I do not own Hetalia okay? Just seeing how you guys like this really makes me smile. Anyway, I don't have much else to say, so enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
The next few weeks passed by like usual, except for the fact that Katyusha and Matthew were busy dealing with the real estate agent and the bank when it came to buying the house they were looking at. Matthew's fame in the local community was picking up, as Alfred had noticed many times when he went to the store people would stop him thinking he was Matthew. Is this what happened with Mattie when we were kids? Alfred thought as he headed back to the car, with Ivan at his side during one shopping trip. He had gone under the pretext of wanting to help Alfred as he was still in a cast and walking on crutches with linoleum floors of grocery stores was tough but he often had replaced some of Alfred's favorites with healthier selections behind his back. "You won't be able to keep your athletic figure for long if you don't eat better." He smiled but Alfred knew from the tone that he was series and not one to be questioned. He then put a package of grilled fish fillets in the cart as well as some bags of frozen vegetables. He noticed Alfred roll his eyes. "And besides, how can I expect any kid we have to raise to eat well when their dad won't himself?"
Alfred smiled at that Ivan was still serious about adopting. Their interview went well but they were still waiting on a response from the company. Often either Alfred or Ivan would call but thanks to the long time the agency took to get a good case or make contacts it was taking a while. But it was coming onto the time where Alfred would have his cast removed, which was the same day that Katyusha had her follow up appointment. If things were well enough she would be put off bedrest, something she was anxious to finally be off of. "Soon, I will be able to walk again and Katy can do more than go to the bathroom out of bed, and you won't be able to nag me like this." Alfred had teased Ivan at the checkout counter.
"Sure…" Ivan replied as they looked at the list to make sure they didn't forget anything that was requested. "I will make sure to tell Katyusha to adhere to what I said. As practice for dealing with a child."
"Whatever…." Alfred said rolling his eyes as Ivan took the cart and headed to their car and loaded up "At least tomorrow I will be able to get this itchy thing off…" He winced and he moved his leg around and worked out some of the dirt and plaster that was itching him.
"And I will get to become one with you with you wrapped around me tightly." Ivan smirked deviously.
"Couldn't resist could you?" Alfred smirked back. "Not that I would mind…"
Gilbert looked through the ratings reports and smiled. So I was right to hire Matt for that anchor job. He smiled as some of the focus group's comments had all reported just what he had thought they would, and why he had selected Matthew in the first place. They thought he was cute, trustworthy and was not too intimidating, the biggest complaint his brother Ludwig had against him. "Guten Tag!" Gilbert said as he saw Matthew come in to start his duties for the day. "Just the man I wanted to see!"
Matthew gulped, thinking that this would be a bad thing that came out of the summons to Gilbert's office, that somehow he wasn't doing well, despite the mumbling he heard from Alfred wondering how someone could mistake him for Matthew. "Yes Gilbert?"
"Finally knocked that overly formal addressing of me?" Gilbert laughed. "I just wanted to see how things are going with my beloved anchor."
"Well Katy and I put an offer on a house waiting to hear back from the agent and we're going to the doctor tomorrow to see if she can get off bedrest." Matthew said.
"Great to hear." Gilbert said. "Your wife seems like she should not be too happy cooped up like that all the time."
"No. She's complaining about having played too many games." Matthew said. "Alfred got her a game system and she's played a ton of Pokémon."
"You said you know the gender of the baby?" Gilbert asked.
"A girl." Matthew said.
"Any names?" Gilbert asked as Matthew shook his head. "Ah well. I will let you know my Mutter wanted to name me Julian and Luddy Monika…."
"I'll think about it…." Matthew blushed. "Seems better than Al's suggestion of Alberta."
"That Dummkoph…." Gilbert said. "I did want to tell you the first focus group came in after seeing your reporting. And they find you trust worthy and handsome. Tell Frau Katyusha she is a lucky woman."
