Chapter 31 - House Warming Party
The Doctor, Rose and Genie managed to get the flat put back together after all of the shopping was unpacked. The Doctor put the empty boxes in the dining room and told Genie that her and Tony could create whatever they wanted to with them. She was so excited.
Rose found that he had also ordered her some new dresses that she loved, himself some more suits that were more him, and Genie nearly an entire new wardrobe. Rose laughed when she saw he had got her little blue trainers that looked just like his. "Well, I find them comfortable. She might, too." he reasoned.
Genie helped him put Tony's room together. He had a new duvet cover and curtains with footballs all over them. He also had bought him two footballs, one that he planned to make one that would return to him like he already had made himself. He also had several toys from the Star Wars movies. Genie laughed, "Ha! We're putting aliens all in Tony's room! He likes hunting monsters so he'll love this!"
The Doctor smiled at her. "Are aliens monsters, little one?"
"No, Daddy. There are nice ones, too." she told him.
Rose was excited to finally have her own treadmill. The Doctor asked her to put it in the sitting room, so he could use it when she was sleeping. "That way you won't see me fall on my face!" he insisted.
He also put the stereo for the bedroom together and had it working beautifully. Rose walked in as she heard him playing, "How Sweet it Is" by James Taylor on it.
Rose smiled at him, 'I love that song.'
He smiled back at her. 'It seemed appropriate to be the first song I played in here.'
He walked over to her and begin to dance with her. 'I love this telepathic connection. I haven't told you, but you might have saved Jake's and my life this morning because of it.'
She smiled. 'I love it as well. It's like you have your arms around me all of the time. Will the permanent connection be just like this?'
He nodded as he continued to dance with her. 'Very similar. Just stronger. We will be one, and can't exist without the other one. So, we will be very protective over the other one.'
Rose laughed, 'God, you are already so damn jealous. I don't know if that's a good idea or not.'
He smiled, 'No, not like jealously. Like...hmmm... someone trying to hurt you. I'll react just as if they were trying to hurt me. Probably more so. '
'You, angry enough to lash out and attack? I've never seen that.' Rose told him.
'The Oncoming Storm protecting his Rose. Oh, yes. It is a very real possibility. Although, now that I have this bit of Donna. I feel more... I don't know... like her when it comes to that. She was really quick to smack someone. Punch someone. Cuss them out. I see myself doing that. It's strange.'
Rose smiled at him. 'I love you so much more than I ever could love him. Don't ever worry about that. You are more real to me. More compassionate. Gentle. The lover. The hero.'
'Nope, not a hero.' he told her.
'Not a coward though. More Doctor than he could ever be. I could tell how scared you were when you first were left here. You never faltered. You found your feet. Gathered them under you, and created a life for yourself. It was incredibility brave. Look at all you have accomplished in just one month! You have gotten engaged, became a Daddy, rescued and helped aliens needing help, rescued me when I was kidnapped, saved my life, nursed me back to health, made lifelong friends with two Presidents, became a brother, saved that brother and his friend and returned them to their families, started a football team, started a business, bought two places to live and started to make people's lives better with your machines.'
He smiled at her. 'And I punched out Thomas.'
She laughed, 'Are you proud of that? Answer me truthfully.'
He bit his lip as he continued to dance with her, 'Yeah, I am a bit. And I know that's completely Donna. I was never like that.'
She laughed.
'Sweetheart, I could have never done any of that without you.' he kissed her forehead as they continued to dance.
Rose asked him, 'How are you doing with the telepathic connection. Are you okay with it?'
He sighed, "You know, I really am. I was worried about it, well... you know that. But it's been extremely comforting. I didn't realize how much I had missed having a connection like that. How are you with it? Honestly."
Rose spoke to him, "I love it. I never want to be without it."
He smiled at her. "What are you saying?"
"You know what I'm saying. Think about it. I'm ready whenever you are."
He leaned in and kissed her. She could taste wine in his mouth as they enjoyed a lovely snog. The doorbell rang.
Rose leaned back. "We have a doorbell?"
He looked surprised. "First I've heard it!"
They laughed as they walked down the hallway. Pete was at the door, with Jacob Shepherd.
