Thank you so much Angels-heart1, Leann Nickerson, carmengmtr and Blondie 20000 for your feedback! Oh man Blondie...you are so good. I did look up Eileen on Supernatural Wiki but I must have missed where they mentioned she killed the banshee who killed her parents *bashful grin*.

Okay so the last two chapters were so episode heavy I needed to switch it up some. So Chapter 31 and 32 does follow the timeline of The Heroes' Journey but not the actually actions of the episode so much. I decided to tie up some loose ends for Jo and give Jo a little bit of a storyline so that I can bring in another character. I split this up in two chapters because it was too long.

I'm also thinking I will use The Gambler episode to flesh out Jo's storyline. We'll still have some Dean and Sam but I won't follow the action 'off camera'.

A few author notes at the end.

Thank you again everyone and enjoy! Val

Chapter 31

Jo smiled as Jody walked into the restaurant, "hey." She said as she stood up and hugged the older woman.

"Hey yourself," Jody said as she returned the hug before turning to look at down at Ami who was currently strapped into her car seat that as sitting nestled on top of one of the wooden highchairs the restaurant had and cooed to the child, "how's my big girl?"

"Big is right," Jo said as she sat down. "Took her for her checkup yesterday and she's in the top percentile for her age group. Seems she takes after her Daddy and Uncle Sammy."

"Let's hope she doesn't as tall as her Uncle Sammy," Jody said with a chuckle.

"Well if she is she could probably play from the WNBA," Jo quipped as she sat back down.

"Poor Dean wouldn't be able to take it if his daughter was taller than him," Jody laughed.

"So not that I'm not happy to see you but what brings you this way?" Jo asked as she reached into the diaper bag and pulled out a pre-made bottle out of the insulated pocket.

"Was helping Claire with a hunt a couple of hours away and thought I would call so we could go to lunch…be ladies of leisure."

"Remind me of being a lady of leisure when I'm changing her stinky diaper later," Jo said with a laugh.

"You love it," Jody teased knowing how much the younger woman was completely in love with the child next to her.

"I do," Jo admitted as the waitress joined them to take their order. Once they ordered Jo unstrapped Ami to feed her while they talked. "So how's Gabriel?" She asked with a knowing grin.

Jody rolled her eyes, "shut up."

The younger woman snickered at her friend, "so have you introduce him to the girls…are they excited about their new Daddy?"

"Very funny," Jody said as took a sip of the wine the waitress just served her. She watched as the waitress placed Jo's iced tea down and headed back towards the kitchen. "Jo we need to talk about something."

Jo looked at the other woman and swallowed when she saw how serious she was. "What's wrong?"

"Gabriel restored my memories," she explained as she took a sip of her wine.

Jo's eye widened, "oh my goodness, Jody I'm so sorry. I can't believe I forget that Gabriel had altered your memories too."

"It's okay," the sheriff reassured her.

"It's not okay, you've been an amazing friend and if anyone should understand how you feel it's me."

"Really Jo, it's fine but now that I have them back there are things you need to know about while you were in the private nursing home."

"I know you handle paying my medical bills," Jo said as she turned slightly so that she could feed Ami her bottle.

"I did but Bobby left specific instructions before he died."

"Okay…I guess that makes sense."

"Look Jo he never told me who you were. Just that both your parents were hunters and were killed. That you were injured during their last hunt and you were in a private nursing home."

Jo smiled sadly, "he was probably afraid you would tell Dean and Sam where I was and since they were fighting the Leviathans they needed to keep their head in the game and well I was pretty much useless back then and would have been nothing but a burden."

"Yeah they were some ugly bastards," Jody agreed before she continued. "There was somebody he did confide in though. Has Dean mentioned a man named Frank Devereaux?"

"The guy who got them off the grid back then? The one Dick Roman's men killed him?""

"That's the one. He was an interesting character," Jody explained as she reached into her bag and pulled out a larger brown envelope. "Seems Bobby trusted him quite a bit, he had Frank set up a whole new life for you."

"What?" Jo said as looked down at the envelope.

"It's all in there. All I can say is he buried the money trail so deep you will never need to worry."

