Another chapter for my fans and those that love Spyro. I know it is taking a month for each edition, but I am still struggling with my English and spelling.
So, let me say my thanks to those who also love Spyro...and the words I wrote. HolyCross9, DestinyDragons101, DiabloPProcento thanks for the reviews.
Chapter 30...Mom's the word!
Standing up on his hind legs, the smile on his face even larger then he always has, Spyro continues making breakfast for his family. His paws working the griddle like an expert, though his eyes remain focused on his beautiful wife, daughter and the two boys he loves. They sit calmly at the blue steel table, given as a gift by the Ice Guardian Cyril, enjoying the company they share every morning.
Both Ignitus and Blazer stare at their father, the smell of sizzling bacon and eggs making their mouths water, impatiently waiting to be served. However, knowing if they jump off their stools and attack the purple dragon with smiles and kisses, a piece or two may find their way to the ground early.
And of course, it works perfectly.
"My goodness dad..." Gale grumbles as she stares at her brothers fighting over the last sliver. "...you, and mom, sure are easy when it comes to giving them the first pieces."
Cynder shows a smug grin, as Spyro looks at his daughter before dropping another sliver before his boys.
"We used to do the same thing for you when you were a little whelp." the black dragoness replies, smiling wider as her husband is helpless to keep the boys from climbing his legs to get more.
Spyro laughs, and yelps with a bit of pain, as both Ignitus and Blazer claw their way to his shoulders, perching themselves to wait for the next piece.
"I wasn't that bad...was I?" the young dragoness asks, making her father laugh even harder. Spyro then smugly smiles wider at his wife, pointing at a small mark on her left shoulder.
"Where do you thing your mother got that?" the purple dragon begins laughing harder, remember the exact words that came from his wife after the squeal of pain.
"She said, even the battle with Malefor didn't hurt like that."
Gale suddenly looks embarrassed, as her memory of the day years ago comes from deep within, recalling the squeal of pain her mother let out. But she also remembers how mommy caught her when she jumped from that shoulder, and gave the young whelpling her biggest hug and kiss she ever received.
The great Hero of Avalar gets his own painful moment as he slides all the bacon from the pan onto a plate. And as he brings this tray of pure bliss to the table but Ignitus and Blazer jump off to their places at the table, there eyes now fixed on mom as she doles out the helpings to her family. Spyro then flips the other pan, finishing the half dozen over-medium eggs, before sliding them out on all five plates.
He looks around with a certain joy as the boys and his daughter smile with every bit, but it is the smile on Cynder he gets the best feeling of pride. He watches this proud mother wait for her children to finish before taking a single bit, making sure they have had enough. And as her daughter hops from the table, and the boys scarf down their last pieces of bacon, the black dragon finally lovers her mouth down to the plate.
This reaction always make Spyro smile, understanding how lucky he was to have saved this dragon so many years ago.
"What?" Cynder asks, as she notices the odd smile and stare Spyro gives. However, before he answers, the purple dragon pecks her on the cheek.
"I love you." is all he says, and the former Terror of the Sky knows exactly why and what he means, as she feels the same emotion. It was that same feeling that changed her life, taking the darkness from inside and leaving it to die with the Dark Master.
"I love you too, Spyro."
This feeling becomes even stronger as both dragons are suddenly bombarded by paws and claws, as Ignitus and Blazer see their chance to get kisses from mom and dad.
"MAMA!" barks Blazer, as he hugs Cynder's cheek, bringing even more emotion to the black dragon's heart.
The purple dragon then looks at his other son, who climbs his way up from the hug he gave for a kiss himself.
"MAMA!"
Spyro says nothing, just stairs at his now laughing wife while Ignitus gives him a gentle lick to daddy's cheek.
"This is not funny, Cynder." the Hero of Avalar grunts, making the black dragoness chuckle even harder.
"Oh, yes it is!"
Ignitus notices that he gets no reply from his father, so the young dragon tries once again to please his daddy with the only word he has figured out how to say.
"MAMA!"
Cynder's laughter again fills the room, making Spyro shake his head, but he does scoop his boy up in his paw.
"Daddy, Ignitus...Daa...Dee." the purple dragon begs, trying to hold back his own laughter, as he to is starting to find this funny. It is his own fault, as he helped get his sons to say this first word with mommy.
"You are enjoying this...aren't you?"
