Listen With Your Heart Chapter 29
There's no other way to describe it. Phoebe is in shock. That's the only explanation for it.
After what most view as an unprovoked assault on a middle school that makes no logical sense police, the fire department, and paramedics converge on site. How fortunate that none of the teachers or any of the student body have been injured, but many are going to probably be having sessions with the school therapist for the foreseeable future for shock and trauma scheduled. Parents are definitely going to make sure of it. A couple of them have shown up already and are not letting their kids out of their sight.
But unlike them Phoebe is suffering in silence. Ever since discovering what her father has really been up to she's been nearly unresponsive. Gwen has her safety away from everyone else out of prying eyes after they were both checked out in order to keep out appearances.
All the while keeping an eye on Phoebe's condition Gwen has been in the middle of trying to hail Peter on the phone. There's no doubt Peter has left in pursuit of the Lizard before he hurts anyone else. For Phoebe's peace of mind and as a good friend she wants to make sure he's all right and unhurt from the fight.
Finally, after multiple calls one after another one manages to break through.
Gwen makes sure to keep a keen eye on their surroundings each and every time she makes one of these numerous calls so that the risk of anyone nearby eavesdropping on the conversation can catch anything.
Gwen feels a huge surge of relief the very second Peter finally does pick up on the other end of the phone line.
"Hey," said Peter, whispering just in case his quarry is nearby and not wanting to reveal that he's on the Lizards trail.
"Where are you," demands Gwen, hurriedly.
"I'm fine. I'm okay. I'm in the sewer tracking him," informs Peter. "I got to stop him before anyone else gets hurt. But we need an antidote. Do you know how to run a serum?"
Nodding, Gwen said "Yeah. I do it for Connors all the time."
Pleased by this answer, Peter said "Okay, great. Great. Listen, I need you to go to Oscorp. I need you to access the cross-species file. It's a blue serum. File 12389."
"All right. Got it. I'm on my way," agreed Gwen.
"Gwen…how's Phoebe doing," said Peter, wanting to know how his twin has reacted to the news.
Quietly in a worried tone of voice, Gwen admits "Not well. She has spoken anything once I confirmed her suspicions."
Inwardly cursing at this, Peter said "Make sure she gets to a safe place. I'm gonna make everything right."
Peter then hung up now newly incited with further determination.
Putting her phone away Gwen turns around and is surprised to see Phoebe is standing right behind her, having heard everything.
"That was Peter," she asked.
"Yes," said Gwen.
Sucking in a deep breath to steel herself and letting it out slowly, with a no argument expression on her face, Phoebe said "I'm coming with you."
Already shaking her head in concern and refusal, Gwen said "I don't think that's a good idea. You're in no condition-."
"Please," said Phoebe a tad bit brokenly, hints of tears glistening in the corners of her eyes again as she battles to keep it together. "I need to come with you."
The two lock eyes in a brief confrontation of opposing wills before Gwen gives in, aware there's no use fighting her friend when she's like this.
As the two head off to Oscorp to do as Peter has asked Gwen has a gut feeling allowing Phoebe to tag along is a terrible idea, but what can she do?
Besides perhaps Gwen can do a better job at stopping Connors than any of them can. The bond between a father and his daughter is a power force that isn't taken likely in any form of challenge or a force to be reckoned with. Maybe it can work a miracle.

I cannot begin to describe how apologetic I am for taking so heinously long to get back on track. From this day forward that's all gonna change. Especially since now that I have some more story ideas in mind to add to my profile.
