She was floating, her body feeling weightless as she felt herself drift through the clouds. Her brown eyes were half opened, her conscious semi aware of her surroundings. She was...nowhere. Yet somehow, her body continued to travel.
There was a light, as bright as the sun during a clear blue day. It caressed her face, and she closed her eyes as it bothered her eyes. The intensity of the light lessened, and she felt a warmness that she hadn't felt in years. The warmness was more apparent by her forehead, and she opened her eyes to see brown eyes looking back down at her. Misako smiled as she brushed her daughter's hair, humming a sweet melody.
"Mom," Rin whispered, "I've...missed you… I wish you were with me,"
"I'll always be here for you, Rin. I'll always be watching!"
"But I can't do this alone," Rin said, feeling frustrated. Years of suffering and now...now… "I'm pregnant, mom. I-I can't do this alone!"
Misako wiped her tears away, "But you're not alone. You have someone special in your life now, and I'll always be watching you,"
Misako then placed her hand on her daughter's abdomen, "He'll protect you and your babies,"
Rin closed her eyes, her thoughts showing her an image of him: Obito.
"And I'll protect all of you," her mother finished before stepping back.
Rin tried to stand but couldn't, her body immobilised. "Mom, wait,"
"It's time for you to wake up,"
"But-"
"Remember, I'm watching,"
"Mom, please don't go,"
Finally, she felt her legs and toes move. Her body shook a bit and her eyesight blurred.
"...Rin…"
She slowly regained consciousness. There was a soft loving touch on her cheek, and she moved her head towards it. The touch was familiar, and her mind became more awake as she felt a thumb brush her cheek.
"Rin…"
The male voice said again, and she opened her eyes. The hand went from the side of her face to her hair, brushing it away from her face. She looked up, feeling the butterflies in her stomach as he smiled down at her.
"You're finally awake," Obito said. He continued to caress her face lovingly.
"...Obito…" she whispered, her mind suddenly trying to register what was going on. She looked around, immediately noting that she was in an unfamiliar place. The smell, the look...it was a hospital room. She was in the hospital.
"Hey," he held her left hand, "How are you feeling?"
She tried to sit up but stopped when feeling her right arm constrained. Turning her head, she analyzed the large white cast placed around it. It suddenly came to her. She had been with Anko in the car. The dark pickup truck was following them, and then-
"Where's Anko?!" Rin asked, eyes widened with panic, "Is she alright?"
"She's fine. Sleeping. I checked in on her an hour ago,"
"Was she badly hurt?"
"She's also in a cast, but not as bad as you. You'll see her when she's awake,"
Rin felt much better knowing that her friend was OK. Sighing in relief, she relaxed on the bed and closed her eyes.
Obito examined her reaction carefully. The nurse had warned him that some temporary memory loss would be present. And considering she hadn't asked about Izumi or Baki, he figured that she couldn't remember those two past occasions. Not yet, at least. He was about to wonder if she remembered their last conversation, something he had to apologize for.
"I don't remember anything before the car accident," Rin said, and Obito became worried.
"The nurse said that you'll be experiencing some temporary memory loss,"
This also meant that she probably didn't remember taking a pregnancy test.
"Why was I at Anko's?"
He knew that lying to her would be worse. And while he didn't know exactly why she went to Anko, he could imagine it had to do with the way he had spoken to her the night before. He guessed that she probably needed someone to talk to in regards to Izumi's accident.
"Not sure," Obito said. It wasn't a lie, even though he could guess why, "But I'm sure you'll remember soon,"
Rin closed her eyes and nodded, "I feel...tired...very tired…"
"You hit your head hard. Get some rest, I'll be here,"
Rin opened her tired eyes just as he leaned down and gave her lips a soft peck. She smiled up at him before going back to sleep.
After making sure that she was fully asleep, Obito sighed and paced around the room. She had been asleep for nearly a day. Obito had taken the day off, entrusting Nagato with any major decisions and initiatives for the next two weeks while he watched over Rin.
He had only gone home once in order to change and shower, coming back to the hospital immediately to ensure that he was there when Rin woke up. His mind was preoccupied on several things.
Hashirama, ready for retirement, ordered an immediate investigation into the entire police station. He appointed someone trustworthy, a quiet man who went by the name Yamato. Paired with Baki, the two would investigate the allegations of fraud and attempted murder. While Rin had been asleep, the quiet Yamato had stopped by and introduced himself to Obito. He asked him questions, wanting to understand how his relationship with Rin started and what he knew in regards to her father. The Uchiha millionaire responded truthfully, asking Yamato at the end what more he could do to ensure Rin's safety.
