Chapter 31 A New Spiritual Age
Sean, Korra and Jinora were in the spirit world with the former grinning.
"I haven't seen this part of the spirit world before." Sean said.
"It's beautiful." Korra said touching a flower only for it to turn into a spirit butterfly making her laugh.
"The spirits are so much more beautiful in their own world than they are at home." Jinora said following it.
"Jinora." Sean said following her.
"Hold on." Korra said as they chased her.
Thats when Korra stepped into a hole.
"Hey watch where you're goin', you giant clod." A spirit annoyed.
"Whoops sorry." Korra said.
"We're kinda new around here." Sean said.
"This is a residential area in case you hadn't noticed. Who do you think you are stomping through here like that?"
"I'm the Avatar." Korra said crossing her arms grinning before another came out.
"The Avatar." He sniffed her which made her uncomfortable. "Not impressed."
"Oh perfect critics." Sean said getting annoyed.
"We're trying to find the spirit portals? I opened one..." Korra tried to say before another came out the ground.
"I heard Unalaq did that."
"No he tricked Korra into doing that to free Vaatu." Sean said as another came out.
"Well, if you opened it, how come don't know where it is, huh?"
"That was at the South pole in our world." Korra said getting tired of them already before more showed up.
"I don't trust them!"
"Get out of our world!"
"We don't need you."
"You don't belong here!"
"KNOCK IT OFF!" Korra yelled trying to bend but to her shock nothing happened.
"Oh great I just realized." Sean said annoyed realizing they couldn't bend or use their powers.
"Did you guys see that? She tried to bend at us."
"Enough already!" Sean yelled.
"Wait a second. I know this guy." One said smelling him. "He's Athena's brat."
"Who you calling brat?" Sean asked annoyed.
"I think she could have chosen better than the Ghost of Sparta." One said before yelping as Sean grabbed him by the throat.
"Do not call my father that. I would think you would respect a man for sacrificing his life to save his son." Sean said glaring at him.
"Yeah after murdering his last family."
Sean roared before throwing the one in hand at the other before they attacked them.
"GET OFF!" Korra yelled.
Jinora hearing them saw what was happening.
"Guys calm down. Your energies are making it worse." Jinora said rushing to them before they started swirling.
"OH FUCKING HELL!" Sean yelled as they went underground before appearing in water before swimming to each other.
Only for Korra to scream seeing a large monster coming at them before swallowing them.
The three surfaced in a river.
"Ok I wanna leave now!" Sean yelled before they got separated.
"Sean! Jinora!" Korra yelled before she fell making her scream before she gently laid on her back before sitting up. "Sean? Jinora?" Korra asked seeing dark spirits making her widen her eyes before running away. "Sean?" Korra called out but came face to face with another dark spirit and ran off.
"Sean!" Korra yelled out before sobbing was heard from a child before it was revealed Korra turned into a four year old "Sean." Korra sobbed.
Sean roared as he used his axe to slash through the vines.
"KORRA! JINORA!" Sean yelled as he continued to slash his way through before coming face to face with Amon making him yell as he jumped back.
"All you bring is suffering to those you love." Amon said making him growl before slashing him.
"Not this again." Sean said before Hiroshi appeared.
"You are the cause of so much suffering in the world!" Hiroshi yelled.
"Thats funny coming from a guy who was willing to kill his own daughter!" Sean yelled slashing him before thousands of people appeared.
"Where were you when we needed you!"
"You let the gods go to war!"
"You are not fit to be called a Spartan!
"You abandoned us!"
"ARGH!" Sean roared before he started slashing through them all.
Jinora outside the dark forest was the only one not having problems.
"SEAN! KORRA! Where are you?" Jinora called out but got nothing. "Hello? I'm lost." Jinora said before a creature cooed making her look seeing one of the spirits she met before the three arrived. "Furry-Foot." Jinora said rushing to him seeing he was even bigger. "You're so big here." Jinora said. "I don't suppose you know where Sean and Korra are, do you?" Jinora asked "We were supposed to go find the spirit portals but I don't know how to find anything down here." Jinora said before he picked her up and carried her somewhere.
Thats when they came to some large palace
"Wait...I know this place. Grandpa Aang came here. It's wan Shi Tong's spirit library." Jinora realized.
Meanwhile
Korra continued to cry as she sat next to a tree holding her legs before hearing a hawk screech making her widen her eyes before swatting something away.
