Revan sat alone in his darkened meditation chamber, his helmet resting beside him. A pair of Jedi holocrons floated in front of him, both chattering away at him. To any observer it would appear as if he was trying to drown out the world with noise, which he was, finding an excuse to avoid everyone around him and delve deeply into the Force. Running from the deep ache in his heart, he forced himself into visions of war searching for a way to destroy the being who'd forced this pain on him. His frustration grew as the harder he tried to drag an answer from the force the further away the answer seemed to become. Slowly around him more and more objects start floating, a pair of ceramic vases slowly cracking before he finally let go and all the objects slowly dropped back to the ground. His helmet lifts from the floor beside him and floats back onto his head sealing just as the door opens and a Clone steps through, "Sorry to disturb you Sir. Rex wants to talk to you."
"I'm on my way." he rose, the two holocrons floating to his hands. The Clone saluted and left, turning rapidly on his heel. Revan swept after him, his cloak flapping behind him in the wind of the ocean. He eventually found Rex sparring with pair of his brothers, it was a somewhat bizarre given the age of the Clone's bodies. While they are older their skills haven't diminished in the slightest, but watching them sparring is still an impressively strange site given both appear as old men boxing with excessive force. He stopped on the edge of the sandy arena, crossing his arms as he watched the two Clones went at it. Today it happens to be Jessie, the fight ended up being almost boring to watch as they both utilised almost exactly the same fighting style. However the personalities of each clone shone through, Anakin and Ahsoka's influence shining through when Rex suddenly dropped and pulled Jessie's right leg out from under him.
"Rex!" Revan called out distracting Rex just as he was about to win. Jessie took the opportunity to flip him over and steal a win for himself.
"Gah, Sir give me a minute." Rex grunted.
"You were the one who called me." Revan noted, not bothering to hide his irritation. In response to a pointed grunt from Rex, Jessie backed off releasing the Captain.
"Noted." Rex stood up, dusting himself off.
"What do you need Captain?"
"We need to talk about the girl Luke brought back." Rex said picking up his helmet.
"What about her? We know who and what she is from the Fulcrum network."
"That's the point, she shouldn't be here. She's trained for undercover, and she's basically an Inquisitor."
Revan sighed, "That may be, but Luke trusts her. That means something."
"Sir with all due respect to the abilities of the kid, but he's a kid dazzled by a beautiful girl." Rex shot back.
Revan sighed deeply, "I know, I know."
"Sir, I understand Luke's desire to help. But last time we met someone like her she betrayed us the moment she had freedom."
"Last time we thought we'd saved a Jedi from the Inquisitors. We know what we're doing this time." Revan stared walking towards the residential area of the settlement, "Seems Barris trusts him enough to leave our guest in his custody."
Rex sighed, "That's another thing Sir, I have a bad feeling about Barris. We have no idea what happened to her after the fall."
Revan turned back, "I know, I can feel it too. We are keeping an eye on her too, so far she has only shown loyalty and compassion to us and our cause."
"I still don't like it." Rex replied, walking purposefully towards the residential areas again, "Where is the girl right now?"
"With Luke at Kamui's."
"Then we need to go find them, I want to have a talk with Mara myself." Rex said firmly.
"You can if you want. We know everything we need to about her." Revan replied calmly, though he was slowly starting to bounce his left leg, "Do you know where Leia and Obi-Wan are?"
"Sir?"
"Leia's Force ever since she returned. I need to speak to her." There was an unusual amount of concern in his voice.
Rex sighed, "She's probably out by the cliffs. She goes there whenever she's upset."
Revan turned his gaze to the cliffs, simultaneously reaching out towards Leia. He could feel barely contained anger and frustration, her encounter with Jerec had scared her more then he'd thought. For a second his hand drifted towards his helmet, his hand dropping back to his side the when he realised what he was doing. Steeling himself he strode purposefully to awards the cliff, Leia's presence calming from a raging inferno to a rainy day. He arrived to find Obi-Wan sitting quietly, watching her run through a series of more defensive movement that appeared to based off Soresu. Taking her back to basics to cover for her far too aggressive Djem So she'd based off what she'd been taught when she was younger. She looked far more awkward in her movements than he was used to seeing her be, far more awkward than he'd like to see her.
