Masters of the Sea and Death
Chapter Three: Melody of Memory.
Atlantis: Many Years Ago.
"He's not coming out Manda," Barugon huffed as he peered into the chamber, seeing the denizen huddled in the corner as Manda walked out of the chamber. "Unless of course you want me to try talking to him."
"I don't know Barugon," Manda replied as she watched Zedus sniffing out the new guardian's scent, and Irys leaning against the wall right next to the entryway. "This is…. different… I… I'm lost… I don't know what to do…."
"He smells of madness," Zedus stated to no one in particular as he continued to sniff. "He doesn't know where he came from… he doesn't know what he is…. and all of that drives him mad…. I think none of us are right to approach him… but I cannot tell from his scent alone." Dagahra then landed right in front of the other guardians, and tilted his head and snorted in confusion when he saw the open chamber. The Barem, the name the humans gave the strange red starfish that Dagahra seemed to see around more often, were one strange thing that had been occurring and now this was happening.
"New Guardian? He hasn't come out yet?" Zedus stopped sniffing and looked at Dagahra, along with everyone else as he said this.
"We've all tried Dagahra," Manda answered after a few minutes, sighing sadly as Dagahra scratched at himself, flicking a Barem off of his shoulder. "He's too scared and nervous…. Much more than any of you were." Dagahra listened and thought for a few minutes, and then started to walk forward, peering into the chamber.
"I haven't tried yet. I'll go to him," Dagahra said to the rest of his allies, and then walked into the dark cool chamber, while Manda looked after him, her eyes open in a worried expression. As Dagahra descended into the chamber, he felt a very familiar feeling of coolness and comfort, no doubt as he had been born in a chamber like this, and yet also a sense of wariness, as he had no idea where the new guardian was, or how dangerous he could be. Among the glowing blue lights and black tile, and huddled in a corner next to the pool of water, was a small furry and scaled mass, with two scared eyes shining in the darkness, looking at the new arrival. "Hey there… I'm not gonna hurt you…. You're confused right?"
"It hurts…. It hurts…. Who am I? What am I? I can hear them…." The other kaiju uncurled and looked at Dagahra, still shaking. "Are you…. gonna hurt me?" Dagahra approached the rat kaiju slowly, and then held out his claw to him, showing it to him.
"…How about this? If you think I'm gonna hurt you, you can stay in the corner, and I'll leave you alone. I promise." Dagahra watched the rat look at the claw, and then after a few minutes, and a few clumsy steps forward, he put his tiny claw in the middle of Dagahra's massive claw and let it close around his claw.
"…. You feel so warm…. What is your name? I think mine is Deutalios…. I keep hearing it in my head…" The kaiju, or rather Deutalios as he thought his name was, was trembling just a bit, his body shifting oddly as a lure came out of his head, illuminating the room a little more. "My body… hehehehehe… it keeps changing like this…. I hear them….."
"My name is Dagahra," the dragon answered the rat, "nice to meet you Deutalios. So your body, you say it keeps changing?" The rat took his claw out of Dagahra's massive one and then stepped back, allowing his right front limb to grow big with a hard shell, ending in a claw like that of a crustacean, and what appeared to be sea urchin spikes coming out of his body, along with his long fish like tail expanding out and his left front limb transforming into a Jellyfish tendril. "Woah…. impressive."
"Oh it's all fun and games," Deutalios replied as he giggled just a little bit, retracting all he showed Dagahra. "All fun and games… but I hear them…. oh I hear them…. hehehehe, oh my…." Deutalios then walked forward bit more unsteadily, and looked at his reflection in the pool, and then smacked it with a quick swipe. "I…. am an abomination…."
"What? What makes you say that?" Dagahra approached Deutalios and stood next to the pool with him, calmly holding onto the rat as he watched the ripples subside. "You're just like me and the rest of us. You aren't an abomination… never…. I see something in you…"
"But them…. Why do I hear them?..." Deutalios stopped shaking and looked at Dagahra's face directly, feeling as if he could trust this other creature. "…. How can I get them to stop? Can you… help me?"
"I think I can little buddy," Dagahra answered the rat, gently stroking his back as he started to calm down. "I think I know who they are…. and I think the way for you to get them to stop is to train with everyone else."
"…. You mean…. those things that came in before? They're scary!" Deutalios quickly started to pant heavily at this, at least until some more rubs from Dagahra made him stop. "Sorry…. Boss…. I guess…. They won't shut up."
