Chapter Twenty-Nine
Long Time – No See
Greagoir, Irving and Cullen met us at the door – someone had told them a boat was approaching with me in it – my hair was iconic.
They all gaped at Rulen. Greagoir swallowed hard, "W-who is this?"
Rulen extended a hand, "Rulen Lightsreap; Paladin of the Silver Covenant. Technically, I am a High Elf – I am not one of the Sin'dorei but I do respect Regent Lord Lor'themar; and it was at his personal request that I act as personal bodyguard to High Queen Atarah Stormlight. I also train Crown Prince Alistair as a Paladin."
Cullen swallowed hard, "Paladin?"
I spoke, "What you could be; actually, you have duel markers – Paladin and Warrior. Paladins use the holy light to fight with swords. So… basically they are the Azeroth version of Templars with a twist. Rulen is the Ashbringer now. Anyway, this isn't why we're here. I need a big favor."
Irving laughed, "Whatever you need, child – you have only to ask."
"Right… Arl Eamons son Connor… turns out he's a mage and… well, let's make a really long story short – we need mages, Lyrium and at least two Templars…"
"Why two Templars?" Greagoir asked.
"One gets to stay in Redcliffe and keep an eye on Jowan until we can ship him off to play with a sadistic woman that will torture him in the guise of training him as a liaison from the Wardens of Ferelden to Azeroth. Aedan conscripted him." I frowned.
"You are recruiting a blood mage?"
I held up a hand and played with the war-glaive charm on my bracelet – Kayn answered, "Iris… you have need of me?"
"Mmmh – are you available?"
"For you, my queen – always." He said smoothly. Damn – were I not happily mated to two men with a third soon to follow, I would certainly jump back into his arms. That voice… ah.
I opened a portal. Many people around us pulled swords when Kayn came through. I hugged him – just on principle, "How is my favorite ex-husband?"
"As far as I am aware, I am your only ex-husband," he said drily.
"Well… yeah – that's kind of the point. How is Jowans' room coming along?"
"Is that the name of the one that attempted to kill you at one point? I will be honest… Allari the Souleater has made it her mission to make the room as uninviting as possible. She threatened to make a whetstone of the boys skull if he so much as looks at you again. She… I believe that she chose to keep her pet Fel hound in the room with orders to 'watch' him. And yes – the room is near Loramus and Lady S'theno has graciously agreed to see him on a whole tour… the Matron Mother agrees that the boy has earned a six-armed spanking… with a paddle."
"Can you retrieve the Mother and the Lady for me, my dear Kayn?" I smiled sweetly.
He caught on that I was having fun with the people around me and bowed his head, "For my Queen – anything."
He dipped only his head back into the portal. After a moment, he straightened and the first one to step out was the Mother.
She picked me up and cradled me into her chest – she was 8'8 with light purple skin, 6 arms, blue eyes, long pointed ears, black and red cloth armor that covered… very little and 4 golden blades. I was pocket sized to Mother.
I smiled up at her, "Mother; it's nice to see you again."
She glanced around, "Where is the one that thought to threated my dear little Queen?"
"Not here – he's a week-long boat-ride in a south direction."
Lady S'theno was 12 feet from the tip of her head to the tip of her tail – but since 3 feet were used to propel her, she stood at about the same height as Mother. Her scales were light green, her cloth tabard was dark green, she had 4 arms, gold eyes and amber fins along her head and sides. She spoke, "My Queen." She had a blue and silver polearm on her back and her upper arms were crossed petulantly.
I reached out and patted her hands, "My dearest Lady – I've missed how cool you feel and how you smell of the seas."
This seemed to placate her and she huffed, "The air here sssmells of sssaltlessss water."
"We're in the middle of a lake, Lady S'theno – I thought you would be happy simply not being on the air-ship at the moment."
"… Acceptable." She smirked at me, "I have already begun preparing the tour for the human with more… balls than sssense."
I chuckled, "Terror is okay but harm is not; after all, this man will be a liaison from an Order of… Wardens." I hesitated.
Mother glowered, "Wardens? Like the Elven Wardens that imprisoned your people for 10,000 years?"
"Not at all – the Grey Wardens are more similar to the Illidari than the Wardens. I currently lead the Grey."
