PREVIOUSLY-

"So which one came first?" Paul asked from his spot on the couch.

"Aurora." I replied, knowing that would make him happy.

"My baby girl just had to one up her brother, huh? She might've been younger in the womb but she's his older sister now." He said proudly.

"And their mama's a wolf." Jared stated. "I have to say, I didn't see that one coming."

"None of us did, but we'll figure it out."

As I sat there feeding my daughter, I let myself think about how I could've possibly phased into a wolf.

I knew for a fact that there was no Quileute ancestry in my dad's side or my mother's side, which didn't make any sense at all. There had to be a gene somewhere.

I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard Paul groaning. I looked over at him and saw Jared helping him into a sitting position.

"You're sure you feel okay enough for this?" Jared asked him.

"Come on bro, some cracked ribs and a scratch aren't going to stop me from holding our kids for the first time." Paul replied, holding his arms out for Elijah.

Jared cautiously placed our son into his arms, and I smiled as I watched Paul look down at him in awe.

"Hey little man. Daddy's sorry he wasn't there to see your grand entrance but I'm here now." Paul whispered to him. I felt tears welling up in my eyes at the exchange. "I'm glad Papa was here to take good care of you while Mama helped get the bad guy."

"So what happened out there?" Jared asked after a moment.

"Dude, B was so chill when she phased in. She didn't freak at all; she was just ready to go. She killed the bastard too." Paul told him proudly.

Jared looked over at me in surprise. "You were the one to kill him?"

"He was hurting my mate and my family was in danger. I did what I had to." I replied solemnly. I didn't like the fact that I'd killed someone, no matter if he was a vampire or not. I ended someone's life. I only took comfort in knowing that it was to protect my family.

"She was fucking badass, J. Should've seen her in action. It was hot as hell seeing my black and white beauty in all her glory." Paul stated. Interesting.

"My wolf is black and white?" I questioned.

"Oh yeah, baby. Fucking gorgeous. A little smaller than the rest of us but fast as hell. I might've been injured but even the other guys had trouble keeping up." He replied.

"I agree, babe. Your wolf is beautiful, just like you are." Jared told me as he leaned over the back of the recliner to watch me feed Aurora.

As soon as she was done feeding and happily asleep, Elijah started crying. Jared carried him over to me and traded me him for Aurora so that Paul could hold her too.

I started to feed Elijah while I watched Paul with Aurora.

"There's my baby girl. You're going to be so beautiful, just like your mama. I'm going to have to fight off the boys right and left and I'm sure Papa and your brother will be right there with me." He whispered to her as I smiled. "Spirits, she's so tiny."

"We still don't even know how much they weigh. Jared tried calling Sue while I was in labor but her phone went straight to voicemail." I told Paul.

"Oh yeah I know it did. The fucker cut the phone line to the res first thing. Cell phones still work but home phones don't and I know Sue doesn't have a cell." Paul informed us. So that's why it hadn't worked.

"Is the line to Forks still active?" I asked him quickly. He shook his head no. "Someone needs to get Charlie down here."

"I'll go get him." Jared told me before kissing me and both babies on the forehead.

"What, I don't get a kiss too?" Paul asked jokingly with a fake pout.

"Not a chance in hell. Love you guys." Jared yelled as he ran out the door.

"No kiss but he still told me he loved me. How rude." Paul said laughing before wincing. Laughing must've hurt his ribs.

"Are you sure you're okay, Paul?" I asked him quickly.

"No internal damage, baby. My ribs will be healed by the morning and this scratch will stitch itself back together pretty soon. I'm good, I promise. Now it's your turn to tell me how you are. Physically and mentally. A lot of shit has happened today." He replied.

I thought about my answer for a minute.

"Physically I'm fine. Great, even. I don't feel any of the after effects of their birth or anything. I'm kind of tired but I'm sure phasing for the first time will do that." I began before sighing. "Mentally though I'm exhausted, confused, overjoyed and sad all at the same time. I don't understand how I could possibly be a wolf. There's nothing in my family tree at all."

