Read and review thanks.
Rain fell over Henry. When most people grieved under the rain one might feel their pain slowly wash away. He however felt an anger he never felt before. Emma beside him also grieved but in a different way. Gold who Emma allowed one day of freedom for his sons funeral wore it in his own way as well. Henry felt like the only one hurting over this loss because while they grieved he was the only one who loves his father. Not past tense like Emma and not imaginatively loved him like his father.
Regina was a variant of her own. Not grieving but aching at Henry's pain. Looking woeful enough to be taken as someone feeling great loss. She knew loss and she looked so broken telling him his father died. Emma tried to but could get the words out the right way. Like she always did she stumbled over being to straight forward or easing into it. This was where he wished she'd done it like a bandaid. He felt so sore thinking about everything she said.
He was chased, he was shot, he was tumbled around in the car crash, and while he made it through surgery he didn't survive. Without meaning to she said something about the people brought in for causing this. He wanted to see their faces. Look them in the eye and ask them why they kill his father. Until then he looked at Neal Cassidy's gravestone. A lot of people from town came but not as many as he felt should have. Now it was just him, his moms, and Gold.
"Hey Henry I know this is where you wanna be but everyone was thinking the diner might be a great place to have a memorial dinner. People might give you some good impressions of your dad from while he was here." Emma finally fought the pit in her stomachs to ask him this.
"can I meet you there I just need a few minutes alone."
"Not to long okay." Regina says as Emma looks to her for what she thinks is best. "We have to take Gold back anyway so we'll be a little bit too."
"He's not gonna pull any tricks is he?" Henry felt a little concerned.
"No to be honest your dad was really the whole reason he did anything bad. Cuz he doesn't know how to love like we love he knows how to control what he loves. Without him he might never feel a desire to do anything."
"I feel like yelling at everyone." He admits feeling both his moms look at him with watery eyes.
"We know and you can yell if you want but we cant take it out on people who didn't have anything to do with Neal dying."
"Mom took grandma's heart when she was mad. I want, who ever did this, I want their heart."
"To do what?"
"So they never do this again."
"Okay my prince. We'll talk about this later. Finish here and head to the diner." Regina says knowing the feeling he his having but also knowing having someones heart is much more tempting than just keeping it.
As they left him alone in the small sleepy town Henry stood there slowly asking himself what could he do to make this al feel better. Then it hit him. His moms were going to the psych ward to put Gold back in the ward specifically made for the crazy villains in the town. Walsh, Gold, anyone in the future. They probably hadn't done anything with the people responsible yet since they weren't from town or the enchanted forest and likely didn't have anything to do with magic.
He could make it to the station in no time and then the diner. Just to ask questions he told himself. If he walked in and found himself so angry at least he could yell at them goodbye to his dad with tears rolling down his face he smeared them off his cheeks and made his way over to the station. While he was walking in he could hear an frustrated growl from some woman. Was one of the deputies there? He thought everyone was at the funeral. In the main room though he saw a cell with a woman in it. She hadn't spotted him yet.
"You! You shot my father?" He asked he recognized her. She was his dads girlfriend. Once seeing her face on his phone and her name. She notices him and stops kicking at the bars. "He trusted you!"
"I actually didn't shoot him."
"You're the only one here."
"I've been here alone for a whole day I'm starved. They took the guy that shot Neal."
"Why would you hurt him? Why hurt anyone here?" He asked his anger still there just under control at the moment.
"Because magic needs to be destroyed. It's the problem with everything in the world."
"You want to ruin my home because of magic?" He'd always hated magic when he thought his mom was a bad person but now… now it was oddly what made his family feel whole. It was magic that mad his moms able to fall in love and so many others too in town now. "that's not fair magic isn't all bad."
"Right your dad is dead because even with magic all around he couldn't be saved."
"Shut up don't talk about my dad. Its not magic it was you and your partner! A gun!"
"Henry!" A strange voice came as the door behind them opened. He didn't recognize this person but they knew him. "You can't be here I know you moms are dealing with Gold but that doesn't mean you can do whatever makes you feel better. we need to get you to the diner." Feeling caught Henry fights with his inner emotions. He turns away from the strange redhead who knew where he was supposed to be.
"I'm not done with you." He says before walking out of the department. How did this woman come across him anyway? Wasn't she a witch like his mom said why would she walk through town? "you must be the newest person in town my moms talked about."
"I was just going to see Regina and give you more support. I know I didn't know you or your father but I know your moms a little and they don't want you risking your life around that criminal."
"What are you even doing around here?"
"Just walking getting to see more of the town learning to love this place not just hop from place to place with magic."