"We have a case where there are multiple officers who are corrupt. I suggest being very vigilant of any law enforcement stopping by for any reason," the young investigator had said before taking his leave.
Obito's mind had then gone to the main thing that kept him from thinking about anything else: Rin was pregnant. At first he hadn't been sure how to feel; his mind had been stuck on the fact that he couldn't even protect the expecting mother, the love of his life. He recalled the words he had told her, how cruel he had sounded to her while under the influence. He thought about the ways he would apologize to her. Dinner and romantic dates wouldn't do. Rin was a different type of woman. He would have to try harder. And then, they would be able to talk about the baby. The baby had him feeling both excited and nervous. The idea of starting a family with her had him grinning, envisioning their future already. He would have to buy a house, preferably away from the city. That way, the child could run around in the backyard. He would build his kid a treehouse, and probably get a dog. Obito had a lot of things in mind about how he wanted to give his child the best life ever.
There was a knock on the door, before it opened and revealed a smiling Mikoto. She had a bag in hand.
"Has she woken up yet?"
"Briefly," Obito replied, "About fifteen minutes ago. The nurse told me to expect her to have bad concussions for a while,"
The older woman stood next to the sleeping young woman before taking a seat next to Obito.
"How are you doing?" Mikoto asked. She knew that Obito had barely left the room since the moment Rin was admitted to the hospital.
"Anxious. She's only woken up once, but only for a few minutes. She asked about her friend, Anko,"
"So she remembers the accident,"
"Yes. But she doesn't remember why she was with Anko,"
"So she may not remember the shooting?"
Obito shook his head, "I don't think so. She also doesn't remember knowing-"
He stopped, wondering if it was the right moment to bring it up. But it was too late, and Mikoto raised an eyebrow.
"Knowing what, Obito?"
He hesitated for a moment, but figured that in this situation, he would need Mikoto's advice on what to do. "Rin is pregnant,"
The woman gasped before smiling and patting his shoulder. "That explains the look you've had on your face,"
"What look?"
"The same look Fugaku had when I told him I was pregnant with Itachi,"
Obito chuckled. He knew what type of look she was referring to. Seems like Itachi wasn't planned.
"...I feel unprepared. Very...unprepared for this,"
"All parents do, especially the first time ones. But you'll do great. Both of you will,"
"I'm also worried about their safeties," Obito, now referring to Rin and the child she was now carrying, "Someone else tried to harm her, and we still don't know who. Physically, it couldn't be her father since he's in custody. What if this man walks in here and…"
Obito paused, imagining the worse. He couldn't leave Rin alone. Not until everything was solved. This person could be hiding in plain sight, and all of them wouldn't be ready for the next time he struck.
"I understand. But also remember to take care of yourself. You look very tired,"
That was very true. His fear of someone hurting Rin had kept him from getting any good sleep.
"It won't do you any good, nor will it help with Rin's case,"
Obito remained quiet, yet he agreed with her. He was exhausted.
"Let's do this," Mikoto said, standing up, "Fugaku and I will stay here. We'll both stay in this room. Have Shisui drive you home, and when you get there… take a shower and get a good sleep. Also, eat this. I made extra food since Izumi hates the food here,"
"What if Rin wakes up?"
"We'll tell her that you'll be back, that you needed some sleep or else you'll be the third person admitted to this hospital. And yes, we'll call you if she wakes up. But Obito, please… get some sleep,"
The man nodded and stood, walking over to his sleeping partner. Bending down, he kissed her cheek before turning to Mikoto.
"Alright,"
Fifteen minutes later, Fugaku arrived at the room with Mikoto's sewing supplies. By that time, Shisui had taken Obito's car and driven him home.
"Remind me to buy more fabric," she said.
"How many sweaters and hats are going to knit for the kid?" Fugaku asked curiously, referring to izumi's newborn son, while crossing his arms in front of his chest.
Mikoto only smiled as she started to knit, quickly eyeing the sleeping Rin. "It's for someone else,"
Fugaku looked at her questioningly, but his wife didn't say anything else. Mikoto could only focus on knitting another white hat, feeling excited to know that the Uchiha family was expanding. Izumi's son will have someone near his age to play and grow up with. And by then, hopefully all of these problems would've been solved.