Lady S'theno hissed but merely said, "Very well – we will make him a bit welcome."
I smiled, "Thank you, S'theno – may I introduce Knight-Commander Greagoir and First-Enchanter Irving of the Kinlock Circle of Magi? And this is my fiancée Cullen Rutherford; this one is my fiancée Alistair Theirin; this is my second in the Wardens, Aedan and our healer, Wynne."
Mother set me down and extended a single hand to Greagoir and one to Irving, a third to Cullen, a fourth to Alistair, a fifth to Aedan and her last to Wynne. Lady S'theno did not shake hands… she inclined her head.
Kayn also nodded to Cullen. Alistair jumped to extend his hand to Kayn – startling all three Illidari.
Mother gave him a charming smile, "I do like you, My Prince."
Alistair frowned, "Call me Alistair – until a few months ago, I was just a bastard. Being a Prince is still new to me."
But seeing the reaction of the three to Alistair shaking Kayns' hand, Cullen followed suit – albeit, more hesitantly. Kayn gave him a reassuring nod, "Many cannot tolerate the way the Illidari look – we are demonic in nature; the Queen was the first and largely the only one to regularly make contact with us as a woman that shows no Illidari features outwardly. It is rare that any will give us their hand. That you do speaks volumes."
"Especially since my fiancée there was tortured by warlocks and demons." I hummed.
Mother looked scandalized, "Are those warlocks dead?"
"Every last one – down to the summed pets." Aedan said, "After all, they captured Tara too and forced her to do… things. Anduin and Inas didn't take kindly to that and… well…"
"Things? Things? What things?" Kayn growled.
"Their leader got his rocks off by pairing me with Cullen – or his men. I chose Cullen since he's my mate anyway. Not the first time I've been… watched. Inas almost threatened my mate."
Kayn flinched, "One should never threaten a dragons mate… unless they wish to die a fiery death – or worse. I do distinctly recall when you had to 'save' me. I actually felt bad for my captors."
Mother said, "That is how it should be, dear."
Cullen looked guilty but I said, "Honestly, the fact that Cullen was willing to shake your hand… I'm impressed. That torture was less than two months ago."
Kayn looked impressed too but dropped the topic, saying, "Remember, the Fel Hammer is ready to move on your command."
"For now, it will stay on Mardum. So, Greagoir… Ritual to save the Arls' son – Lyrium, Templars and mages?"
Greagoir began barking orders, "Get me 5 mages, a ritual amount of Lyrium and 6 more Templars! Cullen – you're with us."
Greagoir looked to me, "It will take us a bit to get the preparations and the boat ready – why don't you get a room since it's already quite late?"
I nodded, "Thank you, Commander."
"And on that note; we received a letter from the Grand Cathedral in response to what was sent before."
I nodded and said, "Kayn, Dear Lady, Mother – thank you for stopping in; I do so enjoy our talks. Kayn, real in Allari – Jowan is a fool but… he was only trying to escape the circle because he was in love with someone. She left him anyway finding out he was a blood mage."
Mother sniffed, "That is no excuse to threaten you… but we will tone down the fights. We're not moving his room, however."
"I wouldn't ask it – oh, Malevolence; one question before you go… Lan'dalock…"
She smirked, "Was a long time ago… but I think he deserves a reward for his help before, don't you?"
I swallowed hard, "Eventually, I hope you might tell me what you did with him – that man didn't even ask how high when you said jump."
She laughed, "Just means I did things properly, my dear – Kayn still jumps for you; I'm sure it's similar enough."
Kayn just nodded, "Given half a chance…"
"Ship has sailed – 3 mates; all jealous bastards." I shook my head, "Had you not dissolved our marriage 2 years ago, we might still be together; but what's done is done."
Alistair put an arm around my shoulders, "It would certainly be one thing if you two were still married… but nope – she's ours now."
I almost purred at the confirmation that he wanted me; I know he proposed and all, but still. Lady S'theno laughed, "I do like this one – keep him."
"That's the plan – he is one of my 3 mates. Anduin, Alistair and Cullen – all mine and I find I'm very territorial about them."