The Doctor looked surprised. "Jacob the Quiet! It's great to see you!"
They joined them in the sitting room. Jacob looked at the Doctor and smiled. Rose hugged Pete. Pete said, "Howie and Caroline are right behind me. I didn't think you would mind. They've decided it's a Housewarming, Farewell Party tonight!"
They laughed. "That's fine! Brilliant! Sorry, I didn't think of it!" Rose told them.
The Doctor told Jacob to go find Genie in the dining room with all of the boxes.
Caroline and Howie popped in right behind Pete.
Howie exclaimed. "Wooo Doggy! That's some ride! How is the hand and glove?"
The Doctor looked confused, but guessed that Howie was talking about him and Rose. "Just fine, mate! Sorry, we got you up so early with that mess this morning."
Howie waved it off. "Ah, those damn harum scarum's are always quick to call to wake me up. I do appreciate you hashing that out. Those out of towners sure had us afeared."
The Doctor smiled, "It's always better to proceed with caution, but know that most of them are really friendly."
Pete laughed and patted the Doctor on the back. "I'll be right back. I'll go get Jackie." He zipped out.
Caroline handed a present to Rose. "Here, for your new place. Oh, I really like it. The view is amazing!"
Rose smiled, "I'll show you around properly once Mum and Harriet get here."
Harriet rang the doorbell. Howie answered it and threw his hands out. "Damn good to see you, Harriet!"
Harriet hugged him and smiled. "Getting started already?"
"I got up early today, so I took off early! I've been bending my elbow since 2:00!" he told Harriet as she worked her way around greeting everyone.
The Doctor said in Rose's head, 'Since 2:00? Explains a lot.'
Rose laughed out loud at him. 'Oh, this will be fun tonight.'
Rose looked down at the package she held from Caroline. "Caroline, may I go ahead and open this up?"
"Of course." Caroline told her as she walked over to sit on the sofa.
The Doctor watched as Rose unwrapped the thin package. It was two framed pictures. One of the football team that had played on the White House lawn, and another one of the party as they left the White House to return to London.
"Oh, wow!" Rose exclaimed. "Look, it's all of us. Well, except Jake and Harriet."
The Doctor smiled. "We'll get another one of all of us. This is brilliant though. We should hang a copy of this football one in Tony's room, here."
Rose agreed. "Yes, but these two are for in here." She walked across the room and put them next to the huge diamond that sat on top of the fireplace. "Thank you, Caroline. Wow! Seems more like our place with us up there!"
Jackie popped back with Pete. She held Pete very close after they landed. "Okay, that was madness." she told him.
Rose laughed at her Mum.
Pete didn't let her go. "But, are you alright?"
The Doctor raised his eyebrows in surprise. His lessons with Pete seemed to be paying off. Jackie looked at him and nodded. "Yeah, I'm good."
She walked away dazed and sat next to Caroline on the sofa.
The Doctor looked at Rose from across the room. 'Well, how about that? I bet they were snogging before they popped in here!'
Rose laughed at him, 'Do not put that image into my head!'
He laughed at her. Tony appeared with Poltoius. Aemilius had Zeus. Tony ran up to the Doctor and jumped into his arms. "Brother! I'm staying with you and Rose! Did Dad tell you?"
He held the small boy, "He might have mentioned it. You have your own room here. I wonder if you can find it? I'll give you a hint. There are footballs all over the place."
Tony jumped down and ran down the hall. He looked in the first room and shook his head. He ran to the second one and his mouth hit the floor. "Brother! You wasn't kidding! His is brilliant! GENIE!"
Genie and Jacob ran down the hall to join him. Zeus ran after them.
Poltoius, Aemilius and John all excused themselves. "If you need us, we'll be across the hall."
Pete walked over to the bar and sat down. "This is a nice place! Better than the pictures they sent."
The Doctor shook his head. "We really like it!"
Howie looked at the view. "Yeah, the picture there is pretty. It cuts it swell."
Jake popped in. "Hey! Am I late?"
Everyone greeted Jake. "Not at all!" Rose told him.
Jake turned to the Doctor and shook his hand. "I understand congratulations are an order. "
He looked confused. "What? Why?"