"Whatever.. I'm going to the diner now." He didn't really remember her name but he knew that she was his moms sister. If she said anything they might think she's lying and so he walked fast as if to beat her there to not look like they came together. Zelena while she hadn't gotten very far with earning Emma or Regina she felt she was getting there. Once in the few months that she'd been there she'd spoken to Emma briefly and even Regina had some breakfasts with her though she never really talked.
She wasn't invited in for family stuff or anything yet but she didn't hold out on hoping for it yet. As Henry walked faster she knew just what he was planning on doing but its not like Emma wouldn't be able to tell the truth either way. Although she wasn't going to rat him out anyways. She wasn't a brown nosed witch she was just going to give her support and trying having a conversation with her sister.
Poor Henry the moment he walked in to the diner he was overwhelmed with the looks around the room. Sympathy, pity, or grief. His moms pulled him in and sat down together with some of the family. In one corner of the diner something unrelated was happening Snow was thumping Davids chest with a first and crying. She wasn't sad about Neal though. He wanted to know so he went to to bathroom to walk past them.
"Snow you can't be upset about Neal for such a terrible reason. Emma is with Regina even having a baby with her. Neal was never going to happen with Emma. I'm not holding you through whatever you want to make up in your head. I haven't been hold you in months we are over tears aren't going to fix it Snow."
"But who will we both love if not each other David?"
"Well anyone will do I bet you if someone would come in that door they would be better than you." Unknowingly he said it just as Zelena walked in.
Henry sees this and is quite surprised at this. He knew his grandparents were separated but would his grandpa really date his moms sister to spite Snow and her antics. He told himself it wasn't possible but when he left the bathroom something had in fact made David take up a conversation with the redhead anyways. Getting back to the table he could hear his moms whispering slightly.
"That's just weird." His mom said shivering at the thought.
"I don't know it think its strangely fitting. They both come from simple home life like farming or something and they are just trying to break a pattern of bad habits. Dad usually follows every word out of Snows mouth not lately of course but still. Zelena is trying to mend bridges with you and not react so bitterly to jealousy."
"Whatever you say dear. Even Aurora and Mulan are less cringy than them together."
"They are doing pretty great together but I think you just don't want to admit you want to see Zelena happy. She came here mad and broken you think she's been doing so well you just hate admitting it."
"Can we not bring up Aurora and Mulan. They just tick me off." Malificent says. She's personally been watching Lily like a hawk.
"What's got you so wound up about them. Isn't Aurora Lily's mom?" Emma asks checking the vibes of their conversation from over her shoulder and looking back to her mother and Mal.
"Sure it doesn't mean I want her breaking my daughters heart like she broke mine." Emma shrugs its not so hard to understand that. For a little while everyone is quiet. At which point a few people come over to share their condolences. Henry felt terribly awkward at each one but felt a bitter sting in his chest every time someone said that Neal was a great person or something like that. Eventually the place started emptying out leaving Granny, Ruby, and Belle alone with the Swan-Mills family.
Belle really felt she had begun caring for Neal as he needed. Sure she wasn't his mother but he saw her as a woman willing to love his father at some point and being brave enough to leave. She was in no way as hurt as Henry but still he could see her true feelings as clear as day. The only people left was Lily, Aurora, Mulan In one area of the diner. Morgana and Ruby chatting at the bar near Belle and Granny. Emma, Regina, Malificent, Ingrid and Henry sat in their booth. Well it was his and his mothers booth but as time went on their small family was growing bigger.
David and Zelena near the bathroom tables seemed to still be in a full conversation. No one was really showing the loss anymore and with that henry asked to go home. He couldn't stand seeing so many happy faces right now. He knew it was a sign that family made things better that loved ones could ease the pain but he didn't want to be free of his pain yet. He really didn't want to forget it.
"Of course kid I feel the need to get home too. Ive got more work to do with the guys at the jail anyways." As they left no one else seemed to be ready to go home yet but Granny would get people on their way soon enough.
"Did you want any of the food people brought?" Regina asked but henry had ate his plate. He shook his head. It was to be expected but Regina looked to Emma with worry in her eyes. On the drive home Emma held her hand and ran her thumb over hers to ease her mind. Henry was the greatest kid, his boundless good versus evil beliefs aside, he was never a bad kid.
He disappeared to his room for most of the night but before his bed time the pair sat him down to talk about what he said earlier that morning. Knowing Henry before the loss would never resort to magic they urged him to not think that way and to always talk to them. He looked as if he wanted to be alone the rest of the night. Trying not to force him they let him knowing he'd be home with his mom all day for a few days anyways.
The next morning Regina went to collect his school work after checking Henry was sound asleep still so she could make breakfast before he woke up. Meanwhile Emma went to see Greg. Knowing that they had not discussed what was gotten just two days ago from him Emma choose to get records from the department about Owen. The only thing that she Came across was a child and father having disruptive behavior. The father was arrested but then there was no release date. Like Owen/Greg said he left town without his father and no real reason why.