"Uhhhhhhhh thanks…." Matthew blushed. "I got to get ready I guess…."
"Yes do so!" Gilbert said as Matthew closed the door as he lay back in his chair and brought up his phone. "Francy pants!" He called.
Meanwhile Francis was at his restaurant, out back with some of the other cooks smoking a cigarette after a busy rush when his phone rang. "Is that the stuff they played in that Indiana Jones movie? Like when Han Solo was around the Nazis?" One of the younger cooks asked him.
"Uggggghhhh…." Francis said rubbing his temple. This last rush had been a hectic one and he was worn down with Arthur's complaining from when he had his gallbladder removed. He was able to get back to work within a few days of the surgery and was putting up with Francis's modified diet for him at least during his recovery but he was being sent to a psychologist for his uptight issues and all he did was hear about how much he thought the appointments were stupid. "Yes." He took a last drag. "And he'd kill you for referencing that use of it."
"Oh." The new cook said. "Can I bum a smoke?"
"Why not?" Francis said tossing him the rest of the pack. "Not like Arthur would want me to have these anyway. He let it slide the other day." Answering his phone, he sighed. "'Elllo Gil what do you want?"
"Boy, must be a rough day down there if you're sounding like that." Gilbert laughed.
"Va te faire foutre" Francis sighed.
"And you know Arthur wouldn't like you resorting to your old smoking habit." Gilbert kept teasing as he heard Francis growl. "Yikes. Well I have some good news for you that you would find intriguing."
"Really?" He took a deep drag off his cigarette flicking it into the storm drain.
"I feel like the teacher tattling on his student but the first reviews are in from how people see Matthew when he is on television." Gilbert led.
"And?" Francis said.
"Good. And apparently from what dear Matt tells me people are mistaking his brother Alfred for him." Gilbert laughed.
"So it is the reverse of them growing up." Francis smiled. "Mathieu got overshadowed by Alfred so much in their childhood…." He commented fondly on the memories.
"Ja, Ja and I am sure you know his wife is expecting a girl but they have made an offer on a house and just waiting for all that tedious paperwork that comes with that." He heard Francis make a noise of agreement. "So I was thinking that we throw them a combined housewarming and baby shower when the house is all theirs."
"I actually like that idea. And make it a surprise!" Francis smiled. "But how would we get in?"
"Let me and Antonio handle that. You know some of the tricks we pulled on Arthur without your help." Gilbert said.
"Well speaking of which, Arthur told me that Ivan and Alfred were cleared with the adoption agency. Haven't matched up with a child yet but Arthur says Alfred sounds determined."
"We'll do the same for Alfie and Ivy when we know with them. Gramps there you are and their fun uncle." Gilbert said.
"I don't know if Ivan would like you doing that. Poor kid they adopt has a psycho aunt and of course Mathieu and Katyusha for relatives." Francis said.
"Trust me Francy Pants." Gilbert said. "I have grown to like your boys. Never had a kid of my own and just struck out with the one girl I did like a long time ago…."
"I am sorry I cannot help you win back a girl you scared off." Francis said.
"She married another loser anyhow." Gilbert bemoaned thinking of Elizabeta. "Anyway, keep me posted and I will you. Just don't tell Mattie I told you."
"I won't." Francis said with a smile as he hung up the phone and headed back into the kitchen with a much improved attitude. The rush was over, Matthew was doing well in his job and getting ready to get a house and Arthur was doing better. He had already gotten a few calls he had let go straight to voicemail as they were his usual complaints about the students who did not know the amount he did. I think I will make him those fish and chips he loves, just better.
A few days later Matthew was shook up violently by Katyusha. "Huh what? I'm awake! I'm awake!" He said looking around to see Katyusha dressed and sitting beside him as he placed his glasses on. "Katy!" He said.
"Get ready." Katyusha said as she thrust a pair of jeans, a shirt and socks in his face. "Today is my doctor's appointment."