"Money?" Repeated in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

Jody started to speak but paused when the waitress came over to drop off their meals. She waited until the woman stepped away before she turned her attention back to Jo. "I don't know the whole story, there's a letter in there from Bobby for you but from what I understand there was some money from property your Mom sold and an insurance policy that he was able to put in a claim on your behalf. That's how he paid the first few months at the private nursing home he moved you too."

"Insurance…it must have been my Mom's. I saw her giving Bobby a file the night before we went to Carthage." Jo said sadly. "But there can't possibly be anything left…it must be gone by now."

Jody gave her a small smile, "your right, that money would have only covered you for about eight months."

"Eight months…I was there eight years. I don't understand," Jo said, mentally berating herself for never even thinking about any of this after she had found out the truth.

"Frank was helping Bobby; he generated a death certificate for your Mom to file a claim for her life insurance policy and he transfer the money your Mom had in a couple of bank accounts into a new account he had set up for you. When Bobby was killed, Frank decided to make Dick Roman pay…literally pay."

"What do you mean?"

Jody couldn't help smiling as she remembered meeting the eccentric man the one and only time he had set up the meet to give her everything in the envelope sitting on the table. "He said that one good thing could come out of fighting Dick Roman…he electronically stole five million dollars that he placed in an offshore account under your name…those where the funds that paid for your care the past eight years."

Jo's mouth dropped opened, "five million dollars. I have five million dollars?"

"More like $600,000.00, the medical bills ate away at the rest of it but there's also the other account Bobby had set up for you with the insurance money too."

Jo swallowed as she took in everything Jody was telling her. "I…I don't know what to say…to think. Of everything I could imagine you would tell me today this never crossed my mind."

"I know it's a lot to digest but take some time to go through everything. Read Bobby's letter. Watch the VHS tape Frank left…I guess he figured the boys would still have a VCR I guess." She said with a chuckle.

"Jo, I can see it in your eyes. You think you're undeserving of this but don't make any rash decision. Read everything in here, talk to Dean. You have this little girl to think of and having a nest egg isn't a bad thing." Jody told her as she reached over and squeezed Jo's hand.

The younger woman nodded her head, "I know…I will." She swore as she gave her a weak smile. "Hey we're supposed to be ladies of leisure. I say we finish our lunch and there's a nail salon down the street. I vote we go and pamper ourselves and get manis – pedis."

"Sounds good to me, that hunt I just finished with Claire we had to hike over fifteen miles in the rain on a muddy mountain trail."

"Oh I can't wait to hear this story," Jo said as the women sat back and enjoyed the rest of their lunch.

Dean and Sam sat in their recliners in the family room staring at Jo in shock. "Say something," Jo urged uncomfortable at the way the brothers were staring at her.

"This is crazy," Sam finally said as Dean nodded his head mutely.

"Maybe we should read the letter Bobby left," Jo suggested.

Dean lifted the envelopes on the coffee table and passed it to Jo. He notice it seemed a little heavy but he figured Bobby had a lot to say to her. "Jo," Dean said as Jo looked down at the envelope in her hand.

"I'm getting tired of reading letters from people I love," Jo murmured as she opened Bobby's letter.

"I know," Dean murmured as he got up when he heard Ami fussing in her pack and play. "Hey Sweetpea, need your diaper changed do you," he cooed as he lifted the child and got a whiff of her full diaper.

No sooner did Dean pick the child up did she let out an ear piercing cry. "Whoa, what's wrong Baby Girl?" Dean said as he bounced her to try and calm her down as he grabbed the diaper bag and quickly laid her down on the changing table they had set up in there.

Jo and Sam watched as Ami continued to cry even after Dean finished changing her and picked her up. "I never heard her cry like that," Jo said as she reached up and felt the baby's forehead. The simple touch seem to calm the little girl and she stopped crying and gave her mother a gummy grin.

"That's Daddy's girl," Dean said as Ami turned at the sound of his voice. When Dean smiled at his little girl he was shocked when the infant's face scrunched up and she began crying again.