The three ducked through the portal before I said, "You… go find rooms. Wynne – you remember how I taught you to make that meatloaf?" she nodded and kissed my cheek before looking at Greagoir, "This woman is a fine example of what we should all be – honorable and brave… go easy on her."
He chuckled, "Of course, Senior Enchanter – I simply wished to discuss what the Divine sent – nothing more."
I got the feeling that he didn't care about any magics I held at this point.
He motioned to Cullen and we all made our own ascent to Irvings' office; Alistair followed us.
"Okay… what are we talking about, then? Really?" I asked as I sat in a chair.
"The Divine replied to our letter – personally. As a Seer, you've been afforded the protection of the Chantry. As a diplomat, you are afforded the ability to travel without declaring a home in Thedas. As for your magics – due to the fact that you are immune to demons and cannot use blood magic, any… progeny was the word she used… basically any children you bare are exempt from Chantry law regardless of magic unless they are prove to be able to be influences like demons and blood magic… and as to your dietary needs… well… she is sending a liaison to Redcliffe to 'observe' you."
"What are you hesitating about?" I asked. Cullen looked confused – the Commander hadn't looked hesitant to him.
"Well… your marriage has been approved; and… ordered even. You and Cullen to marry 'without delay' to secure diplomatic relations and cut down on the chance of your offspring having magic." Greagoir flushed.
I hummed, "Fine – but I'm marrying Alistair too. Ferelden has already received offers for an alliance from not just the Alliance of Stormwind where I am High Queen, but also the Horde Council due to my connections as the Daughter of the regent lord of Quel'Thalas and other connections. If I marry Cullen today, I am marrying Alistair too. Did she send me anything to show my 'exempt' status from the Chantry Law?"
He passed me a paper, "This came with the letter; It has the sigil of the Divine on it and is signed by her and her Right Hand and two Grand Clerics – the Free Marches Cleric Elthina and the Orlesian Cleric Dorothea as well as the Right-Hand Cassandra Pentaghast. The sigils are all there; simply show this to any seeker or templar and they will leave you alone. Oh – and Cullen, I think we can tell you now. Next month you'll be leaving for Kirkwall. You've been promoted to Knight-Captain for your… performance here."
I placed the paper in my bag and said, "That works – I'll just have to meet you in Kirkwall after the blight then."
Cullen was sitting looking stunned, "Knight-Captain?"
"I know it means you skip a few ranks – but you've more than earned it." Irving stated.
I stood and stretched, "Was that all; the letter, our marriage and Cullens' promotion?"
Irving nodded amused. I felt my back pop and said, "Awesome – I'm gonna get some food and call my brother and ex-girlfriend to come to the wedding. Nessa will skin me if I don't. considering that she's carrying my future niece or nephew…"
I pulled out my communicator and called Nessa directly. She answered on the third of 5 rings, "Iris! I miss you! And that thing you do with your…"
Inas much have snatched the phone, "Sister! Ahem – disregard my wife; her hormones are… everywhere."
"Was she talking about my famous massage – the one where I use magic in the process?" I asked with an evil smirk; I knew Inas thought Ness would be on something sexual. Nessa shouted, "Yes! Pretty please with a death cake on top?"
"Well… I could teach it to Inas… but you see, I actually called because I am about a half-hour away from walking down the aisle to marry two – maybe three – men. I called you before I even called Anduin – I'm risking that man's pout; and he has such irresistible puppy eyes." I sighed – my tone sounded sad and sincere but I still had my smirk and I knew I looked amused.
It was silent for a minute before I could here Nessa shoving Inas, "You didn't tell me that Iris was in a relationship – let alone three! I thought the rumor of her being married to Anduin was full of shit, Inas! Shit! Let me get dressed and I'll call you back. Do not get married without me there, damn it! Your brother killed my father, I get to steal a kiss at his sisters' wedding – that was the deal." The line went dead.
Alistair gulped, "A… Kiss? Her husband killed her father?"