Several hours later…
Anko was chatty. That was the first thing that went through Yamato's mind as he sat on the chair with his notepad in hand. His partner, Baki, remained silent as the purple-haired girl continued talking.
"And then he just fucking pushes my car with his! He owes me a car now! Did you know that I only had that car for like a week? Yes, it wasn't fancy… But it was MY car!?"
"You said he," Baki said, "So this driver was male?"
Anko laid back on the hospital bed. "Yeah, he was definitely a dude. Short hair, probably balding. Looked fat,"
Yamato and Baki glanced at each other at first, and then the latter stood up. He took out a small picture and gave it to her.
"Looks like this?"
Anko grabbed the picture and her eyes widened, nodding quickly. "Yes! That was him! Who is this fucker anyway? He owes me a new car!"
"He's an ex-detective. He's no longer working at the station. Retired not too long ago actually,"
Her eyebrows furrowed, "Wh-Why would he do something like- wait! Does it have… was he the guy in charge of finding Rin's mom years ago? I remember her saying how he was lazy and always pushed her aside. How he barely did anything,"
"Yes," Baki replied, "This is why the details of our conversation and this case must be kept very quiet. We don't know who else could be involved,"
Once they wrapped up their conversation, the men went to Rin's room. The girl was still unconscious, and they decided to stop by the next day early morning. They already had enough information to bring charges to the former detective.
But before getting there, they chose to make one extra stop.
Ever since finding out about the affair her husband had years ago, Biwako had an internal struggle. As a matter of fact, she still did. It was something she couldn't deny.
To forgive...or not to forgive?
After a week or two of back and forth, Hiruzen had finally given her all of the details of his affair with Misako. How the affair started when he found Misako at the grocery store. He had noticed the bruise under her eye, and after questioning she told him that Danzo had gotten angry at her and latched out. That even though her eye hurt, it was better for her to take the hit and not her daughter. Rin was just eight years old at the time.
With that information, Biwako had known that her husband's cheating ways were over a decade old. And that it went on and off since. Right under her nose.
With both of her children now grown, Biwako wasn't sure what to do. Here she was, married to someone who kept a lie for so long that it made her numb. She was no longer young, or else she would've divorced him without much thought. But she was an older woman, and she wasn't sure what to do.
Luckily, her two sons were there for her. No matter what decision she made, they would support her.
After much thinking and reading, Biwako chose to stay. She chose to save her marriage and stay. Hiruzen had been happy with the decision, and both of them were ready to start a new chapter in their marriage. Forgiveness and moving on.
...But that happiness halted the moment two investigators showed up looking for her husband.
"We would like to speak to your husband regarding the disappearance of Misako Nohara and what he knows about those who led the investigation six years ago,"
Biwako could only blink, and by that time Hiruzen came downstairs. He sighed before turning his attention to his wife. "Make us some tea, OK? It's...going to be a while…"
Baki could tell that the wife already knew some things, but not everything. After giving him and Yamato their cups of tea, she sat down next to her husband and almost glared at them. Her glares didn't phase Baki. He knew that soon enough, she would be directing her glare back to her husband.
"We would like to first know how your affair with Misako started," Yamato said.
Biwako groaned, knowing that she would have to listen to the details again. There was a pause, and her husband turned his face to her. He had an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry, honey…"
Biwako was about to tell him that it would be OK. She would still forgive him. She already knew the details-
"I first met Misako over twenty-years ago. At a party...and we started dating,"
Biwako's eyebrows began furrowing, her eyes widening. This was different from what he had told her. Hiruzen continued, even though he could sense how his wife was feeling.
"We dated for a while...and then we stopped when she got pregnant,"
"Why did you stop?"
Hiruzen sighed, "She...She was also seeing Danzo at that time. And she wasn't sure if the child was his or mine,"
Baki wrote everything down before looking at him, "And this child was...Rin?"
Hiruzen nodded, and Biwako gulped as she felt her tears roll down her face. Once again, this man lied to her. This lie went as far as the moment she had just given birth to Asuma.
"So what you're saying is that Rin could be your daughter? Or was DNA testing done to disprove that?"
"We...never had a test done,"
"Was Danzo aware? Did he have DNA testing done?"
Hiruzen shook his head, "Danzo wasn't aware that Misako and I were sleeping together around the same time they were. So he never bothered to question anything in regards to Rin,"
"So...all this time...there was a chance that Rin could be your daughter?" Biwako finally inquired, her eyes red as she spoke with tears rolling down her face.
