"So you want to talk about what happened in Houston yet?" Jane teased Katie as they made the walk from their training facility to the jewlers.
"No I don't," Katie laughed.
It's been a few weeks since they flew back to Boston after their away game in Houston. Katie almost didn't make it back to the hotel in time to leave for the bus. Jane laughed at the memory of a flustered Katie washing the grime of the bar and the one night stand off, before changing into sweats and throwing her bag over her shoulder. Jane packed all of Katie's stuff for her once she realized Katie hadn't made it back to the hotel that night.
"You sure?" Jane laughed. "I really want to know what happened."
"Let's find your girlfriend a ring and then maybe we'll talk about it on the way back to the stadium," Katie huffed. They we're in for a long weekend, it was the beginning of a tournament week. The first game was tonight and if they made it to the finals they'd play a week from today.
"Fine," Jane agreed. "You recorded what she said right?" Jane confirmed.
"For the thousandth time, yes," Katie laughed as the pair walked into the jewlers.
"Yes ladies?" a white haired man looked up from behind the counter. "What brings you in today?"
"I am looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend," Jane smiled proudly.
"Oh, how wonderful," he smiled at the pair. "Do you have anything in mind?"
"Yes," Jane smiled excitedly. "We have a recording of her saying what she would like."
"Impressive. How'd you do it without her getting suspicious?" The man laughed.
"It was surprisingly easy," Katie laughed as she pulled out her phone to play the recording.
"Well," he smiled. "Let's hear it."
Katie played the recording for the jewler. "I've always loved the idea of platinum or white gold. A round diamond in the center, surrounded by smaller diamonds. Maybe in a setting that sits off the finger".
"Ah," he smiled. "I've got a good collection of those over here," he walked around the counter to a specific case and pulled out a couple of pads. "Do we have a price range?"
"I haven't really thought about a price range," Jane stood shocked. "I know nothing about jewelry."
"She has enough money," Katie laughed.
"Well alright," he laughed. "These range from five thousand to ten thousand. Depending on the size and Carat of the diamond in the center."
Jane spent a couple of minutes browsing the rings in front of her. "I wish I had a picture or something," Jane tried to picture each ring on her girlfriend's finger.
"Go with your gut Jane. Maura's going to love it no matter what," Katie encouraged.
"You're right," Jane smiled reluctantly. She pointed at the ring that she pictured resting on her girlfriend's finger, "this one."
"Wonderful choice," the man smiled up at Jane. "For an extra five-hundred dollars we can add an engraving."
"Yes," Jane's eyes lit up. "Put that in there," Jane smiled and wrote on the piece of paper the man handed her. Jane handed her credit card over to the man and smirked.
"She's going to love it," Katie smiled. "Now hurry up, we have a game we have to get to."
"Of course," the man smiled as he continued to fill out the paperwork. "You can come back in a week to pick it up."
"Perfect," Jane smiled as she took her receipt and left the jewelers with her best friend.
"That's a beautiful ring Jane," Katie smiled.
"I know," Jane laughed. "Now we are going to talk about Houston."
"I really don't want to, Jane," Katie sighed begrudgingly. "Please don't make me talk about it.
"At least give me an explanation as to why you barely made it back in time?" Jane encouraged Katie so share her experience. "You know I'm not going to judge you. I've narrowly missed a bus before too," Jane laughed.
"Remember when you caught Chris and I in bed together?" Katie watched Jane nod. "Remember when you said 'all women say that until they've experienced a mind blowing orgasm?" Katie blushed.
"Yeah I do remember that," Jane laughed at the memory of her and Katie at the kitchen island. She nodded her head again, encouraging Katie to continue. She tried her best to keep in the giggle.
"Well, you were right," Katie laughed. "Every woman says they're quiet until they've had a mind blowing orgasm."
"You didn't," Jane stopped walking and stood shocked. "Are you kidding?"
"Why'd you stop walking? We have to get back for the game," Katie turned to look at her best friend, the blush evident on her face.
"See? I told you," Jane laughed.
