It was nighttime, and once again; Kate was wide awake. She slept for a little while, but the thought of her Humphrey is still piercing through her heart. She was more worried about him than before. She was this close to go and rescue Humphrey alone.
She couldn't help but cried a little bit. There was no hope for them to save him, and Kate wanted to believe that there is still hope. But her pack thinks it's impossible to save him.
She remembered the logs that Humphrey suggested using against them, except she and the trio omegas know how to use them properly. Kate slowly walked out of the den and looked at the moon. She took a deep breath and let out a soft howl. Howling for Humphrey and hoping that he will be able to hear her as she let the tears lose once again. Kate stopped howling and wiped the tears off her face. She can't cry here all night long. She promised that she would get stronger to protect Humphrey if he manages to escape or rescuing him. Kate put a stern look on her face and enter the den again. She walked around in circles before laying down. She looked back at the entrance before closing her eyes and went to sleep.
Kate woke up early the next day, finally have a good sleep. She was determined to get stronger and become a better alpha than she was before. Kate ran down the slope and went back to the human camp. She doesn't believe that her training would work against humans. She believed that the knowledge from the dogs is more important and would definitely work against humans.
When she arrived, there was nobody outside of the motorhomes. Kate looked around to make sure there wasn't any human around.
She gulped as she stepped into the area. She was walking slowly with her head rotating around like a satellite. Kate was a little on the edge of her life when she walked through the human territory. She was too familiar with the human's camouflage and the patterns. She looked at every single motor home, the trees, and the bushes.
Concentrating everything on her eyes as hard as she can to see even the slightest movements within the environment.
"Kate?"
Kate jumped when someone called her name out. She quickly looks around again and finds Jade sitting in front of the Window.
"Jade?"
Jade only jumped down from her spot, and Kate can hear the doorknob fumbling until it opens.
"What are you doing here," Jade asked her.
"Um, I just came here to continue what we've been doing. I want to get stronger and protect Humphrey next time." Jade knew how she feels. As much as she wanted to avoid talking to her considering Humphrey chose her, she couldn't bear the sight of Humphrey getting hurt.
"Well, I know how you feel."
"Could you...help me out with it?"
"I can at least try, but...all I can do is show you some videos."
"Videos," Kate asked her as she tilted her head to the side.
"Yeeeah" Jade started as she looked down, trying to find a way for her to understand. "Videos are like uhhh...unnatural eyes that show you the fantasy dream world, the future, and the past sort of thing," she said, hoping that she understands it.
"Wait what" Kate was dumbfounded at what she just said. She wanted to make sure if she heard that right or not. It sounds like it's very unreal, and it's probably something that humans would create that no other animals can.
"Never mind, just come inside." Jade stepped aside, and Kate was hesitated by it. She stopped as she looked inside the building, seeing stuff that is...extremely different. "Kate? Are you coming in or...?"
"Y-Yeah...sorry," she said, stepping into the RV and quickly look around the room.
"Don't worry, my mom is not here. She's with Humphrey's dad."
"What about the other humans?"
"Hummer's, and the huskies parents are out with Humphrey's dad as well. Sargent's, Kiana's, and the Greyhound's parents are sleeping, so you don't need to worry about them." Kate sighed in relief when she said that. Hopefully, they're not a light sleeper. Kate kept her eyes on the strange objects in her surroundings as Jade closed the door right behind her. Everything looks so different. It's like she's in a different world, simply just passing through this entrance. She looked at the walls to see pictures of Jade and her mother. She was in shock to see some sort of permanent reflection of them or something. She then looked to her left on the other side of the motor home to find a picture of Jade and Humphrey standing side by side when they were puppies.
"Aw~." Kate's heart melted when she saw Humphrey as a puppy. He was the cutest thing she had ever seen in her life. That cute smile, those cute dimples, and that adorable tiny fluffy tail.
"I know," said Jade smiling as she gazed at the picture. "He's the cutest living thing that ever lives." Kate widened her smile and nodded her head. Kate wanted to keep that picture until the day she died. "Anyways, come over here" Jade stated, snapping Kate back to reality.
Kate followed her as they went towards a strange L shape comfy looking object with a square-shaped one on the other side. Jade grabbed the remote from the table and set it down on the floor. She uses one of her claws to press down the turn-on button. Kate took a step back as the strange source of light from the TV came on. Kate stared in awe at the TV. It was some sort of eyes that can see the dream world. Jade switched channels, trying to find a perfect example to help out Kate. She was hoping the Discovery channel has something good for it. But unfortunately, nothing pops up to set up a good example.