"And we can see if you can move around more." Matthew said as he took the clothes and headed to get ready and saw that Alfred and Ivan were already up as they had an appointment the same day. Noticing what they were eating, Matthew smiled. "Finally getting him to eat something decent for breakfast." Alfred gave his brother a mean look while Ivan smiled.
"Da, I found something that he does like. It is this Strawberry and blueberry oatmeal and some of this turkey bacon." Ivan smiled. "I tell him if we are going to get our child to eat well, we need to set a good example." Alfred sighed at this. "Now it won't be horrible podsolnichnik." Ivan said. "The unhealthy foods you love we can have on weekends. I cannot say I would enjoy overly healthy foods all the time myself."
"You like sweet things too much." Alfred said. "I see what you do to tea."
Matthew took a shower and dressed and met Katyusha at the kitchen. They were heading to the doctor today and he was not going to see her at the house so he wasn't going to argue with her on being outside like that. The doctor's order may have been bed rest unless going to the bathroom, but to get to the doctor she needed to get out of bed. Meeting up with her in the kitchen, Alfred and Ivan headed out having to go further than Matthew and Katyusha who decided they should go to the doctor themselves. Matthew noticed that Katyusha was worried. "We'll get an answer here and you should be able to get out more often."
"I'm just worried." Katyusha said.
"Well you've been following doctor's orders?" Matthew said. Katyusha nodded. "Then I doubt there would be anything you need to worry about." Seeing she wouldn't be soothed until the doctor told her that, he grabbed her hand and led her to the car. "We can go to the doctor now and maybe they can get us in a little earlier."
"Okay." Katyusha sighed.
"You're going to be a wonderful mother." Matthew assured her sensing her insecurity. "You handled Ivan and Natalya during their teenage years, which had to be pretty bad, at least from what I can see from both of them." This caused Katyusha to smile.
"Yes it was quite something." She replied.
"And when they tell you that you can get off bedrest, we'll tour the house in person together and you can figure better what our little girl's room will be like." Matthew promised.
"I would like that." She smiled.
Alfred meanwhile lay on his side, staring at Ivan waiting for the doctor to come back. They had already been through the long check in at the hospital, the X ray of the limb in the cast and now to the doctor's room where he was going to analyze the report and take the cast off. Alfred was told to take the sweatpants he was wearing off while the doctor put a thin paper blanket over him. Ivan sat in the corner waiting for the doctor to come back as well. "It's cold in here…." Alfred said breaking the tension.
"That's because they made you take off your pants…." Ivan suggested but he had to admit to himself it that the hospital was rather colder than he would have expected for the beginning of February. Looking over at the calendar he saw something that made his heart sink. How could I have forgotten it! I saw all the chocolates and advertisements all over the store when we went grocery shopping. Ivan thought as he smacked himself on the forehead.
"Everything okay Vanya?" Alfred asked.
"Oh everything's fine. I just forgot something I need to remember." Ivan said covering up what he thought his husband would take as a grave offense.
"Well I have to stop by the store later. Forgot something too…." Alfred said as he noticed the calendar himself. At this Ivan smirked. "Hey from what you were saying it sounded like you forgot as well! I've been with you long enough to know when you have forgotten something. I hope you don't forget our anniversary."
"How could I forget when you said 'I do' to me." Ivan said. "Or the fact you ran to the bathroom right after the ceremony but before we could go to the reception hall."
"Blame my papa's friend Antonio…." Alfred said. At this a man with olive skin and long brown hair came in with a chart and a rather grumpy nurse behind him with tools.
"Olá! Mr. Braginsky-Jones." He said as he came to sit in front of Alfred's face.
"Antonio?" Alfred asked. "See Ivan that's the guy who challenged me to eat all the sudden death wings he could pay for on my bachelor party."
"Antonio?" The doctor asked. "No I am Doctor Alfonse Carriedo. I do know who you are talking about. That is my brother Antonio. We can be hard to tell apart."