"And her father killed the Queen – Anduins' mother, Tiffin. It's complicated. Especially because Tiffin was killed in a riot due to the Stonemasons not getting paid for their work in rebuilding the capital city; the House of Nobles took it too far. Some of the more senior of the Stonemasons, including VanCleef, were offered governmental jobs if they'd just be quiet and play along. Edwin… he didn't hold with betraying his men – and I agree on that part. He spat on the floor and walked out of the halls he'd built, vowing that he'd make the city pay one way or another. Shortly afterward, at VanCleef's urging, workers rioted in Stormwind City. Had the riots been peaceful, I could have convinced the Prince to step in since this oversight was done under his nose; the problem was that the King had been split into two people at the time and the version there had been manipulated by a corrupted Black Dragon named Onyxia. But so many people died – including the Queen. The thing about the Wrynn family line is that… they only fall in love once. While Varian didn't love Tiff in the beginning, he grew to love her so much – she was out there helping the people when she died. Varian cast the group from the city – and Edwin founded the Defias Brotherhood – a group of assassins, thieves, and pirates. It took 20 years of Edwin being evil for someone to finally step in."
"And Vanessa is okay that your brother killed her father?" Alistair asked.
"Not in the beginning. She was very young when she witnessed her father die. Inas didn't know she was there – and not many knew Edwin had a daughter. When Edwin died, Ness was adopted by a family of Farmers that named her Hope and gave her their last name. I may have paid them monthly for her upkeep and they loved her like a daughter. it allowed her to keep her plot for revenge hidden, whilst also hiding the fact she was the daughter of one of the greatest criminals ever. She ended up killing a family to keep her true identity a secret for a little longer. She took no pleasure in killing them. When people went after her after learning who she was, I threw down a mixture of drugs and swept her away; faking her death. I took her to a specific underground organization where her anti-government motives were well at home. Now, she is my sister-in-law."
I called Anduin next. He answered, "My Love?"
"My King… want to get officially married to me – I'm marrying Cullen and Alistair too so…"
"Was that a trick question? Of course, I wish to marry you – shall I bring an official so that we can have it official for Azeroth and not just Thedas?"
"Mmmh – that would be perfect. Just don't bring anyone too… ahem, godly. Papa would do it in a heartbeat, but having a giant stag officiate the wedding might throw people off. Big bro Cenarius would too… just assume anyone that can be deemed a god or Loa or such would freak people out here. I shudder to think what might happen if Uncle Mal came here – I've already had Kayn, Malevolence and S'theno here today so people are already reeling."
"… How about my Regent? Turalyon would be honored to come."
"Cool – bring Alleria and Arator too if they can come. The more the merrier. His wife and son would be welcomed here; Arator is a paladin like his father."
Anduin hummed, "I might be able to swing it… give me twenty minutes and I will be there… are you sure that you do not wish to invite your uncle?"
"No – I'm still salty about my childhood trauma. I am inviting everyone else though – you think daddy will bring Thalyssra?"
"Without question – the First Arcanist has sung your praises all through Suramar and beyond. Just let your step-father try to leave her behind. She would turn him into a toad for 2 days if she missed your wedding. I'll call the alliance leaders – you get the Horde. We'll make a day of it."
"Fun – I can't wait to see Tandred and Derek; Make sure Jaina drags them along."
"As you wish, my Queen." I could hear the tender smile in his voice – it made me all warm and fuzzy. He was my mate, after all – any affection he showed would make me feel desperate for more. What? I was a love-starved child, okay?
I hung up with him and moved to sit sideways in my chair with a smirk and called 'daddy'.
"My most beloved daughter!" he exclaimed – Elune, but he was excitable when it came to me or Thalyssra.
"Daddy… I'm get married in… well, a little under an hour, but I told Inas and Ness it would be half an hour to light a fire under them. I was wondering if maybe you and the others on the council wanted to come?"
There was a crash as – I assumed – he stood too swiftly and fell to the floor. How was this man ever a Ranger or Hunter? He shouted, "Thalyssra… Iris is getting married in an hour."
Thalyssra cried, "What? We don't even have a gift! Which mate is she marrying? Inas said she had three…"
I sniggered, "All of them!"
Another crash – Alistair coughed as he tried not to laugh at the situation. He'd met my step-father back when he first met my son. Oh – on that note, "And could you pretty please bring Alstus and Bella? I wouldn't dare wish to get married without my son present for the ceremony."
Greagoir choked on the water he had poured while I made my calls. Irvings' eyes widened.
