Masters of the Sea and Death
Chapter Four: Shadows of Evil.
Atlantis: Many Years Ago.
It was going very well that day. Yes several more Garasharp had attacked that day, but Dagahra could see that Deutalios was now tearing through several at once, laughing wildly as he strangled one with his front limbs, morphed into squid tentacles, and then popped its head off as he retracted them and quickly generated a tornado, sucking up the rest of the serpents and allowing Barugon and Manda to freeze them in mid-air so they would fall and shatter to pieces on the ground. "Well, well, little buddy," Dagahra chuckled as soon as the battle was over, and clean-up had begun, "so how'd you come up with that little move back there?"
"Well…. since you know the last times that we fought these things they splattered everywhere," the rat kaiju quickly explained as he watched Dagahra briefly chomp down on debris next to the ocean, and quickly suck in some of the Garasharp blood from the water as well, "I figured that since their blood can fuck up everything, why not get rid of the blood early? Manda and Barugon always seem to have trouble freezing large groups of the damn things, so I catch them in my typhoon thingy, and then as they spin, have them fire their beams at them. There, problem solved hehehehe!" Dagahra then looked at him, and rubbed his head with his massive claw, causing the rat to purr just a bit.
"He really likes you huh Dagahra? I'm proud to see how he's grown…. I really mean it," Manda said, her beaming smile making the rat kaiju jump up and down excitedly, and Barugon then rubbing his head as Dagahra quickly dived into the sea, consuming the rest of the debris and serpent remains while Zedus sniffed in the air, holding a Barem in one of his massive claws. Irys had his back to the group, and stood staring at the pillar of light at the center of the city, with several dried-up corpses next to him. Dagahra then surfaced again, having consumed all of the debris, and panted just a bit, as Zedus looked up.
"I do agree with you Manda, but there's a more pressing matter at hand," Zedus answered, sniffing the starfish some more before he dissolved it with acid. "These starfish…. or Barem…. they keep increasing in number lately, and we need to figure out where they are coming from, because I can tell they will overrun the life in the ocean."
"Oh Zedus, would you calm down?" Barugon then placed his front leg over his fellow reptile while Manda seemed to think about what Zedus had said, and then made sure Deutalios stayed calm while Dagahra prepared to process the debris, and spread it back into the sea. "I'm sure they're a smaller problem than you're making it out to be, but hey if you insist…. then I'm sure we can convince the humans to help us look for their source." Irys was still looking at the pillar of light, barely listening to the conversation of his fellow Guardians.
"Don't worry Zedus," Dagahra cheerfully said, "and once we find the source, we'll destroy it once and for all!" Daghara's face winced as he fired out his cannons, a tiny bit of white mist coming out until it stopped. And then a look of pain took over his face as he tried firing again…. and Irys turned around slowly, hearing his grunts of pain. "No worries… I think I got something lodged in thes-URG! AAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Dagahra screamed as he fell to the ground and his cannons fired rapidly, but not the white mist as expected…. a blood red mist which was firing out rapidly and wildly, and making Dagahra scream in pain. "HELP ME! SOMEONE!"
"DAGAHRA!" Manda and Deutalios screamed at the same time and ran over to him, followed by Zedus and Barugon, while Irys stood there watching in horror as Dagahra writhed in pain, the red mist still firing out as he could see tiny forms dropping from it.
"He had a drawback after all," Irys whispered in shock and horror, Dagahra's howls of pain bringing in the Atlanteans who all were pointing, and then talking about something, "…. The Barem come from him….. Oh Dagahra…."
"Make it stop…. Make it stop please…. it hurts…. Manda… little buddy…. Help me," Dagahra weakly murmured as his vision went black, and the last thing he saw was Deutalios and Manda's faces, along with Irys staring at him in the background.
"Dagahra." The sea dragon cracked his eyes open a bit…. but he was no longer next to the ocean where he had collapsed, rather back in the chamber he had woken up in when he was first created. As he looked around, feeling the insides of his body burning, he then noticed something tiny in a far corner, along with something taller standing over him, bent down and inspecting him closely. "Good…. You're up… it's okay Deutalios…. you can come to him now." Irys's eye was glowing, along with the rest of the spots on his body, as Deutalios scampered over, moving his body next to Dagahra's.