The happy mother stops laughing for a moment, but does not remove her sarcastic grin. A paw is then used to scoop both Ignitus and Blazer from the ground, placing them both on Spyro's shoulders. Cynder gives her children a soft scratch behind their ears, before using that paw to grab her husband under the chin, bring him nose to nose with her.
"More then you can possibly imagine."
The black dragon gives her beloved a soft peck to his cheek, making the two whelplings dance with joy on daddy's shoulder. They may not know the correct words to use, but they do understand what love is, as they get to see it every day.
"But these boys love there dad...slash Mama, and that is all you ever need know."
The smile on Spyro's face returns, feeling the love of his family. However, that family includes more then just his wife and children, and this reminder is given with a very sarcastic tone from the staircase to their left.
"You can try to convince him of that Sis..." Sparx buzzes up between the two dragons, a peck to the left cheek of the one he feared years ago, followed by a sharp stare to his big younger brother. "...bet my other sister here is losing his manhood faster and faster."
Spyro looks at his wife, who again cannot remove the grin on her face, before he turns his attention to Spark. And with his boys standing back on daddy's shoulders, unable to reach the yellow dragonfly to swat him from the sky, the Hero of Avalar does the next best thing to knock his older brother down.
"HEY" the small insect cries out with a shivering voice, falling to the ground as Spyro blasts him with a frosty breeze.
"Nice cheep shot, SIS!"
Spark can tell his brother is laughing as he walk out the door, laying on the kitchen floor nearly frozen solid. However, a warm shower of water comes down from Cynder's mouth, bringing the small dragonfly back to normal.
"You two are the funniest pair of brothers in the history of Avalar."
The small, and now warm, yellow insect nods his head in agreement, hovering up to the black dragon's left ear. He then lands gently on Cynder's left shoulder, taking his place on the other drake he loves as much as his own family.
As the odd pair of dragon and insect begin their day together, Spyro and his boys follow Gale out of the house to start their day. The young dragoness begins with a hug to her aunt and a peck on the cheek from her grandfather. Then with another whelpling's kiss from Amethyst, and a soft bop to the nose of her cousin Onyx, Gale makes her way out the door.
"Wait for me, Sweetheart...we will walk with you to work." the purple dragon requests, giving his own bop to the head of Onyx.
"Really, Uncle Spyro!"
The great Hero of Avalar gives the teenaged black dragon a smile, then pecks his light purplish colored niece. A paw is offered to the true head of this house hold, but Diamond could care less about the greeting from his son-in-law. However, his true smile emerges as both Blazer and Ignitus jump from daddy's shoulder, landing on him with their normal greeting of a dozen kisses.
"I guess you can start heading out Gale..." Spyro says, watching with a smile as the boys absolutely pummel their laughing grandfather.
"...this may take a while."
So, after coating Diamond with a barrage of happy licks, and getting another few pieces of bacon for aunt Pearl, the boys climb up on dad's back for a walk around Warfang.
Candy Land is the first place they get to visit, if you don't count the forty shops and businesses that Spyro passed on the way down Main Street. All on them being visited by the twins, and everyone inside getting a wet hello kiss from Ignitus and Blazer. However, it is the candy shop where Spyro's youngest have decided to make their presence known more then anywhere else.
It starts with a game of 'chase the bird'. A game that annoyed Jakko when the whelpling sons of Spyro first played it, but it was also his fault for giving them a sweet tasting victory every time they caught him. And knowing he will be attacked with love and friendship after every chase, the old one winged parrot has come to enjoy this game himself.
"HELLO BOYS!" he barks, breaking off a piece of the chocolate bar he is eating, showing to the now smiling pair of dark purple dragons. They yank the two leashes from daddy's paws, racing across the room to capture their prize, and even though he has a customer waiting, Jakko begins his run to.
With great joy on all three of their faces, the former pirate is taken down and given his punishment for trying to run.
"I sure hope he is going to wash his wing after that?"
Dominick gives a wide grin and a strong laugh to the young wolf we must serve at the register, as his boss continues taking time away from the job to play. The large bear knows his best friend has always been about money first, but to see him act like this with Spyro's boys, he truly sees the different side of Jakko. One he never saw until this candy store opened its doors.
The purple dragon gives Ignitus and Blazer a couple more minutes to do what they do. Give the friend of his wife a good tongue cleaning. He then reaches for the leashes to take control of this lunacy, bringing his boys back toward the kitchen, where they will get a free bar of chocolate and more love.