There's only a cooking show, a cartoon show, etc. She switched to the news channel, hoping that they would reveal something, but they didn't. Meanwhile, Kate just locked her eyes on the screen in astonishment. She was also confused about the transitions on the screen and was curious about how it works. Jade sighed, knowing that there's probably not a great example for it. She turned off the TV and looked at Kate.
"Well since there's not a great example I can show you, but let's just say you need to use more tools. If you want to protect him, you need to get behind some cover. You can hide in a burrow or hide behind a boulder. Now, from what I've heard; Humphrey brought those logs to use against the Blight Corps. So, my only advice is to keep practice using them. I don't know how are you going to use them against them, but whatever works out perfectly is for the best" Jade explained.
"So keep on practicing." Jade smiled a little and nodded her head, agreeing with her. "But, how do you kill a human though," Kate asked her, making Jade widened her eyes and perked her ears.
"Kate...you probably don't want to know," she said, refusing to answer her question.
"I need to know for the last time. Please! This is the only way to defend ourselves" Kate begged her. Jade took a step back after witnessing her bowing down to the ground. "Please...I want to do this for Humphrey..." Jade gasped and widened her eyes even more. She's right. She needs to do this for Humphrey for him to be safe next time.
"Go for the head, instead of their throat."
"Go for the head?"
"Yeah, it's the only way to finish them off quickly, but be careful. Not only they are the most dangerous animal, but they are one of the hardest animals to kill." Kate nodded her head. She completely understands that, knowing that it's going to be very difficult. Whether they are going to defend themselves or having strong armor to cover their body.
"Alright, good. Now, you need to get out of here before they wake up" Jade stated, and Kate nodded her head. Jade ran towards the door before opening it. Kate peeked outside to make sure there aren't any humans outside of the motorhomes.
As soon as she was about to step out, the door from Sargent's motor home started to open. Kate and Jade both widened their eyes. Kate quickly jumped down and hid underneath the RV, and Jade quickly close the door gently. She ran up to the window and looked at the door to see who it is.
It was Sargent and his mom who was opening the door for him. His mom bent down and put something on his collar, which is a large black rectangular box at the back of his neck of his collar. She began to smile at him before kissing his forehead. Kate smiled to see the bond between a dog and a human, which is something she sees in Humphrey and his dad. Not to mention the amount of love he has in his hands, which is unbearable to withstand. Kate watched the woman standing up on her feet as Sargent jumped off the steps before she closed the door behind her.
Kate came out of her hiding spot, and Jade slowly opened the door.
"Kate, what are you doing here," Sargent asked him as soon as he saw her.
"Well...I just came here to get stronger and some advice" she responded, making Sargent grinned.
"I knew you would be the only one who would come back here."
"Wait, really?"
"Yeah, I had a bad feeling about your pack. I felt like they are not ready to face humans, especially the Blight Corps. The best thing they should've done is to hide near the human camps and take their time until we know that they're ready." Kate had to agree with that part. They weren't ready. They had no idea how dangerous humans are and felt like they are only witnessing the peak of it.
"So, what's the plan?" Jade asked him.
"I'm going to bring them back here, whether they liked it or not. I will do it by force."
"Well, I'm going with you," said Hummer, walking from the corner of the motorhome along with the huskies siblings, the Greyhounds, Kiana, and Max.
Sargent smiled when he said that. Kate hid behind Jade as she was a little on the edge again when the dogs came out, meaning that the humans let some of them out. Jade smirked at Kate.
"Let's get moving" Sargent shouted. And with that, they walked off into the deep forest.
Kate was looking down at the ground, worrying about Humphrey as they were walking. She closed her eyes and shook her head, reminding herself to be strong for him. However, for some reason, she's feeling that there's something wrong with him. She doesn't know if it's her love instinct or what. Jade began stroking her back with her tail, hopefully calming her down. Jade can't believe she's doing this to her rival. Kate smiled a little before looking down at the ground again. It may be strange to see rivals confronting each other when they are in love with a person and wanted to be with him, which is not common. This situation is different, and they both know that they just can't stand there and cry without doing something.
When they arrived, the pack was having a feast at the feeding ground. They were eating two huge moose, and the dogs looked away from the sight except for Sargent.
Sargent turned his attention to the pack leaders who were standing on the balcony of the pack leader's den. He began walking up the slopes, and they turned their attention to him while he was walking up to them.
"Oh hey Sargent" Winston greeted him.
"Hey Winston, I need to talk to you about something," he said.
"Well, what is it?"
"I know what I said yesterday about letting you guys give it a try on defending yourselves, but you guys aren't ready, and I just had a bad feeling about it."
