Chapter 31

No One's POV

Kagero corps.

"I have a lot of work and you know I don't like parties, Miwa" Kai said in annoyance.

"Everybody knows that" Miwa rolled his eyes. "But we didn't do anything on your birthday! Everyone thought that there'll be a grand party or something since the big boss (Genryu) is here. Even the paparazzi and media were expecting something" he said.

"We all know what we do in these parties. I'd rather sleep in my room than attend one" Kai stated. "Don't you remember two years ago? My pictures went viral with every woman who I talked to. And they were even assuming who would be my girlfriend amongst them" he cringed, recalling the event.

"You got a point there… Besides, if Kai-sama is here, the guest list will be of many 'potential suitors' for Kai Toshiki" Miwa said in amusement and Kai shuddered at the thought.

"Correct. Now I'm glad I was away on my birthday" Kai looked relieved. "So the discussion ends here. We don't need to celebrate" he concluded.

"Then can't we just go to Leon's-…?"

"No"

"Eh? But you go every year!"

"I don't feel like going"

"And I know why"

"Before you say it, let me clarify… It's not about Tokura so cut it out" Kai stated and Miwa blinked in surprise. "I'll just skip this year" he added.

"Too bad. I was going to invite Nee-chan"

"…"

"Still not going?"

"…No"

Miwa smirked when he noted the reluctant pause from his boss. It was usual for Miwa to tease his boss that he was missing the lilac haired beauty and surprisingly his boss hadn't denied it. He could tell Kai wanted to meet her but his boss was being annoyingly stubborn.

"Come on! Then we can just go to Akari-san's café and-… Good afternoon, Kai-sama" Miwa paused when Genryu entered and greeted.

"Hn" Genryu grunted in response and stopped Miwa who was about to leave. "Stay, Miwa" he said, taking a spare seat.

"…" Kai and Miwa glanced at each other.

"Toshiki, I need you to clear all your meetings this week" Genryu said. "You were working on your birthday too so I was thinking of sending you on a break" he elaborated.

"…!" Kai and Miwa glanced at each other in surprise.

"But-…" Kai protested but Genryu put up his hand to stop him.

"Consider this a small vacation or… a present from me" Genryu surprised the young men. "You can take your friends with you. It's the least I can do for you. Or it won't be fun, right, Miwa?" he looked at Miwa.

"Aa… Yes. True" Miwa grinned.

"Here" Genryu handed Kai an invitation card. "That's your destination" he said and Kai looked at the card.

"That's… annual festival at Leon's Island" Kai gave a curt nod. "I see" he said.

"You go every year so I thought you like the place. I have already made arrangements" Genryu informed. "You decided to skip this year for me, I know… but I'm fine" he added with a smirk.

"…" Miwa glanced at Kai at that.

"I'll be taking over until you get back… For ten days" Genryu told Kai who was silent. "So then, you'll be leaving tomorrow" he added, as he stood up to leave.

"Tomorrow…? For ten days?" Kai raised his eyebrow.

"Any problem with my surprise gift?" Genryu asked and Kai smiled.

"Thank you, uncle"

"You're welcome" Genryu smiled back. "Miwa, stop by my office by 3" he told Miwa before leaving.

"Yes, sir" Miwa replied, slightly curious why Genryu called him.

"You can cheer now" Kai stated.

"Woah!" Miwa exclaimed. "That's some coolest present you got! Now you can't make excuses!" he grinned.

"Whatever" Kai shrugged.

"I'll go and inform others!" Miwa was out the room in a blink.

'Island festival, huh…'

The Next Day…

The Soryu Island

"Awesome!" Miwa and Ren exclaimed. "It's so good to be back!" the two cheered.

"Behave you two" Kai told them.

"Yes, Dad!" Miwa and Ren saluted while Asaka giggled.

The four had just arrived in front of Leon Soryu's inn and Kai was already annoyed. They stepped out of the car and Leon's people helped them with their luggage. Ren noticed Asaka struggling with her bags and went to help her while Kai and Miwa lent a hand to the men.

