As we headed for our podiums, I continued to play with my ponytail due to how scared I was.
"Easy, Natalie." I told myself. "Easy."
The circle of podiums was looking more like a circle of portraits with each time we came here. Portraits of Dana and Miranda were now among said portraits, grim reminders that our friends are no longer here with us.
Aqua Tail hopped into his seat and faced the rest of us. "Let's go over the rules, one more time. It is now the class trial, so you will all decide amongst yourself who you think the killer is, and then vote. If you vote right, then only the killer gets the axe. If you vote wrong, everyone else will get an axe, and I'll allow the killer to leave this island!"
"Yeah, yeah Aqua Tail." Rory rolled his eyes. "We know how it works."
"Well then! Hop to it!"
"The third class trial is now in session, everybody." Irene stated. "Here we go."
"Let's do this!" Gavin exclaimed. "We got this!"
"Where should we start?" Bridget asked.
"The killer is obvious!" Sapphire replied.
"Huh?"
"Dane killed Miranda." Sapphire continued. "He was always with her, and she left a dying message for us that flat out says Dane killed her!"
"Wait." Dane begged. "You have to believe me, I'm being framed."
"You shut up, water girl!" Harvey replied. "I'll kick your stupid ass if you try to deny it again!"
"But I didn't!"
"I'll kill you!" Harvey got off his podium and started to run towards Dane, but Irene caught him by the throat.
"Cut this shit out, right now Harvey!" Irene glared. She then threw him back to his podium, which he quickly got back on.
"Nothing ever changes around here." RK stated.
"Getting back on track." Henry replied. "Sapphire, you were saying you believe Dane is the killer."
"For sure!" Sapphire replied. "What more proof do you need?"
"The killer could be framing Dane." Sam shot back. "They could of written that dying message themselves, not Miranda."
"I'm not at all defending the crybaby water girl bitch." Simon added. "But I do have hard time believing he could kill anyone, and certainly not the type of slaughter that fell upon the porn star extra."
"What did you say about Miranda?" Dane asked, getting angry.
"Dane, calm down." I said. "Now isn't the time for more fights."
"Yes, enough indeed." Ellen agreed. "Can a class trial actually happen when you idiotic idiots don't waste any time fighting with each other?"
"Well what are you doing right now, huh?!" Sapphire shot back.
"We gotta get our heads in the game!" I thought to myself. "This is serious!"
Nonstop Debate
"I didn't kill Miranda!" Dane urged.
"Liar!" Harvey accused.
"Dane's name was indeed in the dying message." RK added.
"The dying message that was right next to Miranda's body." Added Rory.
"But does that mean for sure Dane's the killer?" Bridget asked.
"Yes, it does!" Sapphire confirmed. "Miranda used the little energy she had left to write us a note that Dane was the one who killed her!"
"Wow, they sure got serious pretty quickly." I thought to myself. "But can we confirm that Dane is the killer based on the idea that Miranda wrote us a dying message? Did Miranda even leave that message?" What is the answer... WAIT! Holy shit, Sapphire is wrong!"
"Take it easy, Sapphire." I stated.
"What?" Sapphire replied. "Girl! What are you doing?"
"Showing everyone why we can't just assume that Dane is the killer, but also show that Miranda didn't write that dying message."
"Awesome!" Wait to go, Natalie!" Sam cheered.
"What do you have for us, Natalie?" Gavin asked.
"Think back to Miranda's body." I replied. "Neither of her fingertips had any blood on them, also the fact that she was on her back, and kind of had glass shards in her eyes and hands, I think she would have trouble writing anything with blood."
"Damn!" Rory exclaimed.
"And add the fact that the message was written very neatly, I doubt Miranda in her dying moments would take her time to write neatly instead of rushing and leaving us a more messy message."
"That makes sense to me." Irene replied. "I think we can all agree that Miranda didn't write that dying message."
"Yeah!" Sam agreed. "It was the killer, who was trying to frame Dane!"
"Thank you." Thanked Dane."
"Doesn't mean your innocent, water jizz." Simon snickered.
"Yeah!" Sapphire agreed. "You can still be the killer!"
"We could all still be the killer." Bridget replied. "It isn't artistic to start throwing out names so early in the class trial."
"I agree with Bridget." Irene agreed. "Let's take a step back to go over something else for now."
"According to the file, Miranda's time of death was 2:20AM." Gavin stated. "Maybe someone can show they aren't the killer by providing an alibi?"
Nobody confirmed an alibi.
"Everyone was most likely sleeping or just alone in their hut at the time." RK said. "I don't think there will be a lot of alibis for this case."