"What? What are you talking about?"
"I'm saying that you guys need to practice a lot by using those logs back at the camp. That's the only way for you guys to get the advantage. There's no way you guys would fight them off when you're guys in line of their sights."
"Sure, we can. If you can do it, so can we" said Tony.
"But you guys aren't ready. You can't take risks against a creature that is literally impossible to compete with."
"You can at least try it and find out."
"And what are the chances of you getting killed in a flash?!"
"Good enough to at least try it!"
"You're going to get yourself killed faster than you can think!" Everyone was watching Sargent and Tony arguing over and over again. The wolves know that Tony can be the most stubborn wolf of all time, but they had to agree with Sargent for now. How will they know if they're ready? Are they that scared to be not around humans, especially the one who protected Humphrey and Kate? They kept arguing over and over again with Sargent telling him about the specific things that humans can do in which Tony didn't understand what he is saying, and Tony blabbering about giving it a try and thinking they have the advantage. The parents were covering their pups' ears as they continue eating their food. The omegas were looking at each other, asking themselves if they should jump in and stopped the fight.
Then...all of a sudden, there was that scent. Everybody widened their eyes when they recognized that obvious dangerous pattern. Some of them even ran, but they immediately face planted when they do so.
They were expecting to hear a loud bang from the forest, but it didn't happen. Instead, there was a vast presence within the area, which means there is a member of the Blight Corps within the area. However, Kate had her eyes bigger than anyone else. This monumental presence is so familiar, yet it terrifies her more than anything else.
This monstrous presence belongs to a definite human from the Blight Corps.
Ravens started shrilling throughout the forest and fly out of the woods into the sky. Kate began panting hard as she took a little step-backs with very weak movements.
The wolves stared down into the darkness of the forest to find natural red piercing eyes. The red eyes started moving towards them until something shiny first appeared within the orange sun rays followed along with the seven eyes and a creepy smile on his face.
When they appeared, the wolves began to bow down with force, one...by one. Everyone was terrified as they first lay their eyes on the mask. They began to have insane hallucinations of fear. Some of them pissed while shivering madly, including Eve. The most feared wolf in Jasper park. The only ones who didn't bow down are the dogs. Sargent growled viciously at his nemesis.
The infamous Raven Mocker.
He was carrying a kennel, but they couldn't see what's inside of it. He then set the kennel down and unlock the door before opening it. The figure inside the kennel then stepped out, and Kate gasped loudly.
It was Humphrey, but why did he release him? Kate couldn't help but tear up with joy. She was overwhelmed by the fact that she can break the presence and towards him with a huge smile on her face.
"KATE WAIT" Sargent yelled. When he yelled, it catches Humphrey's attention.
Kate saw his head moving up, and she couldn't wait to see his beautiful eyes.
But she was wrong. As soon as Humphrey looked up, the first thing she saw was...black eyes with a blue ring which is what's left of his blue eyes. Kate widened her eyes when she saw Humphrey opening his jaws and launched himself towards her. Kate had to push Humphrey away from her in mid-air before landing on the ground.
Sargent knew what he did to Humphrey. He couldn't handle his anger. He was enraged.
"Sargent, what's going on with Humphrey," Jade asked him, watching him as he got up like a zombie.
"HE BRAINWASHED HIM!" Sargent let out a war cry before zooming down after him. The dogs stood there when he said that. Within seconds, they began following Sargent's lead with rage and went after him.
"Humphrey" Kate called out, and Humphrey came in charging like a bull. Kate stepped to the side to avoid his attacks, but she was puzzled about what's going on with him.
Meanwhile, Sargent and the dogs came in charging in like a flood. Sargent jumped in the air and opened his jaws, aiming for his face. The Raven Mocker casually looked up at him and bring out his pistol. The Greyhounds immediately swipe the pistol out of his hand, but he brought his left arm up. He swings his metallic arm at Sargent.
Sargent planted his front paws on his wrist before jumping towards his face. Hummer came below along with the other dogs and tackled him with brute force. However, the Raven Mocker stood his ground. His arm was making robotic sounds with each movement. He grabbed Sargent's scruff and throw him against a tree before kicking Hummer out of the way. Sargent let out a loud yelped when he was smashed against a tree. Despite his vest that has protection for him from impacts, it didn't protect him from the strength of his prosthetic arm.
The Raven Mocker looked at his gun on the ground. He ran after his gun, but Storm came by quickly and took his pistol away from somewhere he can't reach. The huskies brothers came by running in. They all leaped towards them and tackled him down once again. Kiana ran right behind them and toss the vine towards Titan before wrapping it around his neck and pulled it tightly.
