30.- Brother Guilhelm
It's the middle ages, and the Pope has sent the Order of the Lux Veritatis to cooperate with the Orthodox Church in a mission to subvert a possible Gnostic community settling in Sofia. Brother Guilhelm and a brave troop of the finest cavalry from Castle Krieger have been sent for the mission.
And the campaign has been successful so far. The Patriarch of Sofia has expressed his satisfaction with the work done by Brother Guilhelm. That is until a strange series of murders start invading Sofia. People burnt with light by a white witch. Alchemy of the Light. People burnt by the skin but not by the robes.
These murders allow Brother Guilhelm to see things in another light. Pope orders are sacred, but the Lux Veritatis was founded upon the principles of St. Francis of gatekeeping the world from evil. And these murders are evil, pagan practices are just unholy. The witch must be stopped at once.
And the confrontation occurs. The memories of Brother Guilhelm read that on the night of the first defeat of the white witch, later to be known Sofia von Hahn, the Alchemist of Light, the Lux Veritatis is cornered into defeat, until a brave pagan, a Gnostic, wields the fallen sword of Brother Guilhelm, and saves him from the brink of death by cutting one of the alchemist's hands. A hand with an alchemic artifact.
Brother Guilhelm asks the saviour's name. The pagan returns the sword to his owner. "We are Bogomil, you can call me like that," the saviour says. "What about our people? If it weren't for that white witch you would still be hunting us." Brother Guilhelm sheaths his sword. "Perhaps," Brother Guilhelm says. "But if you join us, you can keep us accountable for such mistakes."
"Bogomil…" Ms. Croft thinks while reading the memoirs of Brother Guilhelm. She has read that name before. It is written in that shiny casket. The "long road" to the Vault of Trophies has the resting place of Brother Bogomil, and probably the blood sign of another alchemist.
