Hi, everyone! I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 32
"A week, huh? It's going to be quite a long time…" Mizuki trailed off as she walked next to her brother on their way to the train station. She and her brother held their suitcases that contained their hero outfits in hand.
She watched as Katsuki gritted his teeth, veins palpitating out from underneath his skin. She sweat dropped at his behaviour. He had been angry at her ever since they left the morning after he found out where she was heading.
"Hey, if you're going to act like an ass, then go ahead. I don't have time to spare for my thoughtless brother," Mizuki snapped at him, Katsuki glaring at his sister. She gave him an unimpressed look, crimson eyes blazing.
"You little-! I'm going to show you that I'm still better than you in this week! You may have wo this round but I'm still getting an internship at a hero in the top five!" He pointed at her, Mizuki rolling her eyes at her brother.
"Yeah, yeah… I get it, Mister Number One," Mizuki said, shifting her arm that she held the suitcase behind her back. She stared of fin the distance, Katsuki eyeing his sister carefully before he let out a scoff.
"Don't you dare forget to contact me, MizukI! I'll kill you!" He threatened, his sibling briefly glancing at him. A small smile came onto her lips, Katsuki growling at the warmth that washed over him. He averted his eyes away from her in his attempt to hide his blush.
"I won't. As long as you don't either," Mizuki said with a small smile as they stopped at a crossroad, their feet coming to a stop. Their destinations were at different stations, their hero agencies far apart.
"Hey, don't die," Katsuki told his sister, Mizuki's eyes briefly widening. He gave her a sincere look before he walked off. She brought a hand to her chest and made a fist as she bit her bottom lip staring at his back.
"Don't get beaten!" Mizuki countered and heard his scoff, causing her to smirk. It was going to be an entire week that they weren't going to see each other. They never left each other's side longer than necessary. This was going to prove to be a challenge indeed.
Mizuki arrived at the train station not long afterwards, a few of the students already waiting for everyone to come. She glanced around. This was it. They were officially going to do hero work with pro heroes.
"Mi-chan!"
"Mizuki-san!"
Mizuki glanced to herself, Izuku and Ochaco waving at her as they walked over. They had big excited smiles, their other partner that usually joined their side standing off on his own causing Mizuki to briefly raise an eyebrow.
"Yo, Izu-kun, Ochaco. I see you're as energetic as always. I'm guessing that you're ecstatic to get to work, huh?" Mizuki asked, amused at the faint blush that painted their cheeks. They were too adorable not to tease.
"Y-Yeah!"
"We're ready for this, aren't we, Deku-kun?" Ochaco asked and the green haired male nodded. "I'm unsure of what's waiting for me and I'm a bit nervous but at the same time I can't wait!" Mizuki chuckled at the brown-haired girl's bounciness.
"Me too. I don't know what lies ahead. It's kind of nerve wrecking," Izuku said and paled slightly as a trail of sweat fell down the side of his face. He glanced around, a figure missing in his line of sight and gave Mizuki a confused expression.
"Where's Kacchan?"
"He's meeting up with the other group from the class at another station. He's been throwing bombs all over the place today, getting himself pumped up for what's waiting," Mizuki replied and Izuku let out a breath. That sounded just like him.
"Um, Mizuki-san, I've been wanting to ask this but are you going to be okay?" Mizuki and Izuku gave Ochaco a blank look, making her panic. "I-I mean you and Bakugou-kun are really close and your twins. You're probably not used to being apart for long times, right?"
Izuku's eyes widened at her words. Why didn't he realize this beforehand? Mizuki and Katsuki had always been together, not apart for more than a day. Being twins, they were accustomed to each other and expected to see each other.
"Don't underestimate me, Ochaco," Mizuki said and smirked, putting a hand on her hips. "A girl needs her space from her boyish brother. This is the perfect opportunity to get some rest from Explodo-kill. It's basically vacation time for me." Her words had them laugh uncertainly.
Despite her earnest tone, Izuku knew better. She was going to miss her brother but he had a feeling that Katsuki was going to be a bit worse. He was very overprotective of his sister. It didn't always show, yet he always wanted her to stay glued to his side.
"Mizuki, you're here too." Shoto drew the trio's attention, crimson eyes catching sight of the duo coloured eyes. He had his own suitcase in hand as he moved towards them, his facial expression as impassive as ever.
"Oh, Ice Boy." Ochaco and Izuku stared blankly as the nickname echoed in their heads. "I'm catching my ride at this station so of course I'm here," Mizuki replied to the male and he blinked a few times before cocking his head to the side.