"BOSS! I was so worried!"
"Irys… little buddy…. What happened? Why am I here?" Dagahra still felt the burning pain within his body as Irys bent down, his face right in front of Dagahra's. "Wait Manda! Where is she!?"
"I'm afraid she's busy right now…. she and the other humans are talking…. because… as it turns out… you do have a drawback after all Dagahra. The Barem…. their source is you….. all this time…." Dagahra's eyes went wide, and then he suddenly remembered all the times he had found them on him…. the times he had seen them first before anyone else did…. and the times he had seen them latch onto the sea creatures he and the others would eat… and how they were practically inedible.
"No…..no….no…..NO!" Dagahra screamed, and he quickly pushed Deutalios away as several Barem crawled out of his shoulder cannons, and he backed up, trying to get away from them. "No…. no….. oh no….. stay away Deutalios….. I don't want to hurt you….. oh no….. I fucked up…. I fucked up….. What's gonna happen to me? What's gonna happen Irys?" Irys stood up and then looked back at the entrance, making sure it was closed.
"Since we all have drawbacks now…. and you especially have a damaging one, I can't say for sure Dagahra…. but for now…. you are to remain here…. while we continue to do our jobs, and then maybe after a few weeks…. they'll let you out again…. provided you can control those starfish…." Dagahra looked up at Irys, and then beckoned Deutalios over to him again, the rat nervously approaching as several more Barem fell out of Dagahra.
"I'm sorry little buddy….. I don't know what to do….. I'm scared…" Irys then looked around the room some more, before walking over to one of the walls and placing his hand on it.
"Tell me Dagahra…. have you ever heard of the tragedy of the first Guardians?" Irys then removed his hand from the wall, watching as Dagahra just looked at him in confusion. "I thought not, it's not a story Manda or the Atlanteans would tell you. Or more specifically…. the latter. Manda will tell you this story, as she did me when my drawback was discovered, although she seems to believe that both of you needed to hear it together."
"First Guardians? Hehehehe….." Deutalios started to laugh…. and then stopped himself as he could feel his heart begin to beat, the idea of something coming before him and everyone else filling his mind with terrible creatures he could see in it. Dagahra just stood there, a look of betrayal in his face as Irys waited for Deutalios to calm down. "What happened?"
Irys laughed quietly and his strange whale call like roar went around the room, the two other guardians barely noticing the dried-up corpses which seemed to litter the walkway overlooking the chamber. "Long ago when Manda was being overwhelmed by the Garasharp….. the Atlanteans decided to test out the power of the Heart, not to power their city or create the technology they possess…. but rather to create life. A natural predator to a race of serpents, what better than birds? And so…. the first Guardians were born…. The Gyaos…." Irys's glowing lights on his chest almost seemed to put the images of the Heart creating life into both Dagahra and Deutalios's minds, the two being mesmerized as they saw Irys's central chest glowing brighter than the others. "The Gyaos were quite effective at first… their razor-sharp talons easily tore apart those serpents, and their sonic beams could easily cut through many Garasharp at once. However…. being the first Guardians to be created…. their drawbacks became apparent very soon."
"Why didn't she tell me this?' Dagahra could feel a teardrop fall from his eye…. now remembering seeing several mosaics of what appeared to be bird like creatures on the walls of the city, and how they seemed to always be entangled with the Garasharp. "Did they order her not to do that?"
"As it would turn out….. those damned birds could not fight well in the sunlight, with quite a few of them burning up. They also bred fast, and they were always hungry… always searching for food…. it did not matter what the food was." The screams of humans and Garasharp, along with horrifying screeches seemed to fill the quite room as Dagahra saw a small shape within Irys's chest, and he took in the full implications of what the Guardian meant by them
"Monsters…. they're monsters…." Dagahra couldn't stop thinking about them, and then he started to look down at his own claws. "They're monsters….."