"Let me help you, A-chan" Ren smiled and Asaka blushed as usual.

"Thank you, Ren-sama…" Asaka smiled back.

Asaka noticed that something seemed different about Ren. She was very happy when Ren took care of her when she was sick and felt very grateful to him. But after that her boss seemed to be quite different. She had noted that he would give her a plain stare at work or sometimes he would seem to be thinking deeply. She thought she had done something wrong… Or maybe he was troubled with something…

'Wait! D-Did I confess to him in my drowsiness?' Asaka gulped. 'But I don't remember something like that' she thought.

"Welcome back, guys" Leon greeted as soon as he approached them, near the entrance.

"Hn. Thanks, Leon" Kai gave a curt nod.

"Hello, Leon/Leon-san!" Miwa and Asaka greeted Leon who sent them a curt nod.

"Hey! What's up, Leon? I want the same room like last time" Ren said.

"I see you made it too, Suzugamori" Leon sighed.

"I missed you too, Leon" Ren laughed and Leon rolled his eyes.

"Anyway, let's go in" Leon said and in they went.

Meanwhile…

Oracle corps.

'Was he really a thief…? It seemed like he was looking for something…' Misaki thought, frowning. 'I'm glad he couldn't take anything' she sighed.

Tokura Misaki was diligently working in her office. She was still perturbed that someone had break in her house despite security. Shin and Misaki both checked their house but they found that everything was intact except the disrupted study room and her own room. The thief didn't seem to take anything away, although he did seem to search through their bedrooms. Later, they had called the police and informed them about the security breach and then increased the security as well.

"Jinbei-san, there are some problems with the accounts… I think we need to check them from last year" Misaki told Jinbei who frowned.

"Is that so? Well, I'll look into it so don't worry" Jinbei assured.

"Thanks. If any problem occurs, we have to conduct a meeting regarding the matter" Misaki said.

"I don't think we should. Our employees might think that we suspect them of treachery" Jinbei said.

"Yes… but after what happened with Shigeo, I can't take any risks…" she pointed out.

"True… We'll find some other way then" Jinbei said and turned to leave. "I'll take my leave" he said and left abruptly.

"Jinbei-san-…" Misaki called but he was already gone.

'Is he angry…? Maybe in a hurry with something' she dismissed the thought and resumed her work.

Some Time later…

"But Misaki-chan! You're doing great! And you deserve some break" Shin said and Misaki sighed.

"I'm quite busy right now, uncle" Misaki stated. "Anything else, Ibuki-san?" she asked.

"Well… Shin-san is correct. You do deserve some break, Boss" Ibuki stated.

"Not you too" Misaki sighed out.

"But it's a family tradition! Started by your parents" Shin said and Misaki paused. "I have been going every year but you know I have to go on an important business trip out of the town. Can't you go this once?" he insisted.

Misaki knew her parents attended it every year when they were alive but she would go to summer camp with her schoolmates. It became a family ritual. After her parents, Shin continued the tradition and it was the time she took over.

"But no one knows me there and what will I do there alone anyway?" Misaki shook her head.

"I would love to go but I got work in your absence" Ibuki told them. 'And I sense no fishy business here… Why did Kai sent me here anyway? Maybe I need to investigate from a different angle and it would be easy if Misaki-san is away' he thought.

"Well… you can take Akari-chan with you. All you have to do is attend the island's festival. Can't you do that for your parents?" Shin said and Misaki gave in.

"This is a good opportunity to relax. And you can get your mind off of many things" Ibuki pointed out and Misaki's eyebrow rose.

"Fine"

"Great! Don't worry about company. We will handle it for few days" Shin pointed at Ibuki and himself.

'I hope this helps me in getting my mind off him…' Misaki thought and saw Jinbei coming in as her office door was open.

"Jinbei-san, Misaki-chan will be out for few days. She'll attend the island festival this time" Shin informed Jinbei who looked at Misaki.