With Regina's pregnancy she hardly wanted to stress her for details. Regina did bad things in her past but since Henry she has been working so hard to mend her own heart turn back to tides of darkness. Emma could relate to than. Unfortunately no man people would know this event unless involved. Archie may be able to give her answers.
Deciding to call him up and ask him to meet her was all she could do. So down the ward block made especially for Gold and other harmful people Emma explained the situation to Archie as soon as he arrived. He looks puzzled but near the end of the story he seems more aware than she thought he might be.
"This an investigation Archie I need answers and you know I'm not going to react negatively towards whatever is said."
"I know but this is something I must stress is bad for Greg or Owen. Him being made to sit here must remind him of how people treated him in the real world. I know he was of a clear mind enough to decide to kidnap Regina but as far as I can tell he may have latched on to what would get him answers now he is here and caught perhaps we can fix this."
"Alight I'll let you talk to him first."
"Thanks." He enters the room "Hi Owen I'm Archie not sure if you remember me."
"Maybe." Not a true response.
"Regina once told me a lot about you. You and your father." At this his eyes flew up. Was he really going to get answers. "I won't be able to give you peace on this until you choose to make your own choice here."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean for information you have to give everything you know. So say I know your dad is dead or alive. If you want to know I will need more than just information. If he's alive we need assurances you give up your dreams of revenge and leave never coming back. If he's dead the peace of knowing once and for all should matter more than directing your anger on a person or whole town. I need to know your trip here ends you go on with your life and make something better of it."
"Why would I agree to that."
"Your sanity really I assume you've been diagnosed. Unfortunately seeing how we don't quite exist no one knows you're here. If you don't help worst case you get put in a room for good here. Best case you will force the sheriff to make more room for you in a cell. You'll never leave. I'm here to help that's all. Listen to your subconscious. What is it telling you to do."
"I'll tell you everything honest. Just don't leave me here." Sighing Emma knew she was gonna have to keep this promise which meant finding out from Mal or her mom if a memory charm could be done. Archie looked back field just a moment before taking Emma's silence to mean he can begin. She notes everything he is saying and sends a group message to everyone with magic even Morgan's had a phone.
Emma: Anyone know something that can take away memories?
Mal: Aside from the town line… a few potions some spells not many are very precise.
Mom: She's asking for the outsiders a potion is more potent. More likely to stick after they leave.
Regina: definitely potion I should know I still don't remember learning about the savior being Henry's mother I just assumed that I made myself forget something about his parentage so I had no reason to treat him differently.
Emma: you did that for him *melting in awe.*
Regina: shut up.. I know now that's what I found out because well you're here obviously.
Lily: umm Emma if I were you I'd marry this woman sooner than later she's to good to not make an honorable woman of you know what I mean. Xoxo Gina!
Mal: Lily! Oh my gawd I'm gonna kill you.
Morgana: Dear I think even I know not to go there.
Mom: I don't know guys I really like the sound of Mills-Swan.
Emma: mom we talked about this…Regina probably hates this idea.
Regina: I don't know about that I happen to like Swan-Mills more.
The next thing Emma realizes her mouth is hanging open when she hears Archie calling her name. He's not en in the room with Owen. He's right in front of here waiting for her to respond.
"Ah-hem sorry. All done?"
"Yeah but what's going on I was calling your name a few times now."
"Oh Um got off topic but I was talking to everyone about memory potions."
"You're going to send him out there with no memory?"
"Not entirely. We'll figure something fair out."
"Okay well I'll write you up a report of everything I got from him and my analysis."
"Oh thanks doc."
"Bye now Emma." With that he said goodbye and hoped Emma good luck as he suspected the man was mentally unstable if the right circumstances came along. Tell him his father was gone then was the only suitable way it seemed he could bare the news.
Emma found Owen crying walking in at this time might not be what he needed so Emma clicked on her speaker and calmly told him she'd see him later. She does leave him with a affirmed approval to the plan set by Archie before sending him to his room. The nurse on the floor promised to check on him regularly. No one asked questions but she had already explained her needs and reasons.
Meanwhile on Emma's phone.
Mal: Whoop whoop double wedding.
Lilly: Am I safe?
Mom: yes sweetie.
Morgana: I don't know is Regina joking you guys would know best.
Regina: its alright Lily I wouldn't hurt a hair on your head.
Lily: Aw that's good to know. where's Em?
Mal: Em did you faint?
Morgana: I can look for her in my crystal ball.
This went on leaving them all wondering were Emma had gone while Regina had let it be known marriage was an option.