"You're very indecisive with what you want to call me," Shoto stated and a vein throbbed out from underneath her skin, Izuku waving at the male to tell him to stop. Sparks appeared all over her body as she glared at him.
"Should I stick with calling you Ice Bastard, then, huh?" She asked, a threatening aura circling around her body as she cracked her knuckles. Shoto, who was completely oblivious towards the reason behind her anger, blinked.
"I would prefer if you don't."
"Ha! Too bad! You're officially renamed like that for the rest of your life!" Mizuki yelled at him, poking him repeatedly in his chest. She started to draw attention of bystanders and Izuku was quick to pull her away from the boy before she beat him up.
"C-Calm down, Mi-chan! Everyone's looking!" Izuku tried to hush her, the female giving him a killer gaze that made his body become rigid. "A-Aizawa Sensei is also here!" He added and had Mizuki instantly calm down.
"T-That was quick."
Mizuki scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest while averting their eyes. Izuku was shocked to the core. Aizawa was intimidating enough to even calm Mizuki down. It was surprising. He was a miracle worker.
"You all have your costumes, right? Remember, you aren't allowed to wear them in public. Don't drop them or anything. Make sure you mind your manners with the heroes at your internships! Off with you, now!" Aizawa said.
Mizuki went to walk but caught sight of Iida moving off in the opposite direction. He hadn't said anything for her to make snide remarks, nor had he joined his friends' sides. There was something up with him and she didn't like it.
"Iida-kun!" Izuku ran after him, Ochaco by his side. "If you ever feel hopeless, make sure you let us know. We're friends, right?" Izuku said, Mizuki's brows furrowing when the male turned back towards them.
"Yeah."
Mizuki felt a bat taste enter her mouth at his eyes. It reminded her too much of Shoto's eyes at the sports festival. She didn't like him. She honesty didn't, but for someone as righteous as him to make such a face. She couldn't leave it be.
"Hey, Four-Eyes!" Mizuki came walking in between Izuku and Ochaco, her best friend eyeing her with much uncertainty. "I won't see you for a while to set your ass straight so I might as well do it now," her words had everyone's eyes filled with angst.
She let out a sigh and her facial expression softened. "I'm not your friend, but you're my right-hand Deputy Class Rep. Don't let your feelings cloud your judgement and don't do anything stupid. I want to hear your obnoxious shouting as soon as this internship ends," Mizuki said.
The trio's eyes widened at her words. Mizuki was…being empathetic in her own special way and it took them all by surprise. Izuku knew she didn't like Iida. She had even threatened to kill him on the first day of school, yet, here she was, telling him that he was essential for her.
Mizuki turned to walk away, Iida left speechless at her words. He could feel the various of emotions push up in his chest as he stared at her backside. Her words hit him directly in the chest, stabbing his already broken heart. Of all the people to give him kind words, he didn't expect Mizuki to do so.
"Are you threatening people again?"
"Shut up, Ice Bastard! I wasn't threatening anyone!" Mizuki snapped at him as she walked on, the male joining her side. She let out a sigh and rubbed the back of her head. "It's irritating. Everyone in the class is giving me trouble. I'm the Class Rep, not a Baby Sitter." Her tone was much calmer.
"Mi-""Mizuki." Shoto was cut off by Aizawa as he moved towards them, the ash blonde turning to face him. She blinked a few times, a frown coming onto her lips. She thought that he had already left. Why would he be here still? And why did he want to talk to her?
"I heard from the Old Lady that you're still recovering from your injuries," he said and Mizuki's body went rigid. A trail of sweat fell down her face and she swallowed thickly. Of all the people she had to tell, it had to be Aizawa.
"I want you to take this," Aizawa handed her a piece of folded paper. Mizuki took it hesitantly, Shoto observing from the side. "Contact me if you experience any further problems. I'll see you in a week," he said and then walked off leaving Mizuki stunned.
Huh? What? She glanced down at the piece of paper and folded it open, red eyes widening. It was the homeroom teacher's contact details. Her mind went into a whirl as she tried to make sense of what just happened.
"Injuries? Is he talking about those you sustained at USJ?" Shoto asked, finding the situation quite peculiar. If she was still suffering from her injuries, it would explain what happened to her at the sports festival.
"Y-Yeah… B-But it's nothing serious! I'm experiencing a bit of vertigo from time to time, nothing life threatening…" Mizuki trailed off as she stared at the backside of the male. She didn't know what was going on in his head at all.