"STAY AWAY FROM ME!" Korra cried out before she opened her eyes seeing it was a small harmless spirit who she now injured before approaching it. "I'm sorry. You scared me." Korra apologized before they heard giggling as someone approached them.
"Being afraid is not a bad thing."
"I know you." Korra said making her smile.
"I should hope so. You did marry my husband's son."
"Lysandra." Korra said looking at Kratos's first wife who smiled at her.
"Hello Korra." Lysandra said picking her up before they left.
"Why are you here?" Korra asked making her smile.
"Athena thought perhaps someone from the past could help you and Sean. You have me and he's gonna have someone he knows." Lysandra said as they exited the forest before seeing other spirits that were good. "Perhaps a familiar face from your past life might also help you." Lysandra said before they saw someone Korra knew from the past during Aang's days.
"Iroh?" Korra asked seeing The famous Dragon of the West.
"Korra. You've come just in time for a tea party." Iroh said as the two sat down. "Help yourself to some spirit cakes. They won't make you gain any weight. Of course, you won't lose any, either." Iroh said patting his large stomach. (Oy every time)
"This part of the spirit world isn't so scary." Korra said.
"This part is protected from Unalaq's evil." Lysandra said making her look down. "Whats the matter?"
"I opened the portal and caused all this." Korra said depressed.
"No Korra. This started years before you were tricked by him. He's always been twisted by darkness." Lysandra said before grabbing a tea pot but Korra recognized it.
"My teapot!" Korra said making Iroh chuckle.
"That's right. It was yours long, long ago. When you were Avatar Wan, you used it to carry the light spirit Raava around until the two of you became one. It's my favorite thing I've found here. You know, when you make tea in it, you can still taste a little light in every drop." Iroh said pouring her some tea as she drank it and smiled.
Meanwhile
Sean panted in exhaustion as he tried to get these people to stop torturing him.
"Where were you when we needed you!"
"There is blood on your hands!"
"MONSTER"
Sean groaned holding his head ready to break.
"Stand up."
Sean widened his eyes before looking up seeing his uncle Deimos above him.
"Deimos?" Sean asked standing up.
"A spartan does not fall to his knees." Deimos said.
"How the hell are you here?" Sean asked.
"Athena knew something would happen and you would need some help here so while Korra has someone with her you have me. And we have much to talk about." Deimos said.
Meanwhile
Jinora and her spirit friend flew into the library Wan Shi Tong's library before they landed.
"Wow. I could just stay in here forever, reading." Jinora said.
Thats when Wong Shi Tong arrived and landed in front of her.
"The last human who said that is still here." Tong said looking at the dead corpse of a man who clearly died decades ago. (You know the stupid thing about this is that Wan probably killed him when Aang and the others left so he died for nothing)
"Professor Zei." Jinora said.
"I see that you have some knowledge of the past, so you should know that humans are no longer allowed in my library." Tong said.
"Not even someone who knows Athena?" Jinora asked making him pause.
"Don't test me. Athena has long since passed from the land of the living." Wan said.
"Not true. I think you'll find that people and gods like her that Death is only the beginning." Jinora said.
"Perhaps but you know someone close to her obvious to know her." Wan said.
"Her son. Sean." Jinora said making him widen his eyes.
"Your friend's with that freak of nature?" Wan asked making her glare.
"I wonder how Athena would think of you for saying that about her son." Jinora said making him scoff.
"I told her that thing was a mistake but would not listen. Fine you may read whatever you desire but keep that thing out of my library." Wan said flying away.
"What a jerk. No wonder Gran-Gran spoke so low about him." Jinora said annoyed.
Meanwhile
"They say that the game of Pai Sho was invented by spirits, Although some of them don't seem to grasp it very well." Iroh said playing with one who looked like a flower.
"Just hold on. I'm thinking."
"I'm beginning to question if you can think." Lysandra said making Korra giggle.
"So...Wheres Calliope?" Korra asked knowing Sean would want to see her.
"She's not here. She's in Elysium where all the pure souls like ours go to in death. Even Deimos was sent there." Lysandra said before Korra looked down. "Whats wrong?" Lysandra asked.
"Why are you helping me? After what Kratos did." Korra said.
"Korra. That was an accident. Despite how drunk with power Kratos was...He would never willingly kill us. Why do you think Ares tricked him? Why not tell him to do it himself?" Lysandra asked.
"Even the worst of mankind have limits Korra. And even they also have their most noble sides. For Kratos he cared deeply for his family even though he didn't show it all that well. And when Sean was born he made a vow he would protect him with his life. And he did." Iroh said.
