My Hero Academia: Entreri Gaiden
Chapter thirty-two: Finding out some truths
Minoru Mineta sat in the police interrogation room, his hands cuffed to the metal table sitting in the room. Mineta had been waiting there for who knows how long, but all of that extended time gave him time to think on how, for the second time, his life had been brought crashing down all around him. Finally, the door leading into the interrogation room opened, and into the room walked Commissioner Naomasa, followed by the pro heroes Deku and Shoto, who are Mineta's former classmates from UA Izuku and Todoroki.
Naomasa walked up to the table, sat in the chair opposite of Mineta. "...Well now, I suppose you know why I'm here," Naomasa began, "As well as why you're here."
The disgraced former UA student, the exposed criminal gang lord, scoffed bitterly at his lack of luck in life now. "...Yeah. My life was ruined."
"You had a chance and threw it away," Todoroki spoke up, his tone, his expression, offering no sympathy period to his disgraced former classmate, "Everything that led to where you are now is all on you, Mineta."
Letting out a resigned, troubled sigh, Naomasa spoke up. "...Listen, Mineta. The simultaneous raids conducted on all of your properties allowed the police and pro heroes to gather enough evidence to put you away for the rest of your life. There's no point for you at this point to try to keep anything withheld, so if there's still any good in you, at the very least help to provide some info to give closure to people who had suffered because of your actions."
The short man looked up bitterly at the good commissioner. He let out a subdued sigh. "...Fine, ask away, then. It's not like I'm going to get out of this anyway."
As such, Naomasa proceeded to ask Mineta a series of questions, ultimately culminating to the point where Naomasa got to more recent events. "...So that's why you had Nezu and Eraserhead kidnapped," Naomasa said, "You had wanted revenge on them for allowing your expulsion to go through and for pushing for said expulsion respectively."
"It would also explain why you had loads of your men attack and destroy UA," Izuku remarked, his tone somber, "Killing anyone affiliated with the school that they came across."
As Mineta nodded slowly, Todoroki said, "You had also crossed a serious line when you had Kirishima's son kidnapped to use as a bargaining chip to coerce us into releasing Big Beef. That man is the person who had crippled Bakugo into retirement."
"It wasn't for long, though," Mineta pointed out dryly, "He came out of retirement after some sort of miracle surgical procedure had restored him."
"Yeah, American doctors are awesome," Izuku said, "But that's besides the point." Looking right at Mineta, the top hero went on, "There's also the fact that you had employed Ryumaru Okami as one of your henchmen, despite knowing that he wanted to kill you."
"Actually, about that," Mineta began, "I legit had no idea that I was the person that he wanted to track down and kill. Likewise he clearly had no idea who I really was, otherwise I'm pretty sure I'd be dead right now. You actually taking him out during the siege on UA had saved my life, so thanks for that. I had no idea of anything until you told me how close of a call I had."
Izuku scowled a bit. "There's something else I'm wondering. Why did you have your man Entreri kill your other man Big Beef?"
Once again, Mineta gently shook his head. "Actually, that wasn't something I flat out ordered, per say. Entreri made the call on his own when he saw that Big Beef was about to deliberately but unknowingly kill my daughter." The exposed criminal gang lord arched a wry eyebrow. "Believe you me, I would have called for Akio's death myself if he really did kill Ichigo."
"Oh yeah, young miss Mineta had snuck along on an internship job," Naomasa remarked, "I had heard about that."
"Also, why did you have both Izuku's wife and Bakugo's wife kidnapped to be used as bargaining chips for more of your men to be released?" Todoroki asked.
Mineta let out a hmph as he shrugged. "They're the wives of two notable pro heroes. I figured they'd be of value. I still can't believe that they were rescued before I could get any of my men out of jail."
Izuku turned to look at Todoroki, let out a troubled sigh. The two pro heroes turned back to look at their disgraced former classmate. "...There's just one more thing that I want to ask you for now, Mineta," Izuku said, a hint of seriousness entering his tone and expression. The number one hero walked over to the table had Naomasa get up so that he could directly face Mineta as he put his hands on the table. Izuku was standing up, looming over the short Mineta who was in his seat still. Izuku then asked his question, only three words long.
"Who is Entreri?"
The exposed criminal gang lord arched a wry eyebrow at the question. "...Why the hell would you care about a specific one of my underlings so much? Hell, he wasn't even a lieutenant that was in charge of one of the branches of my gang. Just an elite thug."
Izuku's glare wouldn't let up. "Just tell me."
Mineta let out a troubled, resigned sigh. "...I very much doubt that you'll believe me when I say this, but I have no clue who Entreri really is."