"Biwako, listen. I'm-"
Slap!
Yamato and Baki remained still and quiet, having just watched as Biwako's hand made contact with her husband's face. Hiruzen rubbed the sore spot before facing his wife. He was about to apologize, but she stormed away.
With an embarrassed look, he then turned towards the two men. They still had a neutral look on their faces.
"I-I'm sorry about that… I...didn't tell her...everything,"
"We can see that," Yamato said, bringing the topic back, "So you and Misako dated on off until her disappearance. She was pregnant with her second child during that time, and that was most likely yours?"
Hiruzen nodded, "Yes. She was pregnant with...my child. I wanted to get her away from Danzo. I knew that sooner or later, he would find out about it and hurt her. So I wanted to do something for her,"
"If you knew how violent Danzo was, and also the fact that Rin could also be your daughter, why not act sooner? Why wait?"
Hiruzen shook his head, "I...didn't want to lose my wife...nor my children,"
"...So you sat back and watched your potential daughter be abused by a man who was probably not her father?"
Hiruzen covered his face with his hands, "I know it's a cowardly move… But I love Biwako and I didn't want to lose my family!"
Yamato changed the topic again. He didn't care about this man and his failing marriage. He pulled out the picture that they had earlier shown to Anko.
"Do you know this man? On a personal level?"
Hiruzen grabbed the photo and nodded. "Y-Yeah… I met him in one of the parties that I used to go to,"
"And what type of parties were these?" Baki asked, finally speaking up. He saw how Hiruzen froze for a moment, and knew that he had him trapped.
Hiruzen cleared his throat, coughing several times. "Um… I-It… This was years ago. Many years ago. I don't do this anymore. A-And besides-"
"Was it the cocaine or heroin that had you returning?"
Hiruzen's eyes widened, knowing that he couldn't escape the question. "C-Cocaine… B-But this was two decades ago! And I stopped once Asuma was born-"
"We don't care what you sniffed back then," Baki said with a sigh, "The house that Danzo, Rin, and Misako resided in was used as a funnel for drugs. The operations had been busted around the same time you stopped. But it seems like it may have moved elsewhere,"
Hiruzen didn't say anything to that, his mind still on Biwako.
"We'll take our leave now. Thank you for the information,"
The detectives left, and Hiruzen closed the door after them tiredly. He was about to start planning his apology to his wife, but stopped when he saw her coming with two packed suitcases.
"Wh-Where are you going?"
"It's over!" she yelled, pushing him aside, "Why don't you go make amends with your daughter! You cheating, filthy lying bastard!"
Next Day…
Obito felt more relaxed than ever, waking up from an eleven-hour sleep. It was almost six in the morning, still early. But he preferred it that way. There was only a text from Mikoto, letting him know that Rin was still unconscious but had been moving briefly around the bed. Doctors expect her to be fully awake today. And if everything went well, she would be able to be discharged tomorrow evening. Mikoto had also advised him to bring extra clothes for her, something comfortable in order to accommodate the cast on her right arm.
Feeling optimistic about the news, Obito took a long shower and had a large breakfast. He expected to be at the hospital for the entirety of today, especially if she would be discharged tomorrow.
Afterwards, he grabbed a duffel bag and placed some extra clothes for her. He wasn't too sure what she would need, but knew that it would have to be basic. Starting with her lingerie, he grabbed a pair of black panties with a blue bra. He opened the second drawer and grabbed a pair of faded jeans. He was about to grab one of her t-shirts but stopped, remembering that one of her arms was in a cast. Putting the t-shirt back, he went to the closet and grabbed a light pink button-down shirt. It wasn't until he looked down that he also realized that she would need an extra pair of shoes. How could he forget? Bending down, he grabbed a pair of light gray sneakers and socks before putting it all in the bag and leaving.
He was in the hospital in less than thirty minutes, getting the visitor tag and navigating through the halls. As he got closer to her room, he slowed down before gently opening the door. Fugaku was not in the room, but Mikoto was there. She was knitting what looked like a small hat.
"A second one?"
She answered him while focusing on her work, "It's for your kid,"
Obito chuckled, setting down the duffel bag. "Rin's not even showing yet,"
Mikoto slightly shrugged, "I'll knit a couple of more by the time she has the child. By the way, the doctor came in a few minutes ago. They will be checking her arm to make sure it's healing properly,"
He nodded, sitting next to her and holding her hand. "How is Izumi doing?"