Lor'themar cursed, "I will have the whole council ready in less than half an hour… and I will bring those orange chocolates you enjoy as a gift."
I smiled happily, "Thank you, Daddy – call me when you're ready for a portal."
I cut the connection and said, "Welp – my job is done. Come – I think I need to inform the kitchen that we will have about 25 additional guests for supper and then I need to go craft a dress… maybe some formal suits for the two of you as well. It's bad luck to wear armor when getting married – it's like asking for the wedding to be attacked. Congratulations, men – you will have all the planetary leaders of Azeroth here in about an hour. Whatever you do, ignore the use of any magics you will soon see – Mages, Priests, Tinkers, Prophets and more will be in attendance and it's ceremonial to bless the union by doing a bit of decorative magic… and uh… also ignore the gifts; this is last minute, but the gifts will be extravagant none-the-less. It would be just like my father to come with a set of rings each costing anywhere between 1-3 thousand gold coins. I can't be assed to care about value, but I'm my step-fathers only child and he's the regent-lord of the Sin'dorei."
"Y-Yes…" Irving coughed.
"And one last thing – do not deride magic if you wish to keep your head. More than half of the leaders have some form of it and will challenge you if they think you are looking down on them. They won't interfere for the most part – maybe kill the templars or mages that smell like they enjoy rape and torture if they think those ones will move against me – but as a day of celebration, they will try not to stir the pot unless someone hands them the spoon."
Cullen coughed, "And… who will be… sharing your bed tonight?"
"I figured you since I have a more limited time to be with you at the moment. Anduin is lounging in Oribos all day so he can come if I crook my finger, Alistair is with me pretty much all day, every day, but you… I have maybe two weeks with you during our trip to Redcliffe."
He smiled shyly, "I… appreciate you thinking of it – I had not."
I chuckled, "I consider my mates in all things. Now, come along – I need to take measurements for your suits."
We headed out and up to the kitchen where I told Wynne, "I'm getting married in about an hour – enlist as many people as possible to help you cook; we're going to have about 25-30 guests and only like 5-6 will be under 6 feet tall – in fact most will be 7-9 feet tall and eat like wardens."
She groaned softly, "I will do so."
I then dragged Alistair and Cullen into a guest room and began measuring and – even with them present – I used Warp Time and began moving swiftly to make their outfits and mine. I was muttering to myself; I knew Anduin would use his own suit – gold and white… Alistair would look good in browns and so would Cullen… screw it; they were getting black suits.
When I finished, the two men looked dashing. I had gone overboard and made fancier things than I should have. I had been making my outfit behind a screen while dashing back and forth to make the suits at the same time.
I pointed to the black and brown suit, "Cullens," and then I pointed to the Black and crimson, "Alistairs. Go get dressed."
My communicator began chiming – Anduin. I answered, "Andy?"
"Everyone chose to make things easier and gather in Oribos – you can open one portal and we'll begin coming through."
I dashed down to the chantry area on the second floor and opened a portal. As expected, everyone held a box of some sort. I smiled, "Rulen – usher duty. I need to get dressed. Daddy, I pick you… and Turalyon, are you okay hosting?"
Lor'themar beamed at being chosen to walk me down the aisle. The High Exarch smirked, "It would be my honor to do the 'Azeroth' portion of the Ceremony; though I was made aware that there would be a 'Thedas' portion too?"
"Her Perfection – the Most Holy – Divine Beatrix III has decreed that Cullen is to marry me to secure diplomatic relations; this means we need a Priestess from here; call a 'Revered Mother' and they do not hold magics. Coordinate with Mother Anna there t figure things out; I still need to dress and… oh…"
I caught sight of Anduin; dressed to the nines in gold and white, wearing a crown and holding 3 small boxes. I took it that those contained crowns for me and the other men.
He smiled at me, "My beloved…"
"Those boxes had better not contain what I think they do, Andy."
He grinned roguishly, "Maybe they do – if you think they are the crowns denoting your ranks as leaders of the Alliance, at least."
"I thought you couldn't make those until after we were officially married…" I pouted.
He winked, "I bent the rules and used the fact that you married me by the Light. The church didn't even grumble about it when put that way."
I snorted, "Ass. Alright – I love you. I'm going to get dressed."