Mizuki stared at the number as she walked on, trying to make sense with what was going on. She was once again confused. Recovery Girl even informed her that she needed to show gratitude for the male and yet, she didn't know why. He didn't give her any light on the subject either.
"Whatever. I'm not getting anywhere like this… Moreover, why are you following me?" Mizuki asked as the divided hair coloured male still walked next to her in silence. She initially thought nothing of it but now it was starting to work on her nerves.
"I'm also heading this way. It seems that our agencies are in the same direction. What a coincidence," Shoto stated in a monotone, Mizuki humming in thought. They were going the same direction, huh?
Mizuki's eyes widened as soon as she was about o step onto the bullet train, Shoto walking passed her. He noticed her sudden halting and saw her eyes were wide, mouth slightly agape. He raised an eyebrow, wondering what made her act so surprised.
"You… Don't tell me. You're going to your father's agency?" Mizuki asked the male, Shoto turning fully towards her. She couldn't read him, not knowing what the answer was by his blank facial expression.
"I am. How did you know?"
Mizuki let out a breath face palming. "I thought so. It was too much of a coincidence that we were the only ones walking together." He stared at her and she put a hand on her hip. "I'm also heading off towards Endeavor Hero Agency," she said, her words making his eyes widen.
His father put in a request for Mizuki? That was very uncharacteristic of the male. He only cared about power and wanting him to be strong enough to beat All Might one day. Why on earth would he sent an offer to Mizuki?
"Wondering why he picked me?" Mizuki stepped in beside him on the bullet train, his eyes following her. "I'm wondering the same thing. I thought he would be the last person to send me an offer after I called him a prick," she pointed out.
Shoto was speechless. "Prick?" He asked in an uncertain tone as Mizuki put away her baggage in the top cabinets. "I'm…confused…" Mizuki saw the male's perplexed expression, noting that it was the first time she actually saw him react.
"Yeah, he concerned Izu-kun before my match with Katsuki. I found the asshole walking around all high and mighty. He went as far to blurt out that you would defeat Izu-kun since you were destined to beat All Might. Not much of a father if you ask me." Mizuki closed the cabinet and turned to him.
"I asked him to leave because he wasn't allowed there. I was being polite too! Then he started acting like a dick so I told him that if he stopped being a prick, then he might come near All Might one day," Mizuki said with a shrug, Shoto astounded.
Mizuki went off against his father and insulted him without batting an eye. He was once again reminded that Mizuki wasn't afraid to run her mouth. It was the one trait that she and her brother shared precisely.
"Don't…underestimate me…"
Shoto let out a strange sound, Mizuki's eyes widening in panic until she realized that he was…stifling a laugh. The laugh came out as a chuckle, a small smile forming on his lips. He shook his head, putting away his suitcase before gazing at her.
"You're really a strange one, Mizuki," Shoto told her, Mizuki feeling her wind knocked out at his smile. He was smiling. The only other time he smiled was after they faced off against each other during the hero basic training class.
"I don't want to hear that from you," Mizuki teased, her eyes flickering with mischief. She snickered as she sat down, the male joining her and his smile never leaving his lips. It wasn't long until the train finally set off, everything whizzing by.
He never thought that he would be content sitting next to her. At first, he saw her as a mere threat. She was violent, much like her brother, only to be shown that he was wrong. She was intelligent, level headed and for some reason always interfered with matters that didn't concern her. It was almost like Izuku.
Mizuki found herself softly staring at her phone as a few texts came through from Akira and Rinako wishing her luck. Katsuki let her know that he was already on his way and then there was one text that made her heart fill with contentment.
"Good luck with your internship, Mizuki! I know you'll blast your way through the week" – ChivalrousRed
He texted her. He waited this long before he decided to go through with his decision. Mizuki once again noted that he did everything to act like a gentleman. He didn't have to since he was already kind enough. What was she going to do with this male?
"Thanks, Red. I look forward to your feedback from your internship. Show them how manly you are!" – BestDesignerMizuki
Mizuki went to lock her screen, eyes catching the folded paper that she tucked in with her phone. Aizawa's contact details. Her brows knitted together. It was bothering and nagging her much more than it should.
Deciding that brooding on her uncertainties would only worsen the lingering headache, she put in the details. She was going to avoid contacting him at all costs. It was last resort. After all he already did for her, she didn't want him to burden himself with her own problems.
