CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
The Young Volcano : Big enough?
AN: There is more coming, I know this is quiet slow to get going and there is a lot of detail involved but that's why the chapters are short and two updates posted a week. I was trying to get to a point my Christmas but it's not quiet going to happen...
Dragging Donna to a stop at the door while Mandy locks the house again we are back in the car quickly. After dropping Mandy off back at her office and letting her know I'll ring her tomorrow Donna tells me I have to go to the clubhouse.
Shrugging but figuring out she has a good reason I turn in that direction. Pulling into the driveway a while later I'm realising something has happened. All the Redwood Sons bikes are there, but the only Sons I see are Jax and Opie.
As soon as I pull into the lot and park Jax is at my door pulling me out and towards the clubhouse. I stop walking feeling my arm pull as he tries to keep going, "What is going on?"
Jax looks at me, shakes his head and tries to get me to move again. "Jax, I'm not moving a muscle till you tell me what the fuck is going on here!"
He doesn't say a word to me, but he bends over and before I realise what's happening I've been thrown over his shoulder and he's carrying me into the clubhouse. I furiously hit his back and squirm trying to get him to put me down, but as we walk through the door he slaps me hard on the ass and says "Stop it or I'll drop you on your head."
I'm a little stunned and immediately stop moving. Seconds later he's shoving open the doors to Church and dropping me in his chair.
Looking round the room I don't like the looks on any of their faces, especially Jax, Clay and Opie.
A glass appears in front of me as Piney steps past to his seat. He doesn't look at me but barks "Drink that."
I pick it up, give it a sniff and when my brain realises its vodka and it's barely 11am I know my expression melts to horror.
"What happened?" I ask again,
No one says a word, but I notice that there is still a seat empty and figure that when it's full maybe I'll get some sort of explanation.
I sit in Jax's chair swirling the drink in my glass but not bringing it to my mouth, I'm tempted to ask Jax for a smoke just as Juice comes in the door, a small tape recorder in his hand.
He settles himself in his chair, passes the recorder to Clay and grins at me in the way I've realised he has.
I manage a half smile before I look at Clay. "Clay, please, what's going on?"
"We had a message left on the machine last night and a phone call earlier today." he says motioning towards the small silver object on the table.
"Okay and this affects me ho...It was Craig wasn't it?" I ask. Part of me hopes I'm wrong and it's something else, but I know I wouldn't be sitting here if it was something else.
Clay nods and lifts the recorder. "Juice has a program running now that records all the garage calls and keeps them for a week, or until we get rid of them, whichever comes first."
He holds his finger over the button and says, "The message isn't bad okay."
I nod and he presses the button gently.
I hear Craig's voice come out of the box. "Hi, umm my names Craig Turner and I'm trying to find my car. My girlfriend took off with it a while ago and I've been ringing all the garages in California trying to see if they've seen it. It's a 2013 Dodge Challenger, its bright blue with twin white racing stripes and the registration plate is SP33D. If you see it, or Sarah, my girlfriend, can you please let her know that I'm worried about her? You can contact me at the Knights Inn in Stockton. I'm in room 5."
The tape player clicks off. "So obviously we haven't rung him and let him know it's here, but you're not going to be able to drive either of your vehicles till we have dealt with him, they're too recognisable."
I nod. "He rang again?" I don't want to say much yet, not till I know how much Craig knows.
"He did, he didn't know we were recording this though, he got Gemma. Obviously this guy knows who she is." Clay sounds worried, and I'm not sure if its cause my ex knows his wife's name, or if it's concern for me.
He presses the button again.
"Welcome to Teller-Morrow." Gemma sounds polite and busy, but I know she probably is.
"Where is my whore?" Craig's voice is not the gentle tone it was on the message.
"I'm sorry?" Gemma sounds confused now.
"I said, where is my whore, her name is Sarah. She ran back to your inbred brainless nowhere town."
"I'm sorry; I think you might have the wrong number. We're a garage. We fix cars." Gemma has obviously realised who it is and her voice has become slightly icy.
"Never mind, I'll find her. After all, she's mine, and it's not like she can hide from me for long."
"Look, I'm can see that you're looking for someone named Sarah, I'm sorry we don't have anyone by that name here but if she's missing maybe you should ring the police and file a missing persons report."
"Look, Gemma, I know that she ran back there, I know that my little whore is probably hiding somewhere there with you, or Clay or any one of the other biker bozos that you hang around with. When you see her next tell her I'm here for her, and she will be coming back to New York with me, either whole or in pieces. It's up to her, but either way I will find her."
There's a loud noise and then all I hear is the dial tone again.
I think about my car, currently sitting plain as day in the Winston's driveway and wonder how much shit will end up over their heads if Craig has been driving round and seen it parked there, or if he's seen my 4x4, that could be just as much trouble descending on innocent heads
The drink in my hand doesn't seem so ridiculous now and I knock it back in one mouthful.
Jax pulls the glass from my hand and drops it on the table, crouching down beside me he looks me in the eye and says, "You're staying with Opie, he's going to protect you. But until we deal with that pile of fertiliser you will also have at least one other Son around at all times. Do you hear me?"
I nod, the vodka in my blood stream has calmed my nerves a little, but I know it won't get any better till he's gone.
Jax pulls me to my feet and I stumble a little, he wraps his arms round my shoulders and pulls me close, feeling his holster against my back I have a sudden memory flash.
Pulling back from him a bit I look at Chibs, "Do you still have the keys to my storage unit? I need to get in there."
Chibs pats his pockets and pulls out the key's he's had since yesterday, chucking them at me Opie's had shoots up and grabs them before I can.
Opie climbs to his feet, looks at Jax, "Let's take her over there and be back by lunch aye?"
I know it's not really a question, and I'm grateful that they're both so willing to protect me.
"Ope, before we go we need to make sure that Donna knows what's going on. It's her house too, and it's her kids! I can't stay there, what if he shows up and hurts them. Please, just let me go somewhere else, I'll sleep in the car here, but I can't risk Ellie and Kenny." The words burst forward, I've only just realised that the lives of the twins are at risk as well, I am pretty sure that Craig wouldn't see the 4 year olds as anything more than annoyances but I can't risk it.
Jax pushes my shoulders and I end up plonked down back in his seat while Opie goes out to get Donna from the office.