He chuckled and placed the 3 boxes near the pedestal that was used for preaching as I dashed from the room to get my dress changed.
My dress was not a dress. It was actually a pants' suit in white and black. Why? Because I wanted to, that was why.
When it was time, there was a knock on the door. I added my half-cloak and opened the door to see my Step-Father on the other side. He chuckled, "A suit?"
"Why not?" I asked.
"A fair point. Very well, let's go; it is time."
We got down to the chantry area and walked down the aisle. I could see several amused faces at my manner of dress… but my grooms all had faces that showed sappy love or happiness in some form.
The mother looked slightly annoyed but didn't dare to say anything – it wasn't her place to criticize beings from other worlds. And it was obvious, looking around, that we were from another world. Goblin, Gnome, Vulpera, Orc, Night Elf, Draenei, and more – to her, no one here was human; but she kept a weary eye especially on Kayn.
I decided that I really didn't like this mother. And I think the only reason she agreed to do this wedding was because the letter – signed by the divine – said to do whatever it took to get me married to Cullen.
We got to the end of the aisle and I smiled at the three men I was about to marry in two cultures. The Exarch spoke first, "Good Day, Ladies and Gentleman – and those not either of the above mentioned; be you a stranger or a friend, you have come today to honor these… four on their wedding day. We are gathered here today in the sight of the Light, Elune, the Maker, the Void and the presence of these witnesses to join together these men – Anduin Wrynn, Alistair Theirin and Cullen Rutherford – to this woman, Atarah Iris Stormlight in holy matrimony. Are you all ready to take your Vows?"
We all assented, so Anduin began, "I, Anduin Llane Wrynn, do take you, Atarah Iris Stormlight, to be my lawfully wedded wife – to have, to hold, in sickness, in health, through poverty, through prosperity, good times and bad, for better or worse. I vow to you that I will love you even should one or both of us take our last breath. May the Light see fit to bless our union until the end of time."
I saw more than hear Alistair cursing that he couldn't match that. Cullen went next, "I swear unto the maker and the Holy Andraste to love this woman the rest of my days." Well – I was actually glad that he didn't alter his vows.
Alistair cleared his throat, "I'm not good at this – but Tara… Here's the thing: being near you makes me crazy, but I simply can't imagine being without you. This is the rose I picked in Lothering – the one you preserved. I just couldn't leave it for the Darkspawn. I remember thinking 'How can something so beautiful exist in a place with so much despair and ugliness?' I probably should have left it alone, but I couldn't. I thought I might… give it to you. In a lot of ways, I think the same thing when I look at you." Now it was Anduins' turn to silently curse – who knew they would be competitive? "So I guess… I vow to love you for the rest of my life; it won't be so hard considering how firmly you hold my heart already."
I heard a few sighs in the 'crowd'. I smiled and took the rose, "I vow – by Elune, By the Maker, by every force in the combined universes – that I will love and cherish all three of you; equally. I will provide comfort in times of sorrow, joy in times of happiness, a shield to defend you in times of strife and a hand in times of peace. Never will I abandon you. Because I love you – and I always will."
The mother stepped up, "Then in the sight of the Maker, I bless this union and pronounce you men and wife."
In the order that they said their vows, each man kissed me. My father… delivered on my threat from before and handed me a box with four rings. I chuckled, "Really, father?"
"Direct from Shattarah. I got a discount for buying 4 at once," he said cheekily. I opened the box and saw 4 Gold Eternium Bands. Only one had a gem – a ruby – in the fiery decoration. I said, "Left hands."
All three held up their hands. Alistair and Cullen looking a little confused as I slid a ring onto their ring-finger. Anduin swooped in to place the ring with a gem onto my finger.
I cleared my throat, "It's a traditional symbol of marriage. Father didn't have to get Gold Eternium Bands, but…"
"As I said – I got a discount. I only spent 10,000 Gold Coins on the set."
Anduin looked impressed, "That means you got one almost free."
"Haris drove a hard bargain; she seemed to know I was in a rush or I would have bartered a bit more." Lor'themar chuckled.
Inas and Ness came over with three boxes, "Here is your Moon Set in this box; this box contains two sets of gauntlets enchanted for strength; and this box is the gift for you."