"Aizawa Sensei seems to keep an eye on you," Shoto's voice reached her ear, Mizuki's attention turning towards the male. He had one earphone bud in his left ear, his phone held in his grasp. He was entirely relaxed.
Mizuki huffed, tucking away her phone. "If you're going to declare war on me like Izu-kun, I'm going to blow you up," Mizuki pointed out. She watched as he stoically stared at her and then exhaled. She sat back in her chair and glanced out of the window.
"Aizawa Sensei wanted to expel me." Shoto's eyes widened at her words, a deep frown adding to his expression. "After the entire USJ incident, he told me that I acted rash and irresponsible. I went against his orders and fought villains without permission. He was really angry at me," Mizuki said.
"Ever since then, he's been keeping an eye on me. I don't know why, though. I'm not anyone's secret love child or anything. For someone who avoids the media and people like a plague, he's acting out of character. It's a bit…disturbing…" Mizuki stated, brows twitching.
"I see. Maybe he feels responsible for you after what happened at USJ?" Mizuki watched the male from the corner of her eyes. "You received injuries on his watch and put yourself in danger," he mused and Mizuki shrugged.
"He doesn't seem like the type to care about that stuff so who knows?" Mizuki replied lazily and lay her cheek down on her fist. Shoto's words lingered in her mind and for a moment she wondered if it could be the reason. She briefly closed her eyes and pushed her raging thoughts back.
"What about you?" Shoto blinked up at her. "You're going to your father's agency. That's weird for someone who dislikes the person, right?" Mizuki asked, not quite understanding the reasoning behind his decision.
"Yeah. I don't plan on following the same path as he and it's not like I've forgiven him for anything either. I don't intent to do so either. It's just so I can experience the fact that he's the number two hero with my own eyes and body and accept that," Shoto answered, Mizuki's eyes briefly widening.
She had concluded that Shoto and Endeavor had a nasty past, especially with the hatred that swirled in his duo coloured eyes. To have him change that much in so little time had her wondering what exactly happened.
"You've gotten pretty mature," Mizuki thought aloud, duo coloured eyes glancing up at her calm face. She wasn't sarcastic or mocking him. Her words sounded sincere, her crimson eyes soft as they gazed at him.
He looked down at his left hand. "Midoriya helped me realize the simplest thing that I was too blind to see," Shoto said and Mizuki's eyes filled with warmth. Ah, that's how it was. She let out a snicker and laid her head back in her seat.
"Izu-kun really has a nasty habit of meddling where it doesn't concern him. He's been like that ever since we were kids," Mizuki stated as the green haired male's face flashed in her thoughts. His actions and words always had a way of reaching people.
"I asked Bakugou the same thing. He reacted violently. He really hates Midoriya even though they're childhood friends. Yet, you and Midoriya seem very close. Why's that?" Shoto asked, Mizuki feeling a tug at the back of her head. Everyone seemed to want to know the reason.
"They're two sides of the same coin. Katsuki had always held himself above everyone else, believing he was the best while Izu-kun treated everyone equally, even him. He hated that. I, on the other hand, admired that trait and have been between their unstable relationship since then," she explained.
"I see."
He didn't ask any other questions, nor did he begin any new conversations. It gave Mizuki the silence she longer for, the ride more comfortable than she expected. He kept his music only in the one ear, leaving the other one open, her lips resisting to perk into a smile.
He was too adorable.
Best Jeanist Agency…
Katsuki stood in front of the number four hero, his scowl deep as he looked at the backside of the hero. The moment he stepped inside their agency he was agitated. It was turning out to be the complete opposite of what he expected.
The pro hero was a tall slim man with dark, heavily-lashed eyes. He had rather long blonde hair that he wore combed drastically to the left, covering his left eye. His hero costume consisted of a pair of jeans, a denim waistcoat, and a denim dress shirt with a high collar that covered his face up to just below his nose.
"Frankly, I don't like you." His eyes twitched in irritancy as the pro hero turned around. "You only chose my agency because I'm one of the top five most popular heroes, right?" Best Jeanist pointed out.
Tsunagu Hakamata
Hero Name: Best Jeanist
Quirk: Fibre Master
"You're the one who put in an offer!" Katsuki countered, his brows furrowing and his scowl deepening. If he had a problem then why the hell did send in a request? This pro hero was getting on his nerves.
"Yeah." The pro her straightened his hair with his fingers. "Recently, I've only been getting good little kids, so you were the first one in a while to strike a chord," he said while pointing at Katsuki, the younger male glaring at him.