"Very well, actually. She's spending most of her time with Izumo,"
Izumo was the name Itachi and Izumi had given their son. Shisui had joked that they were the three i's. Obito had not seen the child yet, but Shisui had texted him a picture. The boy was very small, primarily due to being born prematurely.
"I will take my leave now. I'm going to see Izumi for a bit and then head home. Let us know when she wakes up. I'm sure she'll be very confused about everything,"
"Will do. Thank you,"
Mikoto grabbed her belongings and left.
Alone with Rin now, Obito leaned back on the chair and sighed. He browsed through his phone, searching random topics about parenthood. He clicked on an article that talked about first time fathers, the first few bullet points talking about interrupted sleep and finances. He wasn't worried about the finances piece. He would make sure that Rin and their child have everything they need. Sleep? Well, his insomnia could probably help here. He wouldn't mind staying up with the child and letting Rin get some sleep.
"...Wh-What are you reading…?"
Obito sat up straight and placed his phone away as his eyes met her tired brown ones. She had a slight smile on her face, and she looked very innocent yet fragile.
"Just...random stuff," he said, grabbing her hand, "You're awake,"
She gave a weak nod, "I...am," She then noticed his change of clothes, "You changed?"
"Yeah. Mikoto told me to get some rest and change,"
Obito watched as her eyes looked forward, widening quickly just as she tried to sit up. He quickly reacted and grabbed her shoulders, gently pushing her back down to the bed.
"I-Izumi? Where's Izumi? And her baby? What happened to her baby?"
"Relax, you're going to injure yourself-"
"Please tell me what happened to them," she was panicking, her mind suddenly showing her father pulling the trigger, and Izumi falling on the floor. There had been screams, Sasuke had tackled her father down before punching him repeatedly. The police and ambulance came shortly after, taking the semi-conscious woman away. And Rin could only watch in horror, frozen in her spot.
At home, Obito had been drinking. He had been angry, cursing about how her father should've been in jail a long time ago. How this could've been avoided if only she had allowed him to-
"Rin," Obito interrupted her thoughts, and she looked up at home as the rest of her memories came back like a flood, "Izumi and the baby are OK. She had the boy two days ago. He's premature but he's doing well. She's also doing well,"
She felt relief, calming down only a bit as his words registered. They were OK. Her father had not managed to kill them. Nonetheless, just thinking back about her father's intent had her panicking again. Her father pulled that trigger on them.
"They're alright…?"
"Yes," Obito said with a nod, "They are fine. And Izumi has been asking about you. She wanted me to call her the moment you were awake,"
"Why?"
"What you mean...why?"
"I...caused this, Obito. You were right. I should've reported my father months ago. No, years ago! She still could've died. It was pure luck that she or the baby didn't...die. It's still my fault-"
"Rin, no," He had been afraid that this would happen. That she would feel guilty and blame herself, "It's not your fault-"
"But it is, and you know it! You said it yourself-"
"I was wrong-"
"And I know your family feels the same way. How else would he have known where we were? Why would he be there in the first place! I'm his daughter!"
Obito was silent as he realized that she had most definitely overheard his phone conversation with Fugaku. Fugaku had wanted to know if Danzo had gotten their location from Rin. If she had told him about the party, or at least had given him any clues.
"Rin, what I said that night...and how I said it… I'm sorry. I wish...I could take it back. I was angry, but it was wrong of me to lash out at you. I'm really sorry,"
She was quiet, and he tried to analyze her expression. But it was hard, especially as she sat still with her head down. Her hair covered her face, a way of hiding from him.
There was a knock on the door, and he went to open it. Yamato and Baki stood on the other side. He wished that they had waited a little longer, but knew that what they were doing was extremely important.
"Rin," Baki called, and she looked up in surprise.
"Baki?"
"How are you feeling?"
"I'm...OK…" It was a lie. She was not OK.
"That's good to hear. I know you're still recovering, but we would like to ask you some questions. Before I forget, this is Yamato. He will be working with me on your case,"
Rin nodded, "My case? I thought it was...private?"
"Not anymore," Baki said, standing by one side of the room, "Rin, we may know who pushed you and Anko on the highway. And we believe that this person has ties to the disappearance of your mother,"
"R-Really? Who is he? Or her?"
