Stepping into the line of fire
Chapter 32
Dean felt invincible. Angela was experiencing a feeling of reassurance and blissful satedness. John was happy that Dean's mind seemed totally focused on the hunt. Bobby and Sam did not feel so jubilant though as John had given them the job of sorting out the stones and spells and check that all was good with the huge bottles of holy water. Sam began to whinge.
"Bobby, why is it that it's us who have to do all the work while Dean and Ange spoon."
"Are they?"
"Yeah. Of course, they are. They disappear any chance they get. They have got it down to a fine art. Dean is not wasting any time making the best of any opportunity to bond with his Ange'! That's for sure" he quipped sarcastically. "Those two should win a prize for getting one over on the ol' man on repeated occasions! Dean'll get caught that's for sure. I know he'll fight that balrog with a sore ass. I'm not a psychic but I know one thing for sure. Dad's got a sixth sense. Dean's a goner and he'll ream into Angela something rotten. They're asking for it so I won't feel sad for them. Stupid douchebag" he added angrily. "I could really hit Dean at times, he's such a dickwad! Gals are always his downfall and I don't want him dying because he's not focused…what shall I do Bobby?" he almost begged.
"Ya' brother knows what's he doing' Sam. Those two are the pivotal key to our success. He'll come through in the end don't ya' worry boy'. Go on let's get this shit organised."
As soon as Dean had recovered from his close call, he started to get his act together and went to sort out the ammunition. Meanwhile Angela was gathering all she needed to help with wounds. She had told Dean that she would deal with the food and drink that the hunters would need to keep their energy levels up.
John was sitting down on his allocated log. He seemed to have adopted it. It was like a forest throne and no other hunter dared sit on it's hallowed vibe. John was thinking…Ugoliant would not go quietly into the night, he would put up an almighty fight. His troop was ready. They had an advantage in more ways than one. Something however was niggling at him. Something was not quite right. He was worrying, which was unusual for a hunter of his quality. It revolved around his eldest. Dean was getting very involved with his "sweetie" as she called him and it pissed him off. Would he do something stupid to protect her and not focus on the balrog? He felt perturbed. Angela was a pretty little' thing but she had strength. He recognised within himself that his darling Mary had had that spirit. He understood his eldest. Jesus, he knew how warm and enveloping a good woman could feel under a man. He recognised in his heart a tiny bit of jealousy. He must not let that guide his actions, he thought. My son has a right to feel happiness like I did before Mary died. So horribly. So unfairly. Suddenly a form of urgent anger took him over and he clenched his fists with rage. This Ugoliant was going to suffer. He was going to agonise before he was wiped out forever. John stood up.
At the far side of the storage area. Dean and Angela were kissing. He stopped to watch. His son had his arms around her and their bodies were almost melting into one. He could feel the passion. He could smell the desire that they had for each other. He felt like a voyeur and was, to his surprise, a little bit embarrassed. Should he pretend not to have seen this disallowed tryst? …to hell no!... John walked towards them slowly, like a prowling wolf.
"And what do you fucking think ya're doing?" he addressed them both.
Dean turned towards him but did not jump.
"What d'ya think we're doing sir?"
"Excuse me?"
"What d'ya think we're doing dad?" Dean repeated boldly.
John saw red. He grabbed hold of Dean's right arm and sort of jerked him towards him so he could look into his face. Real close.
"I told ya' to keep your head on the game son and you keep disobeying. You and I are going to have another talk." He turned to Angela and spit out furiously. "You are responsible for this."
Angela gulped but looked at him straight in the eye. "No Sir. We are both responsible for this. Dean and I. If you're going to whip' him, whip me too."
John threw her a vicious look but took a moment to think about her comment.
"Ok. You miss, you are in trouble. I think I need to remind you both who's in charge here. Follow me."
Angela who did not want Dean to go alone followed her lover and she knew that she was about to taste what disobeying a direct order could be like. She shuddered at the thought but knew that the order of things had to be restored for the hunt to proceed. She understood what her sweetie had told her all along. You do not mess with John Winchester. You follow orders or pay the price.