"That's good" Jinbei said. "Is Ibuki-san accompanying you?" he enquired, looking at Ibuki.

"No. I'll be here carrying out my duty" Ibuki replied and Shin smiled.

"Is that so?" Jinbei stated with a frown which didn't go unnoticed by Ibuki.

"Is there any problem, (Jinbei) Hirato-san?" Ibuki asked and eyed Jinbei.

"Nothing. Shin-san, Yamato-san is waiting for you in the conference room" Jinbei told Shin who stood up hastily.

"Right. Let's go, Ibuki-san"

Once Shin and Ibuki were out, Jinbei took a seat and sighed. Misaki noticed his off-mood and put her file down.

"Is anything wrong, Jinbei-san…?" Misaki asked and Jinbei looked reluctant.

"I had this on my mind for a while… It's about Kagero" Jinbei said and Misaki raised her eyebrows. "Last time… when Kai-san visited us, the way he talked was quite perturbing" he expressed.

"He's like that, Jinbei-san. Don't worry"

"Yes. But still… I have told you before, right? That he's dangerous… to be friends with or to be enemies with. Besides, our conversation didn't go well and he's quite unpredictable…" Jinbei said and Misaki frowned.

"What did you talk about…?" she enquired, noticing the concern on Jinbei's face.

"It's… Nothing. Just keep in mind that I worry about you. It would be an insult if you doubt me as well"

"…" she blinked and "W-why would you say-…? Did Kai say that you-…?"

"No. He just assumed over a doubt…"

"Don't overthink, Jinbei-san… He must have mistaken you" she assured. "What matters is… I trust you" she smiled.

"Thank you… I'm glad to hear" he told her. "I just feel wary of him ever since. After all, he's a businessman… with a rash reputation. He has the power to crush anyone… and I've seen him do so in the past. Be careful" he added.

"I understand" she said with a smile.

"Oh and since you're going to the island festival… can you do me a favor?" he looked reluctant, she noted.

"Of course, Jinbei-san" she smiled.

"Touya is also attending and he wanted to meet you…"

"Touya-san…" Misaki's face fell and Jinbei sighed.

"He told me he wanted to apologize…"

That Evening…

Misaki sat uncomfortably on a comfy seat of a high class hotel as accompanying her was a person she least expected to meet… Genryu Kai. Shin had taken her car earlier and she decided to get a cab. Apparently, the older man was waiting for his car at the entrance of a hotel and spotted her. And she was very surprised when he greeted her and asked if he can 'borrow some of her time'. Questions ran in her head as she gulped some coffee he had ordered for her.

'Did he know that I meddled in Aichi-Kourin-Kai matter…? Or he thinks Kai lost his potential suitor because of me…?' Misaki was already dreading the worst possible 'punishments' from Genryu and she wanted to leave.

"How are you doing?" his question surprised her but she answered, trying to act normal.

"I'm doing well, Kai-sama" she replied and he gave a curt nod.

"You must be wondering why you're here" he said and she could see that he seemed amused. "Well… it's about you two" he stated and she averted her eyes.

"Umm… we… uh…" she didn't know what to say.

"Toshiki told me the truth"

"T-truth…?"

"Hn. About your forged relationship"

"Oh" she sighed. "I… apologize, Kai-sama. It was never my intention to offend you or… cause any inconvenience" she stared at her lap as if a child admitting to a mistake.

"I accept your apology" he told her and he could see she looked relieved. "I know Toshiki is the one who took advantage of your contract when he shouldn't have and… you had to be the part of his farce" he said and she raised her eyebrows.

"Yes" she crossed her arms and relaxed. "He did exactly that" she added with narrowed eyes.

"Hn. Although, I had taught him to be good to our guests… And I, too, had been an inconvenience to you when I didn't know the truth"

"I can understand… You care for him that's why" she smiled and Genryu could tell she seemed comfortable.