"Oh don't give us that!" Todoroki snapped from where he leaned his back into a corner in the interrogation room.
"I'm being honest here!" Mineta declared, "I have no clue about who Entreri really is! All I know about him is what he told me! Hell, I'm not even sure if he's got a quirk or not!"
Naomasa, after considering Mineta for a moment, nodded in confirmation. "...Yeah, he's telling the truth, heroes." After checking a few things with Mineta, Naomasa was able to confirm that the disgraced former UA student only knew as much about Entreri as everyone else did.
The interrogation was just about wrapped up when Naomasa said, "Yeah, you'll be kept here until transport can be arranged to take you to a villain prison. Although knowing how low danger your quirk poses, an argument could be made to fit you with quirk suppressing cuffs and put you in a regular prison. Then there will be the upcoming trial, and from where I'm sitting it's looking like at least a few life sentences."
Mineta scowled bitterly as he looked up at the good commissioner, at two of his former classmates. "...I bet you guys are so amused right now. Amused that my life was ruined the first time when I was expelled from UA for something that I didn't do, then amused again when I had clearly been betrayed by one of my underlings as there's no way otherwise the heroes and the police could have gotten a hold on where all my properties were located as well as grab me."
"Yeah, that female thug we captured spilled a lot," Todoroki lied; Mineta showed no sign that he suspected that Entreri was the one who had actually betrayed him, and one of the things that Entreri had asked for in return for his part in bringing Fine Wine down was to remain anonymous out of potential fear of retaliation from his now former boss. As such, it was agreed that the pro heroes and police would withhold Entreri's involvement from Mineta, and even give Mineta the wrong gender for the person who ratted him out.
Mineta was taken away to a holding cell by a few officers, who placed quirk suppressing cuffs around his wrists and ankles to keep him from being able to use his quirk. After Mineta was gone, the heroes and Naomasa looked on at the door that the officers led Mineta out of. Slowly, they all turned back to look at one another. "...I still can't believe that Mineta had fallen as low as he had," Izuku said in a regretful tone.
"It cannot be helped, Izuku," Todoroki said, "Mineta made his bed and now he has to lay in it."
Izuku, still regretting what all had led to this, nodded somberly in agreement with Todoroki. The two pro heroes then took their leave, thus leaving Naomasa alone. The look on the face of the good commissioner was one of serious consideration. He could tell that what Todoroki had said about the gender of the underling who betrayed Mineta was a lie; he had been briefed on the plan due to the request Entreri had made in one of his letters to remain anonymous.
He could very much understand why the assassin-style thug didn't want his former boss to know he betrayed him. As such, Naomasa knew that what Todoroki said about Mineta being ratted out by a female thug was a lie.
...The only lie he picked up while Mineta was in the room.
The following morning, Fuyuki was out in public after having spent the night in an abandoned building for shelter; aside from the papazan chair he had bought for himself, everything that he had left behind in the primary warehouse hideout was stuff provided to him, stuff already there. Fuyuki was able to grab and take with him all of his other stuff, even the books he had bought while he was still working for Fine Wine.
Fuyuki looked up into the sky, saw that it was looking like it could rain soon due to how dark and cloudy it was; Fuyuki was still in his public disguise, with yellow blonde spray on hair dye and blue contact lenses. If the rain was bad enough, it could wash the spray on hair dye out of his hair completely. Luckily, Fuyuki still had plenty of money; half of the money he had when he had run away from home, plus all that he earned since then. Buying a serviceable umbrella would be no issue for him.
After buying an umbrella, Fuyuki made his way into a diner to get himself some breakfast. He ended up ordering a French toast meal, with a large glass of orange juice and a mug of coffee (with cream and sugar) as his drinks. As Fuyuki ate, his attention was drawn to a wall-mounted TV, which was playing the local news. Seeing what the subject of the morning news was about, the disguised, runaway teen decided to give the news his attention.
"Police and pro heroes are still gathering what all was recovered from the raids on multiple properties after tips from a captured woman thug working for the criminal gang lord known as Fine Wine led to his arrest late yesterday evening, ending the decade and a half long nightmare that Fine Wine was to the country once and for all," a male news anchor said, "With arrests still being made and processed due to the sheer number of men and women captured in the raids, including Fine Wine himself."
The news when showed footage of Minoru Mineta being led to a police cruiser during the fallout following the raids. "Fine Wine as it turns out is former UA student Minoru Mineta, who had been expelled from UA over twenty years ago," the news anchor explained, "No word yet has been given on when Mineta's trial will be, and he is being held without bail. We'll bring more as the story develops."