"What the….," Dean murmured as he rocked and bounced the baby. Jo watched as Sam got up and went over to his brother and niece and frowned when Ami cries increased tenfold.

"Come on Ami…calm down little one," Dean urged.

"Here, let me try," Jo urged as she reached out to take Ami into her arms.

"Good luck," Dean said he passed the screaming child to her mother.

"Hey sweet girl," Jo whispered as she settled Ami against her shoulder as she made shhhing sounds.

Dean watched as Jo comforted their daughter and was getting ready to suggest that she might be teething and that was why she was crying like she was but just like a few moments earlier Ami settled down immediately in Jo's arms and tears were quickly replaced with happy giggles.

"What the…?" Dean mumbled at the complete turn around and slowly reached up to run his hand along his daughter's head but stopped when she turned slightly and saw Dean smiling at her. It was like a light switch being flipped, one second she was content in in her mother's arms and one look at Dean and Ami's face was scrunching up again to begin bawling.

Dean backed up so that he was out of the infants line of sight. He nodded his head towards Sam before looking at Ami pointedly. The younger brother went over to his niece and the second she saw her uncle she had the same reaction and Dean reached out and pulled Sam back.

"Jo, Sam and I are going to step outside. Let us know when Ami is settled and then we'll come back in.

Jo watched as both men left the room as she began to sing The Beatles 'Blackbird' and soon the little girl was asleep and she was able to tuck her into the pack and play until her and Dean went to bed.

"That was weird," Jo said as the men joined her again. "She usually wants her Daddy."

"She gave Sam the same stink eye…she must be pissed at us about something."

Jo laughed, "Dean she's bare five months old…I don't think she's holding grudges against people yet."

"I don't know…she's a genius. She figured out rolling over at three months and when I ask her where her toes are she begins kicking her feet." He bragged.

"Oh I didn't realize we were dealing with a genius," Jo teased.

"Damn straight she is," Dean said with a grin before looking down at the envelope Jo had put down when she went and took care of Ami. "I know you don't want to but we need to do this." He said gently.

Jo sighed as she lifted the envelope and opened it as they all sat down. She was surprised to see a second envelope with her name on it in her mother's handwriting. "Oh God," Jo murmured as she felt tears on her cheeks. "I can't," she said as she looked over at Dean.

He nodded his head in understanding as he took the letter she held out before clutching the message from her Mom close to her chest. Dean opened the folded note paper and swallowed as his own emotions got the best of him. Seeing the handwriting of the man who was more of a father to him and Sam than their own Dad was never easy.

Hey Kid, I guess if you're reading this then I didn't make it against those ugly bastards Leviathans. I'm sorry I had to leave you in that nursing home but it was all I could do to help you at that time.

These monsters ain't like anything we ever dealt with and I know this is gonna piss you off but you're in no shape to defend yourself and bringing you here with us was too dangerous for all of us.

But you're reading this so that means that the boys beat them and finally cracked open that box of Havana's cigars and found the letter I left them so they could bring you home…"

Dean's hand shook as he realized what Bobby was talking about. He remembered the night they were in Rufus cabin like it was yesterday.

"Hey Bobby, what's that?" Sam asked as the older hunter came out from the bedroom.

The man had taken off for a week after he had sent them to Frank for their new identities. Bobby had finally came back that morning and had holed himself in the bedroom for the past hour before coming out with the cigar box.

Bobby walked over to the fireplace mantle and placed the cigar box down. "These are the last three Cuban cigars that old coot Rufus had stashed away. When we end this we come back here and smoke these in honor of that old fool."

Dean held up his beer bottle towards Bobby and Sam, "he was great hunter and even better friend."

Sam and Bobby raised their beers in salute to their fallen comrade. "I want you two to promise that whoever is left after this that no matter what you will honor Rufus and smoke these cigars." Bobby said suddenly more serious than the moment called for.

"Yes Sir," Dean and Sam answer immediately.

Dean was pulled out of his memory when he heard Sam suck in a deep breath. He looked up at his brother and saw the look of horror in his eyes and didn't need a mirror to know he had the same look in his eyes.

"What is Bobby talking about…what letter?" Jo asked.