"Yes, they are monsters Dagahra," Irys replied as the shape of a small pair of wings became visible in his chest, and Irys's whale call like roar echoed throughout the room again as the blue lights seemed to pulse up and down. "After all…. they never tried to understand the Gyaos's behavior, instead calling them failures." Dagahra, hearing Irys's words, then tried to say something in response to him, but the other Guardian's stare kept him from talking. "You thought the Gyaos were the monsters didn't you? They were only animals… how do you tell them to stop breeding? How do you tell them to stop eating? They understood their job quite well, but they couldn't control their instincts, that was all. So… the monsters decided that they were useless, and rather than try to help them, put them away beneath the city, and started fresh again. In spite of their drawbacks, the Gyaos fought with their lives to defend the city, and that is why I call this story the Tragedy of the First Guardians." Irys's chest opened up, and Dagahra watched as something crawled out of it, a small white creature with bat like wings, two legs and a tail, along with an arrow shaped head, which started to chirp just a bit as Irys picked it up in his hands, and stroked it with one of his tentacles. The chick seemed to view Irys as its parent almost, and looked at him with a sense of love in its eyes.
"I…. I didn't know this….." Dagahra put his claws on his heads, as another thought came to his mind, one he couldn't even think about. "Deutalios, you, Zedus, Barugon, and me….. it could happen to us couldn't it?" Irys continued to pet the Gyaos chick, it nuzzling his hand as Irys nodded solemnly.
"The way I see it, you have to make a decision now Dagahra. You once told me long ago you wanted to use the Heart to fix our drawbacks. The thing is… I don't want my drawbacks fixed. They are part of who I am….. and you need to decide who you are, Master of the Sea. When they do come up with a Guardian with no drawbacks…. and Manda cannot do anything anymore…. will you submit? Or will you fight?"
Irys then left with the Gyaos chick, letting it suck on one of his tentacles for nutrients from the bodies he had drained, and Dagahra looked down at Deutalios, the rat's sane look suggesting Irys's words had gotten to him.
What would he do?
Atlantis: Dagahra and Deutalios.
He would fight of course. Fight against Bagan, and the Earth Defenders, whom he was sure were coming, as he no longer felt the presence of the Hidotah. Dagahra placed his foot onto one of the walkways near the edge of the ocean, and hoisted himself up, smiling as he clenched some of the vegetation and the cool tiles underneath his feet. "We're home little buddy….." Behind him Deutalios scampered out of the water too, barely noticing an explosion as the last of the humans' war vessels sunk beneath the waves, along with their jets and any other war vessel unfortunate enough to be at Atlantis. Dagahra laughed under his breath as Deutalios hopped up and down, screeching excitedly as the two saw the center of the city in the distance, still shining brightly as nighttime began to fall.
"Now what boss!? Now what!?" Dagahra then walked forward, and sniffed the air, taking in the familiar scent of the city, and placed his claw into one of the cracks, feeling the flow of the energies of the heart. Deutalios then seemed to calm down, waiting for more instruction from Dagahra. "Boss? You okay?"
"I am little buddy….. more than okay…. Follow me…. I think it's time we found out what happened to the so called "Shadows of Evil," and then we'll go from there." Dagahra extended his wings, and took off into the air, before firing his purple energy beam followed by several cannon blasts, creating a hole in the ground which Deutalios and Dagahra then leapt into, the same blue lights being present on a pathway which they landed on.
"Woah…." Underneath the very city was a massive network of pathways and chambers, each of them leading to different parts of the city, and all were connected to various entrances and exists as well. Most prominent of all was a massive central chamber, where lines running down from the celling showed exactly where the Heart was. "It's so big….. do you think they're down here?" As Deutalios said this, Dagahra then started to walk down the pathway towards the central chamber, while Deutalios followed, their footsteps echoing all throughout the underground.
