Chapter 31: Cianwood and a Scary Gym leader
Ethan had gone along with a new Trainer he met named Finn to reach Cianwood City in order to find a miracle cure for Olivine Lighthouse's Ampharos. They spent three hours on Jet Ski to which they finally arrived.
"We're finally here at Cianwood! You can take your arms off me..." Finn said, as Ethan was holding him tightly, borderline on the verge of tears.
Ethan got up from the Jet Ski and fell to his knees. "Remind me, to never go on a Jet Ski again..."
"So how you going to get off this place?" Finn asked sarcastically.
"W-whatever!" Ethan said recollecting himself. Ethan took a moment to observe the city before him. Cianwood was an island town, with not too many houses but it definitely had a charm to it.
"I'll be at the Pokémon Center Ethan, meet me there when you're ready to call it a day." Finn told Ethan.
"See you then," Ethan said as Finn went.
"I've got to show my Pokémon this!" Ethan said, releasing his Pokémon from their Pokéballs.
"Bay!" Bayleef happily exclaimed.
"Flaaffy!" Flaaffy said baaing.
"Toge!" Togetic cried spinning around.
"Eevee!" Eevee barked about.
"Hera!" Heracross shouted, unable to take his eyes off Eevee.
"Pretty looking town right, now we just need to find this pharmacy and we can go." Ethan said, looking around for this pharmacy.
Ethan saw an older lady that must have been a local and realized he should ask.
"You five stay here and relax, I'll quickly find the medicine and then we'll be on our way." Ethan told his Pokémon.
"Hey, excuse me, I'm not from around here, can you tell me where this pharmacy I here of is?" Ethan asked approaching the woman.
The lady looked at Ethan scoffed. "Damn tourists, we have enough people in this town already." She said angrily as she walked past and ignored Ethan.
Bayleef ran over to Ethan's side and so did Eevee after hearing how the lady talked to him, Bayleef almost looked ready to attack, but Ethan stopped her.
"It's alright, we're here to stop trouble, not start trouble." Ethan told her.
"Bay!" Bayleef argued, still mad.
"It's okay Bayleef, I'll find it myself." Ethan told her.
"Ee, Eevee." Eevee said trying to make Ethan smile, jumping on Ethan's shoulder.
"I'm fine, it's okay. Anyways, I'll just find this pharmacy myself, you two can go stay with the others and go have fun while we're here." Ethan told them.
"Bay Bay!" Bayleef told Ethan, trying to tell him she always wants to walk by his side.
"Alright, what about you Eevee?" Ethan asked.
Eevee gave an uncomfortable smile and pointed to Heracross, who was giving her googly eyes, completely ignoring both Flaaffy and Togetic.
"Oh, I get it, alright then, you two will come with me." Ethan said.
Ethan looked around before finally finding the pharmacy just a few houses down from the Pokémon Center.
"I'm finally here!" Ethan said along with Bayleef and Eevee, entering the pharmacy.
"Hello, how may I help you?" The pharmacist asked Ethan with a smile.
"I'm kind of in a hurry right now, I'm in serious need of a Miracle cure, and I've heard stories of Cianwood having the best of the best." Ethan said.
"That is true, but our Miracle cure is in low quantity." The pharmacist said. "Although legend says the Miracle Cure was made from the tears of Lugia and the feather of Ho-Oh, it is produced from mineral water along with ingredients from rare berries which is then hit with Sweet Scent from Bellossom, please state what case you need it, and we'll see what we can do."
"Okay, the Ampharos of the Olivine Lighthouse is in critical condition, without the cure sailors may not be able to get to and back from Olivine, it's serious." Ethan pleaded.
"I see," The pharmacist said.
"So can I have it-" Ethan said, before finishing a man walked in, he wore jagged red pants with white colored ends, a black belt which hanged down, and gray bandages around his wrists. He was also quite muscular, enough to intimidate Ethan.
"I'll be taking that Miracle Cure." The man said, walking in and bumping into Ethan, knocking him and Eevee to the floor.
"Hey!" Ethan said, trying to raise his voice.
Bayleef went besides Ethan and tried to help him up, but Ethan got up on his own.
"Of course, Chuck, here, take the Miracle Cure as you wish." The pharmacist said, he grabbed the potion off the top shelf and handed it to the man.
Chuck took the potion and walked off, not paying Ethan any mind.
"Wh-what's the big idea!?" Ethan asked. "I was here first, he didn't even state why he needed it!?"
"That man was Chuck, you know who he is right?" The pharmacist said, he was sweating heavily after seeing Chuck having entered.
"No, but I mean..." Ethan began.
"Chuck is the Gym leader of Cianwood, whatever he wants, he gets, and if we refuse, then he'll get what he wants by force!" The pharmacist said. "Please understand the situation."
Ethan looked to Bayleef, and then to Eevee on his shoulder. They both gave him a look signifying he shouldn't quit.
Ethan ran outside the store and confronted Chuck, who was easily two times his size.
"Hey excuse me, Chuck!" He spoke.
People around were shocked to hear him speak to Chuck that way, some watching gasped for air in shock.
Chuck continued to walk past, ignoring Ethan, chugging an energy drink.
"Hey, Chuck!" Ethan said, raising his voice.
Chuck crumbled the energy on his forehead before throwing it at Ethan, it missed his face, but cut a big line on his cheek, causing him to bleed. The can hit the wall of the pharmacy, causing a dent.
The audience watching was petrified, one person in the audience even fainted.
