When they return, Nagi makes a beeline to her house to change in some civilian wear and then to the hospital, meeting Izumi halfway.

"Being a kunoichi makes you really busy, huh, we haven't seen you in days."

"Sorry."

Izumj turns to her, waving her hand, "It's not that. We understand. I'm just wondering, once me and Hana also become ninja, us three won't be able to see each other often."

"... Yeah. Maybe." Though it has been years since the official end of the third shinobi war, there's still the aftermath and leftover scuffles to deal with.

And with the Kyuubi, there are not enough shinobi graduating from the academy to catch up with the ones who never return.

It's busy.

Konoha likely won't recover until a few years. Probably just on time for canon.

"Then, if we can, we have to schedule times we can hang out. At least once a month, right. Since we'll have our pay, let's go shopping and restaurant hopping. We can even go with our future teammates, but it'd be nice if it's just us three."

Nagi smiles, "Yeah. That'd be nice. Who do you think will be your teammates, Izumi?"

She hum in contemplation, then beam at the younger girl as she step aside to allow an elder woman pass, "I have no idea, but I hope they're nice."

They get to the hospital and Izumi leads her to where Hana takes her breaks between classes.

Her Byakugan has already been activated behind her curtain of hair. There is only a chakra spike when a technique is started, but after that, the chakra is just cycling as it usually will, only taking into account the additional tunnels or the new vessel.

Grey hair and glasses, grey hair and glasses, grey hair and glasses-

There are more grey haired boys than she'd thought, and even more bespectacled pre-teens. She takes into account his skill in infiltration and looks into all color haired boys and girls.

Three stand out and she locks on to them.

"Hana!" Izumi waves the Inuzuka over.

"Izumi! And Nagi too! How was your mission?"

Nagi smiles, "It was fine. How about you? Have you made friends with your classmates?"

"Huh?" She blink.

Oh, is that too direct?

"Yeah, I guess. But you guys are still my best friends so you don't need to worry." Hana grins.

"What? Friends? Why haven't you introduced them to me yet?" Izumi pouts, shocked at the perceived hidden affair.

Hans scratch her head sheepishly, "Oh, well, you never asked."

Izumi peer over her shoulder, examining all the students enjoying their break, "Are they here? Where are they? Is it a boy? Is he cute?"

"Wha-?!" Hana flush, "Stupid! He's not! He's just Kabuto.!"

Would you look at her luck.

Nagi suppress the instinctive frown and worry for her friend. Root agents won't just make friends randomly.

They have a reason for each action.

Danzo has a reason for every action his agents take.

"Hey, Kabuto! Come here! Meet my friends!" Hana hollers at someone behind them. Izumi turns and Nagi stays as is.

A silver haired boy in round glasses on the plain side -Nagi was thinking too much, it seems- with his back to them flinch at the call.

Then runs.

Or, attempts a power walk away.

... Oh.

Danzo doesn't have a reason.

It's just Hana.

"Hey!" Hana practically tackles the poor scrawny boy. He's shorter than Hana, as all boys are at their age.

"Inuzuka-san, please let me go. I have things to do."

"Yeah? Like what?"

Kabuto bristles, "Studying, as I hope you are also doing."

"Yeah I do, but not always. Cause then my mind goes brrrr when I only read, and read, and read. So I have to relax a bit so that when I go back, I can see the words again."

"Good for you, now let me go so I can study." Kabuto struggles futiley from within the Inuzuka heiress' arms.

They approach the arguing pair.

"Sure, sure, I'll let you go. Just meet my friends."

"I heard what you said! We're not friends, so let go!"

"Hi Kabuto-san!" Izumi comes to his rescue, "Hana, don't be so rough, let him go."

Hana harrumphs and release him.

The aspiring healers glare at each other, Hana sticking out her tongue at him.

"Hello Kabuto-san, I am Hyuuga Nagi."

"And I'm Uchiha Izumi."

Kabuto blink at them curiously, "I see. I am Yakushi Kabuto, not Hana's friend."

Nagi nods and Izumi just smiles.

"We're going out to eat, wanna hang with us?" Izumi says.

"No."

"Are you sure? It's my treat today." Nagi pipes up.

Hana lights up, "Yes!"

Kabuto looks at them strangely, "What? You're going to have a kid treat you. Have some shame Inuzuka."

Izumi rest a hand on his shoulder, "Nagi may look like that, but she's already a genin, you know."

And even with the tax cut for her clan, she still has some saved enough for one eat out. She hasn't touched it except for buying gifts for the others.

Sensei promised her to get a reservation on a crafter he knows for three sets of good quality weights. By the time it's ready to be picked up, she'll have the right amount to pay for it.

"She's still a kid." He deadpans.

"Take it or leave it, then!"

What is Kabuto's favourite food?

She has no idea.

"I'll leave it."

Nagi's shoulders drop. Izumi sees and frowns at her.

... All Shisui did say was to identify him, Nagi doesn't need to do more.

But as she already knows, this knowledge is both a blessing and a curse in certain situations.

Nagi wants to help him. She doesn't want a son to kill a mother.

That's just... messed up.

"Hey! Look at you! You made Nagi sad!" Hana snarls, grabbing his shirt.

Huh?

"What?" Kabuto exclaims, alarmed.

"You idiot!" Hana drags him away and huddle her face close to his, voice in a level that Nagi can't hear but- well, even with their backs to her, she can read lips, "It's her first time treating us! Nagi is a shinobi now, a grown-up, she has her own money and she wants to treat her friends."

...oh. Is that how it seemed to them? She wanted to feel like an adult and made the offer.

Nagi feels embarrassed but... if you think about it, are they wrong?

At the heart of it, she wants to at least try and fix the things wrong in the world and it's not really something a child should be doing.

Her head hangs.

"How is that my problem?!"

"Cause I said you were my friend!"

"What does that- you know what, fine. I'll go with you."

Nagi almost expects him to finish that with a 'troublesome woman'.
