I do not own Hetalia okay? Just seeing how you guys like this really makes me smile. Anyway, I don't have much else to say, so enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Matthew took Katyusha to their house, the one they had picked and was just waiting for the legal paperwork to be finished but they were assured the house was theirs. It was something she had wanted to see since they began hunting for the house and see what she had seen from only from the pictures and video tour that Natalya had arranged. "It's just as wonderful as you and Natalya had made it out to seem." Katyusha had run into the kitchen and looked out the back patio door and at the large yard. "Our daughter will love this."
"That's what Al said. It seems big enough and he wants to build a swing set here and one for the kid he and Ivan and going to adopt." Matthew said.
"And there's plenty of space for a garden too." Katyusha said looking at the backyard.
"So you will be the one buying the fertilizer than ringing it out when you shouldn't be." Matthew said kissing her.
"And the house will be ours as soon as the planting season begins." Katyusha smiled.
"Wouldn't that count as strenuous work?" Matthew smiled as Katyusha sighed.
"Possibly." Katyusha admitted. "But if I got some pots…. I mean there is a few boxes on the porch there…."
"I guess. I can get you some starter plants if the baby isn't born yet." Matthew said. "I swear you're acting a lot like Al with things…"
"Maybe, but I am so excited that we have our own house and family. It just makes everything feel, well, right." Katyusha smiled.
She had worked hard for years, forsaking what would have been normal milestones for a young woman who had just graduated high school and starting college. Even if it was just the community college route, one that she had regret herself because she thought others would think she was dumb that way, proving what they mocked her with. That was for her younger siblings to make sure they had the future their parents and great uncle had wanted for them. After all the trouble they had when he died and the hard work she put in to make sure they had what they did. She started to smile and tears came to her eyes. "You deserve this." Matthew said as he headed back to the car with her hand in his. "You took such good care of Ivan and Natalya and gave so much. You have a big heart and it's time that you were able to live that comfortable life you made sure that your siblings do." He pulled her closed and kissed her. "I'm sorry you had it rough before but it's going to be so much better from now on. I love you."
Katyusha blushed as Matthew started the car to take her back home and get ready for work. "Ya lyublyu tebe, miy krasyvyy klenovyy lyst" She said.
Matthew smiled and knowing how much she liked hearing his French, despite Francis's accusations of the accent being off, "Je t'aime aussi ma belle femme intelligente. Tu es tout pour moi." He didn't know a lot of Ukrainian, but he did know the basic 'I love yous' like Katyusha was with French. They pulled into the driveway and sighed. "Seems like Ivan and Al are home."
"I hope he was able to have that cast remo-!" Katyusha said as Alfred ran up and hugged her. "Oh! Hello Fredka…."
"Hello Katy!" Alfred smiled widely.
"I see you had your cast removed." Katyusha smiled noticing the leg and his big hug.
"Yep." Alfred said proudly, standing his now uncast leg on the recliner to show it off. "I didn't mean to bother you though." He said, sensing Ivan's stare to him running up and hugging Katyusha despite him repeating that she was in a family way. "I thought it was Mattie coming through the door first."
"Calm down Fredka…." Ivan sighed. "I have told you about her delikatnoye sostoyaniye. You should know it very well."
"Well Vanya, you will be happy to know that I am not in such a delicate state." Katyusha said proudly. Ivan looked at her curiously. "While I am not to do heavy work, I am off of bedrest. I cannot lift over 10 pounds and need to find light exercise to do, but I can resume life pretty much as normal."
"Good to hear." Ivan said. "Fredka is supposed to ease back into his routine if he doesn't want to make his injury worse."
"Hey Al, Hey Ivan." Matthew said as he headed to his bedroom to change for work. "So I take it Katy told you everything and judging by Al's energy, he's had that cast removed."
"Yep. By Antonio's brother none the less…." Alfred said.
"Antonio?" Matthew said. "Why does that sound familiar?"
"Papa's friend. The one who made our bachelor parties memorable…." Alfred moaned as Ivan looked at him cockeyed. "Nothing other than giving me gastric distress on the big day!"
"Oh. Them." Matthew said. "Although I can't say too much about Gilbert. He's my boss…"
As Matthew walked away, Ivan stretched and kissed Alfred, "I have to finish some things for work Fredka. Ya lyublyu tebya"
"Love ya too big guy." Alfred smiled.
Once Ivan shut the door to his office, Katyusha looked over at Alfred. "Uhhhhhh Fredka do you have plans for Valentine's Day with Vanya?"
Alfred jumped up in surprise, why would she be asking about that. "Haven't thought of it too much yet. I have to find something but I don't have anything in mind…. Not like I can forget about your brother or would brush him off like that Katy!"
"Well I ask you because I would like to go shopping for Matvey and I now know you are thinking of Vanya's interests as well." Katyusha said. "It's nothing to be ashamed of,"
"Fine you read me like a book." Alfred sighed.
"So I was thinking we could go to the store, you drive me and I can get Matvey's present and you can get Vanya's as well. I will want to take him to that new pancake house."