The leader of the Blight Corps felt nothing. Instead, he raises his left arm and ripped the vines into pieces before standing up on his feet with immense force from his left arm. He looked behind him to see Hummer in mid-air. Hummer watched him reaching underneath his trench coat and pulled out another pistol. Hummer quickly reacted to it and swipe the pistol to change his aim, and he pulled the trigger before he even gets the chance to kill Hummer.
The bullet whizzed past by Titan's head, almost getting his ears. Hummer smirked before getting punched by his robotic arm and sent him flying away. He aimed his pistol at Kiana and was about to pull the trigger until Sargent zoomed in and take the weapon out of his hand.
Sargent held in his pain groan. He was still recovering from the impact and puking out blood. He might have a busted rib cage and potentially puncturing his lungs, but he still got the will to fight.
Sargent looked down and saw his left hand was reaching something under his trench coat again. He immediately reacted to it and grabbed whatever was underneath it before jumping back to safety. He looked up and gasped when he saw the pin that he was holding. He looked down and immediately threw the canister up in the air near the tree lines before it was exploded with flames flying everywhere. Titan and Kiana widened their eyes and instantly took several steps back away from him.
The wolves screamed in fear at the sight of the fire, catching the tops of the trees on fire and the shrubs on the ground. Sargent glared at the terrorist leader, and he pulled another pin from his pocket before tossing it to the other side. Sargent growled and was about to fight him again until he saw a familar dog tag that he was wearing. Sargent widened his eyes into a size of a dinner plate when he saw the dog tag. That dog tag belongs to his former partner and the one that raised him. In other words, his first dad was killed by him and stole that tag and kept it as a trophy for himself. The Raven Mocker then pulled another one and chucked it far from the tree lines. Sargent fearfully looked at the small canister, and it was heading towards the slope down to the hunting grounds. The Raven Mocker tossed another one again, and this time; it was heading towards the pack leader's den.
"OFF THE PLATFORM" Hummer yelled at the pack leaders. The pack leaders immediately jumped off just in time for the canister to make contact with the ground and burst into the flames.
Eve and Winston watched their den being devoured by the flames in horror. The wolves had just witnessed the scariest thing on the planet. A human...making fire with his bare hands like it's nothing. Animals out in the wild feared fire for a long time due to its destruction and are known for putting some animals into a trance to lure them in. And it's very bright like the sun, surrounding the area with immense heat. Now, there is something else that is mightier than fire. A being that is capable of creating and controlling a fire. In other words, a man is mightier than fire.
"Humphrey, why are you attacking me?" Kate screamed at him, dodging to the side as Humphrey continue charging at her like a raging bull.
Sargent and the other dogs completely forgot about Humphrey being brainwashed. He tried to ran after him and stopped him until he almost let out a painful scream. Sargent stopped moving and began holding onto his chest. He wiped the blood off his chin, but the blood kept pouring out of his mouth.
"Sargent, are you okay," Kiana asked him worriedly.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine...more importantly; stop him before he hurts someone or worse" he replied. The other dogs nodded their head and went after him, leaving Kiana along with Sargent.
"You sure you're okay-"
"Just go, Kiana. Humphrey's health in general is more important than mine. I'm the toughest dog you had ever know in your life, go save Humphrey!" Kiana hesitated for a second when he said that. She looked back at Sargent before running after her friends. As soon as she left, Sargent covered his mouth and puke out more blood.
Meanwhile, Kate continues dodging Humphrey's attack. She tried to look at him right in the eyes, but his eyes were so unreal to look at. It feels like this is not the Humphrey she knew for a long time and it scares her. She had no idea what's going on with Humphrey, and the last thing she wanted to do is to hurt him physically.
Then, Charlie and Matthew both tackled down their family member and held him within one spot.
Humphrey let out a war cry as he tried to escape from their grasp. He looked at Charlie and tried to take a chunk out of him, which he avoided by stomping his paws on his snout. They both began to struggle with his irrelevant strength and almost began to lose him.
"Argh, why...why is he so strong? I don't...remember him being...this strong" Matthew stated, fighting back his arm strength. Charlie tried to keep half of his weight on his son's snout and the other half on his arm.
The only thing that is left is his lower body, which is thrashing around. The dogs came in just in time to stop his thrashing movements. Hummer planted his whole body on top of him while the others hold off his legs and his tail. But for some reason, this immense strength is unbearable for them to fight against. It's hard for Hummer and the wolves to keep him mobilized.