"Ah those guys? They're my friends, and don't worry, they won't hurt you…. I was in your position before you know." Deutalios looked up at him with a puzzled expression, before it clicked with him, and he understood what the dragon meant.
"…. How long did it take you to learn about your abilities? Did they help you?" Deutalios seemed calm now, and he had stopped laughing every so often, and was simply listening and talking to Dagahra now. "Did you hear… anything?"
"I did hear a voice, but it was the Heart speaking to me," Dagahra replied, with Deutalios scratching his head as he wondered what the Heart was and why it was speaking to him, "And well, it took me a good while to learn how to use all of my abilities, but now, I've mastered them completely. Hey, how about I make you a promise?"
"A promise? What's the promise?" Deutalios was starting to sound a bit more confident, and yet Dagahra could tell that the rat might still give in to some of his own impulses.
"I promise that I will protect you always little buddy," Dagahra said as he looked towards the entrance of the chamber, remembering how it was for him at first to be born. "And I promise that I will help you out, no matter what happens. You and me, we're partners now… and proud guardians. How does that sound Deutalios?" He turned Deutalios around, and had him look at the entrance, waiting for his response.
"….. I'll take it boss…. So, can I meet the others for real? Hehehehe. I can still hear them though, but I know you'll help me," Deutalios laughed as he looked up at the water dragon, a big smile on his face.
"Sure thing little buddy, come with me." As the two left slowly walked up to the entrance of the chamber, the humans glancing down at them, Dagahra smiled as he felt the warm sun hit his scales again, and left with the smaller kaiju next to him. "I mean it little buddy…. I'll help you…. I think you'll be a great Guardian."
He hardly noticed a Barem falling out of one of his cannons, and merely thought he had run into them while he was underwater.
Iwato Island: Dagahra and Deutalios.
Dagahra woke up suddenly, panting as he thought about the memory of the past, and then looked back at Deutalios, seeing the rat kaiju sleeping soundly. How long had it been exactly since they met in the first place? Dagahra wasn't so sure anymore, but the one thing he could say was that the two always had their backs ever since they did meet. As he got up fully and stretched, he looked around, seeing melting ice and several dead Barem on the beach, along with scorch marks, and sighed. Then he walked over to Deutalios, and poked him a bit, causing the rat to snuffle a bit before he suddenly woke up, a crazed look in his eyes. "Hey little buddy, we got to get going soon okay?"
"THE HEART! I HEAR IT! HEHEHEHE!" Deutalios was laughing and spinning around, and then just as suddenly stopped while he panted hungrily. "Treat? Treat? TREAT!?" The kaiju seemed to be in his "pet" mood, and so Dagahra sighed and aiming his shoulder cannon up, fired out a piece of stored whale meat and watched Deutalios leap up and catch it, eating it hungrily and viciously. As Deutalios finished his meal up, Dagahra watched as the rat kaiju then gripped his head, and started to roll around, groaning in pain as he started to talk again. "Oh this fucking headache! ARGH! Boss, make it go away!" As Dagahra approached the rat and started to rub his head, he couldn't help but think of his memory dream again, and how exactly the rat was received by the other Guardians as he was brought out, something that always stuck in his mind no matter how long they had been wandering.
"Dagahra, you're back!" Manda almost sounded surprised as she saw Dagahra's face emerge from the dark chamber, and then she suddenly saw a smaller face emerge next to him, his eyelids putting a nictitating membrane around his tiny yellow eyes as he emerged into the sunlight, and tried to take it in. "Wait… you brought him out?"
"Sure thing. I have no idea what you all did or said, but I got him out," Dagahra smiled as Deutalios got a good look at the curious guardians in the sunlight, and then squinted at them, now that he had a better look at them. "You wanna introduce yourself little buddy? It's your choice after all."
"Hello…. I'm Deutalios… hehehehe…." Deutalios was very nervous as he saw the others looking at him, and thinking quickly, Dagahra put his claw on his back, making sure that he wouldn't panic. The last thing that needed to happen was for the rat kaiju to accidently have some of his abilities go haywire. "Sorry about earlier… hehehe….. I just didn't know who any of you were…"
"I am Manda," the eastern dragon replied as she gestured to herself, and then to the other guardians alongside her. "And they are Irys, Zedus, and Barugon, all Guardians of Atlantis as you and Dagahra are. And you don't need to apologize… we all should've been better in approaching you." Zedus continued to sniff the air, and then sniffed Deutalios directly, some of his fur flying up into the air and his scales staying where they were.