"Director Johnathon Smith. But, I'm going to still call you Sinatra for a while. I know you prefer that." Jake smiled.
The Doctor rolled his eyes.
Rose was surprised. "Director? You didn't tell me that."
"It's not a big deal. It's just until Pete comes back." he explained. "That's why I didn't mention it."
Howie was pouring drinks in the kitchen. He had made himself right at home. "Damn. I need to bring you some more dynamite. Let me pop back to my stash. Be right back." He popped out.
"Dynamite?" the Doctor asked Pete.
"The whiskey. I hope, he's talking about whiskey." Pete told him.
He popped right back with a case. "Yeah! This watch is the best, finefied thing. First Swathe. I can get away from that damn flinders and to my friends. Congrats on Director there, Doc! I'm happy Pete put someone that keeps five beans in a wheel in charge."
"He doesn't carry a gun you nut. How drunk are you already?" Pete asked him as he sat down at the bar.
"What? What?" the Doctor asked.
"Five beans in your wheel is five bullets instead of six in your gun. It's as if you have a gun on safety. Make sense?" Pete explained.
The Doctor shook his head. "Not really, but whatever. Pour us up a drink, Howie."
Jake joined the men at the bar as Howie started to pour drinks.
Meanwhile, Rose had went over to sit with the ladies. Jackie brought her a framed picture that was taken by the professional photographer before they left on their cruise. It was of the Doctor and Rose. Rose laughed, because it was before the Doctor had grew his beard.
Rose stood up and walked over to the bar where the men sat drinking.
"Hey, pretty lady!" the Doctor said as he wrapped his arm around her.
"How many in are you?" Rose asked him.
"Hell, it's a celebration! Don't worry about him!" Jake told her.
"What do you have there?" the Doctor asked her.
Rose turned it around. "Oh!" they all shouted in surprise.
Pete laughed. "Pre-beard Doctor! I forgot that's what you looked like!"
The Doctor laughed. "Genie!"
The children ran into the room. The Doctor took the picture and knelt down in front of Genie. "Who is that?"
Genie looked at the picture. "That's Rose and some guy."
"Some guy?" he asked her and smiled.
"Yeah. Why are you taking pictures with someone who's not Daddy?" she asked Rose.
Rose knelt down and explained. "No, Genie. That is Daddy. That is what he looked like before he grew his beard."
Genie shook her head. "Nah, that doesn't look like him."
"That's me, I promise you little one." the Doctor reassured her. "So, do you like me better with the beard or without?"
"With! Because, that. Isn't you." she told him and ran down the hallway with the rest of the children.
"Well, there you have it Rose! I've been wondering if I should keep it. Now I know." he kissed her quickly.
Rose laughed and returned to the women sitting on the sofa. Jackie was telling the other ladies about the bedroom full of Roses that Pete had surprised her with. She was very pleased and seemed to be extremely excited about their upcoming trip.
Rose smiled. 'Those roses did wonders. Mum is all about them over here.'
The Doctor turned and around and smiled at her. 'Better than what we are talking about over here. Still trying to get a number out of me.'
Rose laughed. The Doctor went to turn on the stereo he had just gotten that afternoon and turned down the music low. "Good?" he asked Rose.
She nodded it was.
He smiled. "This turned into a party! Fantastic!"
The doorbell rang. The architect arrived with plans. Jake opened the door and invited him in. "Sorry to interrupt your party!" he said as he saw how many people where there and heard the music. He shook hands with all of the men at the bar.
"Oh, not at all." Pete exclaimed. "Come on in!"
The Doctor took them into the dining room with the large table so the architect would have space to lay out his plans. Rose and the Doctor looked over both of the plans he had prepared, along with Pete, Howie and Jake. One was a very round, Greek inspirited house with a lot of stone work and white colors. All of the doors where blue. The other house was a very boxy, three story house. It had lots of windows. It had one main living area, and two smaller structures that flanked it. Rose smiled as she realized what the two smaller rectangles reminded her of.
'Those parts on the side remind me of the TARDIS.' Rose told him.
He looked at her and smiled. 'Looks like a castle to me. But, yeah, I can see that too.'
They all agreed the boxy house was the one they liked the best. Howie poured them all a drink.
