Epilogue: Space Between
After another hectic day at school, it's time for the students to head home. At Sullivan's abode, Iruma and Ryūko are playing a game with their grandfather while Opera is busy preparing dinner for five. Isabelle on the other hand is sitting at the dining table looking at a picture of her, Damien (in his demon disguise), Kattrin, Alexander, and Emilia (the one taken during Party Day at the Battler Festival). She waved her hand over the picture as Damien's demon disguise disappears to reveal his true human form.
'When will I ever reveal my secret to everyone I trust?' Asked Isabelle to herself mentally before she was interrupted by her housemates' voices.
"Hey, Isa, wanna play with us?" Iruma called out.
"We got one more joystick for you." Said Ryūko.
"Thanks, guys, but I'm not in the mood for game night right now." Said Isabelle as she head to her room.
The Suzuki twins looked at each other in worry.
After everyone was done eating dinner, Isabelle headed outside to get some fresh air. She then sat on the same rock she and her housemates used to practice for Execution Cannonball, looking up at the moon in the night sky.
'It seems like forever that I haven't felt this content with my life. For as long as I can remember, I have always endured endless bullying from both humans and demons. My friends in Babylus never had the chance to ridicule me because I hid my dual heritage from them. But what will they do or say if I blurted it all out? Will they still be friends with me? Or will they discriminate me and leave me alone?' Thought Isabelle solemnly as a tear escaped from her eye.
"Isa!" Her thoughts were interrupted when Iruma and Ryūko approached her.
"We thought we'd find you here, Isa." Said Ryūko.
"Is there something wrong?" Asked Iruma.
Isabelle sighed before saying, "I have been keeping this a secret for as long as I have known you two. I'm gonna tell it to you but can you keep this a secret from Azz, Clara, Lavande, Acheron, and pretty much everyone else in the school?"
"Our lips are sealed." Replied Ryūko.
"I'm not really a demon." Said Isabelle. "I'm a cambion. A half-human, half-demon."
The twins were surprised when they heard this, especially Ryūko. Their housemate a cambion?
"You're a half-demon like me? Why didn't you tell us that? Does Grandfather and Opera know about this?" Asked Ryūko with astonishment in her voice.
"Yes and we didn't want to tell you guys because I was afraid that you'd leave me. And after you showed your powers during that fight, Ryūko, I was unsure if I could tell you guys or not." Replied Isabelle forlornly.
"Hold on. If you're a cambion, what about your dad? He's a demon, right?" Said Iruma.
"Not exactly." Said Isabelle as she showed her family picture to her housemate. She then waved her hand over the picture again to reveal her father's true form, before continuing, "Remember the time Officer Henri told about that human and his demon lover? They were my parents."
"Really?" Asked the Suzuki twins in awe.
"Yes. You see, just like your parents to you two, my grandparents and my dad had a strained relationship and they only love him conditionally, meaning he needs to prove himself worthy of their love." Answered Isabelle, "This really took a toll on my dad's well-being that he did something that sent him to this realm."
"You mean..." Said Iruma worriedly.
"He went to the netherworld the same way your parents sent you there. He didn't really sell himself in exchange for something like money. He just wanted to get away from them."
"And that was when he found your mother, right?" Asked Ryūko.
"My parents were madly in love with one another, that my dad couldn't bare to part with my mom after Officer Henri found him and decided to send him back to the human world and erase the memory of his time in the netherworld and my mom. In the end, they reached a compromise that my parents travel between the two realms to be with each other. To top it all off, my dad cut off all ties with my grandparents only and when he married my mom. He even took my mom's surname to further distance himself from my grandparents."
"Wow..." the Suzuki twins breathed in awe.
"And let's not forget about my life before I met you guys. From a young age, I always thought that being born of both species means I have the best of both worlds. Sadly, I was wrong. Growing up, I was ridiculed by my demon peers and feared by my human peers. A few weeks before I settled here, my parents and Lord Sullivan made a deal that if I attend Babylus without any problems, they will let me continue my study there. Otherwise, I... I... I..." Stammered Isabelle before she silently broke down in tears. "I will drop out of Babylus and move back to my home."
"Gee, Isa. We didn't know you'd feel that way." Said Iruma with concern as Isabelle wiped her tears before they all sing.