"They're sensationalizing the whole show," Fuyuki thought worryingly, "Do they even care for the potential harm and damage that they can do to Mineta's family by dragging things out in front of everyone, as if it were on parade?" Looking back down to his breakfast, Fuyuki saw that he had pretty much finished it, all that remained was a small dollop of butter that he had scraped off and put to the side of his plate. He didn't like using butter all that much.
Fuyuki finished what was left of his orange juice and coffee, then left the payment for his meal before getting up to go into the bathroom at the diner. In there, he took out his blue contact lenses, put them away, then made his way out of the diner, no one noticing the small detail that was his change in eye color. When he had stepped out of the diner, the rain that he had been anticipating had finally started falling in full.
"...Now that I think about it, the rain can actually help with the job of washing the spray on hair dye out of my hair..." Fuyuki said quietly to himself. Fuyuki went into an alleyway to be alone, allowed the heavy rainfall to help wash the spray on hair dye out of his hair. He even took out a brush and comb to help speed things along by brushing and combing his hair out. Fuyuki saw streaks of yellow blonde liquid trail down from his head and splatter onto the ground.
After he found someplace to shield him from further rain, he took out a towel in his duffle bag and toweled his head off completely. He then found a nearby antiques store and went into the bathroom to look at the mirror. True enough, Fuyuki's eyes and hair were now back to their true original colors, the same as those that his mother had for her hair and eyes. It was a look that Fuyuki hadn't seen on him since he first abandoned the life that didn't give him a chance.
Well, that life was willing to give him a chance now, but only because his dad and Commissioner Naomasa had done what UA was far too lazy and hasty to do. Fuyuki had little idea of what to think of his family except for his father who he was still wary of regardless. He had little idea of what to think of the many others from the life that he had left behind when he had been wrongly expelled for something that they know knew he didn't do. Even so, there was still that small bit of the son of Deku who held out even a little bit of hope that he could have his old life back.
So it was that Fuyuki, once he confirmed that he was no longer disguised, decided to make his way over to Cop Central, where he would be paying the good commissioner a surprise visit so he could ask him for a favor.
Over at Cop Central, Naomasa was in his office on the top floor, going over papers concerning more of the fallout related to the take down of the criminal empire that Mineta had going for the past decade and a half. The good commissioner was surprised by what all there was here for him to go over, and this all just covered what was recovered from Mineta's primary warehouse hideout the evening of the raid on all of his properties.
Pretty much everyone working at Cop Central was going to have to work overtime for quite some time yet, just to handle the mess of one man.
Naomasa took a sip from his third mug of coffee that morning, resigned to the fact that he was going to be kept occupied for quite some time yet. As he sat his mug down, Naomasa heard a secretary speak from the intercom on his desk, "Commissioner, sir, a sixteen-year-old boy just got into the elevator but the door closed before we could stop him."
The good commissioner perked up at that a bit. "...A sixteen-year-old boy?" Naomasa repeated, "Do you know what floor he's going to?"
"I'm afraid not, sir," the secretary replied, "All I know it that he's drenched from the rain and looks to match the description of Deku's missing so-"
The secretary's voice from the intercom on Naomasa's desk was cut off when the doors leading into Naomasa's office were thrown open. Walking into Naomasa's office, with a resigned but emotionally drained expression on his face, was a drenched Fuyuki Midoriya. "...He just entered my office," Naomasa said, "I'll handle it from here." He then turned off the intercom and moved to close his office doors, not that Fuyuki was going to stop him.
Naomasa was initially relieved that Fuyuki had finally returned from having run away. The good commissioner had no doubt that Fuyuki's parents and other family would also be relieved, but there were still a few things that had to be covered first, mostly the drenched, tired air that was being given off by Fuyuki, which were signs of how the runaway teen now returned was without a doubt emotionally drained and scarred by the ordeal that had been unjustly trusted upon him.
He figured that he had to get this over with. "...So, umm, Fuyuki. Young man. I'm glad to see that you finally come back," Naomasa said, "I guess you finally heard of the news report where your father and I had cleared your name?"
Fuyuki said nothing, simply looked up at Naomasa slightly. "...Yeah, I also caught wind of how it was my classmate Rem who had set me up. I saw it on a news website when I used a local library a short while ago." Naomasa knew that the heroes, fearing for the life of the still-alive Inko Bakugo if they gave her identity to Entreri like he wanted, gave Rem Ojiro who was killed in the siege on UA the blame instead. It goes without saying that Fuyuki, who saw the news clip, would believe what all of Japan was told in that case.