"Oh I'm sure they are little buddy…. being in stasis for who knows how long probably kept them fresh and ready for when the city rose again. All we gotta do is look…. and listen….." Dagahra whispered the last part as he heard something scuttling way above them, and Deutalios did too, the two quickly dodging as a horrific screech and the sound of a slicing beam came from above, the beam missing both of them as several shapes flew down and landed, with batlike wings and arrow shaped heads, staring at the two other kaiju with a hungry look in their red eyes. There were about five Gyaos surrounding Dagahra and Deutalios, and they started to approach them, drooling hungrily as they hissed and screeched. "See? Here they are." One of the Gyaos then charged at the two, only for Deutalios to shoot out a nested jaw, and quickly tear its throat out, while two more fired their slicing beams at Dagahra who leapt at them as the beams barely grazed him, and then slammed them into the walls of the entrance to the Heart before using one as a shield against another slicing beam and watching as its organs spilled out, and then quickly holding onto the other as Deutalios's tornado formed, sucking in the other two Gyaos and sending one falling off of the walkway right onto a spire and impaling it, while the other broke free and started snapping after the rat.
"Okay you're really startin to piss me off!" Deutalios then dodged another slicing bean and then jumped onto its back, firing his sonar blast point blank at its head and watching as skin and muscles flew off, flaying the Gyaos's head as it screeched its last, leaving the Gyaos in Dagahra's claw as the only remaining one out of the five. There were a few more sounds of flying and then as Dagahra dragged the Gyaos up next to Deutalios, they watched three more Gyaos land, a white one in particular standing out as it looked at the Gyaos in Dagahra's claw and then screeched back at the other two, like it was telling them to stand down.
"You the leader? Well…. sorry for killing your guys, but they attacked me first, so I had to defend myself," Dagahra chuckled as he let the Gyaos go, the white one watching as it crawled back weakly, and hid behind it. "Hello there, I'm Dagahra, and I am Master of the Sea, and like you I come from Atlantis. This is Deutalios, and we've finally come back here after so long, so if it isn't too much trouble, I'd like to ask you if we could rely on all of your services to help defend this city against these threats who are coming. That is, if there are more of you, cause I sure don't know." The white Gyaos looked at Dagahra some more, before it raised its head, letting out a massive screech which echoed all throughout the underground. A series of similar cries sounded out, and Dagahra smiled as he heard them, and he could see more dark shapes moving up the walls of the underground, watching many glittering red eyes in the dark, and looked below…. finally noticing the nests below, with a few Gyaos licking up the blood of the one impaled on the spire. "Well then…. this is your commander now…. my little buddy Deutalios. You'll listen to all of his commands, alright?"
"Wait boss…. really?! I get to lead these things!? Oh fuck yes hehehehe!" Deutalios hopped up and down, watching as the White Gyaos then looked at Dagahra, its eyes narrowing in what appeared to be reluctance, before putting its head down and seeming to bow before the two former Guardians of Atlantis. "So now what boss?"
"Get to the surface Deutalios, and watch for those Earth Defenders. When you see them, make a signal, and hold them off for as long as you can. As for me….. I think it's time I went to the Heart…. So be careful little buddy…" Dagahra walked up to Deutalios, and wrapped his arms around the tiny kaiju, the rat doing the same as he nuzzled his neck, the two staying like that for a long time. "When this is all over….. we won't have to worry about being separated again…. and we won't have to worry about anything else again."
"Be careful too boss….. please….." Deutalios closed his eyes, and felt the warmth of Dagahra's scales against his fur, and then pulled away slowly, looking as Dagahra turned to the chamber. "…..We'll always be together boss…. I love you….."
"I love you too little buddy… see you on the other side….." Dagahra then left Deutalios there, and crawled into the entrance of the chamber, hearing a pulsing noise that became louder and louder as he went in. He then could see the pillar right in front of him, and walked in… seeing three shapes attached to the pillar, almost seeming as if they were made of the same stone as the pillar.
Irys. Zedus. Barugon.