However, before the great hero can get back to Gale, Joey emerges with a small speckle of the dark confection painted on his left cheek. His daughter also exits the kitchen, a look of worry in her eyes, and the remnant of chocolate on her mouth.
The same color that Spyro sees on the young dragon.
"What in the name of the Ancestors are you two doing back here." the purple dragon grumbles with anger, his eyes locked on Joey. Then that same stare of death is given to Gale, who has never seen daddy look at his little girl like this before.
"Nothing!" the young dragoness cries, making Spyro a bit more angrier knowing she just lied. However, he has to hold back his laughter as Joey runs for his life out the front door. Even Ignitus and Blazer find a place to hide behind a stunned Dominick, as they have never heard their other mama raise his voice like that.
The purple dragon slowly steps closer to his daughter, who lowers her head with fear and shame. But to Gale's surprise, daddy simply picks her up off the floor, holding his little girl out before a now smiling face. He pulls her to his muzzle giving the second dragon he has loved with all his heart a soft peck to her cheek.
"Trust me Gale...I'm not mad at you, or Joey." he holds the young dragoness out before his smiling face, giving the true reason for his fouls anger. He looks down at his boys, who come out from behind the large bear where they hid. Spyro then turns back to Gale with the same smile daddy has seen every day of her life.
"I just hate the fact that my little girl...is growing up so fast."
The young dragon pulls herself from daddy's paw, flying up to Spyro's nose where she hugs it tightly. Gale does her best version of what her brothers do, giving the purple dragon a big wet kiss.
"I love you, Daddy."
Gale, with a new feeling of pride in her heart, gets back to her giant kettle. She has grown beyond even her own expectations in only six short years, but the young dragoness knows she can improve. This is something daddy knows, as he himself rose-up to level unexpected.
Spyro offers his paw to Dominick, who gladly takes it with pride. He himself has seen the growth of Gale in the past month, and feels it is because of his work with her.
"You and Cynder should be proud of her, Master Spyro." he says, looking over at the young dragon who does not pay attention to this discussion, only to the job she as been entrusted with.
"I don't even need to be hear anymore, knowing this kitchen can produce the best..." the giant looks around at the hundreds of treats Candy Land creates, and how Gale has learned to make every single one of them to perfection.
"...of anything we have to offer."
The purple dragon feels his pride rise even more, as this large bear does not wait for a return comment. Instead Dominick just gets back to work, no longer teaching, just helping his chef. He makes it to the register, a soft paw used to tap a once angry bird.
"I am proud to say my daughter works here, Jake"
Unable to say a word for the first time in his life, the one winged former pirate simply uses his working arm to hug Spyro. He never believed his life could bring this much joy to others. And it is not just the look on the purple dragon's face that makes him feel this way, nor the smiles he gets from Dominick and Gale. It is the faces of every dragon, cheetah, wolf, manweresmall and insect that come to give him their hard earned coins. Coins of gold, silver and bronze they are happy to spend.
Having made everyone in the candy stores day sweeter with his visit, with the exception of one, Spyro decided to lead his boys out into the city. However, his path toward the next destination on their journey, the dragon palace, would need to make a slight stop on the way. And with both sons leashes held in his left paw, Spyro gently knocks on the door of his wife's best friend.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY SON?" the blue and while chested friend of the family growls in Spyro's face, making the great Hero of Avalar back up just like his children.
"Nothing, Ms Tempest..." Spyro replies with a shaky voice, looking down at his boys, wondering if they are gonna witness their daddy get his butt kicked by a lady.
"Then why is Joey hiding in his room, saying you are going to kill him."
Unable to keep the smug grin from returning, even though Tempest my lay him out with a single paw to the face, Spyro answers her question with the news of what he saw.
"I think Joey and my daughter are getting...closer and closer to each other. If you know what I mean" Spyro replies with a sarcastic tone, smiling wider as the very strong wind dragoness begins to smirk herself, understanding the reason the purple hero snapped at her son.
"What makes you say that Spyro?"
The purple dragon lifts Ignitus and Blazer up for a hug and a smile from Tempest, as both boys where scared shit-less by the bark of an angry mother. But the wind dragon can also show a great deal of love with a simple smile and a gentle paw to their chins. However, that look returns in a flash, as Spyro gives his explanation.
"I caught him giving Gale a very chocolaty kiss on the cheek."