Dean cleared his throat as Sam turned and left the room, shocking Jo at his strange behavior. "Remember when I told you about Purgatory and when I came back…that Sam and I were in a bad place."

Jo nodded her head, "yeah."

"Well we met up at Rufus cabin but I was so angry at Sam that we never honored Bobby's request that we smoke the cigars that he had told us to after we defeated the Leviathans."

"The cigars in a cigar box that he left a letter for you both in it," Jo reasoned.

"This letter," Sam said as he came back into the room carrying the box and letter.

"Guess he covered his bases," Dean said as he looked at his brother, "better late than never I guess. Go ahead and read it," he encouraged the younger man.

"Right," Sam said as he opened the flap and pulled out the letter that was intended for them in what seemed like a lifetime ago. Clearing his throat he began to read Bobby's letter to them.

"Okay so I guess I didn't make it since you idjets are reading this letter. First thing first…you better smoke those damn Cubans or Rufus is gonna haunt your sorry asses.

Got that out of the way so now the real reason for this damn letter. Dean you weren't imagining it when you said you could feel Jo's touch before she disappeared when she was sent to kill you.

I did some deeper research and found out she was linked to that Osiris bastard when Sammy ran him through and I don't know how but she'd back and was dropped in the debris of the hardware store her and her Mama died in.

She was found and ended up in a state run mental hospital. That's where I went after you two took care of those dicks that we're killing people wearing your faces.

I had every intention to bring her home but oh Hell she's a shell of the woman and hunter she grew to be and she ain't capable to protect herself against these Leviathans. So I did what I had to do to keep her safe. I owed it to her…to Ellen.

Frank owed me for more than one favor and I called in my other markers. He issued the forged documents I needed to be named her guardian as well as everything needed so that I could file the claim on behalf of Jo for her mother's life insurance.

He set up a trust for Jo and moved the money Ellen had from the insurance on the roadhouse and the sale of the property. That way when the claim on her life insurance comes through it'll go into that account.

I couldn't leave her in that shithole state nut house and I had her moved to a private nursing home using this money. Should be enough to keep her there for about six months or so.

Now that things are clear I expect you both to go and get her. She should be with family and being with you both will help her in ways no doctors can.

Okay Dean listen up because I ain't no damn match maker and I'm only gonna say this once. Pull your head out of yer ass you damn fool and tell that woman how you feel.

You're not gonna find yourself a better woman and I can promise you she's the only woman that'll ever understand you and that brother of yours relationship. Second chances like this don't happen all the time…even for us so grab on and don't let go.

All the information and paperwork for you two idjets to go get Jo is taped to the bottom of the coffee table. Tell Jo I'm sorry I had to leave her in that home. I hope she understands.

See you on the other side, Bobby."

Sam put the letter down as Dean closed his eyes and sighed. He had been so angry when they met up again at Rufus's that he forgot about the promise to Bobby. He looked up when Sam walked out of the room. Dean went to stand up to follow his brother but stopped when Jo put her hand on his arm. "Let me go," she urged.

"Okay," Dean realizing maybe Sam needed to talk to Jo this time instead of him.

SPNSPNSPN

Jo stood in front of Sam's bedroom door and listened as the younger Winchester brother slamming draws and frowned when she heard him yelped in pain.

"Sammy," Jo said as she knocked on the door before opening it to go inside. She saw him standing by his chest of drawers, cradling his hand to his chest while hopping up and down on one foot. "What happened?"

Sam looked over at Jo, "I stubbed my toe and fell forward and slammed the draw on my hand."

"Here sit down," Jo encouraged as she guided him towards his bed before going over to the sink in his room to wet a towel and tend to his hand.

"Jo," Sam said as she gently lifted his hand and began dabbing it with cool wet cloth.

"Don't," she said. "Sam everything worked out the way it was meant to work out."

"You spent years alone because I was selfish…the same way Kevin was alone that whole year. When Dean came back…there was so much anger we never thought about Bobby's request."

Jo took a deep breath, "Sam you need to let it go. You and Dean both need to let go of the past. We're together now…we're a family."