"Humphrey, please snap out of it" Kate shouted at him, but he didn't respond to her once again. He was too busy trying to escape from their grasp and wanted to kill somebody. Humphrey was snarling loudly as he continues to fight all of them. The huskies brothers were having a hard time holding his leg, and it goes the same thing to the sisters on the leg. Matthew and Max tried to pin Humphrey's arm to the ground with all their might while Kiana and Charlie pinned down the other.
Sargent was slowly heading towards them, walking on three legs while holding onto his chest.
"Sargent, what do we do," Hummer asked him, struggling to pin his shoulder down.
"We need to knock him out and wait for the chemicals to dose off. I don't know if this chemical affects his mind or what, but this is a different kind of way to brainwash someone else" Sargent explained. "He might be the only one who survived from the injection that they gave him." Everyone enlarged their eyes before looking at each other.
Humphrey took his chance and pushed everyone off with ease. He quickly stood up on his feet and glared at Sargent before charging at him.
"Sargent, look out!" Ace shouted. Sargent stood his ground and was ready to smack the heck out of him. Humphrey leaped towards him with his jaws wide open, and Sargent fights back the pain and sends a mean strike on his face. Sargent ducked in quickly to avoid Humphrey flying above his head. Humphrey tumbled across the ground and stood up again. He turned around and jumped at them. Sargent growled loudly.
He got into a firm stance and was ready to send another blow on him. Within inches, Sargent did it again, and this time; he put more power into his strike. He almost sent Humphrey flying to his left until he felt a massive pain in his chest, which made him gagged and let out a painful scream after striking Humphrey on his face.
Humphrey quickly recovered his posture and charged at Sargent who was stumbling around while holding onto his chest with his right arm tightly.
"SARGENT!" The dogs screamed his name, but it was too late. Humphrey rammed his shoulder against his chest, making him widened his eyes and his pupils shrink into a size of an atom. Everyone, everyone heard a loud crack within the area, and the first thing they saw that was horrifying was Sargent puking out a gallon of his blood before collapsing onto the ground.
Humphrey stood over him with a loud snarl right upon his face. He opened his jaws and was about to put it around his neck and finished him off until Garth, Hummer, and most of the wolves from the four packs completely mobilized Humphrey in one spot. Kiana quickly dragged Sargent away from him as far as she can.
Jade cried as she holds onto Humphrey's thrashing head. She quickly looked at Kate who was frozen in fear.
"KATE" Jade howled at her, snapping her back to reality. Kate shakily turned her head and looked at her with terrified eyes. "DO SOMETHING!"
"W-What" Kate spoke softly and quietly.
"DO SOMETHING! DO SOMETHING FOR HUMPHREY PLEASE!" Kate jumped when she said that. She slowly looked around, trying to find something strong enough to knock him out. She remembered the tools that humans are using are making them more powerful and stronger than ever. She then laid her eyes on a small rock but hesitated for a second.
"But what about Humphrey," she said with a soft quiet voice.
"JUST DO IT FOR HIM! DO IT FOR HIM OR ELSE HE WILL STAY LIKE THIS FOREVER~" Kate widened her eyes before taking action without a second thought. She swiftly grabbed the rock with her jaws and let out a war cry as she charged at Humphrey before jumping up in the air and slamming the rock on top of his head.
Then, Humphrey went limp and his muscles began to relax. Everyone let go of Humphrey as they all let out a sigh of relief. Titan, Sky, and Ace looked around the area and ran off to find vines, so they can tie Humphrey just in case.
Kate was panting heavily as she looked down at her lover. She hoped that it didn't bust his head open or worse, erasing his memories, but she couldn't help herself. What if Humphrey really does stay like that forever? What will happen to Humphrey if he came across his dad again? Kate let the tears loose and covered her eyes as she sat down on her haunches. She couldn't believe a wolf like Humphrey would deserve this kind of treatment. He was the nicest and the bravest wolf she had ever known in her life, and he doesn't deserve all this kind of crap.
Eve walked over to her daughter and move her head to lay on her shoulders, stroking her back with her left paw.
"Sargent? Sargent?!" Kate heard Kiana continue shouting Sargent's name. She moved her paws out of her eyes and looked over her shoulder to find Kiana, Hummer, and the other dogs surrounding him. "Sargent, please talk to me!"
Kate looked down at Sargent and saw his eyes half-lidded with blood pouring out of his mouth like it's nothing. Kate then widened her eyes at the sight of him, knowing that this is not a good sign of him.
"Sargent...please...talk to me" Kiana cried with tears pouring out of her eyes.
"Sargent, please...say something" Hummer whimpered. Sargent didn't reply or make any signs for them to know. He felt something slipping away from his grasps, and with that, he closed his eyes.
"SARGENT!"