"It was multiple," Katie laughed. "Multiple mind blowing orgasms and it only got better as morning approached."
"You went all night? That's impressive, did you get his number?" Jane winked as the pair began walking back to the stadium.
"Of course, I told him if he ever found himself in Boston to give me a call," Katie laughed. "But I'm not about to get into a relationship with a man that lives in Texas."
"I don't know Kate. Any guy that can go all night would deserve a long distance dating trial," Jane laughed.
"Yeah," Katie smirked. "It was good." Her smirk grew into a wide smile and her eyes widened.
As they approached the stadium they entered a comfortable silence. They began to mentally prepare for the game ahead. They walked up to their lockers and Jane slipped the ring receipt into the side pocket of her bag. She made a mental reminder to plan on how to propose to Maura.
As Jane and Katie approached their locker's Jane heard Katie's phone ring. Once… twice… and finally a third time. "You gonna get that?" Jane laughed.
"Nah it's probably nothing," Katie shrugged.
Jane fought with Katie to try to pull the phone out of her best friend's hand. "Give it," Jane laughed as she side stepped Katie and was lucky enough to rip the phone out of her friend's hand. "Ooohhh," Jane gasped. "Jesse? Katie, who is Jesse?" Jane smirked.
"That guy from Houstonn," Katie smiled. "Don't answer it, I'll call him back after the game."
"Hello?" Jane smirked at her best friend as she pulled the phone to her ear.
"Um… Hey?" The deep voice said on the other line. "Katie? You sound different."
"It's actually her best friend," Jane laughed as she held Katie at a distance. "Katie's a bit busy at the moment. Can I take a message?"
"Um… Yeah. Just tell her that I'm in Boston for business and I was invited to some soccer game tonight. She mentioned that she liked women's soccer, I figured she'd want to go. With me… I mean," the guy stumbled.
Jane just laughed. "You didn't tell him?" Jane whispered to her friend as she covered up the speaker on the phone. "He wants to take you to a women's soccer game in Boston tonight," Jane couldn't stop laughing. Jane pulled the phone back to her ear. "I would relay your message," Jane laughed. "But she's in the middle of putting on her soccer uniform for the women's soccer game in Boston tonight."
"Oh," the man laughed. "I think she forgot to mention that."
"She's definitely available for a drink afterwards though," Jane winked at her best friend.
"Tell me when and where," he laughed.
"Section 126 after the game. She'll probably be a little bit, that girl takes forever in the shower," Jane heard the man laugh.
"I'll be there," he laughed and then hung up the phone.
"You have a date tonight," Jane laughed as she handed Katie her phone back. "See," Jane shrugged. "I can be a good wing woman."
"You definitely can," Katie giggled. "Alright, enough with these boy things. We've got a game to win."
Jane and Katie continued with their pregame ritual, all the way up to warming up on the field with the rookies.
In the fifty-fifth minute, Jane collided with the defender. Right outside the penalty box. They had a chance to inch ahead. The game has been stalled at zero to zero, until this moment. Except, Jane couldn't get up. Her legs were tangled with her opponent's. The aching pain at the bridge of her left foot gave her the eerie feeling that her season has ended. A broken foot? A torn ligament? Just a sprain? Maura's going to be mad when she finds out that Jane was hurt and didn't do anything about it.
Jane untangled herself from her opponent and was helped up by her best friend. Katie whispered "nice dig." She laughed as she went to spot the ball where Jane fell.
Jane stood on her good foot and went to place her left foot down. She grimaced, the pain wasn't too bad and definitely could be worse. But, could she play thirty-five minutes on it? Probably. She gave a couple of hops and lightly jogged into the box to get ready for the free kick. The pain lessened as she continued to take a few steps. She could definitely play another thirty minutes. She gave a nice jump to test out the foot and she was good to go.
She steadied herself and watched as Katie raised her hand, indicating she was about to send the ball in. Jane made her run to their indicated free kick play and watched as the ball sailed perfectly in her direction. Jane pushed off the ground and jumped as high as she could, timing the ball perfectly. One quick flick of her head, making contact with the ball. The whole play felt like slow motion. She watched the ball soar towards the opposite corner of the net, away from the keeper. The sound of the swish of the ball hitting the back of the net was music to Jane's ears.