"He told me you two are no longer acquainted…" his words surprised her. "May I know the reason?" he was asking and she felt honored that 'The Genryu Kai' was asking and not ordering.

"Now that you know the truth and I don't have to act… I'll be honest, Kai-sama. He's very arrogant and I have told him that many times" she said.

"Is that so? That's… very honest" Genryu seemed amused.

"But still, I had helped him because he helped a stranger like me when I was really in need of help. For that, I will always be grateful to him" she admitted. "So I agreed to help him in order to repay his favor. Now that everything got back to normal, it was the time we part ways…" she explained.

Genryu noticed the disappointment crossing over her face. "Hmm. I'm surprised you didn't think of joining him. People usually ingratiate themselves with him"

"Flattery ain't my virtue, Kai-sama. I don't work well with arrogant people" she stated and corner of his lips slightly twitched upwards, almost smiling. 'W-what am I saying?! He might take it as offence and might target my company' she berated herself when Genryu stood up.

"It was nice talking to you, Tokura Misaki" Genryu said and she stood up as well. "But we need to cut this meeting short. Hope to see you soon" he said and it was time they leave.

Misaki just followed Genryu out. Once Genryu was out of sight, she exhaled in relief. She took a step then paused and blinked.

'Wait… Did he just say 'see you soon'…?'

Few Days later…

"Waaaaah…!" Akari exclaimed. "This place is heaven! So beautiful!" she said in excitement.

"Yeah" Misaki agreed and stretched her arms.

Misaki and Akari just arrived at the Soryu Island's port and they were already mesmerized with its beauty. They breathed in the fresh and salty air.

"Thank you so much, Misaki-chan!" Akari hugged Misaki. "For taking me here! I love you so much! I feel like this will be my best vacation!" she exclaimed, gleefully.

"Aa. I'm glad I came" Misaki smiled and glanced around "Well… we're supposed to-…"

"Tokura Misaki-san?" a voice called Misaki and the ladies turned back.

"Yes…?" Misaki replied with a nod.

"Welcome! I'm Soryu Leon. Glad to make your acquaintance" Leon smiled in greeting and Misaki looked surprised since Leon Soryu himself came to receive them.

"Oh! Likewise, Soryu-san" Misaki and Akari curtsied by bowing. "You didn't need to come-…" she said and paused when Leon grabbed one of their bags that was on the dock.

"It's alright, Tokura-san. You're my guests and I'm just being a good host" Leon said and shrugged.

Misaki was surprised. This was Soryu Island and he was The Leon Soryu… He literally owned the island and here he was, helping them with their bags…

"Thank you…" Misaki thanked and Leon gave a curt nod.

"You're welcome, Tokura-san and-…"

"I'm Yotsue Akari! Misaki-chan's best friend. So glad to meet you!" Akari smiled in greeting.

"Likewise, Yotsue-san. I hope you like it here" Leon said.

"Oh, I love this place already! It's wonderful! Thank you" Akari was very happy and Leon smiled. "Please call me, Akari" she told him.

"Good to hear it"

"Master Leon, I'll take them" a chauffeur came and grabbed other bags on the dock.

"Thanks, Mario-san" Leon thanked the chauffeur while Misaki and Akari followed their suit.

"He's such a gentleman!" Akari whispered to Misaki who sent a glare at her that told her to 'behave'.

As soon as they got off the car, Misaki and Akari stared at the inn in front of them. It was grand… and beautiful. While Misaki and Akari admired the place, Leon told his chauffeur to take the ladies' luggage to their assigned room and before Mario leaves, Misaki and Akari thanked him.

"Shall we?" Leon called for the ladies' attention.

"Sure" the ladies followed Leon to the second floor while admiring the grandeur and glory of the inn.

"This will be your room. It's busy time of the year so it gets crowded… I hope you don't mind sharing" Leon said.

"Of course not. This is such a nice place!" Akari went in the room, happily.

"It's unfortunate Shin-san couldn't make it" Leon said.

"Yes… He had some business to attend so… He wanted me to attend this time" Misaki said.

