Tree Hill Elementary School
"We always loved you." Lucas's words circled around in her mind and stuck. She glared up at him.
"The two of you are just meeting me. What does that even mean.?" Angie replied.
"There is story hour every week at the library. We'll take you to the next one. We need to go home. I can explain better what i mean there." Lucas replied.
Angie wrapped her arms around herself. Pouting. As she pressed her forehead against the glass of the window from the backseat in her booster chair.
Originally Brooke and Lucas planned to sit Angie down ad explain their shared history together. He knew his wife would understand why this talk had to happen now.
Once they got back to the house and were seated inside the home. Lucas focused his gaze on her. In his hands an album.
"I just want the truth from someone. No more stories or lies." Angie said.
"This baby book belongs to you." Lucas announced. Running his hands gently over the fabric cover and multiple sized A's on the front.
Angie eyes went from Lucas to the book in his hands.
"I don't understand." Angie replied.
"Me. You. And Brooke. Aren't strangers at all. We are connected. More like old friends that lost track of each other. When you were a baby. Just a few months old. You sent here to Tree Hill for heart surgery. Brooke was chosen as you're caregiver."
"When she picked you up at the airport. It was love at first sight."
"Us closest to her knew this temporary arrangement would end up breaking her heart but Brooke was all in. Her and I took care of you. Before surgery and after."
"She was basically living in the hospital while you recovered. Neither of us had much experience with babies. You changed that for us both. By the time you had to go home. Neither of us wanted to see you leave."
"But Brooke grew so attached to you. I was there at the airport when she had to give you back. She fell apart. Us willingly opening our hearts and home to you for a second time is a decision we didn't have to think twice about. We weren't able to keep in contact so we had no idea what happened to you."
"You've always felt like ours. Even though our time together wasn't long. I'm sorry for the pain and heartbreak you're going through."
"It's wrong and unfair. But you're parents love you. I don't ever want you to doubt that. Sometimes. Loving someone means letting go. As for Brooke and I. You aren't alone in the world for a second. You have us." Lucas proclaimed.
Angie found herself feeling alot of emotions at once. She wanted to cry and scream but instead she just handed over the book the purchased from the book store.
"Can you read to me.?" She asked Lucas.
Lucas nodded his head in agreement. He opened book and began to read out the loud the collection of children's poems.

Sometime Later
New York City
Parker and Mackenzie Breckenridge had been avoiding calls and voicemails from Angie's lawyer for the past few weeks. Eventually though the woman wore them down pushing them to reach back out to her.
After hearing Brooke and Lucas Scott plead on Angie's account. The couple knew their daughter deserved a proper goodbye. Which is why they made their way to Tree Hill for her final last encounter with their little girl.
"Momma! Daddy! I've missed you so much!" Angie exclaimed. rushing into their arms. In the entryway of Brooke and Lucas's home.
Brooke took a deep breath. Clutching Lucas's hand hard. Her other hand was placed on her belly. She was now 14 weeks into her pregnancy officially past the safe zone and yet the two hadn't revealed they were pregnant to anyone yet. They would once they were ready.
It's going to be fine. Angie needs this. It will allow her to get some peace and closure." Lucas reassured his wife.
Brooke just couldn't get rid of the pit in her stomach when she saw and thought of these people. Something about them lacked authentic pain and heartbreak that she expected to see.
...
"Come on. Let me show you my room!" Angie announced. Leading her parents up the stairs by the hand.
Catching a glimpse of the couple as she paced in the living room.
She felt it again that punch in the stomach. As if they were holding on to information they hadn't revealed.
The couple looked around the room then back at their daughter.
Mackenzie gazed lovingly at her daughter.
Parker made a mental note of this moment. Needing to hold on and capture it.
"Daddy and I went about things all wrong. We're sorry for making you feel hurt and alone. You mean everything to us." She reassured her.
Angie breathed a sigh of relief. "Why can't i come with you.?" She questioned.
"Because you deserve the whole world not just watching the world go by through the window." Parker replied.
Mackenzie wrapped a simple heart necklace around Angie's neck.
"You hold onto that and all we taught you. Our bright light." Mackenzie instructed.
The couple pulled her in for one last hug. Before they left the room.
Angie watched from the window in her room as they drove away.
Tears fell from her eyes. Knowing she was never going to see them again. And that it was on her to find a way to let them go.