"Obi-Wan." Revan said softly as he came to stand behind the older Jedi master.
Obi-Wan's gaze never shifted from Leia, "Her form is improving, but I think she would benefit more from your instruction than mine."
Revan clenched his jaw, "No, I'm not ready for that. Not yet."
Obi-Wan looked up at him, "You will have to tell them eventually, you can't run away for ever."
"I will when Palpatine is dead."
"So you plan to fight then." Obi-Wan replied raising an eyebrow.
"Ahsoka is right, we can't hide forever. Something is coming, since the girl arrived everyone has been on edge." Revan said, sitting beside his friend.
"Are you prepared to let them fight?" Obi-Wan asked gesturing at Leia, the motion catching her attention.
"I… I don't know yet."
"Revan?" Leia asked quietly.
He stopped and looked at her, "Leia, I'm checking on your training. I'm just an observer." He couldn't help, but be grateful for the helmet. The look in Leia's eyes broke his heart, for a second he almost lost his resolve. His hand twitching towards his helmet he stoped himself, "Leia, Obi-Wan is going to oversee your training in utilisation of the Force for now." He paused for a moment, "I will however be personally overseeing your combat training, seeing as Ahsoka is away."
Obi-Wan gave him a look that read, 'that's a reckless choice'. After a moment he stood and walked to the cliff edge, "Then will you take responsibility for Luke as well."
Revan frowned, "I don't believe that will be necessary, he is flourishing under you."
Obi-Wan sighed, "All this time, yet you still try to avoid it."
Leia looked between the two adults, sensing some conflict between them. A conflict that felt o so familiar, the same as when Revan had appeared with Alex after Mustafar. with no sign of her mother. However unlike that day she could feel something in Revan, but it was so faint she couldn't tell what the feeling was. Deciding it wasn't her problem, Leia elected to instead grin at Revan, "So when do we start?"
Obi-Wan gave Revan a bemused smile before replying, "You start tomorrow morning, with me to start."
"I'll take your training for the rest of the day, go get some rest then join us at the training grounds." Revan said, rising to his feet and without another word he walked off.
Across the settlement Anastasia and Thane were causing trouble for Threepo, largely by sneaking out the moment he turned his back on them. Anastasia leading Thane out through the window in their room, through the town down towards Luke's little hut on the beach. They stopped outside the hut when they heard their uncle's voice inside.
"…Obi-Wan insists tea before meditation helps find the current's in the Force, it never works for me. I do enjoy the taste though." The two children peered around the corner, to be met with the site of Luke pouring a golden red liquid into a deep blue glazed cup. Behind the cup sat Mara, her bright red hair creating a silhouette that instantly caught Anastasia's attention. Before she could say anything Thane dashed into the hut without warning, "Uncle Luuuuuuuuuuke!"
"Thane?" Luke said in surprise as he was hit by a Togrutan shaped missile.
Anastasia sheepishly walked in after her brother, "Hi uncle Lulu." She paused for a moment before charging her uncle and knocking him over.
Mara sat in bewilderment, watching two children tackle her apparent guide and guardian. He took it in good stride laughing with the two as they wrestled for a minute. It stopped when Luke held out a hand and the two floated away from the from him, giggling. Thane thrust his hands down and flipped through the air laughing excitedly.
"Who are they?" She asked after a second.
Luke grinned at her, "My niece and nephew. Come on Ana, Thane, say hello to Mara."
The two kids looked at Mara then back at Luke, "But she feels funny."
Luke blinked then smiled softly at the kids and twitched his hand at the kids, floating them to him, he lowered them slowly to the floor. He wrapped his arms over the kids shoulders and whispered, "She needs our help, remember what your grandfather used to say about the Emperor?"