I passed the 'moon set' to Cullen, "This is the set of sword-and-shield I commissioned for you."
"Take the blasted things… ask me for the moon again and I start asking for the sun." Inas grumped.
I grinned, "I could do it you know – bottle the sun and give it to you."
He glared, "I have zero doubts about that. You're the greatest Alchemist we've ever seen. If you told me that you could make me a potion that would make me like you, I'd believe it… but no man is worth this much trouble. I was serious when I said the team of Dwarves that were working on it developed OCD and that I'm having nightmares about the enchants. It was bad, Tara – I ended up adding a few minor ones to improve it… I never do that."
I giggled, "Well, thank you very much. What did you add?"
"Balance, never dull, and bind."
Well… I wasn't expecting that. "How did you add bind without…"
"It will bind to the first person to use them."
I pressed my finger to Ness' temple and transferred knowledge of the spell. She kissed my cheek.
She squealed, "It was my distinct pleasure working with you love."
I chuckled, "Don't call me that – you have Inas now. Besides, Cullen gets jealous."
Cullen caught on and flushed, "I… I mean… her and… you?"
I shot him a wink. Inas nudged me, "We worked hard, and I want to see his reaction."
I pouted but said, "Okaayy…"
Cullen opened the shield first. He pulled it out and I heard Greagoir gasp at it. It looked like Cullens shield from inquisition but with major twists. It had Azerite 'rivers' running along the edge and it held the sigil of the Templars… for now. Once he was called Commander Rutherford by yours truly, that enchantment would vanish and it would be the Inquisition logo. The metal was Phaedrum – a silvery metal from Ardenweald. The logo was glowing red, as though made of rubies.
Inas spoke, "It's Enchanted to your womans specifications – it will absorb elemental attacks, deflect all others. It will never dent and if you lose or misplace it, it will return to you – that last one is what is called 'bind', if you were wondering."
He flushed when I was called his woman, but lifted the shield. I said, "Don't worry, it will absorb this." And I shot a fireball at him. He defended and the shield glowed gold as it absorbed the magic.
"Why absorb?" Greagoir asked. I smirked, "That brings us to the Sword of the set."
Cullen opened it as our wedding guests watched. The sword he pulled out was a Willow Leaf Saber style sword. The hilt was covered in Fel Hound leather and the metal matched the shield to a T. It held a river of Azerite down the center of the blade and looked menacing.
Inas spoke again, "That blasted Sword is linked to the shield – it is also bound to you, and any attack the shield absorbs the sword will use to deal damage. Also it will never dull and the balance will always adjust to you. Give it a swing."
Cullen did as instructed just as I tossed up a shield. An arc of flame shot from the path of the swing.
Vanessa smirked, "All in all, I think those are very sexy armaments. No one will ever have a set like them. Azerite is such a precious resource and those metals…" I covered her mouth, but it was too late.
Cullen looked stunned, "Just how much did this cost?"
"Nothing much…" I shook my head but Inas spoke up, "Only about 5 million gold pieces in all. For her estate that's a trifle."
Queen Regent Moira Thaurissan née Bronzebeard – 5'1 with bright red hair done in twin braided buns on either side of her head and green eyes – said, "Aye – we cut the forging costs for her acts against N'Zoth. Else, it would be more 20 million all-in-all for forging, materials, and specialized crafting."
Moira then handed me a box. I opened it to see a beautiful red gem ring. I gasped, "No…"
"Aye – Heart of the Mountain. You earned it lass."
She walked off without another word. The whole ring was made of a rare gem.
We continued receiving gifts – with me passing them out between my husbands for the most part based on who could use it more. When that was done, Anduin held up the boxes he'd brought. He had Cullen, Alistair and I kneel.
We did. "I will start with you, my wife. Queen Stormlight of the Illidari – do you accept the crown of the Alliance; do you vow to protect the people, fairly judge all crimes, and hold no bias? Do you vow to do your best to not harm the Alliance, but see it prosper?"
"I do, my King." I said.
He opened a box and pulled out a white-silver crown designed as a circlet; it was designed to look like Fel-fire with a single violet crystal at the forehead. And arcane beacon? An odd choice for a crown.
