POKEMON: LET'S GO
Episode 32: The Lightning Lt. Surge
"Our heroes were able to save themselves, as well as everyone else, from the hijacking of S. S. Anne by Team Rocket. Today is more interesting than yesterday, because today Chase will confront Lt. Surge for his third Gym Badge."
At the Pokemon Center, Nurse Joy tells Elaine that her Egg is healthy and will hatch soon. She becomes excited to hear this, not being able to wait to see it hatching. Riley comes to her and asks about Chase. Nurse Joy informs them that he is in the backyard since early morning. The duo goes to the backyard to find Chase instructing Charmander, Nidoran and Pikachu to be calm and resolute in the battle against Surge.
Riley is surprised to find that the above three Pokemon constitute his team against Surge. He again asks Chase to use Bulbasaur as it will be effective against Electric types, but Chase declines the suggestion.
The trio soon reach the Gym. As they enter, multiple Magnemite welcome them using Thundershock to create beautiful patterns in the air. Surge greets them and tells them that it is a tradition of the Gym to welcome the challengers. Surge leads them to the battlefield. Cahse and Surge take their place, opposite to each other as Elaine and Riley move to the stands. The referee announces the rules – three on three battle and the challenger can switch Pokemon while the Gym Leader can't. Surge sends out Jolteon as his first Pokemon. Elaine scans her Pokedex to learn about it. Chase sends out his Nidoran for the first round. Surge has Jolteon use Thundershock and Nidoran counters with Poison Sting. Chase asks Nidoran to go near Jolteon. Jolteon uses Pin Missile to block Nidoran, but Nidoran is able to dodge the attack. Nidoran goes for a Horn Attack, but Jolteon uses Flash, blinding Nidoran for a while. Taking advantage, Jolteon uses Pin Missile, landing a critical hit. Nidoran quickly regains his composure and uses Double Team. Surge confidently tells Jolteon to use Pin Missile all over the ground, hitting all the copies. The real Nidoran is forced to dodge it and reveal itself. Jolteon uses Thundershock, but Nidoran dodges quickly and uses Poison Sting landing a critical hit. As Jolteon tries to stand back, Nidoran plunges into it with a Horn Attack that is enough to defeat it.
Surge is impressed by Chase's tactics and sends out Magneton. Chase scans his Pokedex to learn that it is a Electric/Steel type. Riley calls it a smart move as Poison type moves don't affect Steel type Pokemon. However, ignoring the fact, Chase commands for Poison Sting. Magneton takes the hit and emerges unaffected. It uses a strong Spark attack and defeats Nidoran.
Chase then calls out Charmander, who has a double advantage against the Electric/Steel type Pokemon. However, Surge claims to have some tricks to counter it. Charmander begins with Flamethrower. Magneton easily dodges it and uses Thunder Wave to paralyze Charmander. Magneton attacks with a streak of Sonicboom attacks. Charmander dodges the first few, then its paralysis takes over and it takes multiple straight hits. Magneton attempts Spark, but Charmander dodges and hits it with Scratch, that is found to be almost useless against its metal body. Magneton comes for another Spark, but Charmander uses Smokescreen to get some cover. Magneton uses Sonicboom blindly through the smoke, trying to hit Charmander. However, Charmander connects his Flamethrower and is able to put a burn on it. Charmander uses Flamethrower and Magneton uses Sonicboom. Both the moves connect and both Pokemon fall down, ending the round in a draw.
Finally, both the trainers are down to their last Pokemon. They decide finish the battle they started on S. S. Anne. Pikachu and Raichu step forward themselves. Elaine worries that Raichu us indeed a very strong opponent.
Chase decides to start off with a Thinderbolt, that Raichu takes head on but it does negligible damage. Pikachu rushes closer to Raichu with Quick Attack and tries Iron Tail. Raichu swiftly dodges it and hits Pikachu with Mega Punch. Surge calls for a Thunderbolt that seems to be way powerful than Pikachu's one. Pikachu is hit and Chase is amazed to watch it. As Pikachu manages to get back on his feet, Raichu lands a direct hit with Slam. Pikachu tries to make a distance from Raichu, but Raichu grabs him using his tail and tosses him up in the air. Raichu jumps for a Mega Punch, but Pikachu quickly delivers an Iron Tail, connecting his first impactful move. Surge is impressed by the move. Chase realises that Raichu won't be affected much by Thunderbolt and decides to go with a hard-hitting strategy.
Chase tells Pikachu not to move. Raichu uses Thunderbolt and Pikachu tries to counter it with his own. But, the difference in strength causes Pikachu's move to fail and Pikachu is hit. However, he doesn't move. Seeing Pikachu not moving, Surge commands for Slam. As Raichu jumps for Slam, Chase gets his chance and Pikachu jumps towards him, landing a critical hit with Iron Tail. Riley decides Chase's strategy, realising that Raichu becomes vulnerable in air.
Raichu uses Thunderbolt, but Pikachu uses Quick Attack to dodge it and get near Raichu. Raichu uses Mega Punch, but Pikachu blocks it with Iron Tail, before delivering a close range Thunderbolt. Surge commands for Mega Punch, not wanting Raichu to leave the ground. Chase tells Pikachu to use Iron Tail on the ground below Raichu. Pikachu does so and his tail gets embedded in the ground. Raichu connects its move, but Pikachu uses all his strength to toss Raichu up in the air, using his tail as a lever. Pikachu connects a powerful Thunderbolt on Raichu, landing another critical hit. Raichu tries to get up, but collapses. Chase is declared the winner before Pikachu collapses too. Chase goes and picks up Pikachu as Raichu is called back by Surge.
Surge approaches Chase and congratulates him for the victory. He praises Pikachu for his tenacity and Chase for his ability to change his strategies so swiftly. He presents Chase with a Thunder Badge, which he gladly accepts.
Later, Nurse Joy returns Chase his fully healed Pokemon. Chase shows them the Thunder Badge before placing it in his BadgeCase. All of his Pokemon hug him to celebrate their victory.
