A/N: since I think that I was grasping at straws on Game of Life, I decided to document the supposed events that can support this pairing.
Chapter 3: Life with you, but without you [part 10]
Rukia felt like dying as she walks towards Byakuya's quarters.
Dread…
Despite the day being generally good at her new division, with the people there and the work.
Ultimately, she had failed.
Rukia took a deep sigh, and knocked on her adoptive brothers door.
"Enter" Byakuya answered while seating behind his table, his back towards Rukia, whose riatsu fluctuations reveals her trepidation.
At this, Byakuya felt a little lost. Because this afternoon, as he sent her to her new squad for her first duty, he had seen her light up in the company of Shiba, even just a little.
He could not help but feel jealous, though he will never admit it, that it caused him to compare her attitudes in his house and at the barracks of 13th.
Because in their house, Rukia is just cold. Closed off.
It really seemed that she does not want to be in his company.
At this Byakuya flexed his jaw subtly. For he really does not know, how to deal with her.
It seems that she really like people like Kaien. Brass, unmannered, and who neglects propriety.
And he knew for a fact that he and Kaien are opposite type of people.
This puts him in a disadvantage..
"How was your day?" Byakuya asked, without revealing any emotions, much less his insecurities.
His words comes out mechanical and uncaring.
"I had successfully joined the 13th division, Nii-sama" Rukia answered with as much dignity, trying to be a proud Kuchiki.
Byakuya just nodded his head. Of course he already knew this, for his the one who personally made sure that she were to be assigned to the least dangerous division in the Gotei 13.
Though her performance at the examination, made him really proud, he never let it cloud his judgment. His goal to keep her safe. To protect her at all cost.
If it were not for her passion to become shinigami, he would have kept her inside the house, and let no man see her. Except for him.
To keep her exclusively for himself. Even if just to watch her, without her knowledge.
But as he had found out, Rukia's not a bird. She's a silent tigress, who will never be happy in captivity.
And thus he let her roam around, but with a leash.
Because, he can't afford to lose her again, no matter what.
"Have you attained a rank?" Byakuya asked, trying to figure out how much discomfort his orders to Captain Ukitake, to never let her have a rank, caused her.
Silence. Then a breathe…
"Please forgive me, Nii-sama. I had failed to secure a rank with my skills" Rukia admitted regretfully. Disappointed with herself. Embarrassed at her inability.
Byakuya could not help but feel guilty at causing her pain.
But he has to keep her safe.
"Very well. You may retire" he said instead.
"Rukia" he added under his breath.
"Arigatou, Nii-sama" Rukia answered respectfully. And then closed the sliding door.
Living Byakuya alone with his thoughts.
Have I been right with my decision?
To be continued….