"Really!?" Tempest's voice is not just filled with pure joy, her eyes show the love this mother has for Spyro's little girl. But to be able to call her a part of her family, along with the purple dragon and her best friend, this proud mother is nearly dumbfounded. She turns those eyes toward the living-room of her home, and with the strongest growl she can possibly muster, this proud dragoness calls on her son.
"JOEY..." she barks, trying hard to keep the joy from taking any of the false rage from her voice. "...GET YOU BUTT OUT HERE NOW!"
Spyro tries his hardest to follow the act of a professional, keeping the grin he has had for the past hour from forming on his face. He watches as the young dragon crawls out from under the living-room table, making his way paw by paw to his mother.
"Ya...yes, Ma...mama?" Joey cries his words as he slowly moves to his mother's paws, believing he is gonna be punished for something he felt was right inside. He looks down at the ground, unable to focus up on the blue eyes he normally gets nothing but a stair of love from.
"Spyro told me, he caught you giving Gale a kiss on the cheek at the candy store." and the young dragon lowers his head down further as she forces and answer with one strong word.
"WELL?"
Joey looks up at Spyro, who does his best to keep from laughing, as the purple dragon is not as good at being a sarcastic and cruel jerk as Tempest...or his wife.
"Ye...ye...yesss, ma...maa...mommy."
The fear in his voice is so real, so true, that this sarcastic loving mother cannot hold back her laughter anymore. Tempest then reaches down, making Joey jump back, but not fast enough to avoid her grasp. She lifts the young dragon up to her chest for one of the biggest hugs he has ever received from his mom.
"Did she smile for you, afterword?"
With shock in his eyes, Joey turns to Spyro, who is laughing along with Tempest. He then returns his own smiling face to mom, realizing he is not in trouble.
However, he is also not sure.
"I think she did...but I'm not sure." the young dragon replies, making his mother laugh even harder as he explains this answer.
"I was so nervous that I couldn't keep my eyes open."
Both Spyro and Tempest look at each other, understanding how true that show of his love was for the young daughter of the purple dragon. But after only a few seconds of this joy, Spyro watches the blue and white wind dragon begin focusing her mind on something else.
"Joey..." she says, making the Hero of Avalar realize his guess was fight about her, especially when Tempest takes the two leashes from Spyro's paw, releasing the boys to play. "...can you take Ignitus and Blazer in the other room and play, while I talk to Spyro."
The young dragon is fearful that he did something wrong, especially seeing the odd look in his mother's eyes. However, he does not question her, just doing what was asked.
"Come on Blazer...Ignitus." he says, but he need not struggle, as the boys begin chasing him down the hallway the moment their father unhooks them from their leashes. And though it makes him smile, Spyro soon loses that grin seeing a strange pair of eyes on this family friend.
"What's the matter Tempest?" he asks, and the normally strong wind dragon lowers her head. Tempest then looks at her best friend's husband, giving the news that she is not sure will be taken well by Garnet.
"I think I'm gravid, but..." she says, showing a bit of fear in her eyes, believing her husband will not be happy about this, a fact she mentions when Spyro shows a very wide smile.
"...I don't think Garnet wants another child." Tempest offers, seeing the grin begin to fill Spyro's face.
The purple dragon then looks toward the living room of this good home, watching Joey play with his boys, seeing the love that would come from this young dragon to another. He then turns to the now teared eyes of this very strong, but very humbled mother.
"How do you feel about being a mama again."
Spyro doesn't even need to hear an answer in words, as the smile and ending flow of tears from this proud mother is answer enough. However, Tempest makes sure the purple dragon, she loves like a brother, knows exactly how she feels.
"I beg the Ancestors every day."
The Hero of Avalar needs no other words to understand who serious this strong wind dragon is, and with a smile on his face, lifts Tempest's lowered head to look him eye to eye.
"Then he will love it too." Spyro raps his paws around the wind dragon he has never seen this afraid before, and with his grasp, takes her fears away.
"Because I know he loves you more then life itself."
The normally angry wind dragon shows her true self as she takes Spyro in her paws, hugging him as tight as Cynder would. She then rests her chin on the shoulder of a dear friend knowing the outcome of this moment in her life will be fine.
"I thank the ancestors every day for you and Cynder." she then backs away, looking the world's hero, along with herself, eye to eye. The blue wind dragoness, who can talk as much as Volteer, says nothing else, but speaks volumes with her stair.
The great hero also remains silent, though he need not say a thing, as his boys take over showing Tempest the love there purple dragon's family has for her. Another attack is made, pummeling the wind dragon with dozens of licks and paw pads to her belly, as if they know where her mind was, at the moment.