"But you lost so much time. If I just went back to the cabin, had opened the box read that letter…"

Jo chewed on her lower lip as she shot a look towards the door. "Sam do you know the first thing that went through my mind when you read that letter…that I was glad you never read it."

Sam gaped at Jo's confession, "what…why would you say that."

"Because if you came to get me and if we were together…mourning Dean together. You and I both know we would have found comfort in each other and then when Dean came back from Purgatory that it would have drove a wedge between all of us. A wedge that we might not have ever been able to come back from."

Sam swallowed as he realized she was right. Even though he always knew Dean had a thing for Jo back when they first met the Harvelles he was also attracted to the blonde huntress. Something he tried to keep buried deep down because of Dean but hearing Jo saying it out loud he knew that is exactly what would have happened.

Looking up he gazed in Jo's eyes as he licked his suddenly dry lips. "Jo," he whispered.

"So as far as I'm concerned…you not reading that letter back then was a good thing because the best thing that ever happened to me…to all of us would never had happened."

"Ami," he said with a smile.

Jo grinned, "Ami."

"But still if I had at least kept hunting …had looked for Dean…we would have opened the box and saw Bobby's letters when he came back." He argued.

"And do you think Dean was really ready pull his head out of his ass as Bobby so eloquently put it?" Jo asked knowing Dean was nowhere near ready back then from everything he had told her and who was she kidding, she wouldn't have given in either…they were both too stubborn.

No Michael may have manipulated them but the more time she had to think about it the more she knew that her and Dean needed to go through everything they've been through so that they were both ready for the life and family they were building together. Now was finally the right place and right time for her and Dean.

Sam snorted with a laugh as he said, "probably not."

Jo finish dabbing Sam's knuckles. "So let's head back and finish reading Bobby's letter."

SPNSPNSPN

"But you're reading this so that means that the boys beat them and finally cracked open that box of Havana's cigars and found the letter I left them so they could bring you home…"

Dean said as he picked up where he left off.

"…and help you get your life back. Jo I know this ain't gonna be easy for you but if one good thing can come out of our crap filled lives you getting this second chance is it.

Now I told Dean to get his head out of his ass and I'm gonna give you the same advice. Probable won't do any good…you're both too damn bull headed but even I can see you two are crazy for one another.

Don't waste this chance you two have together because trust me you ain't gonna find anyone else that will put up with either of you. So you three figure your shit out and move on with your lives.

Jo, you read that letter from your Mama. I don't know why I kept those letter you each wrote to the other the night before you went to Carthage but I'm glad I kept them and Ellen's paperwork she gave me to hold onto for you.

Whatever money is left you do something with it other than buying ammo. Build a life for yourself outside of hunting. That goes for those two idjets with you too. Hell maybe you and Dean could make a couple of babies. That fool is a born Daddy…years of practice raising the other one I suppose.

I better not see any of you gain until y'all are old and gray, Bobby."

"Guess my head was up my ass back then too," Jo quipped as Dean put the letter down.

Dean laughed as he picked up the VHS tape, "you want to do the honors Sammy?" he said as he tossed the tape to his brother to put in the VCR.

Jo and Dean winced when instead of catching the tape his brother tossed to him, it hit him on the top of his head. "Oww," the younger brother cried as he rubbed his head. If that wasn't bad enough, they grimaced when he bent over to pick up the tape from the floor and seemed to trip over his own two feet and face planted on the ground in front of the television.

"Sam, why don't you sit down," Jo suggested as she got up and picked up the tape. The younger brother was definitely having one of those days. Jo quickly placed the tape in the machine as Dean hit the buttons on the remote to access the machine.

Soon the screen was filled with stocking man with salt and pepper hair and glasses.

"Listen up Cupcakes. I knew helping you two wasn't going to end well and I was right. Friggin Bobby Singer and his markers.

Right…so Singer's gone thanks to Dick but before he took a bullet in his brain pan he had me working on the paperwork for young Ms. Harvelle that he stashed away."