"Bayleef!" Bayleef yelled angerly, she jumped in front of Ethan and swayed her leaf to strike Chuck down with Razor Leaf, but Ethan put his arm in front of her, trying to calm her down.
"It's okay, Bayleef, no need to get violent!" Ethan told her, making her stop, she instead gave Chuck a strong glare, to which he didn't care.
"What do you want, kid?" Chuck asked. "Why do you call my name and walk around here like you own the place?"
"That's ironic coming from you!" Ethan said, he then tried to calm down as arguing would get him nowhere.
"Look, I don't want any trouble between us, I just want you to please give me that Miracle Cure, I need it to save the Ampharos of the Olivine Lighthouse, if I don't get it, then the Ampharos may die!" Ethan pleaded. "And if that doesn't happen, then how will sailors go freely from or to Olivine at night?"
"Hmph, I don't care what happens to this Ampharos you speak of some random Pokémon's life does not hold a candle compared to my training. This Miracle Cure is known to boost not just health but endurance, I can use that, I can't even imagine throwing that away for some Pokémon I have neither heard of nor seen." Chuck said, he was about to remove the cork from the bottle.
"Wait, please!" Ethan said, holding his hand out. "Please have some sympathy, if you don't, then Olivine's Gym leader will be heartbroken."
"You mean Jasmine?" Chuck said, Ethan then realized he hadn't even known her name. "Jasmine is a weak fool and I detest her, that didn't help your case."
Chuck then once again placed his hand on the cork, angering Ethan.
"Hey, jackass! Instead of being a self-righteous prick and using the potion for your own entitlement, why don't we settle this fairly, and if I win, you owe me that battle, along with a badge!" Ethan yelled.
The people in the audience almost fell in shock of hearing Ethan's words.
"P-p-please Chuck, he is just a child, a very unintelligent child!" A man said, coming in from the side and dropping to his knees begging to Chuck. "Please do not hurt him, he doesn't know what he is saying."
"Move it!" Chuck said, shoving him out of the way with a heavy punch, knocking the man out. Chuck walked up to Ethan and got in his face.
"Bay Bay!" Bayleef said, warning him to back away.
Eevee jumped from Ethan's shoulder and formed a battle stance.
Chuck smiled. "Instead of killing you right here and now, I'll entertain you, like you asked, if you can defeat me, I will give you a badge, along with the Miracle Cure, but if you lose, you're dead, you understand me!"
Chuck gave Ethan a light double slap before walking out of there, he shoved a random man in his way as he made his way back to his gym.
"Nothing to see here folks!" Ethan spoke up to everyone watching. Everyone quickly looked away getting back to what they were doing.
Heracross, Flaaffy, and Togetic came back to Ethan. Heracross jumped up twice, showing he wanted to kick that guy's ass, making Ethan chuckle.
Bayleef with her leaf wiped the blood from Ethan's cheek, he smiled and put her hand on her head. "I'm alright everyone, now we need to prepare for how to fight this Chuck guy."
"E-excuse me sir, are you alright?" Ethan asked the man lying on the floor, the one who stepped in when it looked like Chuck may attack Ethan.
Ethan got on his knees besides the man as he awoke.
"Chuck really knocked the daylights out of me!" The man complained, rubbing the back of his head.
"I'm just glad you're alright sir." Ethan said. "Thank you for trying to help me by the way, you're the nicest person I've seen since I arrived here."
"Awe, thanks kid. I can't say I'd do it again; I knew Chuck was brutal, but I didn't think he'd hit me like that." The man said.
"Johnson," he said, raising his hand to shake Ethan's.
"Ethan," Ethan said shaking his hand.
"Look kid, I recommend you get out of here, it's been a long time since Chuck lost a battle, and whenever he wins, he always makes sure to *punish* his opponent." Johnson said, with a scarred look on his face.
"Can I ask how?" Ethan asked.
"Heheh, maybe somethings are better left to imagination, but let's just say you'll have to sign a contract before battling Chuck.
"It's that bad, huh," Ethan said.
"Yup, he's a monster, no respect for others, no honor, he only cares about training him and his Pokémon, as well as picking on the weak and defenseless." Johnson whispered, trying to make sure no one heard him.
"Yeah, I can see he's not the most charming of men, but I can't backdown now, I have people depending on me." Ethan said, turning to face his Pokémon.
"You don't get it kid; Chuck harasses regular Trainers whom he loses to, so imagine what'll he'll do to you, a guy who talked back to him." Johnson said.
"Why doesn't the Pokémon Champion do something then?" Ethan queried.
"This is Cianwood, we're quite far away from the mainland of Johto, that's why Chuck has so much power here, no one can step in and stop him." Chuck told Ethan.
Ethan got off his knees and stood up. "Well, when I become Pokémon Champion, I'll fire him, you can count on that Johnson!"
"I wish I could believe you kid." Johnson said, Ethan gave his arm to help him off the floor.
"You don't have to believe me, I'll prove it to you," Ethan said determined.
"Well, I can only wish you the best kid, I really hope you can win this battle, no matter what I'll be routing for you." Johnson said quietly looking around.
"And just so you know, Chuck specialized in fighting types, so try and use that to your advantage." Johnson said, waving Ethan goodbye.
"I get it, thank you for everything." Ethan said nodding.
Johnson smiled and walked off, Ethan then turned to his Pokémon.
"Alright guys, let's do this." Ethan said with confidence.
So I know it may sound a little weird but basically, I decided to make Chuck a complete prick unlike the chill guy he is in the games, thought it'd spice things up a little.
