The case had been awful. Noll had been possessed, spirit zombies had attacked, and members of the client's family had died… The whole ordeal left Mai with an empty feeling in her chest. Though she was no stranger to the power of spirits, she couldn't shake how traumatic it had all been.
She waited next to Noll's hospital bed, holding his hand. She hadn't meant to provoke him into nearly killing himself. But Mai had known nothing of his capabilities, or the physical toll it took.
A tear trailed her cheek before dropping onto the pristine sheet. Mai blamed herself for putting Noll in such a position. She blamed herself for not understanding her visions sooner.
"Naru tends to let his pride get in the way," came Lin's voice. Mai looked back at him. "You shouldn't feel bad, Taniyama-san. Naru knew the consequences of his actions."
"But I shouldn't have yelled at him like that! I pushed him into it!"
Lin offered a smile, "He made the choice himself. He shouldn't have allowed himself to be provoked." Lin's face fell immediately after speaking, and he held a lost look in his eye.
Mai turned to look at her colleague, "Will he be okay?"
Snapping out of his thoughts, Lin nodded, reassuring himself as well, "He will be fine… He has you."