Frank paused as he leaned closer to the camera, "Oh yeah Sweetcheeks I know who you are and I know all about how much the Harvelles have lost thanks to the Winchesters and yet if you're watching this then that must mean you're a glutton for punishment and hitched your wagon to them again.

Did you know it was Singer who convinced your Daddy to work with their old man? So many secrets…so little time." He gloated before continuing.

"That's right Sweetcheeks, I knew your father and I'm not doing this for Singer, I'm doing it for Bill. See Bobby thought he knew everything but he didn't. He never know who the hunter was who killed the ghoul that murdered my wife and kids…that the hunter was Bill Harvelle.

So you see I owed your father and I can't think of a better way to pay him back than to set up his little girl with an offshore account with Dick Roman's money. Well I've settled all my markers and your life now rest with this Sheriff Mills and Tweedledee and Tweedledum…good luck with that."

Suddenly the screen went black and the tape automatically popped out of the machine. Sam looked at over at a clearly shocked Dean and Jo. "Okay…umm…did you know that Bobby was the one who introduced Dad to Jo's father?"

"No. He never told me that and well Dad never told either of us about Harvelle's or Bill either." Dean said.

Jo looked over at the brothers, still stunned at what they just found out but a story quickly came into her mind. "Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin …Caleb once told me about one of my father's hunts there where he took out a ghoul on his own who had killed a young mother and her two children. That had to be his family," she reasoned.

"Sounds like it," Dean agreed.

"It's weird right?" Jo asked.

"Not really," Sam said. "I never mentioned it before but after we found out about that hunt…the one with our Dad. I did some research on your father. Jo your Dad was legendary, his list of hunts was pretty damn impressive."

Jo smiled sadly as she nodded her head, "yeah he was."

Dean looked down at Jo and saw the way her eyes flickered to the letter from her Mom, "maybe we should call it a night. Regroup tomorrow to go through the paperwork." He suggested.

Sam saw the way Dean had reached out to rub the back of Jo's neck and could see the concern in his brother's eyes. "Yeah, I think I could do with a good night sleep." The younger brother said as he got up and walked over to where his niece slept and lean down to give her a kiss goodnight. His head shot up when Ami's eyes opened, took one look at her uncle and began wailing.

"What the…" Dean said as he hurried over to his daughter. "Come here Sweetpea," Dean cooed as he lifted the hysterical child up. No sooner had he picked Ami up than the infant mouth opened and everything the baby had eaten earlier wound up down Dean's front including the strained peas Jo had fed her at dinner.

"Oh Ami," Jo cried softly as she gently took the baby from Dean. "I'm going to get her cleaned up and tuck her in for the night." She told the brothers before heading out of the room.

Sam wrinkled his nose at the stench as Dean just stared down at the mess. "I don't think I've ever seen her throw up on you. Usually it's me and Jo but never you. Jo joked that you paid Ami not to do it on you."

"Yeah well I need to renegotiate the terms of our deal," Dean said as he looked down at himself, "and this is one of my favorite shirts. Sammy you don't mind…" he gestured towards the floor. "I need to soak this and clean myself up."

Sam watched Dean leave before sighing and going over to the cabinet to get the cleaning materials to clean up the mess. He groaned when he hit his head on the door of the cabinet…wondering for the 100th time today why he was so clumsy.

A/N: Okay so the practically gal inside of me needed to explain how Jo stayed in a private nursing home all that time...where did the money come from. So I decided to bring Frank into the story and why not have him steal the money from Dick. Of course I couldn't see him doing it so much for Bobby so I thought wouldn't it be interesting if Bill Harvelle was the hunter who handled the case when Frank's family was killed.

Also I check but I couldn't find what killed his family so I went with ghoul. If anyone knows, just let me know and I'll update this.

A/N 2: I wasn't trying to imply that Jo and Sam are secretly in love here. I just could see if Sam found Jo, brought her back and if they were both were mourning Dean thinking he was truly dead then I could see them turning to each other for comfort. Might not be a great love affair but they do love each other...just not IN LOVE with each other.

A/N 3: I know it seems that poor Sam is getting the brunt of having his luck tampered with but trust me we see more of Dean's in Chapter 32. I'll probable post that tomorrow.