"Or I could take Vanya somewhere and leave you the house." Alfred smiled when Katyusha looked at him crossly. "Sorry…."
"I will do more cooking now that I am not confined to the bedroom. I know my little girl is better for it but that does not mean it is not pleasant." Katyusha said sternly. "I would like to get out of the house every now and again."
"I can do that for you as long as you don't make me try anything on again." Alfred moaned.
"Trust me, that part of Valentine's we cannot do until 6 weeks after the baby is born. Doctor's orders." Katyusha said.
"Okay. Thanks for sharing…" Alfred said weirded out. "Where you going?" he asked as she got up and headed to get her jacket.
"You don't have anything due soon like Vanya does, do you?" She said.
"No but…." Alfred said as Katyusha threw him his coat and the car keys and headed up to Ivan's office.
"Vanya…." She said knocking on the door.
"What?" Ivan yelled opening the door to find Katyusha standing there. "Oh hello there big sister." Ivan apologized.
"Well I am having Fredka take me to the store to get a few things. Just thought I would let you know." She replied quickly.
"You should still take it easy. Both of you." Ivan said sternly looking over her shoulder and seeing Alfred.
"We will." Katyusha assured him. "I just want to get something nice for Matvey for valentines and I am tired of being in this house. Besides I cannot lift over 10 pounds by doctor's orders and Fredka is so strong."
"Fine." Ivan sighed. "But I need to really get to work on this."
"Have fun and work hard." Katyusha said as she waved him off and he shut the door behind him.
"I will." He said as the door shut and his phone rang. "What now?" He said as he answered the phone.
At this, Katyusha met up with Alfred who was standing by the doorway waiting for her. "So I won't have to try stuff on this time?"
"No, more like go to the grocery store." Katyusha said. "I plan to home make my candies and need some things."
"I'm not good enough for that…." Alfred blushed.
The rest of the day was spent with Katyusha directing him around the supermarket as she made the purchases she needed for making the candies and their regular grocery shopping. Alfred could tell that he still needed to work on his right leg to get it back to full strength and could not flake on the physical therapy appointments the doctor had prescribed. Once they made their way towards the floral section, he was able to sneak way from Katyusha who was looking at some of the produce and get the sunflower bouquet he usually got Ivan ordered. After talking to the clerk, he turned around to find that Katyusha was ready so they finished checking out and headed back to the house where Ivan had started dinner already.
"Oh sister!" Ivan said as she walked in and sat on the couch and changed the channel to the local news station.
"I wanted to make sure we got home in time." Katyusha smiled as Ivan nodded. He knew that she loved watching the news if for nothing else than Matthew. Alfred walked in and carried the bags into the kitchen.
"Your sister is a beast while shopping. I think there's something with girls in your family Vanya…." Alfred sighed placing the bags down. "There's more in the car." He said.
"I'll help you." He added and followed after Alfred. "Oh I got a call from the adoption agency. They want to meet us tomorrow. Discuss something with us."
"Oh god…." Alfred said. "I hope it's not bad."
"Well the case worker did not sound like it was." Ivan assured him. "But I am making your favorite tonight and I made plans at your favorite burger place for Valentines. I mean it is your favorite."
"Then I have to do something of your favorite then too." Alfred said.
"Oh I think you know…." Ivan smiled mischievously.
"But you're going to have to wait until then." Alfred teased back. "It's only a few days away."
The next day Alfred woke up early and made himself a strong cup of coffee. He had hardly slept because of what Ivan told him about the call. It didn't sound bad but Alfred wasn't on there and he had to take Ivan's word for it. He was only able to eat a pop tart and Ivan had spent most of the morning reassuring him it was nothing bad. They arrived and headed inside of the adoption agency where they were shown to the chairs in front of the caseworker.
Alfred and Ivan sat at the desk of the adoption agency nervously. They had wanted to the final process soon after Matthew and Katyusha had bought their house and started moving in, wanting to make sure that the child would have a stable home to stay in because they knew it would be a very rough time for them to make that adjustment, but the timing of this was close enough as they decided they could make things work. The case worker walked in with a few files. "Okay sirs, I have been looking through our cases and working with your backstories to find a match. Alfred, where you and your brother were adopted in a similar situation yourselves and Ivan, your whole story of coming to this country, you both want to give what you got to someone who doesn't. Well while due to certain laws and regulations international adoption for cases like yours is allowed, sorry Ivan," She said knowing that Ivan had wanted to adopt a child from Russia to give them the chances he had, "We did find some way to work that in the case. And Alfred, well you were like a kid about to adopt a puppy who couldn't decide between a boy and girl. Not to put children like animals." She held out a picture of a boy and a girl one who had dark brown hair and the other was reddish brown. "This is Nikita and Dimitri." She said. "Normally we don't like to separate siblings but they hate being apart and if they don't find a set of parents soon, they will have to be split up as many foster parents won't take more than one child."
"There's a girl and a boy." Ivan said confused. "Nikita is usually a boy's name."