The kids nodded, "She was with him for her whole life, stuck in the cold blizzard. We are trying to make her warm. Understand?"
The kids nodded again and turned to Mara, Thane slowly walking up to her. Tentative at first he approached Mara he looked her up and down before patting her on her knees, "It's warm here." Thane smiled at up at her before backing up to sit next to Luke. Anastasia sat on Lukes lap and stared at Mara, her presence reaching out to Mara. To Mara it felt like a supernova was brushing against her, she almost recoiled from there heat. Throwing up shields, she shied back physically.
"You okay?" Luke asked gently, "Try some of the tea, it's always surprisingly soothing."
Mara gave what could only be described as a wincing smile as she lifted the cup in front of her, slowly she took a tiny sip of the spicy smelling tea. The moment she did her mouth was filled with the overly strong tea Luke had accidentally created. Forcing the liquid down her throw Mara placed the cup down, she also felt a deep warmth in her stomach.
Luke took as sip of his own tea, made a face and put the cup down, "Er, sorry about that. I'm still learning to brew that right."
Thane took Lukes cup and took a deep smell, "It's smells like mommy."
Anastasia reached out and took the cup from Thane to little protest, she took also smelled the tea, "It does." She took a sip of the tea, "It tastes like Daddy's tea."
Luke blinked, "Alex makes tea like that?"
The two children nodded, "Mommy likes it that way."
Luke snorted to himself, "What about your dad?"
The children looked at each other before shaking their heads. Anastasia answered, "We don't know what Daddy likes."
"Oh." There was an awkward silence for a minute.
The silence was broken when the children decided sitting quietly in silence was very boring and proceeded to run out, deciding they should go find Leia instead. Mara watched as the children ran out, for a moment Luke watched her, "Would you prefer to spar then just sit here?"
Mara blinked and stood up quickly, "Please, anything but sitting quietly."
Luke snorted and tried to play it off as a cough, but failed rather spectacularly.
"What?" She snapped at him.
"You sound like my brother, he can't ever stand still." Luke said grinning, "Come on, I'll show you to the sparring grounds." Luke stood up a little too fast and knocked over his still mostly full cup of tea. He grimaced for a second, "Obi-Wan is gonna kill me." Luke took a step back and held out his hands and closed his eyes, slowly the liquid on the table lifted flowing off the table and into the cup that had righted itself. Mara watched curiously at the display of control, Luke didn't exactly make it look easy as there was an obvious strain in his face. The moment the last of the liquid dropped into the cup Luke waved at Mara to make sure he had her attention, "Come on, this way."
Luke lead Mara to the training grounds just outside the small town, it was mostly just an area with a small hut and a circle of stones in some sand. Luke walked to the hut and pulled out a pair of roughly sword shaped sticks. Luke did a few test swings with both before handing one to Mara, "I know you're used to an actual 'saber, but I think this is a bit safer for now."
Mara took the stick and did her own test swings, "It'll do, Hermit."
Luke made a face at the name, "Why Hermit?"
Mara just gave him a smirk and settled into a combat stance with Luke doing the same, Luke held his blade in front of him in a extremely basic stance. In opposition she took up a far more aggressive stance lifting her blade above her head, there was pause for a moment. Silence as they regarded each other before she struck with a lighting fast strike that Luke deftly deflected as he stepped aside. Mara growled and swiped up from her position below him, and again Luke calmly deflected her assault.
"Who trained you? Cause they can't be particularly good if that's how you fight." Luke said earnestly, not quite realising how insulting he was coming across as.
Mara huffed, before straightening up into a Makashi stance with her blade held in a duellists salute, "I was trained by the best duellist in the Inquisitorius."
Luke grinned back at her, "Then prove it."