"Hmmmm…. I no longer smell madness…. rather… I smell conflict within you…. Yes… and you want to control it don't you?" Deutalios looked up at Zedus with a confused look on his face, and did not respond, while the reptile sniffed again, some of his acid dripping from his mouth as he sniffed one final time. "Beware Deutalios…. lest you slip into madness while trying to deal with your conflict…"
"Oh for the Heart's sake," groaned Barugon as he pulled Deutalios away from the other reptile, and then sat him down to speak to him directly. "Look, I know what you can do, and so does everyone else, so we will all help you control your powers. You won't go mad, I promise." Deutalios looked at Barugon with confusion, and then immediately moved back to Dagahra, staying next to his leg.
"Fine. One thing though….. I want to be with him the most," Deutalios huffed as he saw Irys approach him. "I'm only trusting all of you because…. because…. of him….." Irys then looked directly at Dagahra, and back at Deutalios.
"Well then, it seems like he's chosen who he wants to be with everyone," Irys chuckled as Dagahra felt Deutalios's tiny claws clamp onto his leg, and the rat still looking nervously around. "I'm sure you'll be happy to train and take care of him most of the time, right Master of the Sea?"
"Of course Irys," Dagahra beamed, Deutalios smiling too as he gripped his leg and rubbed his head against it. "He's my little buddy after all, and I made a promise to him…" Something was odd about Irys that day…. a sense of bitterness almost, for what Dagahra had no idea.
"Ohhhh…. It's gone, gone, gone….. finally boss…." Deutalios calmed down, and Dagahra took his claw away from his friend, watching as the rat started breathing calmly, and jump down towards the beach, waiting for Dagahra to follow him. "Ooohh… Boss, what's the first thing you gonna do after we kill that motherfucker? Hehehehe…." His lure popped out as Dagahra gently floated down, and looked up at the sky, noticing the clouds starting to disappear slowly, and the midday sun to come out and stare down at the two of them. Dagahra did not answer the rat directly, instead watching a Barem move down his arm, and deposit the scale into his claw, rubbing it gently as he breathed in and out, thinking about all he had been through.
"I'm gonna bring him back…. Master of the Sea, and the Master of Death….. we'll put those filthy apes in their place," Dagahra muttered, remembering how everyone had looked at him with fear after what had happened. "You and me little buddy….. we'll make them all pay….. right after that old bastard gets it first…." Deutalios touched Dagahra's claw, and looked up at him, a sane look of sympathy in his face as the Barem grabbed the scale, and put it back in his cannon.
Deutalios jumped first into the sea, and Dagahra followed heading towards the blue pillar of light in the distance.
"They could be gods huh Irys? What about us then? What are we exactly?"
Monster Island to Iwato Island: The Earth Defenders.
Leo looked quite beautiful as he flew above the ocean, the sunlight shining through his multi-colored patterned wings, and his green eyes glittered as he flew onwards. Junior looked up at him, and smiled as he swam, moving and curving his body along the currents of the ocean, the waves crashing alongside him as he felt the water move through his gills. How long had it been since the two had confessed to each other? He hoped the both of them would've had more time to talk with each other…. and yet here they were, moving towards the blue pillar of light in the distance, to stop a pair of Acolytes from doing something with that lost civilization. Next to Junior of course was Ebirah, the crustacean barely being able to keep with the Jira Tribe member, and behind the Divine Moth was Neo, who was carrying Kong and Anguirus with telekinesis, and seemed to be silent, as if he was wondering about the Beast. Junior sighed, and then looked at Leo again, his eyes glowing red as he reached out to his lover. "Hey Leo, you doing good?" The moth suddenly nearly stopped as he heard this, and then he responded back as he continued to fly, the Shobijin within him boosting his power.
"I'm fine Junior, I guess I'm still trying to process all of this. I love you… but I don't know what I'm supposed to do." Leo sighed and continued to fly onward, his body occasionally crackling with cosmic energy.
"Hey don't worry Leo… I'm still trying to process this too. I think we both will figure out what to do," Junior answered his lover, a warm feeling in his chest rising as he continued to swim underneath Leo. "…. I'm glad I met you Leo…. I mean it with all my heart…."