"I know that feeling…. same way with my brother…." Alfred sighed.
"Oh so you're the brother to Matt Williams the new anchor?" Alfonse said. Alfred sighed and nodded. "Knew you two had to be related." Alfred rolled his eyes. "Let's catch up about our brothers later. I am here to tell you your leg has healed up well and once we get it off, you can go back to running around and playing all sorts of sports. Says in your file you broke it in a snowboard accident."
"Yes." Alfred said.
"Lovino, let's begin. Turn on the saw." Alfonse said.
"I like your brother better…." Lovino moaned.
"Not this again. Let's just focus on getting this man's cast off!" Alfonse said as he took the saw and began to cut the cast off, causing Alfred to hold his arm out to Ivan who held onto it.
"It's like those gory movies…." Alfred whimpered so that Ivan could hear but no one else over the buzzing.
"You will be fine dorogoy." Ivan said as he held onto Alfred's hand who grabbed his tightly holding his eyes closed. Soon the cast was cut off and fell to the floor and Alfred's leg moved up and around on its own.
"See, all better now!" Alfonse smiled. "You can put your pants back on. I just did not want them getting tangled up in the saw or anything when we went to take it off. Now you may experience some swelling for the next few days as you go back to normal but this is fine. Some muscle strengthen exercises are needed but you sound very athletic so I'm not worried about you too much. I'll get you some things to read and you will be discharged. Come Lovino."
"Coming…." He growled following the doctor.
Meanwhile, Matthew and Katyusha were sitting in an equally as cold waiting room, waiting for the doctor to come back and tell her if she could go back to normal life. Even though he had put his jacket around her as well, she was still trembling. Matthew knew it was nerves and that she did not like what the technician was like. He was blank and didn't say much of anything, wasn't very friendly at all. He just took the pictures needed and handed them to the doctor who then studied Katyusha's vitals and looked over at her and didn't say much. "Don't worry Katy, I think he just doesn't want you to think things are worse than they are. Stress is horrible for a baby and mom…."
"You are correct Mr. Williams." The doctor said causing them both to jump up in surprise. "I do not like telling my patients much in follow ups as many have spent too much time watching medical shows or playing doctor of themselves online. Worry does no one any good and makes my job harder."
"So, how is my little girl?" Katyusha asked as she held Matthew's jacket closer to her.
"Everything is looking as it should for your point in the pregnancy. The bedrest did you good. I will take you off it for now." At this Katyusha sighed in happiness and Matthew smiled back at her. "But before you two get too happy, I have to put a few restrictions on you Mrs. Williams."
"Oh no…." Katyusha said tears starting to well up in her eyes.
"Nothing that serious! I just do not want you lifting anything over 10 pounds, to do low impact exercise like a walk around the mall or other similar activities daily, try to maintain a healthy diet of course." Seeing that Katyusha looked more despondent at this. "Although the rare caving to a craving won't hurt anything. That is fine. Oh and one more thing, so you know before you think of asking her Mr. Williams, no sex until 6 weeks after the baby is born." He caught Matthew's slight disappointed face. "Sex falls under strenuous activity in my book. And some people get creative but if the action would make a movie rated NC17 then don't do it. And the reason for the 6 weeks is for the uterus and reproductive system to heal fully and foreign objects like your manhood would cause bleeding and infections. So wait." He said sternly looking at Matthew who had blushed while Katyusha laughed. The doctor wrote out a prescription for some prenatal vitamins "I will give you a prescription for a prenatal vitamin. This way your insurance will pay for it. You are free to go." With this, he left and Matthew kissed Katyusha on the cheek.
"Told you you'd be fine." Matthew said.
"I think I can deal with this set of restrictions much better." Katyusha smiled. "Oh and for the light exercise, you did promise to let me tour our soon to be ours house."
"Of course," Matthew smiled guiding her to the car.