With an almost feral glee Mara lunged forwards stabbing at Luke's chest, a strike which Luke deflected, however unlike the over powered strikes she had been throwing before she was able to redirect the strike, forcing Luke to block. Luke pushed her off before launching his own barrage of attacks, forcing Mara onto the defensive. Which he quickly discovered was her weakness as he quickly broke through, stopping his stick mere centimetres from her head. Luke stopped and stepped back, "You need to work on your defensive techniques."
Mara growled and attacked again, unleashing a torrential assault on Luke pushing him back. To whit he fell back into the defensive forms of Form three, stone walling her assault and backtracking. He gently lead her on a merry chase in circles around the training area, allowing her to tire herself out. Finally she stopped, dropping her hands to her side panting. Luke looked far less tired, still tired but far less out of breath. Smiling he asked, "So, how about that tea now then?"
Mara dropped the stick and mutely nodded, before either of them could move someone spoke, "You've got talent girl."
They turned to find Revan leaning against the hut, he appeared to have discarded the heavy cloak and robes he preferred and was wearing only simple Jedi Robes, at his side hung an all together too familiar lightsaber to Luke, "But you need to allow yourself a clearer head to fight, especially if you are going to fight Force welders or Jedi."
Mara called the stick back to her hand in a sudden impulse and charged Revan, launching at him with a vicious stab at his head. Seemingly without effort he held up a hand and caught her in mid-air, "That's rude, not to mention stupid. You're going to try attacking your host with a stick, what was your plan after that?"
Luke sighed, "Let her go, we both know she can't do anything to you."
Revan shrugged and dropped her, "Fine, but it's on your head if something happens."
Mara took a deep breath and lunged at the lightsaber on Revan's belt, but before her fingers even brushed the weapon his hand shot out and grasped her arm, twisting it before pushing her away with her momentum. Revan regarded her for a moment, "Luke, please take our guest back to her quarters before she does something stupid."
Luke nodded and placed his hands on Mara's shoulders, "Come on, I think we need to get Barris to have a look at you."
Mara stared at him for a moment before they started walking and Luke could have sworn there was no-one behind the eyes for a moment. Then she shook her head and suddenly she was back, Revan watched her carefully. There was definitely something wrong with the girl, but he couldn't tell for sure what it was. On top of that was her annoying familiarity, she felt like someone he felt he should know, or had seen before. Shaking his head he forced himself to release those unhelpful thoughts, his hand drifted to the lightsaber at his belt. He slowly unclipped it and held it contemplating it's weight for a moment, before slowly starting to run through several form five kata's without activating the blade. Slowly moving from one form to the the next with slow deliberation. He continued to work his way through the kata's for an hour, until Obi-Wan appeared at the hut.
"I see you still won't actually ignite your blade." Obi-Wan said dryly.
"What would be the point, I have no intention of going back into battle any time soon."
"I know, I don't blame you. But Luke and Leia are going to become restless before long, and if they are anything like their mother they will lead an uprising against the Empire. Without you if they have to." Obi-Wan slowly sat down, crossing his legs wincing slightly in discomfort at the mechanical leg pressing against his organic one.
Revan stopped and turned to him, returning his lightsaber to his belt, "I bluster in front of the troops, but I don't actually want to go back into another war."
"So you keep lying to everyone about getting ready to mobilise, even helping some of the small cells." Obi-Wan pointed out, "You even send out missions to retrieve Jedi. You already are rebelling."
Sighing Revan held out a hand, calling his lightsaber to his hand. Slowly start flipping the weapon in his hand, "I know, but I can't just leave them."
"You never could." Obi-Wan said softly.
Across the settlement Mara stared at her hands, that compulsion to attack hadn't come from her, at least she didn't think it did. It had felt like something in her mind was forcing her to act with little to no input herself, it had felt like someone else was driving and all she could do was watch as she assaulted Revan and was soundly beaten without doing a thing to the older Force wielder. Behind her Luke sounded like he was muttering to himself, something about listening to Leia next time she told him not to do something. This wasn't the same as when the Emperor made her do something, this felt like something inside her took over and forced her to attack.