"…. You're right Junior… We'll figure this out together…. And I'm glad I met you…." Leo seemed to cheer up some, and continuing onward, they soon started to see an island in the distance, a rest stop so to speak. As it got closer and closer, Neo looked at his brother below, and then to the two kaiju he was carrying, and briefly thought back to when they had left their home, and something that had happened.
"Manda." Neo stopped briefly, noticing the sea dragon looking down in shame as she watched him standing near the edge of the beach. "You want to see me?" The sea dragon approached him, and then looked at him, her white mane flowing in the breeze.
"You're…. not from around here are you? You were made…. weren't you?" Manda almost seemed to have tears in her eyes, while Neo looked at her, his hand starting to tremble just a bit as he listened to her.
"I was born in space Manda, although if I was made I cannot say for sure. I've concluded that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant honestly. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are…. I've done terrible things," Neo answered, causing Manda to back away just a little in surprise. "I've been trying to make up for all of that ever since. I know the position you were in Manda…. Where you thought you had no choice but to follow your instincts… funny isn't it?" Manda then approached him again, and place her claw on his trembling hand, causing it to stop.
"….. You remind me of him somehow Neo…. Dagahra," Manda said as she closed her eyes… and put her head against his chest. "Or what he could've been… May I ask you something? Just one question?" Neo looked down at the dragon, wondering why she seemed so fascinated with him, and he nodded as she looked up. "…..Do you think I can make up for all that I did?"
"…. I think you can Manda…. I'm not good at stuff like this, my brother is much better and so was Mothra…. but I believe you can…." Neo let her rest against his chest some more, and he started to stroke her mane, feeling how soft it was against his hands. "I was given a second chance too, and I am not going to waste it. You have a second chance now Manda…. What will you do with it?"
"…. I will do all in my power to help you all defeat Bagan…. I promise…. Neo… you all need to be careful when you go…. Dagahra has changed more than I thought…" Neo let go of her head, and she looked at him, still weak, but with a sense of trust in her eyes. Neo smiled, and then he walked over to the beach fully, joining the others as they prepared to leave Monster Island.
"Hey Junior? Let's stop here for now okay? We need some time to rest." Leo's voice broke Neo out of his thoughts and he turned back to look down at the island, making sure to put Kong and Anguirus down gently on the beach, the two standing up and looking around. Junior swam up and walked onto the beach, watching as Leo landed on a cliff, releasing the Shobijin who flew around, stretching their wings. Then Ebirah scuttled up onto the beach, panting as he almost collapsed, and everyone started to look around at the island, noticing the marks on the beach.
"Jeez, what is this guy supposed to be?" Kong was speechless at seeing how destroyed the beach was, along with the blast marks on the rocky cliffs and the shattered rocks everywhere. "And his friend too."
"I don't know Kong, I don't know," Junior answered as he suddenly started looking around, as if he was trying to listen to something. "Does anyone hear that?"
"Hear what Junior?" Leo sounded confused, and flew over to his lover, noticing how distressed he was starting to become.
"I hear it too brother," Neo spoke as he listened too, Anguirus and Kong looking at him too, and with Ebirah staring at both of the kaiju. "It's…. a song…. But where is it coming from?" Junior looked at Neo, the two listening as they looked around, hearing the song.
"It sounds…. familiar." Just as suddenly as it started, the song then stopped, and both Neo and Junior seemed to break out of their trances, looking at everyone else. "Sorry…. I don't know what came over me."
"Hey it's okay Junior," Anguirus said as he placed his front claw on his leg. "We're going to new places all the time, shit like that happens. I'm gonna take a look around until it's time to go, you coming Ebirah?" The Crustacean nodded as he continued to pant, and the two kaiju walked through a clearing between the rocky cliffs, and started to look around at many caverns and openings to the sea. "So Ebirah….. Why did you really come with us?" At this question the crustacean sighed as the crashing waves next to a particularly big opening almost made a sort of howling noise.
"You wanna know? I live in the sea…. It's my home and so is that island…. and the whole idea of starfish like that living in my home? I don't like it, especially when they can wipe out a whole freakin ecosystem!" Ebirah was wildly moving his claws around and almost spitting up seawater as he said this, the two kaiju finding a particularly interesting tunnel and starting to move down it.
"So it's not because of Ganimes coming?"
"Okay, well he's part of the reason, but still my main reason is because I live in the fucking ocean," Ebirah sputtered as Anguirus smiled at his reasoning, and tried not to laugh. "Look if it's about me pushing you off of my little grotto, I'm sorry okay?"