"I didn't think so myself." Henry agreed.
"Let's try going over what we know for sure." I suggested.
"What do you mean, girl?!" Sapphire asked.
"I mean in terms of when we last saw Miranda arrive."
"Well after Aqua Tail made us watch that stupid video, we all gathered at the hotel patio to discuss the motive!" Sam added.
"Everyone was there, including Miranda." Rory added.
"After our talk, we decided to call it a night and all went our separate ways to our huts." Gavin continued.
"The meeting was the last place Miranda was seen alive." Harvey wrapped up. "Unless somebody else saw her after the meeting."
"Did anyone see Miranda after the meeting?" Henry asked.
"I know somebody who did." I answered.
"And who would that be?" Bridget asked.
"That would be me." Dane answered.
"Figures." Ellen rolled her eyes.
"Looking pretty guilty again, aren't you, water girl!" Harvey laughed.
"Knock it off, Harvey." I ordered. Dane and Miranda were together, so it makes sense he saw her."
"Anything else you would like to share, Dane?" Irene asked.
"Not much, unfortunately." Dane answered, quite sadly. "After the meeting, we walked back to my hut, together. And Miranda ended up staying in my hut tonight."
"That's some gross little bitch sex." Simon snickered.
"Simon, stop that!" Irene hissed.
"Anyway..." Dane sadly continued. "I don't at all recall the time, but Miranda woke me up to tell me she was using the bathroom, and went she left my hut, that ended up being the last time I saw her."
"I'm so sorry, Dane!" Sam cried.
"We're all sorry!" Gavin agreed.
"Don't be sorry!" Sapphire cut in, he could of followed her to the bathrooms and killed her!"
"Sapphire! Enough!" Irene ordered.
"Enough for all of you idiots." Ellen ordered. "Nobody was doing anything in the middle of the night that can provide alibi or add more information about the murder, so enough talking about before hand. Let's discuss what actually happened in the girls bathroom."
"You mean the details of how Miranda was killed?" Harvey asked.
"Yes, you idiotic dumbass."
"Uuuuhhhh..."
"An awful lot happened in the girls bathroom." Bridget replied.
"There was shit everywhere!" Rory added.
"What details are we exactly aiming for?" Henry asked.
"I don't think the crime scene is as complicated as we're making it out to be." Irene insisted. "Of course it is horrifying with how the murder went down, but I think we can all agree on that the killer bashed Miranda's head into the mirror, before finishing the job with the glass shards in her hands and eyes."
"Wait, Irene!" I replied.
"Yes, Natalie?"
"Don't make that big of an assumption. There is way more to this murder than the killer simply bashing Miranda into the mirror."
"You think something more went down in the bathroom, Natalie?" RK asked.
"Yes, I do."
"I will survive this!" Irene screamed.
"Huh? What?! Irene?!" I was so confused.
"I'm sorry, Natalie. I know you are just doing your best, but I also have to do my best. I am the leader after all. And for my best, I'm gonna have to fix your mistake."
"Huh? What mistake?"
"Don't worry, Natalie. I'm here to help you."
Rebuttal Showdown.
Irene looked ready to go with her argument. "Like I mentioned before, I know the crime scene was hard to look at, but it still all so simple. The killer caught Miranda by surprise in the bathroom. They grabbed her head and bashed it into the mirror. After that, they threw her injured body onto the ground, and then used four different glass shards. Two for her hands, and two in her eyes, that ultimately finished her off!"
It was my turn, and I wasn't backing down. "Really good idea on how the murder went down, Irene. And I can tell you're doing a good job, trying to serve everyone as the leader, but you left something out. More actions happened in the murder of Miranda."
"And what actions would those be? Maybe before the killer bashed Miranda's head into the mirror, they first hit her head on the sink, there was blood on the sink. But other than that, that should still be it. The broken glass, the blood, the injuries, we all saw it at the crime scene, Natalie. And also keep in mind that Miranda was definitely one of the weaker people on this island in terms of strength, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone said pretty much everyone who could be the killer wouldn't have any trouble taking her dow, especially if they caught her by surprise in the bathroom!"
"I appreciate how hard Irene is trying, but she is still leaving stuff out, and I know how to show her!" I thought to myself.
"Now that that is settled..."
"I'll cut your argument in two!"
"Wait!" I cried. "You really are leaving stuff out, Irene!"
"Am I?" Irene asked.
"Yeah, you are. The broken tablet."
"Broken tablet?"
"Since when was there a broken tablet?" Harvey asked.
"It was at the fucking crime scene, you fat dumb fuck." Simon replied.
"That pile of broken parts." I added. "That is the remains of a tablet, and the killer's tablet I believe."