Naomasa let out a troubled, resigned sigh. "...Yeah, that's something your parents will have to talk to you about when I call them here to-"
"Just my father." Naomasa was surprised when Fuyuki had interrupted him. He was also a bit unsettled by the look of sheer venomous anger in Fuyuki's expression. "I...am in no mood for that woman to try to force her way to me right now," the emotionally ravaged teen boy said, "I feel like I might lose my shit and try to attack her on the spot if she tries to push things right at the moment."
The good commissioner had no idea what to say; it was clear that Fuyuki was hurt, was scarred by not only feeling forced out of his life, but by what all untold things he had gone through while he was still missing. Given how emotionally damaged Fuyuki very clearly was at the current time, deliberately acting in a way that would make Fuyuki freak out would undoubtedly make things worse. As such, Naomasa figured that it would be best to respect Fuyuki's wishes and keep Uravity out of this while bringing in only Deku.
...
It wasn't until long when Izuku came bursting through the doors into Naomasa's office over at Cop Central, his son's name being the first thing that he called out. Surprisingly, it was Fuyuki who the number one hero saw first thing upon entering Naomasa's office. Izuku's now found son, the rain that had drenched him drying a little, was standing there, facing the doors while he had his arms folded over his chest.
Izuku couldn't believe it; his son, who had been missing for so long due to being driven away over something that wasn't his fault or doing, had returned at long last. The number one hero was flooded with feelings of relief since he had his son back. But there was far more to Fuyuki being back than him simply coming back home. Due to what had driven him away, as well as what all he must have been through while he had been missing, a simple 'I'm sorry' simply was not going to cut it.
Slowly, Izuku walked up to his son. "...Fuyuki, I-"
"I just want to go home now."
Izuku could hear how his son was tired, was in pain. He could hear the slight trembling in the words that Fuyuki spoke, how Fuyuki's talking suggested he was crying but either there were no more tears or he was simply just too tired. Izuku could never begin to express how sorry he was that Fuyuki had been given such a raw deal. Still, at least Fuyuki was back now, meaning that the whole of the family could begin to make things up to him. Provided, of course, that he was in the mood to hear them out.
And so it was that Izuku, with a gentle nod of understanding, escorted his son out of Cop Central, giving Naomasa a nod of thanks in the process.
When Izuku walked through the front door of the Midoriya household with Fuyuki, the rest of the extended family was in the living room, having expected Izuku to bring Fuyuki since he told them about it. Right away, Ochaco tried to move right towards her son, wanting to make up for what she had done, had contributed, to making Fuyuki feel unloved and driving him into running away from home.
"Fuyuki," Ochaco said as she got close to her son, "I-"
*SLAP*
Everyone stopped short as Fuyuki stopped his mom's advancing towards him cold by slapping her right across the face. Everyone could see the look of blazing fury, of heartbreak, in the face of the teen boy. His breathing was a bit shaky, a clear sign that he was trying to restrain himself from doing anything really serious. After he had been able to calm himself down enough, Fuyuki made his stance towards Ochaco clear by what he said to her.
"...I don't care if you don't trust me." Fuyuki gently shook his head in disappointment. "...Because I don't trust you."
With everyone else too stunned to say anything, without another word Fuyuki turned to head up the stairs and go to his bedroom. After Fuyuki had disappeared up the stairs, Ochaco began to break down in quiet tears. The pro hero Uravity was broken by what her own son had said to her, but she had no one to blame for it but herself. After all, Fuyuki had broken Ochaco because she had broken him.
Inko, feeling a bit pissed at her cousin for making his own mother cry, moved to go confront him up in his room, but Bakugo sensing his daughter's intentions stopped her before she could get away from him. Inko turned around to look at her dad, but he merely offered a gentle shake of his head. "...We can't go and push him right now, sweetie," Bakugo said, "We need to let him take his time here."
Inko wanted to say something, to do something, but she realized that her father was right. Her cousin was hurting right now, hurting because of something that she had done to him. The family had no idea when or how they would break the news to Fuyuki that it was actually Inko who had set him up and gotten him expelled from UA. But that was a bridge that they would get over when they get to it.
For now, they simply had to be happy that Fuyuki was now back home.
END, CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
Author's notes;
And with this chapter, Fuyuki is finally back home. But only physically speaking; emotionally speaking, he's still far away. His family, both immediate and extended, are going to be working hard to make things up to him, to show them that they're sorry and that they love him. But that may be easier said than done, especially considering how in some cases, cockroaches can still survive for a while after their heads are cut off.
You'll see what I mean over the coming chapters.
