't so sure about why Grams was so reluctant to teach her.

Sighing, Bonnie trekked the terrain of the forest with Kol leading the way. Kol stopped and then turned his head this way and that as if he was looking for something.

"What? What is it?" Bonnie asked. Kol held out a hand behind him to quiet her.

"This is it," Kol said as he looked around the small gathering of trees that they were standing in. Kol nodded his head and sat down on one of the roots of the tree. "This place is the perfect spot to practice your magic."

Bonnie looked around and say nothing special about the cropping of trees that they were sitting in. It looked like the rest of the forest to her. "We are going to practice magic here?" Bonnie asked, skeptical. What made these trees anymore special than the trees that made up the rest of the forest.

Kol's grin brightened and her grabbed the book that was in his backpack. "Don't question my judgement little witch. These trees have been her for centuries. Can't you feel it? The hum of the elements in the air?"

"I don't feel anything other than the mosquitoes biting me," Bonnie said as she slapped her arm. Kol shook his head and then came closer to the young witch.

"First we need to work on your magical awareness. So far you seem to only get impressions when you touch something. This is something that all witches can do, but you need to be able to tell when something magical is in the air. It will help when you can't exactly touch someone."

"Okay. Magical awareness." Bonnies said shaking her hands in front of her. The girl stretched her neck and then looked to Kol. "How do I work on my magical awareness?"

"First you want to draw on your power. You need to make your magic pervade the air around you. Think of it like a second skin."

Bonnie closed her eyes. She needed to work on her magical awareness. Easy. She drew on the well of power deep inside of her and cast it out all around her. The magic touched everything around her and Bonnie gasped as she finally felt the age of the trees around her.

The trees sung with age. It was like feeling moss against her skin. The trees were hearty and strong and they sang of what they saw in their age. Bonnie sucked in a breath as she finally felt the magic all around her.

"Do you feel it?" Kol whispered in her ear. Bonnie could even feel him. He was a blank void, a living darkness, but he had a center of light inside of him. There was light inside the void.

"I feel it," Bonnie said with her eyes still closed.

"And what are the tress telling you?"

Bonnie closed her eyes and listened closer. Nature sang. Everything. From the smallest piece of moss to the largest tree, everything sang with its own internal song. And only Bonnie could hear it. She leaned close to the trees and listened to their song.

They spoke of witches come and gone. Of people who had worshipped at their feet and made altars to them. They sang of children lost at their roots. "They're singing about their worshippers. Of things that people used to do while they were in the forest."

"Good job Bonnie," Kol whispered in her ear. Bonnie opened her eyes and smiled. She placed a hand against the trunk of one of the trees. She rubbed the moss covered bark. This was a good place to practice magic.

"I didn't know that nature had its own voice. I-I've never felt anything like that before," Bonnie said.

"Nature has a voice all its own. It is an exhilarating feeling isn't it? To feel something like that?"

Bonnie nodded her head and then touched her face when she felt something wet on her cheeks. When her hand pulled away it came away with blood and Bonnie gasped at the sight of it.

"Oh dear." Kol said as he brought a handkerchief out of his pocket. He wiped at the blood on her nose and Bonnie held the piece of fabric there to staunch the bleeding. "Seemed you drew a little too much on your own power."

"This can happen?" Bonnie asked.

"Yes. Your power is your life force. It is what powers your spells. Seems the next thing that I am going to have to teach you is how to draw on the powers of nature to assuage your own powers," Kol said.

Bonnie smiled though as she watched the trees around her. It didn't matter what Kol needed to teach her. Bonnie was going to become the best witch ever.

Kol turned back to the large tome that he brought with him and flicked through the pages. "Now where is it?" He muttered to himself. Kol pulled away and Bonnie held the handkerchief to her nose tilted her head back.

"What's that book?" Bonnie asked.

"And old grimoire that has been in the family for a while. It has everything that a witch like you needs to know."

"Good. Because I want to learn as much as I can."

Kol looked up to her with a smirk. "That's what I want to hear."

Bonnie was going to become a full witch. With or without the help of her Grams.