"This will be the first time you'll attend the festival, right? Enjoy your time" he said with a smile.

"Yes, I will" she smiled back.

"Please call on intercom if you need anything" he said. "And if you need any urgent help and I'm unavailable, my friends are staying on the same floor. Just in case" he told her.

"Thank you, Soryu-san"

Once Leon left, Misaki went in and saw that Akari was already in the bathroom, taking a shower.

"Someone's very excited" Misaki commented with a smirk.

Tired from her journey by a cruise ship, she flopped on the bed and exhaled. The room was very airy and comfortable. The terrace doors were open and the room was filled with breezy beach air. She didn't know when her eyelids closed and she dozed off.

Misaki woke up with a start when her cellphone rang. It was Shin's call so she received it and told him that they safely arrived and everything was fine. After she hung up, she stretched and yawned. That's when she realized she was alone in the room. Akari wasn't in the room.

"Now where-…?" Misaki paused when she noticed a note on the bedside table.

- 'You're fast asleep so I won't disturb you. I'm going exploring downstairs. I'll be back in sometime. Don't worry. Call me once you wake up'

- Akari

Misaki sighed in relief. She called Akari over her cellphone but couldn't reach her so she sent a text instead. She went to take a bath and dressed up in her tan shorts and light blue sweatshirt but still Akari wasn't back. She called Akari again and this time Akari received her call.

"Akari-chan? Where are you?" Misaki asked.

Meanwhile…

"I'm going back" Kai said in annoyance.

Kai was annoyed with the sudden 'accidental crashes' with the ladies. Everything was fine at first when the boys went on a walk but the three started to get attention from young ladies. Few ladies would actually bump into them or they would try to talk to the young men and Kai had enough, since his friends were enjoying with his misery.

"Hey, we still haven't went-…" Ren paused at Kai's glare. "Okay, fine. I won't laugh. I'll protect you, okay?" he said instead.

"No thanks" Kai sated. "First pay attention to your surroundings" he sighed when Ren was already talking to a vender.

"Uh… I miss Aichi already…" Miwa sighed. "Anyway, we'll go back in few minutes" he told Kai.

"Fine but I'm going back now" with that, Kai left.

"Maybe I should've called Nee-chan to join us…" Miwa shook his head. "Let's go back, Ren" he told the redhead.

On the other hand, Misaki was in a hurry as she talked on her cellphone. She left her room and in haste, she turned around the corner and…

"Uff!" Misaki crashed into someone and her cellphone fell off her hands. "I'm sorry" she said as she bent to pick up her phone.

"Watch where you-…!" Kai paused and his eyes went slightly wide in surprise.

"I already apologized!"

"…" it seemed time had slowed down for Kai Toshiki as he watched the lady stood to glare at him, her lilac hair swishing across her face.

"…Tokura?" Kai blinked in surprise.

"Kai…" Misaki looked stupefied and Kai could see the shock in her eyes.

"You… cut your hair" he commented as he touched the ends of her hair that brushed her shoulders and this action felt natural to him.

"W-why are you here?!" she snapped, unintelligently as she stepped back a little; surprised by his bold move.

"Good to see you too, Tokura" Kai smirked when she narrowed her eyes at him.

"Wait up, Kai-… Hey! Nee-chan?! What a surprise!" Miwa exclaimed when he saw Misaki.

"It's Misa-Q!" Ren greeted as he walked to Kai and Misaki, following Miwa. "This is a surprise! I'll call A-chan!" he added as he called Asaka on his cellphone.

"Hello, guys" Misaki greeted. "Is everyone already here?" she asked Miwa while Ren talked on phone.

"Others will arrive soon" Miwa told her and glanced at Kai who looked suddenly happy. "Weren't you going to your room?" he reminded Kai and Kai shrugged.

"Let's go get lunch" Kai said and Miwa smirked.

"We'll have so much fun together!" Ren grinned.

"Hn"

To be continued…