In need or love.
Though feeling this love, and knowing everything about Spyro and his family, the very sarcastic dragoness finds herself with one last comment.
"Oh, by the way Spyro..." she begins with that voice the purple dragon knows well. As if the blue dragon is loading up to fire a shot to the heart...and being herself, Tempest smile while pulling the trigger.
"...are the boys still calling you Mama?"
Nearly two thousand feet from the streets of Warfang, in the great palace of dragons, the five guardians of Avalar enjoy a well prepared meal. Served with a smile by a gray haired cheetah female, how has cooked for the last three Master Guardians the past forty years, Blazer gives an approving grin..
"Lunch was spectacular as always, Ms Nala." says the large dragon, using his giant black tongue to remove any of the remnants from his face and paws. It brings a proud grin to this old cat seeing the joy that her food brings, but mostly to watch this elder act like a child when he eats everything she offers like this.
"It has always been my pleasure to sure the Guardians of this world, Master Blazer." is replied with a slight nod to the largest dragon on Avalar. Her eyes then revolve around the table of masters who all give her the same offer of thanks to a well made meal.
She places all the dishes on a silver plated serving tray, then once again looks to the elder in the room, who simply nods his head once again. The gray haired cheetah knows what he is asking for, and she walks out of the view of all five guardians.
"So, what are your plans for the day Cyril?" the large dragon asks, and with a lowering of his head the blue Ice breather already knows where this question is leading him.
"I plan on doing absolutely nothing today, Sir..." he grumbles, seeing the smug smile begin to grow on the great red and black dragon's face. A smile that is now going around the room, especially as they see the second cart that Nala is bringing out of the palace kitchen.
"...but I'm guessing that is not going to happen now." he says, his eyes looking straight down after seeing a giant vanilla coated chocolate cake being brought out by the old cheetah.
"Happy Birthday to You..." the other four guardians begin singing along with Nala, and Cyril begins shaking his lowered head.
"Happy Birthday to You..." they continue, making the Ice dragon stare at all in the room with pure fire in his eyes.
"I hate you all!" he growls, but that does not stop the music, nor does it remove their smirks. In fact, the other three guardians and Master Blazer just increase the grins they have and the sounds of their voices.
"Happy Birthday Master Cyril..." is sung by Nala, Volteer and Terrador. However, Master Blazer decides to use a different name for the annoyed Ice dragon.
"Grumpy Bastard."
Everyone stops singing, and they stare at the large black and red Fire dragon, who cannot remove the smile on his face, especially when Cyril shows him a grin as well. All four dragon, and the now laughing cheetah, finish the song with pure joy in their voices.
"Happy Birthday to You."
No longer feeling his annoyed self, the Ice Guardian looks around at every one with the smile they never see that often. He then turns to the cake, which he can tell Nala put hours of work into, along with the love she has for this blue scaled dragon.
"Thank you, Mama." he says softly to the elder cheetah, as she positions a rainbow colored 5 candle next to a matching 0. He then looks at the other guardian, showing the smile they only see once in a blue moon. However, as those eyes find his best friend, who he knows made this all possible, Cyril gives his true feelings.
"I know this was your idea Volteer..." he begins, but says nothing else before rising on his hind paws and giving his best friend a strong hug. "...and I appreciate it."
"I felt it was important since you did not get a party for your fortieth, or forty first, or forty second, or..."
"Are you really gonna count all the way to fifty, Volteer..." Terrador grumble, his left eye brow lowered with his solid stare. "...because this is an ice cream cake, and it is going to melt if you don't let Cyril go, and allow him to blow out the candles."
Everyone in the room laughs at the now embarrassed looking yellow and blue scaled Electric dragon, all except one. And the birthday boy shows his friendship and gratitude to Volteer with a paw to his neck, pulling him in for the only embrace he gives.
"Thanks Volteer, and don't worry. I still love you, old friend." the Ice dragon offers, but once again Volteer opens his mouth and sticks his paw in it.
"But you are older then I am, Cyril...by three years, four months, and..." the Electric dragon begins again, and Cyril grabs his friend by the mouth with a solid paw.
"I swear to the ancestors,..." he says, staring at everyone else in the room before returning his eye to he big yellow friend. "...it gets harder and harder to say I love this walking nut-case every day."
Another chapter in the books for you fans of Spyro...and me.
Let me hear from you think, if you have a minute or two to tell me.