"It isn't Ebirah, I'm curious that's all. I guess I thought she got to you somehow," Anguirus chuckled some more, before sadly sighing and stopping as they came to the other side of the tunnel, noticing another beach surrounded by rocks. "It hasn't been the same without her at all… we all still think about her sometimes I think….. especially Leo….."
"Yeah…. I didn't know her that much…." Ebirah sighed as he watched Anguirus sit down and look at the rocks as the waves splashed over them. "I know she meant a lot to you…. so I mean it when I say I'm sorry…. That's all I can really say…."
"Thanks Ebirah…. You're not so bad after all you know?" Anguirus then pushed his claw into Ebirah's shoulder, and the crustacean pivoted one of his eyes, looking at the dinosaur and laughed a bit. Then he suddenly got up, and pointed at something with one of his claws, snapping it open and shut to get the dinosaur's attention.
"Uhhh…. Guirus? I think that's one of your buddies." Angurius looked over, and gasped as he suddenly saw a bone white carapace slumped next to some rocks, along with bones underneath it, and he quickly ran over to see it. As Anguirus muttered under his breath, using his snout and claws to look at each bone, he came upon the Angilas's skull and looked at it as he narrowed his eyes. It was a bigger skull than his own…. and over one of the eyes, appeared to be a crack running through it lengthwise. As Anguirus stood at the skeleton, and started to process what he saw, a low growling noise started to rise from his throat as he realized what it was he was looking at.
"It's you…. you fucking piece of shit…. FUCK YOU!" Anguirus roared in anger, and a sonic slash went flying over Ebirah's head as Anguirus swung his tail, cleaving several rocks in half as Anguirus moved back from the skeleton, staring at it angrily. Turning around and seeing how frightened Ebirah looked, he stopped and started to breathe heavily, looking at the anger in his eyes in the reflection of the sea. The anger disappeared almost instantly, and Angurius turned around, walking back towards the tunnel, followed by Ebirah who did not ask anything. "….. Rot in Zenith bastard….. let's go now….." The skull almost seemed to watch the kaiju as they left, its empty sockets howling as the wind blew through them.
On a cliff, Neo looked at Atlantis from afar, as Kong did the same, the ape lost in thought about something. "Sometimes I can't help but feel as if there's something more to this axe than my parents told me. It's like it's alive almost….. but I can't explain how." Kong could feel his axe pulsing with power as he thought this, and looked at it, noticing that several cracks had appeared in the stone blade, and they seemed to not do anything but open it up slightly. "When did these appear?"
"So, humans built that city," Neo huffed as he looked into the distance, catching Kong's attention as the two looked at the blue pillar. "And they created life through it….. did Skull Island have anything like that Kong?"
"Well no…. the humans just worshiped my people and I like gods," the ape answered gripping his axe tighter as he examined the cracks. "Bet you never saw anything like this in space… did you before?" At this question, Neo stopped looking at Atlantis, and his hand started to tremble and he coughed again, his hand getting slightly bloody as he did. "Hey you okay?"
"Yeah, just some internal damage I overlooked," Neo answered as he looked at Kong, the ape wondering how he could've missed it. "Kong, tell me, do you know what Zenith is?"
"….. I do…. Why do you ask?" Neo could hear a strange buzzing in his mind as Kong looked at him some more, a nervous look in his eyes.
"I saw Zenith." Kong gulped as he heard this, and Neo moved closer to Kong, looking at him and gesturing him to look up at the sky as he did. "Space is a vast place…. Bigger than you've ever dreamed of. I have seen planets being born, and planets dying along with the beings that inhabited them…. It's all beautiful in its own way…. I was resting and recharging on a moon as I was heading to Earth when I suddenly noticed a black hole off in the distance." Kong looked at him in confusion, and noticing this, Neo grabbed his head, his crest glowing and asked him something, looking deep into his eyes. "It's better if I show you Kong. Are you fine with this?"
"… Go ahead," Kong answered as he grit his teeth, preparing for the sight Neo was going to show him. Neo put his forehead against him, and soon Kong could see space, and seemed to almost sit on the moon Neo described. As Kong looked around, he suddenly saw the black hole Neo described, and watched as he could see stars being pulled into it, putting his hand over his mouth as he saw how big the singularity was.