Next was Alistair – crowned as a Prince-Consort of Stormwind. His crown looked like something the King of Ferelden might wear – the Theirin Mabari signet above the forehead. The rest was simple gold. But the eyes on the Mabari were Arcane Beacons too.
Cullen almost freaked out when he was Crowned as Prince-Consort as well; I think he thought it would be an empty title.
Cullens' crown had the templar insignia impressed into it. The sword itself was the Arcane Beacon on his. But again – it was otherwise it was like Alistairs – plain gold.
Crafty son-of-a-bitch; Anduin had made it so that we had to keep our crowns either on or with us. The Arcane Beacons could be used for me to find the others if need be. And he explained that, making Alistair and Cullen groan.
Alistair sighed, "People will certainly be giving me looks – they'll think I'm being rather bold about my heritage as Cailans' brother."
Anduin chuckled, "Well – you do have the backing of Azeroth; the alliance agreements for Ferelden with the Alliance of Stormwind has already been placed in the records. The moment you are named King, it goes into effect."
Lor'themar nodded, "The same can be said for with the Horde. It took no effort to sway the votes when it was said that they were Iris' demands."
Greagoir looked a little pale, "What demands?"
"Ferelden gets all the good stuff and only has to relinquish Gwaren as an embassy area. That's it, really. Ferelden will get class trainers, food assistance, druidic support to heal the lands after the Blight, and so on, so forth."
"That is a very lopsided trade." Irving commented.
"Well… I hate to put it this way, but what exactly can Thedas offer to Azeroth? Thedas is very behind the times, no technology to speak of… I mean, maybe there are unique foods, but even your health potions are very weak by Azeroth standards. Your enchantments aren't that great, and you are crap at demon control and mage oversight."
Jaina coolly spoke, "About that – I can sense magic in the ones that speak as though they don't feel."
I flinched, "Er… you're not going to like that answer, Jaina."
"I still want it."
"The rite of Tranquility. They used to be mages… until they were… essentially beheaded. Their connection to the force called the fade was severed. No emotions, no dreams, nothing. It's… a terrible practice. Some go through it voluntarily – but it was never meant for mages in the first place. I'll explain more later. The Mage-Templar war isn't meant to happen for years to come."
"The what?" Greagoir asked.
I shot him a blank look, "The… You don't want to know. Anyway, Jaina…"
"I think… Alistair, would you be willing to allow the Kirin Tor – the mages of Dalaran – to take over the education of the Circle?"
Alistair looked at me, "Er… that's… I don't know?"
I hummed, "Actually, it would grant Daylens' boon for aiding in the Blight – he asks for the Circles independence and you grant it. How about this – Jaina, you may have any sort of magic trainers here at the Circle other than Warlocks. Blood Magic and dealing with demons is forbidden here in Thedas unless one is a Grey Warden. I plan to approach the wardens after an experiment in that later. However, you can do nothing here until Alistair takes the throne; deal?"
"I will ready a trainer of each aspect. Thank you, My Queen."
Greagoir frowned, "You really plan to…"
"Even Anora would grant it if she stayed on the throne, Greagoir – it is inevitable at this point since Daylen is one of the Wardens that will be Hero of Ferelden. All the Wardens in my group – Alistair, Daylen, Lyna, Carver, Sereda and Aedan will all be named 'Hero of Ferelden' due to the fact that they are the only Wardens n Ferelden and thus the frontrunners to end the Blight. And Ending the Blight in only one year? Elune, can you imagine why Alistair might grant that boon now?" I asked.
"Ah… then we will be prepared for it."
"Set up an area for a portal; no bigger than Anduin there. This tower…"
"Well… there are 3 unused floors past the Harrowing chamber. They're falling apart though."
"Easy enough to fix – the Dwarves of Ironforge will take on this responsibility." Muradin Bronzebeard said. I nodded, "Ask Inas for pay; I'll foot the bill for this."
The 5'2, red-haired, blue-eyed dwarf nodded. I loved his beard – it reached to his knees and was braided.
"Right – well… it's bed time; and we can leave by 9 in the morning; get plenty of rest," Greagoir said and head off to do something.
I looked at Cullen, "Come, my love – you have the first night." He flushed as everyone cleared out.