"I first need you to see this picture, and tell me verbally if this is the vehicle that hit Anko's car,"
Rin looked at the picture and nodded. She still remembered it. "Yes, looks just like it,"
Baki put the picture away before eyeing her seriously. "Rin, the person behind the wheel is most likely Renzo Salamander-"
"The detective?" she asked loudly, and Baki nodded.
"Yes,"
"Why...would he do that?"
"We have a theory, and it has to do with your mother. Rin, some weeks ago human bones were found, and shortly after a suitcase emerged not far from where the bones were,"
Obito knew where this was leading to, and he looked at Rin as her eyes widened. She also knew where this was heading. And unfortunately, not in the way they had hoped.
"The suitcase had been locked up in storage due to pure negligence, but it is now in our possession. We opened it yesterday, and I took pictures of the items inside. I want to show you those pictures, and tell us whether you can identify them as your mother's belongings or not,"
Rin nodded, feeling her heart pounding loudly. Baki took out five pictures, and gave them to her. She looked at the first one and felt her body tremble as she recognized the suitcase. It had been the only suitcase her mother owned. Her eyes searched through the image, taking notice of the three wheels. The fourth one, looking exactly like those in the picture, was in her possession. Rin couldn't help as a tear rolled down her face, her trembling hand bringing the other pictures forward. The remaining pictures showed her mother's clothes. Her best dresses and shoes, as well as jewelry and lingerie. She remembered being with her mother when they had purchased these items from the thrift shops.
She went through each picture one more time, unable to contain her tears.
"Th-They… This suitcase...does belong to my mom...and the clothes...y-yes… I-I recognize them… I-I recognize them all,"
Yamato remained silent, and Baki nodded with a sigh. "Thank you. I know this isn't easy,"
Rin pressed her lips tightly and nodded, unable to say anything else.
"We will take our leave now," Yamato said, and he and Baki began to exit the room.
Baki paused for a moment and turned briefly to Obito, signaling him to follow. Obito did, and the three men stood outside of Rin's room.
"There's more, isn't there?" the Uchiha asked, and Baki nodded.
"Yes. Hiruzen Sarutobi,"
"What about him?"
"Well, we learned yesterday that he could be...Rin's biological father,"
Obito's eyes widened, "What? I thought...he was… I'm confused,"
"So am I," Baki said, "But he admitted to us and his wife yesterday that the affair he had with Rin's mother had actually started before Rin was even born. When Misako got pregnant, she had been with him and Danzo. And no DNA testing was done to see which of the two was Rin's father,"
"You have to be fucking kidding me," Obito groaned, "So he knew that there was a chance Rin could be his daughter and did nothing?"
Baki nodded, "Yes,"
Obito shook his head, "I don't know if this is something Rin should know about today. She feels guilty about what happened to Izumi and now with the suitcase… I'm worried that this would be too much for her,"
"I agree. Aside from clothes, her mother left behind two flash drives. They were hidden inside the sole of a shoe. Yamato and I will go through them tonight and will stop by tomorrow or the day after with what we know. By then, we will tell Rin about Hiruzen,"
"Alright," Obito agreed, "What about that detective?"
"That's where we're heading to next," Yamato said, "We are confident enough to make an arrest,"
"Alright,"
"Keep your eyes opened and senses alert, Obito," Baki suggested, "We think there may be a few more people involved,"
The Uchiha nodded before heading back to Rin's room, and the detectives exited the hospital.
XxXxX
Obito closed the door gently, keeping his eyes on her as she had her legs bent upwards. Her forehead rested on her knees, and her shoulders were shaking. He rushed to her side and sat on the bed this time, wrapping one arm around her carefully. He then pulled her closer, allowing her to cry on his chest.
Rin didn't say anything. Couldn't speak as her mind thought about the content within the pictures and the fact that bones had also been found. She didn't need Baki to tell her that those bones most likely belonged to her mother. That only meant that someone purposely harmed her mother, and buried her in order to hide the crime. And with everything suddenly happening at once, Rin was confident that her father probably had something to do with it. This only made her guilt increase and her sobs to grow louder, imagining the pain that her mother, Izumi, and her son went through by her father. And Rin felt liable for it all. If only she had been stronger, and had more guts when it came to dealing with her father instead of giving him a pass every time.
"Shhh, it's OK, Rin. I'm here,"
Obito hugged her carefully, mindful of the cast. He kissed her forehead and rubbed the back of her head with his hand. While his words and actions were aimed at reassuring her, Rin felt responsible for all of her father's actions.