"Hey…. I came back for you…. I promise I'll free you all…. but first I gotta do something." Dagahra looked up at the ceiling, and then quickly flew up, blasting a hole through it with several cannon blasts and his mouth beam, and when he saw the blue glow right in front of him, gently landed, smiling as he walked up to the Heart. "As for you….. I'll….." The sound of an explosion cut him off, and Dagahra turned around to where he heard it from. Evidently the Hidotah had failed, although he had come to expect that. "So they're here…. hm…" Dagahra then held his claws up to the Heart, putting them around the pulsing blue orb, and letting it reach into his mind, the blue bleeding into a crimson red color as energy seemed to flow into Dagahra, and the blue lines throughout the chamber started to become red as well.
"Wait till they get a load of me."
Atlantis: The Earth Defenders.
Junior stepped onto the edge of the strange new continent, feeling the rubble and dirt beneath his feet as he walked up from the ocean. Looking back at the line of ruined human ships and their burning wreck, he quietly reminded himself of why they were there, before turning back around to look at the new place. He looked around, scanning the horizon as he looked at the blue glowing lines running throughout the strange buildings and walkways, leading up to a center structure where the blue light was shooting out of the top. Leo flew over his head, looking at the buildings below as he landed on Junior's back, his eyes wide in curiosity. "This….. look at this Leo….. it's…. so big…." Ebirah scuttled up from the sea, looking up as his claws fell to his side, staring in awe at the city before him. Neo landed right after, dropping Anguirus and Kong, as he clutched his head, seeming to ignore the city. Everyone turned to him as he clutched his head, and then Neo looked up, noticing them. "Hey…. you okay Neo?"
"I'm fine Junior…. I just thought I heard the Beast again," Neo said, breathing slowly as he scanned his mind for any sign of the Beast. "I guess I'm still a bit nervous…. but…. I'm good…." Everyone sighed in relief as Neo walked forward, looking at the blue pillar with everyone else. "She wasn't kidding brother….. this is all beyond what the other humans are capable of….." He then walked forward along with Junior, while Leo took flight, and Kong and Anguirus followed closely behind, with Ebirah looking in wonder at some of the rubble and strange machines lying prone on the ground.
"It's bigger than Skull Island ever was, that's for sure," Kong muttered as he quickly swung up a tower, and picked up one of the strange ships and inspected it. "And these things….. well I don't think my humans could make them out of sticks and stones." Jumping down, Kong landed in front of Anguirus, who sniffed part of the ground as they continued on.
"Something's not right Junior," Leo muttered dangerously as he suddenly stopped in front of the group, making sure they wouldn't go any further. "It's too damn quiet….." Then the sound of high-pitched laughter filled the air, and the group watched as a funnel cloud suddenly erupted out of the ground, and Leo dodged as the being in the middle of the cloud launched himself at him, and quickly fired his forehead beam, which the smaller creature countered by firing off some sort of strange sonar blast, the two clashing in an explosion as Anguirus charged and quickly slashed the creature, drawing blood from him. The creature then quickly popped out a lure, blinding everyone as they charged at him, and leaped onto the tower Kong had been on previously, laughing wildly.
"HEHEHEHE! Oh this is rich! First a bunch of filthy humans try to stop us and now you?! You idiots!"
"You must Deutalios right? Just as annoying as I expected," Anguirus growled as Junior started to charge his atomic ray, Leo's body crackling with green cosmic energy, and Kong's eyes started to glow blue as the Sacred Lightning started to crackle too. Ebirah tried to rear up and make himself bigger, while Neo charged his body with cosmic energy too. "Why don't you tell us where your friend is before we tear you apart?" Suddenly, there was a loud strange pulsing noise, along with a strange roar, and then the blue flowing through the city suddenly started to flicker, and the blue pillar turned blood red, causing everyone to look at it as the red started to replace the blue throughout the city.
"You're too late! Now Dagahra's gonna be the strongest thing around, and you fools can't do a thing about it!" Neo launched a crystal at the rat, who leapt off and quickly landed in front of a strange air duct as Ebirah charged at him, the crustacean attempting to grab him with his massive claws. "And what's more, I get to fucking kill you all! Hehehehehe!"