"But he lost control." Korra said.
"True. But it also led to the creation of the Avatar and evolved his powers further. And even though Sean lost his original family...He later gained a new one." Iroh said as a pool of water appeared before it showed her parents finding Sean in the temple 14 years ago making her smile.
"Sometimes the greatest of losses can lead to gaining something new to replace those losses." Lysandra said as it showed when she and Sean first met making her smile before Korra suddenly reverted back to her current age.
"Do you think...They would change anything from the past if it meant we wouldn't meet?" Korra asked.
"No. I believe Athena and Kratos would agree this life he had with you and your family was a better option to leading him down his path to restore order to the world." Iroh said as various events of the two appeared fighting side by side over the last year before their wedding appeared making a single tear trail down her eyes.
"I need to find him." Korra said.
"I have a feeling you will both find each other at the top of Hai Riyo Peak." Iroh said pointing to the way before handing her the dragon-bird she injured. "Take him as well so he may find his friends as well." Iroh said making her smile holding him close before running off.
Meanwhile
"I am so sorry I couldn't save you." Sean said with his head down.
"Sean...You did everything you could. And thats the best you can do." Deimos said.
"I know but...I didn't want to lose you like that. I already lost my parents because of Vaatu before I knew about him. I didn't want to lose you as well." Sean said.
"I know. The one thing you care about most is your family. You get that from your father. He may not show it well because of his training and past. But he always cared deeply about his family. A trait that has been passed down to you." Deimos said.
"What was he like when you were kids?" Sean asked making him chuckle lightly.
"Not much different than he was as a regular Spartan. He was fierce and skilled. With dreams of joining the Spartan army as did I." Deimos said.
"Didn't ancient spartans cast out those who were sick and frail?" Sean asked.
"That was an old tradition during our time. But because of your the traditions have changed and for the better. You give people hope." Deimos said.
"But I let everyone down for 10,000 years." Sean said.
"Even if you and your mother had gotten back to Avalar where you would be safe you still wouldn't have been ready with all the training they could give you. To do what you do you need a purpose and a cause. For you now it's to protect what you have. Your new family and your wife." Deimos said making him smile lightly.
"Yeah. As that why the temple came out because it knew what would happen?" Sean asked.
"In a manner of speaking. You can call it Wan's last gift to make sure you got back what you lost." Deimos said making him smile.
"Speaking of Korra I need to find her." Sean said.
"I think I know where you can look." Deimos said pointing to the mountain. "Go...She needs you." Deimos said vanishing.
"Goodbye Deimos." Sean said running off.
Meanwhile
Jinora was looking fro a map to the spirit portals.
"Ugh! It's not here either." Jinora said frustrated.
Thats when one of the spirit dogs grabbed one book and brought it to her.
"Thank you." Jinora said opening it and began to read it. "The Tree of time. Thats where Avatar Wan imprisoned Vaatu. The Elders believed as long as the portals are closed during the harmonic convergence, Vaatu will remain imprisoned and the battle between good and evil will not be fought again. But if both portals are opened, Spirit energy is amplified greatly. During the harmonic convergence, this energy will be great enough to allow Vaatu to break free from his bonds, and the material world will again risk being consumed by darkness." Jinora read. "We have to warn Sean and Korra." Jinora said.
"Leaving so soon?" Unalaq said shocking her. "When Wan Shi Tong told me he had a visitor, I had to see it with my own eyes. I can't believe Tenzin sent his daughter here instead of coming himself. What kind of a father is he?" Unalaq mocked.
"Better than you. Wan Shi Tong, how can you be helping him?" Jinora asked.
"Unalaq has proven to be a true friend to the spirits, unlike the Avatar and that thing Athena calls a son." Wan said.
"Why would you wanna help Vaatu escape? He'll destroy everything." Jinora said.
"Don't believe everything you read. Why don't I show you an up-close demonstration." Unalaq said approaching her before her spirit turned dark making her gasp.
Meanwhile
Korra continued to climb the mountain to reach the nest for the spirit dragon she was holding.
Thats when she suddenly lost her footing making her yell as she fell backwards.
Only for a chain to wrap around her pulling her up before she found herself in the arms of her husband.
"Miss me?" Sean asked.
"Sean." Korra said before pulling him into a kiss. "By the way I had a nice talk with Lysandra." Korra said.
"I had a talk with Deimos. We can talk about that later. Right now lets get to the top." Sean said as she held on to him before he started jumping up to the top before they reached the nest.
