Chapter 29: The Evenstar
Night fell upon the camp. Everyone was asleep, except Trent. Trent could not sleep and smoked his pipe, as there was nothing else to think about… except the safety of the people of Rohan, with the help of Dustin and Max. When Trent continued to smoke… he began to hear very bewitching, yet enchanting voices inside his head…
The voices of his elf-lady love, Kira Ford…
.
.
.
.
The light of the Evenstar does not wax and wane…
.
It is mine to give to whom I will...
.
Like my heart…
.
Go to sleep…
.
.
.
.
"…I am asleep," replied Trent…
.
Then next thing he knew… Trent was lying on a chaise, in a very enchanting, peaceful place, with his eyes closed. He slowly opened his eyes and looked upon the lovely Kira before him, smiling down at him.
.
"…This is a dream," said an enchanted Trent.
"Then it is a good dream," Kira said quietly, bending down to kiss him.
.
Kira then slowly kissed her lover lightly and passionately… on the lips. Trent returned her kiss, as he reached up his hand to gently caress her cheek. His kiss was just as breath taking when Kira kissed him. After moments of passion… Kira released Trent's lips…
.
"…Sleep," she whispered once more… as she kissed her lover's face.
.
Kira then slowly rose from Trent… and stepped away to look out from the window, looking at the waterfall that was just outside their room. trent closed his eyes, after enjoying the moment of passion he just received. He then opened his eyes slowly… and turned his head to look over at Kira…
.
"Min lû pennich nin, (You told me once)," said Aragorn silently, "…i aur hen telitha (…this day would come)."
Kira turned to face Trent with her reply, "Ú i vethed... nâ i onnad. Boe bedich go Ethan… Han bâd lîn (This is not the end… it is the beginning. You must go with Etjan… That is your path)."
.
Trent smiled a little. However, Trent still felt a little uncertain about his true path as he stood up from the chaise and walked slowly over to Kira.
.
"Dolen i vâd o nin (My path is hidden from me)," said Trent, sadly
"Si peliannen i vâd na dail lîn. Si boe ú-dhannathach (It is already laid before your feet. You cannot falter now).
"…Kira-"
"Shh… " Kira hushed him, resting her fingers on his lips, "ae ú-esteliach nad... (If you trust nothing else)…
"Estelio han (Trust this)," Kira said, as she slowly moved her hand down Trent's neck to rest her hand on the Evenstar pendant, "…estelio ammen (Trust us)."
.
Trent then laid his hand on hers, clasping it into his hands. He wanted to believe his Elf-lady love so much. And part of him actually did. He wanted to obey her to trust their love for each other. However… Trent remained conflicted, being endlessly burdened with the sins of his ancestor, Scott Jason, even when he and Kira gazed into each other's eyes, for mere loving, yet breathless moments…
.
And together… they both shared a brace of warm… loving… passionate kisses. Trent and Kira then looked into each other's eyes once more as Trent laid his hands gently on her neck, sliding them up to her elegantly pointed ears…
.
They kissed again, turning their warming loving kisses of passion… into long moments of heated desperation for each other. The lovers have both signified that they've sworn to be with each other… for the rest of their lives.
.
Trent, after having his romantic dream with Kira the last night, walked with a somber expression on his face, even as he wore the Evenstar pendant around his neck. He would cherish that dream forever, remembering their oath to be with one another forever. But even so… Trent realized the difference between reality and fantasy, as he would probably never see Kira again. He had even wished for her to sail to Valinor with her kin… just as he told Galadriel on his last day at Lothlorien.
Tori then asked, "where is she? The woman who gave you that jewel."
Trent smiled, but said nothing. He then recalled his conversation that night with Sensei Kanoi, near his mother's grave before leaving with the Fellowship the next day…
.
.
.
"Our time here is ending," said Sensei Kanoi, "…Kira's time is ending. Let her go, let her take the ship into the west. Let her bear away her love for you to the Undying Lands. There it will be evergreen."
Trent replied, "but never more than a memory."
"I will not leave my daughter here to die," countered Sensei Kanoi, with a stern look on his face.
"She stays because she still has hope."
"She stays for YOU! She belongs with her people!"
.
Trent then walked away from his foster father to take some time to think of what Sensei Kanoi said. Part of him agreed with Sensei Kanoi. Perhaps Kira had to leave with her Elven kin. On the day that the Fellowship was to depart, Trent had his gear ready to leave for Mordor. But then… Kora came in front of her lover, a little annoyed at him for trying to slip away. Trent gazed at her regretfully, as if he had to explain himself to her, which he would have to tell her everything that was on his mind.
.
"Nach gwannatha sin? (Is this how you would take your leave?)," asked Kira, "Ma nathach hi gwannathach or minuial archened? (Did you think you could slip away at first light - unnoticed?)"
"Kira," Trent replied sadly as he reached out and grasped her hands, "Ú-ethelithon (I will not be coming back)."
As the quarreling pair shared last words with each other…
.
"Estelio guru lîn ne dagor (You underestimate your skill in battle)," returned Kira, not understanding his meaning, "…ethelithach (... you will come back)."
"Ú-bedin o gurth ne dagor (It is not of death in battle that I speak)."
"O man pedich? (What do you speak?)," Kira asked, dread starting to set in.
.
Trent had to tell Kira what was on his mind. It was obvious to him that she would not let up… until she knew what Trent was thinking… and what Elrond told him…
.
.
"Idhren emmen menna gui ethwel (You have a chance for another life)," said Trent, "hae o auth… a nîr… a naeth (away from grief… war… despair)."
Kira was shocked to hear this from her lover. "Why are you saying this?" she asked, even more shocked.
"I am mortal, you are elf-kind," answered Trent as Kira maintained her incredulous expression, "it was a dream Kira… nothing more."
"…I don't believe you," Kira whispered painfully, yet defiantly.
the last part about splitting up, as he gazed at the couple, greatly feeling sorry for them both, that they would not be together… as they had both planned. To ensure his sincerity, Trent released Kira's hand and pulled out the Evenstar necklace from his pocket, to give back to her.
"This belongs to you," he said.
Kira looked down at the silver necklace as she was filled with pain, knowing that Trent wanted to return it to her. But despite her pain… she faced it with her own inner strength, with her vow to be with Trent unwavering, refusing to give in as she faced Trent, with a smile of defiance…
.
"It was a gift," Kira insisted as she forcibly closed his hand over the jewel, "…keep it."
.
.
.
.
"My lord?" wondered Tori.
Trent answered, after a pause, "…she is sailing to the Undying Lands… with all that is left of her kin."