"Wow, really?!" Dane exclaimed.
"I thought that piled look familiar." Henry added.
I nodded. "Yeah, this is how I believe it went down. The killer first struck Miranda with their tablet, most likely by bashing her on the head with it. But of course, that wouldn't of killed her, but they did end up breaking their tablet to pieces, which is when they used the sink, mirror, and glass shards to finally commit their murder."
"Man that is fucked up." Rory commented.
"Agreed, but that is how the attack on Miranda occurred."
"I see what you're saying, Natalie." Irene replied. "But would the killer really try to commit murder by using their tablet?"
"I agree, it does appear to be hard to believe, but during the investigation, RK brought up a good point."
"And what is that good point?" Gavin asked.
"Why did the killer choose the bathrooms as their murder location?" RK asked. "They're unpredictable, anyone could honestly of entered any side during any point of the night, and two or more people could of entered at the same time."
"Which would of fucked up any murder plans!" Sam added.
"Right, so why did the killer choose the bathrooms? Were they hiding on the girls side until Miranda walked in? Did they start on the boys side first? Were they just lurking around outside until someone came along to use the bathroom?"
"Too many questions!" Harvey complained.
"But it is all important." I continued. "RK also brought up the possibility that Miranda wasn't the killer's target. If they were just waiting for the first person that came by, it could have been anyone honestly."
"I do see where I was wrong." Irene replied, who now appeared down. "I do apologize for wasting time."
"Don't worry about it!"
"No, we do need to worry about it." Ellen frowned. "We don't have all the time in the world to be wrong."
"Ellen is right, I just feel worse now."
"Irene, what's wrong?" Bridget asked with concern.
"Miranda was killed because she went to the bathrooms, I was suppose to work out a buddy system when we first woke up on this island. We knew that going to the bathrooms in the middle of the night would be dangerous, we were suppose to have some kind of system!"
"Irene, it isn't your fault!" Gavin assured.
"Yeah!" Dane agreed. "I should of gone with Miranda to the bathroom, I know I should of!"
"And we all should of worked out a buddy system for this entire time!" Sam added.
"We're all to blame for a lack of safe bathroom visits, not just you, Irene." Bridget insisted.
"Oh I'm gonna fucking puke out shit." Simon muttered.
"Wow man, way to ruin the moment." Rory replied.
"The only thing ruined was my tablet!" Aqua Tail yelled. "Those things aren't cheap!"
"We don't care about the stupid tablet!" Henry shouted.
"RUDE!"
"Hey guys, I got an idea!" Gavin exclaimed.
"What is it, Gavin?" I asked.
"If we're set on that broken tablet belongs to the killer, then whoever doesn't have their tablet must be the killer!"
"Hang on." Bridget replied. "Are we sure the killer used their own tablet? Is it at all possible they used someone else's or one that belongs to someone who died?"
Aqua Tail, do we have access to the tablets of the deceased?" RK asked.
"Well, I really don't want to help you." Aqua Tail answered. "But this trial does have to be fair, so no. Nobody has access to the tablets that once belonged to the former living. I took them all back."
"Alright, that checks out!" Rory cheered.
"But how can we be sure the killer didn't use someone else's tablet?" Sapphire asked.
"Does anyone remember someone else borrowing or taking their tablet?" Gavin asked.
No one answered.
"Alright!" Sam cheered. "Also, I saw Miranda's tablet on her body, so the killer didn't use hers!"
"I saw it too." I added.
"Didn't the killer really did break their own tablet." Irene confirmed.
"Awesome!" Gavin exclaimed. "Now, whoever doesn't have a tablet on them is the killer!"
Simon snickered. "And just how many of you dumb assholes don't have your tablets?"
It took a few moments for everyone to realize, but nearly everyone in the court room left their tablet in their hut when Aqua Tail had called everyone to the bathrooms.
"I have mine." Ellen answered. She held up her tablet and had turned it on to show that it belonged to her.
"Well, it isn't a total waste!" Gavin assured. "At least we say for sure that Ellen isn't the killer."
"Yeah, one person out of thirteen, that is so great!" Sapphire said quite sarcastically.
"Fucking dumbass." Simon snickered.
"Hey! Fuck off!" Sam replied, quite angrily. "You forgot your tablet too, Simon!"
"How are we going to get back into our huts?" Harvey asked.
"That isn't important at all." Ellen shot back. "Focus on the trial, you idiots."
"Everybody, please." Irene begged.
I started to get a bit anxious, so I started playing with my ponytail. "Things are starting to heat up again." I thought to myself. "And I'm not sure we're on the right track."