"I looked more into it…. and then I noticed something very wrong with it… It was looking at me." Kong then looked, and he could see the singularity looking at him, the stars around it swirling in, and at the center of it all, a pitch-black darkness, with a red planet in the middle of it, like an eye watching its prey. "And the more I looked at it…. the more I started to see…. I saw a whole solar system of planets in there… but there was one that stood out from the rest, at the center of it all…." Kong looked, and saw several planets circling the red one, like Neo described as the singularity seemed to get bigger and bigger. "It was alive… breathing…. And I could hear screams and howls…. And a single voice among them…. calling my name…. The Shadow of RED." Kong watched as the red planet suddenly started to shift and change, as a terrifying face appeared in the planet, and started to speak, albeit without words coming out of its mouth.
"Wait a minute," Kong muttered in unease as he looked at the singularity and then took one more look at the stars going in. "Those aren't stars or planets…. They're the souls of the damned and wicked!" Kaiju and human alike were going in, being sucked in as their mouths were open in silent screams, and then just as suddenly as the singularity appeared, Neo took his hands off of Kong, and the two were back looking at Atlantis, and the ape panted as he looked at Neo, noticing that the space kaiju's eyes were filled with fear, and both his hands were shaking now, the memory seemingly being too much for him.
"I'm sorry… I shouldn't have done that…." Kong silently put his arms around Neo, the space Kaiju starting to calm down, and simply breathe as he felt the ape hug him. Neo closed his eyes, feeling the buzzing in his mind disappear as he started to feel his hands stop trembling. "I…. just needed to get that off my chest… before we go over there. I don't know what will happen… but all I know is the Heart and Atlantis itself reminds me of Zenith…."
"Hey it's okay Neo," Kong answered as he held onto the space kaiju, who seemed to be at peace as the ape did this. "We'll stop those two, I believe it…." Kong let go of Neo, the space kaiju smiling at the ape, causing the ape to sigh in relief, and then look back at his axe, noticing some of the cracks glowing a faint yellow, wondering what it was all about. And back at where they entered, Leo and Junior along with the Shobijin sat on the beach, resting as they continued to think about the previous events.
"Hey Junior," Leo suddenly spoke, catching his lover's attention, "How are you? Sorry… I didn't ask back there when you did me…"
"I'm fine Leo… It's just… I can't stop thinking of those two Acolytes and what they did to Manda," Junior answered as he put his hand on Leo's head, and started to stroke him. "I have a lot to fight for now… more than I did a while ago." Leo then maneuvered his body in front of Junior, putting his front legs on the young kaiju's chest and fluttered his wings a bit, while Junior moved both of his hands to the moth's head. "….. I'm sorry if I seem down…. But I know there's going to be more and more coming even after we deal with these two…"
"I understand Junior….. We just need to see what happens….. So… what do you want to do after we get some time to relax?" Hearing this, Junior breathed out just a bit, and sat there as he thought for a while, wondering exactly what Leo meant by that.
"No training right? Well…. if we could… I'd like to swim with you Leo…. You've mastered your aqua form? Or was it aquatic form?" Leo seemed to perk up at this, and moving close to Junior's face, he nuzzled him.
"Oh not yet Junior, but yes I will swim with you! Either name's fine with me, but I will," Leo happily squeaked after nuzzling Junior. "And then we can hunt together right? More of what we did?"
"Sure thing Leo," Junior laughed and smiled as he nuzzled his mate back. "And we'll find more things to do…. I promise you… I love you…" Junior then lightly licked the top of Leo's head, right past his antennae, causing the moth to chirp happily.
"I love you too Junior…. We will make this work…. I'm sure of it…. so back there… you mentioned you could hear a song? What do you mean by that?" Junior thought for a few moments, trying to remember the melody he and Neo had heard, and then looked back at Leo, ready to speak to him.
"It's…. some sort of melody…. the last time I heard a melody like that was when I was a baby, when I hatched… it called to me… and it called to my father too…. I think… I really don't know what it means," Junior sighed, closing his eyes as the melody from long ago played in his head, and when he saw humans for the first time. "I think when we're done in Atlantis…. I want to come back here just in case I hear the melody again, that okay with you Leo?"
"Sure thing Junior…. sure thing," Leo replied, moving away from his lover as he stood up, and saw Kong and Neo standing there, the two of them looking at the two lovers, followed by Ebirah, and Anguirus, the latter lost in thought about something. "Hey…. You guys ready to go now?"
"We are Leo… Junior," Anguirus spoke, his low voice making Junior wonder exactly what Anguirus had run into on the island.