Korra put the dragon-bird hatchling in the nest they all merged and became one larger Dragon-Bird as it flew around making them smile before it landed before they jumped on.
"All right. Let's find that portal and close it and then find Jinora." Sean said as they flew off.
Soon they arrived at the portals before they landed next to the one that was already opened.
"At long last." Vaatu said as they appeared in front of him. "We meet again God Slayer after 10,000 years." Vaatu said.
"Yeah and I remember what happened. Your gonna pay for killing my father and taking my family from me. Enjoy the time you have in that tree. Cause when the Convergence is over...I'll be sending you somewhere you'll never cause any harm again." Sean said holding a scroll making him laugh.
"I see. You wish to seal me within one of those scrolls and then destroy it to forever trap me within. A very clever idea I must admit. Just one little flaw though." Vaatu said.
"And just what the hell would that be?" Sean asked before Jinora screamed making them turn and saw Unalaq with Jinora using some dark Water bending arts making him growl.
"You mother!" Sean tried to say before dark spirits appeared.
"You're such a hypocrite. You claim Sean's a threat to the natural order and yet here you are trying to free him." Korra said glaring at him.
"I don't need to hear a lecture from you. Besides I'm doing the world a favor. By destroying the current world I make way for a new and better one that is spiritually enlightened." Unalaq said.
"Where is the enlightenment in killing billions? You just want power to have the world in your image. Thats not gonna happen." Sean said.
"Oh but it will. Now unless you want your friend's soul to be destroyed you'll open the other portal now." Unalaq said making Korra glare before lowering her head.
"Ok...You win." Korra said as Sean held her and glared at Unalaq.
"I am going to kill you for this. Be certain of that." Sean said making him grin.
Korra walked to the portal before she opened it up creating a large wave of power making the dark spirits roar.
"Let her go." Sean said glaring at him.
"I don't think so." Unalaq said before attacking them with water bending. "You should have come through the portal! Then you could use your powers!" Unalaq yelled as Jinora was carried away.
"JINORA!" Korra yelled before Sean took a hit for her making him groan in pain before Unalaq tried to destroy his soul.
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT UNALAQ!" Vaatu roared stopping him.
"But why? Nows my chance." Unalaq said.
"I told you if anyone is going to kill him it is going to be me." Vaatu said making him growl before glaring at them.
"I'll be seeing you again. Be certain of that." Sean said before they vanished.
Both gasped as they entered their bodies again.
"What happened?" Tenzin asked.
"Damn!" Sean yelled rushing to Jinora trying to wake her up.
"What happened?" Tenzin asked concerned.
"Unalaq was waiting for us to ambush us. I had to open the other portal to save her. But he still took her soul." Korra said worrying Tenzin.
"She can't remain outside her body for long or else..." Tenzin tried to say before Turok cut his palm.
"Don't even think about it." Sean said before Turok pushed him back before placing his palm on her head before chanting in his native language before Jinora's body glowed before Turok drew his palm back and a green symbol appeared on her forehead.
"This should keep her body in perfect condition until we can reclaim her soul." Turok said making Tenzin sigh in relief before Sean punched him.
"IDIOT! You know doing that incantation comes with a price!" Sean yelled.
"I'm willing to pay it." Turok said picking her up.
"What price?" Tenzin asked.
"The longer that seal is placed on her it drains his body of energy to the point of death." Sean said shocking him.
"Why would Turok do that?" Tenzin asked.
"Because he cares about Jinora the same way I do for Korra. Some bonds are so strong you're willing to put your life on the line for them." Sean said as Korra placed her hand on his shoulder.
"We're gonna get her back before that happens. I promise." Korra said making him nod.
Meanwhile
"Now that the second portal is opened the God Slayer will come here with everything he has. With the power of a thousand gods he'll have the advantage and my troops will never be able to hold him back." Unalaq said to Vaatu.
"Not unless you even the odds in your favor." Vaatu said summoning two scrolls.
"What are these?" Unalaq asked.
"The one on your left can summon the monsters the Gods use to fight their battles against the mortals from all over the world. Given you an edge you need to fight them on even ground. The second one however can bring those who have been killed in the last five years in body and mind and does not require the souls if they have been absorbed." Vaatu said making Unalaq grin.
"I have the perfect list in mind. I'll use this scroll to revive the gods Kruger has killed in the last five years along with other powerful foes he's killed that I can bring back to serve me until the convergence." Unalaq said grinning.