They were met outside the med centre by Barris, who took one look at Mara and dragged her inside and barred Luke from coming with. He stood outside for a second, contemplating entering anyway. With a shrug he elected to return to the training grounds, he did have his own training to return to and Leia wouldn't let it go if he missed a single training session. Last time he had Leia had mocked him mercilessly for almost a year, only dropping it when he beat her in a speeder race around the Island.
When he reached the training ground he found Obi-Wan and Revan, both sitting in silent meditation. Revan's lightsaber orbited him lazily, spinning through the air, "Back for some training?"
"Yes."
Revan rose, snatching his lightsaber out of the air as it passed him, "As of today I'm taking an active role in your training."
Luke blinked, "I thought Obi-Wan was my teacher."
Obi-Wan looked up, "Oh I am, but he's still the better combat teacher. You need the to learn more, shall we say," He paused for a second, "Aggressive techniques."
"Aggression isn't the Jedi way, isn't that what you taught us?"
Obi-Wan smiled sadly, "And it is, when there is peace. Unfortunately we live in a time that needs you to be something other than the ideal Jedi."
Luke nodded and looked to Revan who had taken a few steps to stand in the centre of the training ring, he held up his lightsaber and beckoned Luke over. pulling the lightsaber from his belt Luke walked over to stand across from the rebel leader. Revan held his blade up to his face in a duelist's salute and ignited his blade. The blue blade illuminating his mask, Luke mirrored his action with his green blade blazing to life instantly.
"Attack me, if you manage to get past my guard then the exercise will end."
Luke took his ready stance without a word, pushing forwards and testing Revan's reactions. His opening jab was battered aside, Revan grabbing his arm and throwing him to forwards. "Come on you can do better, actually attack me."
Luke stumbled to a stop, turned around and charged again. This time dropping his pointless testing and attacking Revan in earnest. He unleashed his best flurry of attacks, all of which were repelled with an annoying amount of ease. As he grew more frustrated the sloppier his attacks became, gaining more ferocious power but loosing speed.
While he may have been frustrating Luke everyone in the vicinity could feel the glee coming from Revan at the action. He was definitely enjoying himself far too much, his blue blade flashing as it clashed with Luke's. Even if his blade work was getting sloppier and he was itching to counter and force the kid onto his back foot he restrained himself, until Luke was too sloppy to allow hi to get away with the assault anymore. Without warning he caught Luke in a blade look for a moment, pushing down on for a moment, the suddenly releasing. Almost laughing when Luke overextended at the sudden release of pressure, in a single smooth motion he swept his legs out from under him and had his blue blade at his throat in an instant.
There was silence for a moment broken eventually by Obi-Wan, "I see you don't run through any offensive kata's then Luke."
Luke blushed deep red, "Sorry, I never thought I'd need them."
The blue blade pointed at him vanished and Revan held out a hand to him and helped him up, "In that case you are going to run through a few kata's I have in mind two hundred times."
Luke groaned, "Come on, what about Leia? She needs to work on her defensive forms!"
"Your sister is going through her own training, which I shall be overseeing in the absence of Ahsoka." Obi-Wan replied, raising an eyebrow at the whining coming from Luke.
Luke sighed, "Where is she? I haven't seen her in a while."
"I suspect she's on her way now." Obi-Wan said standing, "I think it may be beneficial to run you both through your drills."
"I agree." Revan affirmed, turning to watch the path leading up the training area. Minutes later Leia appeared, slowly making her way up to the arena. Luke smiled, she felt so much lighter than she had in days.
"Rest did you some good I see." Luke said gleefully.
"Among other things." Leia replied with a grin.
"Well, now that you are both here we can begin the training in earnest." Revan intoned, a smile entranced in his voice.
Sooo, It's been a while. Sorry about that. Had a bit of a writers block paired with other personal life stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to start updating more regularly now.