They did it… For now.
Her teammates came rushing at her, Katie jumping on her back in celebration. "Hey, we still have thirty minutes left. Hold your ground, keep up the precision. We can do this," Jane encouraged as they all returned to their starting spots on their side of the field.
The rest of the game continued much like the beginning, tough and even. Tough competition between opponents, tough tackles, tough passes and the even push and shove between competitors, even ball control time. Boston hasn't been able to break down the opponents defense since they scored off of the free kick.
But, they did it. Jane sighed in relief as the sound of the whistle blew in her ear. The jumps from the side lines and deep sighs from her opponents on the field. Jane tried to hide the slight limp as she walked off towards the bench.
"You alright?" Katie laughed.
"Yeah, I think I messed up my foot when I went down for that free kick," Jane laughed. "Maura's going to be mad when I tell her I ran for another thirty minutes."
"I'm hoping I'm not there for that conversation," Katie patted her friend on the back. "I've got a date I have to get to."
As the pair reached the bench, Jane saw the look on Maura's face. Maura stood, hands on her hips, she can tell that Maura already knows. "How's your foot Jane?" Maura sneered.
Jane winced at the tone of her girlfriend's voice, "it tingles a bit. But, it's fine."
"With the look of your limp, it looks a little worse than fine," Maura jabbed as she looked Jane up and down.
"It hurt for a minute and then I walked on it and it felt fine," Jane defended herself.
"I'll meet you in my office after your shower," Maura nodded and turned to walk into the tunnel.
"Sounds like Rizzoli's in trouble," Brooke laughed. "Good luck in there," she winked at her teammate.
Jane huffed and grabbed her stuff and followed her best friend and girlfriend into the tunnel. She quickly showered and dressed. "Yo Kate," Jane yelled into the showers.
"What?" Katie laughed.
"I'm coming up to meet that guy," Jane laughed. "Don't you dare leave the stadium without seeing me."
"You got it, boss," Katie laughed at Jane's statement. "I'll see you in a minute."
Jane nodded her head and headed into the Doc's office. She smiled sweetly as she peaked her head inside. "Hey babe," Jane smirked. "How was your day?"
"Sit," Maura demanded. Jane took in her tone and obeyed. "Shoes," Maura pointed. Jane took off her sneakers and laughed lightly. Maura placed her hand on the bottom of her foot and bent it slightly backwards. Jane kept her face neutral. There wasn't too much pain with flexing her foot. Maura slightly pinched the tendon at the bottom of her foot.
"Ouch, Maur," Jane winced. "That was unnecessary."
"Hmmm, it's just strained," Maura released her foot and nodded for her to put her shoe back on.
"See!" Jane smirked. "I'm fine," Jane pulled her girlfriend close. "I'll be good as new in a couple of days."
"You have to stop doing that to yourself," Maura scolded. "Or your career is going to be short. You aren't invincible Jane."
"I know Maur," Jane rested her head in the crook of Maura's neck. I would've stayed down if I knew it was serious. But the second I stood up I knew it was alright."
"You need to rest it though," Maura smirked at the brunette. "Maybe naked," she winked.
"Can't tonight Maur," Jane smirked. "I've gotta be a wingwoman for Katie. Remember in Houston when Katie barely made it to the bus?"
"Yeah, she finally told you what happened?," Maura laughed.
"The guy's in Boston tonight and he's taking her out. We're going," Jane smiled. "She told me that I was right about Chris," Jane winked. "I want to meet the guy that made my best friend orgasm all night."
"You're kidding," Maura smiled. "I want to meet this guy too."
"He called before the game inviting her to a women's soccer game in Boston tonight," Jane laughed. "She forgot to mention she played."
"You're kidding," Maure laughed. "I'm sure she definitely forgot. What are we waiting for? Let's go meet this man."
"Yes, let's." Jane laughed as she pulled the doctor out the office door and to section 126.