"It's gotta be there somewhere, B. Even if that means someone—"

"Cheated, I know. I have a feeling, but I don't know how to go about getting an answer or what I'd do with the information if it was true." I replied, voicing my fears.

"What do you think it is?" He asked me.

"You know already how free-spirited Renee is… She left Charlie when I was only 4 months old. I can't help but think there's a reason behind that." I whispered, looking down at Elijah.

"So you think Charlie's not your real dad?" He questioned.

"Charlie will always be my real dad no matter what, but I think he might not be my biological dad… I just don't know Paul. I don't even know how to ask if it could be true. We're going to have to tell Charlie. He knows about the gene being a requirement to phase so he's going to know something is up." I told him worriedly. "We can't even tell Renee about the babies being born already. She can't know about anything supernatural."

"We'll figure it out, Bella. I promise we'll get the answers somehow." He told me.

Elijah finished feeding and I picked him up, carefully walking over to the couch where Paul was sitting (trying to keep the blanket around me while doing so).

I sat down next to him and rested my head on his shoulder as we both held our children.

Soon enough Charlie arrived with Jared. I was still amazed that I could hear his cruiser from quite a distance, then hear him walking up to the front door.

When they both came in, Charlie's eyes focused in on me and Paul, then on our little bundles in our arms.

"I can't believe my grandbabies are here." Charlie said, getting choked up as he walked over and looked down at them. "What are their names?"

"Elijah and Aurora." I told him happily. "Aurora came first."

"You did good, Bells. They're beautiful." Charlie told me, placing a hand on my bare shoulder.

"Thanks, Dad." I replied. "Did Jared fill you in on anything on your way down?" I asked but saw Jared shaking his head from where he was standing behind Charlie.

"No, he just said the babies were here and that something had happened." Charlie replied.

"Something did happen. Right after the babies were born, I phased. I'm a wolf, Dad." I told him after taking a deep breath. Better to just come out with it.

He looked between me and the two boys who were both nodding.

"A badass wolf at that, Pops." Paul told him.

"You're a wolf? But how?" He questioned.

"That's what we're trying to figure out. I have to have the gene somehow." I responded in a quiet tone, knowing it was a sensitive subject.

He took a deep breath and rubbed his fingers over his mustache.

"Your mother… I always thought that there was something she was hiding when she took off with you. We'd – uh – hit a rough patch in our marriage about the time she would've gotten pregnant with you… She told me that your due date was a month after you were actually born but you didn't look premature at all. It was always a thought in the back of my mind, I just didn't want it to be true." Charlie told me sadly as I looked up at him.

"No matter what the real story is, you'll always be my dad, and you're the best dad a girl could ever have." I replied with teary eyes. His eyes started watering as well and he leaned down to kiss my forehead.

"And you'll always be our Pops too." Paul responded for both himself and Jared. "And one hell of a grandpa to these little pups."

Charlie smiled at Paul's statement.

"Do you have any clue who it could've been by chance?" Jared asked him carefully after a moment of silence.

"The only thing I can think of is that someone from the res stopped by the house looking for Renee about a month after she took off. He was pretty angry when I told him she'd moved out of state with Bella." Charlie told us.

"Who was it?" Paul asked him.

Charlie took in a deep breath and replied. "Joshua Uley."

My jaw dropped.

"So you're saying I could be Sam's sister?" I questioned after a moment of complete shock.

"Black and white wolf, Bella. Sam's wolf is black." Jared mentioned.

"It's the only thing I think would make sense. Joshua had a reputation of sleeping around with all kinds of women. Hell, I even heard Tiffany Call say that he'd been with her a time or two way back in the day before he up and left to Seattle." Charlie said, causing me to immediately look between Paul and Jared with wide eyes.

"Embry." We all said at the same time.