Deutalios's front limbs transformed into crab claws like Ebirah's and the two clashed while Junior and Kong listened, hearing something from underneath. "You?! You and what army buddy?! We got you outnumbered here," Ebirah yelled as he pulled apart Deutalios's limbs, getting closer to his face. "Do you even know how to use those you wannabe?! I was born with them!" Then Deutalios smiled and simply let out a strange loud screech, before he pulled away, and several dark shapes burst out of the air duct, followed by other similar air ducts around the city. "I just had to open my big mouth didn't I?" The shapes dived down, and Junior unleashed his atomic ray, blasting several shapes outo f the sky, and watched them fall to the ground in pieces.
"These must be the Gyaos! Junior, they're everywhere!" Leo charged through several of them, working on dodging the strange beams that came out of their mouths. Junior blasted one that tried to strike his lover from behind, and then tail whipped another Gyaos into Kong's axe, the ape quickly decapitating the bird as he pulled another towards him, using it to swat away a few more that had charged at him, trying to tear him apart with his claws. Neo sliced through most of them with his blades, sending blood everywhere as he fired off a corona beam, igniting several crystals he had grown to blow up and take out several Gyaos in the air, while Leo rained lightning down on them, more and more seeming to come out of the airducts. Anguirus's sonic slashes burst through the slicing beams, one hitting him on his shoulder as he groaned in pain, and watched as the two demonic birds heads came off. Ebirah himself still attacked Deutalios, praying his shell would protect him from the slicing beams the birds kept shooting at him, the two slashing, and Ebirah then briefly punching the rat with his hidden limbs, the rat summoning a pair of his own and clashing with the crustacean. A slicing beam then hit Kong, in the back, and wincing in pain, the ape angrily roared, a massive bolt of lightning going through the air and blasting a good amount of the Gyaos out of the air, sending them falling to the ground. At this Deutalios stopped his clash and quickly summoned his funnel cloud, going down the air duct while laughing wildly.
"He went down there! I'm going after him Junior, you get to the center right now!" Kong leaped down the air duct, followed by Anguirus and an angry Ebirah as Leo, Junior and Neo started to head to the city center, still fighting of several remaining Gyaos. Leo had several gashes and wounds on his body, and yet he still was able to fly just fine, while Junior limped forward a bit, not caring about his bleeding leg as he bit a Gyaos in the neck, and pulled out its throat, throwing it to the side. Neo was the least injured of all of them, and yet he looked back at the bloodbath he had caused….. wondering why he had been so savage with them. As Leo and Junior moved farther away from him, Neo suddenly felt his head hurting, and his hand began to tremble as he heard the ever so familiar voice in his mind. Leo looked back at Neo, wondering what was wrong with him, before hearing the chamber beginning to pulse loudly, and then flew after Junior, hoping that Neo would recover to join them within.
"Oh Neo… afraid you were becoming like me back there? You can't escape me…. not now…. NOT EVER!" Neo suddenly fell back, and felt the pain get worse and worse, as he felt himself falling away from his body, seeing it lying on the ground as it got up, and turned to him, grinning evilly. "It's time I gave this body a test run, and then make it mine forever…. You can't do anything Neo….. not anymore….." Leo and Junior had disappeared into the building, and all Neo could do was try and force himself through a strange dark barrier, watching as the thing in his body walked slowly up to the entrance, like the Beast was still getting used to a having a physical body. Neo continued to pound, trying to rip and tear as he tried to get out of this strange dimension he was in…. praying he could get to his body in time before the Beast did something to Junior and everything….
"Please…. I can't let this happen…. Not now….. not now….." As Atlantis's red glow made it seem all the more imposing, a white mist rolled in from all sides, slowly covering the city as the phantom stepped up silently, several souls flowing into him as his counterpart stepped up too, the red flames emanating from his body almost mixing in with the red glow of the city.
The Battle for Atlantis had only just begun…. a battle to protect the Earth, a battle to be the strongest, a battle to ruin everything, and a battle for the forces of darkness.