"The girl is named Nikita. Don't have why they were named as such, just that their birth mother was involved with a Russian immigrant. Their mother has had her parental rights terminated by the courts and their biological father was killed in a gang related shooting in Boston a few months ago." Alfred and Ivan looked at her in surprise at how casually she said it. "It turns out he had connections to the Russian Bratvia mafia, low level don't worry! I am sure they would not mind you raising his children and the mother, well there's a lot of things she likes in this world more than those kids. That's what I am leaving it with. They are in the foster care system now as a ward of the state. But they would want a good set of parents. And frankly they just seemed to match with you two well. So," She paused as Ivan and Alfred looked at the picture of the toddlers. "You're already approved and I am aware of how much this sounds like a sales pitch but on your go ahead we can start the process and get the dates to make everything official, last names and everything."
Ivan sighed and looked at the picture to Alfred. At least she admits how much that sounds like car sale or pet adoption…. This was the decision that would change their lives. Those two kids had such a rough start to life so young and Ivan had seen what had happened to some of the older children growing up and what they had gotten themselves into. "I don't want to see these two split up. It's a twin thing, even if it is fraternal." Alfred said.
"Da." Ivan nodded. "Are you ready for this though Fredka?"
"Well there wasn't 9 months of them kicking your guts or puking at all hours of the day or anything that Katy was complaining of." Alfred sighed.
"And why do you think I'd be the one carrying?" Ivan said as the case worker looked on confused. "But seriously."
"Seriously." Alfred said.
"If you think so, then I do as well." Ivan said.
"Perfect. Nikita and Dimitri will be transferred from their current foster home to yours in six weeks when we have the papers done and the final court hearing to make it official.
"Good. Got a few weeks to finish making the rooms for them." Alfred said relieved.
"Here is the address and phone number of their current foster parents so you can contact them. We encourage that you meet with them before they move into your home permanently so they can get used to you and be ready."
"Will do." Alfred said as he took the note and headed out of the office with Ivan.
"So, kids of our own. Two we have to get their rooms ready for." Alfred said.
"And Matvey and Katyusha asked us to help then with their daughter's room." Ivan sighed. They had been asked to help move them in once the home sale was finalized and to help them furnish the room.
"And turn the guest rooms into Nikita and Dimitri's…." Alfred said when they got in his car and Ivan hugged him. "What was that about?"
"Already talking like they are here. So endearing…." Ivan smiled.
Alfred felt so much better when they had gotten home that he burst through the door and yelled "It's a boy and a girl!"
"Huh?" Matthew asked.
"We've been paired up with a set of fraternal twins." Ivan explained. "They will be moved into the house in six weeks. Not to sound rude but will you have moved out by then?"
"I was going to ask you about what you are doing Sunday…" Matthew looked to Katyusha who nodded.
"Why?" Ivan asked as he sat down in his favorite chair and Alfred sat between Matthew and Katyusha.
"See, this is them, Nikita and Dimitri. Nikita is the girl before you say anything." Alfred said.
"Nikita is typically a boy's name." Katyusha said.
"That's what I said, but that's what their mother named them. But what do you need on Sunday?" Ivan asked.
"The house is official Katy and mine's." Matthew smiled. Sale closed and we signed our documents while you were out. So we need some help moving in and setting up."
"Sure bro!" Alfred said. "If you help us set up the kid's rooms."
"I guess I am not going to have a say otherwise huh?" Matthew said.
"No." Ivan said.
"I have got to tell Dad and Papa." Alfred smiled. "And about the house." Matthew, who wanted to tell their dad in a more private way ran after Alfred who ran into the bathroom and locked the door.
"'Ello! Alfred my boy, it has been awhile." Francis said as he answered the phone. " What did you want to call me about at this hour?"
"It's official." Alfred said. "Mattie got the house all in his and Katy's name and Ivan and I are getting two kids, a boy and a girl and they'll be moving in in about 6 weeks. I'm just so excited. I want to tell everyone! Where's Dad?"
"He's at work. I will tell him though do not worry my boy. That is great news but I must get ready for my job. Au revior!" He said hanging up and a smirk came across his face. He pulled up Antonio and Gilbert's numbers. Hehhehe we have been planning this for a while. Gilbert can tell me when Mathieu is working. "Boys, operation baby warming shower is a go. Our parties are the best. Just please keep it family friendly."
"What's going on?" Antonio text back.
"Alfred is adopting, Mathieu got a house and a girl on the way you idiot, where have you been?" Francis text back.
"I can pull something on Sunday. Distract him with some lie for a few hours and then when he comes back get them to come to his place. We will need an inside man." Gilbert text back.
"I will see if Ivan or Natalya will be." Francis said.
"You'd get a better response with Ivy if what you told me about his sister was true." Gilbert said.
"Sunday's too soon." Antonio said. "Alfonse is coming over; the one day he has off…."
"Fine! We'll get this together." Francis sent back.
"You're on food though." Gilbert replied.
"Of course. Now let's get this planned." Francis smirked as he headed into the kitchen at the restaurant he worked to start his shift.