"Then let's go everyone…. And be careful…." Junior leaped into the ocean as the Shobijin quickly flew back into Leo, while Ebirah joined Junior and Neo and the moth took flight, making sure that the space kaiju was carrying Anguirus and Kong with him, the group heading towards the blue light in the distance.
And then in Neo's head…. a voice spoke.
"Miss me?"
Iwato Island: The Dead Speak.
Iwato Island was silent. Granted, the previous kaiju had left just a few hours ago or so, but it was quite silent. And as the waves crashed around the spot where Anguirus had seen the skull, in the distance a white mist rolled in slowly, enveloping the whole island as Gojira approached it…. his white eyes scanning as he heard a singular voice from among the many souls within him. "My body….. it's near!" The phantom floated above the sharp rocks, closing his eyes as he listened, and then heard a whispering sound to his left. Landing softly on the sand, the phantom's head swiveled around, peering down at a skeleton lying on the beach, that of an Angilas tribe member with a scar on his eye. Gojira bent down as mist came from his mouth, and silently breathed on the skeleton, a white orb floating into the skull, and then stood there, waiting for what would come next. "This is my body…. I found it at last…. now tell me who you are…. And tell me why you have brought me here!"
"Bōryu, son of Baraguirus….. you seek vengeance don't you?" The phantom had closed his eyes, and emanating from his body was the voice of Bagan, speaking with a familiarity that shook Bōryu to his core. "Before you were sucked into Zenith, I saved you, keeping you within my body, and then the body of my servant, as I see great potential in you. You seek power, a power that you believe would've made you the greatest warrior in your tribe, especially after the Cataclysm. And yet…. You also needed to get rid of an issue… a weakness for your legacy…. an old fool…. and a runt….. You have unfinished business don't you?" The spirit watched as the phantom got a grin on his face, his white eyes opening with a sinister look.
"…..He still lives….. I do whoever you are…. Tell me what you want…." The skeleton still lay there…. but the spirit was now causing the bones to glow blue…. eagerly waiting in anticipation for the offer.
"Join me as one of my Acolytes…. No…. one of my Generals…. and pledge your loyalty to I, Bagan. I have gone by many names in the past and now…. but whatever I call myself…. I will honor my promise…. And give you power beyond your wildest imagination….. so you may fulfill your business. Now…. Bōryu, son of Baraguirus….. do you accept my offer, or are you better kept in the body of my servant?" The bones continued to glow blue as above Gojira's head, the faint sound of a fighter jet could be heard, heading towards Atlantis, and the whole area started to glow blue as more mist rolled in.
"I accept."
"Bōryu, son of Baraguirus….. LIVE!" Gojira's voice echoed as all of the souls within him spoke as one, and as he held out his hands, the souls flowing around the skeleton and lifting it up into the air, a faint shadow being visible behind the phantom, an evil grin on its face as dark energy infected the blue, the skeleton being put back together perfectly, aside from the scar. Then sinews and blood started to burst out of the skeleton as it was put back together rapidly, muscles and organs quickly regenerating as the skeleton seemed to form back together perfectly into that of an Angilas, followed by black scales and flesh forming over the muscles, and two eyes regrowing as well, the exposed claws, horns and carapace remaining bone white as the kaiju fell back to the ground, and slowly but surely started to breathe again with new lungs. Then the body started to form several cracks, one across an eye, several more across the legs and lower body and a part of the tail, and a prominent one on his throat, and then burst into white flames, which then went back into the body filling in those spots with an eerie glow. The new being then opened his eyes, one glowing white, and the other glowing red as the scar was ignited with a red flame, which then went back into his body as the rest of the white cracks became red as well.
"Now Bōryu, son of Baraguirus, how do you feel?" Bōryu flexed his claws, moved his tail around and took several steps, feeling the great power within him… and then spoke… his voice now sounding like a raspy version of his own.
"I feel…. alive… this power…. is exhilarating! Now where is my son? It is time I finished what I started….." Bagan laughed as he pointed in the direction of Atlantis…. And the Angilas smiled as he could feel flames expel themselves from in between his fangs.
Unknown to anyone in particular, within a cave of Iwato Island, there was an egg lying among several ancient plants… occasionally glowing red… as if it was waiting for someone.
Author's Note: Hey everyone, it's me again and I am back with a brand new installment of Masters of the Sea and Death, in which you'll see plenty happening from here on out.
