It was already Thursday and Jack's heart skipped a beat everytime he thought of what he was going to do this weekend. He was going to propose to the love of his life. Jack needed to bide himself time to sit and hatch a plan. He wanted to make the weekend perfect for her. He smiled to himself as he stood in the doorway of Maya's office and asked the one person who he thought would help with this.
"Hey Maya, I'm taking a half a sick day. Since Andy and I carpooled here today, do you think you can give Andy a ride home?" Jack asked as he stood in the doorway of Maya's office.
Maya just looked up and looked at Jack, "You don't look too sick to me Gibson."
"Seriously Maya."
"I'm just saying you don't look sick, so what's going on that you wanna take a half a sick day when you have the next two days off?"
Jack looked at her, shook his head and came into her office closing the door. "I was going to surprise Andy with a night in tonight, make dinner, watch her favorite movie, light some candles, play some music. Just give her a night to relax."
"That's sweet, she definitely deserves that." Maya said, looking at Jack, "Why do I feel though that you have more planned than just a relaxing night for Andy?"
"I don't, just trying to help my girlfriend to relax some." Jack said.
Maya looked at Jack, he wasn't going to cave though and tell her his plan, especially when he wasn't even 100% on what all he wanted to do. "Fine, I'll bring her home after shift."
"Thanks Maya, she's out on a call with Dean I think, I'm going to sneak out before she gets back, I'll text her what's going on."
"Yeah, you owe me Gibson! Don't burn the apartment down either, I've heard and tasted your cooking!" Maya yelled after him as he left.
In the aid car, Andy looked down at her phone as Dean was driving back to the station. "That's weird, hey did Jack not seem to be feeling well when you talked to him today?"
"No he seemed fine to me. Why?" Dean asked looking over at Andy.
"He just texted me saying that he wasn't feeling too well so he went home and that Maya is going to give me a ride home." Andy read the text he had sent.
"Jack hardly ever takes a sick day or leaves early. Hopefully he isn't catching the flu. I heard it's bad this year." Dean said.
"Yeah, I heard that too." Andy said as she texted him back, telling him to feel better and that she would see him a little after 6.
Jack had started dinner when he got home. Over the past month he had started to get some better with cooking, not much but some. He went back to their bedroom after putting the pasta into the sauce and grabbed the engagement ring, he wasn't planning to propose tonight, no that was coming tomorrow, but he was hoping that having it out would help him figure out what exactly he wanted to say when he asked Andy tomorrow at the restaurant. He sat down on the couch and looked at the ring and smiled. It was crazy that he was asking her already, he knew that but he loved her, he couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with her. Jack heard a car honk and peeked out the window as he saw Andy make her way up the front stairs, he had lost track of time. He quickly ran back into the kitchen putting the ring box into his pocket as he went.
"Hey I'm home, how are you feeling?" Andy yelled as she hung up her coat and put her shoes into the hall closet.
That's when she heard some soft music coming from what she thought was the kitchen. As she walked closer the music got a little louder. When she got there she was shocked to see what was in there. Jack had some candles lit around the kitchen and her favorite pasta dish sitting on the table ready for them to eat.
"Surprise." Jack said.
"Jack Patrick Gibson what did you do? I thought you weren't feeling well?"
"I lied, I came home to get this ready. For the next 48 hours you are going to sit back and relax."
"I like the sound of that." Andy said, leaning up to give him a kiss. "Thank you."
"Anything for my girl."
Andy smiled, she loved it when he called her that.
The two ate dinner and talked about a bunch of different things. That was one thing both loved, they have known each other for so long, yet they never ran out of anything to talk about. When they were cleaning up Andy heard the song "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri come on.
"I love this song." Andy said as she put her plate down humming along to the song.
"Do you wanna dance?" Jack asked.
"Right here, in the kitchen?" Andy laughed.
"Why not." Jack said, taking her hand.
Andy laughed as they started to sway to the music.
"Thank you for doing this, I needed this tonight." Andy said looking up at Jack.
"I'd do anything for you, you know that right." Jack said, as he spun Andy out.
Andy laughed as she put her head against his chest. Jack leaned down and kissed the top of her head and rested his chin on the top of her head.
As the song ends and another song starts they stay like this just dancing to the music.
"You know for someone who says they can't dance you're not doing bad." Andy said looking up at him.
"Well that's because we're not moving much, make me move much more and you'll probably end up with a broken foot." Jack said, causing Andy to laugh. "Hey come with me, I got something for you."
"Jack, you didn't have to get me anything." Andy said as she followed him back towards their room.
Jack grabbed the earring box out of the draw and quickly put the ring box back in his draw without her seeing it. "Well it's not completely from me. Robert and you had something to do with it."
Andy looked at Jack weird, "I'm sorry but how do Robert and I fit into something that you got for me?"
Jack held out the box to her. "Open it and see."
Andy took the box and opened it up to reveal a beautiful set of gold, ball earrings. "Jack, these are beautiful."
"You're the one that's beautiful." Jack said, smiling at her.
Andy just shook her head at him. "I still don't understand though."
"They were you and Robert's wedding bands."
Andy's head snapped up at Jack and her hand flew up to her mouth. "They are?"
"You told me to get rid of them, I couldn't do that. Travis overhead you and me talking with Maya in the office right after you had taken them off and he told me about this place that takes old pieces of jewelry and changes them into new pieces. I thought that these would be…"
"Perfect, Jack they are perfect! Thank you so much!" she said and threw her arms around him as she let some tears fall. "Thank you for not listening to me getting rid of them."
Jack hugged her back and chuckled, "Since when do I ever listen to you."
Andy smiled as she pulled back from him and looked at the earrings.
"Well what are you waiting for? Try them on."
Andy got them out and put them on smiling at her reflection when she looked at them in the mirror. "I can't believe you did this. What happened to my engagement ring? Is that in with these?"
"I didn't do that. I still have the engagement ring over in your old room. I thought you may want it for something someday." Jack said as they sat down on the bed.
"I don't know what I would ever do with it but thank you for not getting rid of that either." she said as she gave him another kiss.
"Well, I don't know about you but I'm tired after my half a shift and getting all this ready, what do you think about getting ready for bed and watching a movie?" he asked her.
"Sounds like the perfect night, will you let me pick the movie?"
"It is your night." Jack said, not knowing what movie she was going to pick.
"Get Nicholas Sparks pulled up on paperview and see what movies are up while I get changed." Andy said as she ran into the bathroom to wash her face and change.
"Nevermind we're going to pick together."
"Jack Patrick Gibson."
Jack shook his head. "I'm kidding, I'll get it pulled up… Okay so The Last Song and The Longest Ride are what is coming up."
Andy popped her head out of the bathroom, "Is that even a question, The Longest Ride, I don't feel like crying because of a dad dying from cancer in The Last Song."
"How was I to know that was what that movie was." Jack said as he got up to change.
"Oh Gibson you have so much to learn about chick flicks."
"And I have a feeling you're going to try and teach me all about them." he said laughing.
As the movie was ending Jack smiled thinking of everything he and Andy had gone through and could just imagine what someone would think if they read about their love life like Luke and Sofia were reading about Ira's and his wifes.
"That could be about us someday, having someone read about our love story." Jack smiled at the thought. "They'd be in for quite a ride already with the story we have huh… Andy?" He looked down and smiled seeing Andy fast asleep with her head on his chest. He kissed the top of her head. "Goodnight Andy, I love you."
Andy mumbled something in her sleep, but it sounded offly alot like 'I love you too Jack.'
