Kuvira halted her advance as she found saw the burning inferno heading towards her. With a swift motion of her arm, she ripped off a large piece of platinum from the airship, shielding herself from the wall of fire. The Colonel took a quick glance to the battleground: it was Ghazan, the lavabender melted the earth at about 30 meters away from the Outer Ring, creating a pool of lava that prevents the enemies' vehicles from ever getting the chance to drill into the walls.
"Dispatch 3, continue to support the ground force!" she radioed the Special Forces as she used the platinum board to block a series of compressed air blasts from the avatar. "Dispatch 4, bring down the airship!" She was clear with her priority, and that priority was not to fight the avatar.
Two flight of biplanes surrounded the aircraft. The first couple of shots from their grenade launchers dismantled the airship's weapons. With its cannons no longer functioning, the biplanes could deal free damages to the ship, and the pilots exploited this. They aimed at the control cabin of the ship, the explosives blew off the windshield and destroyed the control panels. President Asami, who has obviously been operating the airship, was forced to abandon the ship, followed by the crew, all of whom opened their parachutes.
"This is not over, Kuvira!" Korra's eyes were filled with rage, as she shot a hateful glare at the Platinum-bender before she took off from the aircraft, diving down for the president.
As soon as the avatar was gone, Kuvira immediately started to dismantle the airship. She teared open the platinum covering at the centre of the surface, as she launched a metal cable to get herself down from the top of the ship, she sliced the airship in halves, from the top to the bottom. As the aircraft started to descend, a biplane flew towards the Colonel, who pulled herself onto the plane with her metal cable.
The avatar caught her friend with her arms, "hold around my waist, Asami." Korra said, as she opened her wingsuit, "let's get you out of here." She bends the air around her, creating an current that changed the direction of their flight, away from the battlefield.
…
Korra was in rage, for the first time after her parent's untimely pass, she felt her blood boiling. After witnessing my parents' being murdered in front of me, Asami has become the only person I truly care, she thought, how dare you threaten to take her away from me? As soon as she brought the president back to the camp, she headed straight back to the battlefield. Using her airbending and with the help of her wingsuit, she arrived at her destination in a matter of minutes. She landed onto a biplane, but this time, instead of destroying the engines, she buried her fire daggers deep into the pilot's throat. Neither did she spare the other crews on the plane. The avatar didn't hesitate to reproduce what she had done on the rest of the air force, she extended her arms, opened the wingsuit and moved onto her next target.
It was not a fight, but simply a slaughter. With the crews being murdered, no one was left to operate the planes. Suyin's observed the scene with utter terror as she saw the biplanes dropping down like flies, crashing into the ground.
When Korra located the biplane that boards Kuvira, hatred took over her senses. Her eyes started to glow as the avatar state was triggered. She abandoned the wingsuit as she switched to jets of flames to propel herself in the air. The avatar was approaching to her enemy at a lightning speed.
"Jump!" yelled the Platinum-bender, "don't open the parachute!"
The moment after Kuvira and the crew members abandoned their biplane, it was reduced into pieces under a stream of highly pressurized fire. The flame has the signature white colour of the avatar. Korra resumed her rampage on the Platinum-bender, who was freefalling in the air.
"Get away from me! As far as you can!" The Colonel ordered the crew.
The avatar was coming at her, unleashing an enormous blade of wind, which she only managed to avoid due the fact that her body was spinning during the freefall. Korra followed up with a powerful gust of wind, Kuvira only had a second to turn the earth beneath her into sand before being slammed onto the ground.
The Platinum-bender struggled to stand up, it was the old injury, she thought, apparently these ribs weren't fully healed. The avatar launched another stream of fire before landing onto the ground. She put off the fire with sand, only finding the avatar aiming her with a boulder the size of a small mountain.
There was no way for Kuvira to stop the boulder, but she wasn't someone who would accept her fate without putting up a fight. The boulder came to a halt just inches before crushing her head: Ghazan and Suyin were on her sides. They nodded at her, and together, with a splitting motion of their arms, three master earthbenders sliced the boulder in half.
At the same time, the Earth Republic army was gaining grounds. Not only did they fought off waves of attacks from the enemy troops, but eventually, they also managed to chase them down. The gates of the city walls were opened, and two battalions of metalbenders and mechasuits started their attacks, pushing the enemy away from the city of Ba Sing Se.
"You can win the battle against us, but you have lost the war." Suyin spoke to the avatar.
"You're right." The glow on her eyes faded as Korra managed to regain her reasons. This time, she didn't faint, "but I wouldn't let go without a fight."
Ghazan immediately started to melt the boulder into lava, sending the liquid earth back to the avatar. However, the flow of the magma halted as Korra solidified the melted earth with one hand, streams of steam shooting out from another hand of hers.
"That's… heat bending," Kuvira spoke in awe, "I never thought a waterbending avatar would advance her firebending to such a degree."