"I watched you at the sports festival. You were able to freely manipulate a Quirk with high potential, and had a good grasp of application as well. You have outstanding talent already; good enough to recruit as a sidekick," he mused.
"However, you have a fatal flaw. You believe yourself to be the strongest, and you try to put that into practice, not caring about how that looks. You have a ferocious nature," he stated calmly, Katsuki's body trembling as his anger flared.
"Did you choose me to give me a lecture-" Katsuki was cut off as he took a step towards the pro hero. His arms and legs were instantly caught together with the strands of clothing from the pro hero's outfit.
"It's part of my work as a hero to correct people like you." Katsuki gritted his teeth as he tried to move but it was no use. "Heroes and villains are two sides of the same coin. I'll show those glaring eyes of yours what makes someone a hero," Best Jeanist deadpanned.
"What're you trying to do?"
"Isn't it obvious? I'm educating you to become an exemplary hero. The way you speak, your appearance, controlling your emotions, enforcing your morals. There are countless things to do. In the short period of a week, I will sew that into your body," the pro hero concluded.
Katsuki wanted to curse, veins palpitating out from underneath his skin. He chose this male because he was one of the top heroes. He expected to learn form him and see where he lacked strength. Yet, he was planning on treating him like a child and it angered him to no ends.
I chose the wrong agency!
Fourth Kind Agency…
"Tetsutetsu!"
"Kirishima!"
"Why are you here?!" They grinned and grabbed each other in a hand wrestling pose. The two males exclaimed after seeing each other, their shock evident. Neither of them expected to see other students from U.A.
The pro hero had four arms, giving him a large built. He had greyish-brown hair and small eyes with no eyebrows. He also had a stitched scar diagonally over his left eye. His hero costume was a plain black suit with a blueish-coloured tie. His jaw had a metal casting as well as his neck.
Hero Name: Fourth Kind
Quirk: Quad Arms
"We were able to put two offers in. Let's get started without ado," Fourth Kind spoke up as he stood behind his desk. He had two of his arms crossed over his chest and his other two hands rested on his hips.
"I look forward to working with you!"
Fourth Kind sat down as they bowed in respect. "I saw your guts at the sports festival. I like you two. However, being a hero's not so easy that you can reply on brute force alone. I'll teach you that as someone with more experience," he informed them.
"As expected of the Chivalrous Hero!"
"So manly!"
The pro hero slammed his hand onto the table, his eyes twitching. "Wait for me to finish!" He snapped, the two males bowing in apology. "I'll teach you manners properly, too!" The two males stood up straight.
"Thank you very much!"
The day was slowly starting to come to an end, the sun setting slowly and painting the sky in its beautiful hues. Mizuki slumber in on their trip, her head resting against the chair, her eyes closed and her expression peaceful.
Meanwhile, Shoto had also rested his eyes as he listened to his soothing music. It was peculiar. He didn't expect that sitting next to Mizuki would be this contented. He was once again reminded that she wasn't nearly as aggressive as her brother.
MIzuki's phone stirred on her lap as the train came to a stop. Crimson eyes fluttered open and trailed towards her smartphone. She blinked a few times, taking in everything around her as she analysed her current situation.
"Did you rest well?"
Mizuki lazily looked at Shoto, the male taken back by her groggy expression. It was strangely…cute? Wait, what? She resisted a yawn and ruffled her own hair as she slowly returned to her fully consciousness.
"Mm-hm. I guess we're here, huh?" Mizuki asked as she stretched out her stiff limbs from sitting too long. She only wanted to rest her eyes for a few moments and before she knew it, she was sleeping soundly in the nothingness.
"Yeah, we should be able to get to the agency in ten minutes," Shoto replied as he put away his earphones, pocketing his phone as he stood up. Mizuki hummed in response, standing up with another stretch.
She glanced at her phone, brows raising as she looked over her messages. It seemed like the others had already arrived at their agencies, a few of them sending her messages. Were they the only ones who hadn't arrived?
"Tetsutetsu and I are at the same agency! Man, what a surprise! Fourth Kind is so manly, he promised to beat everything we need to know in us! Hope things are going well your side," – Chivalrous Red.
"This Son of a Bitch gave me a lecturing about how to behave. He put in a request to educate me! I'm going to blow him up along with his agency!" - ExplodoKillBrother
Mizuki paled at the last text she received. She took her baggage along as she blindly followed Shoto's backside. It seemed like her brother was going to have an extremely hard time at Best Jeanist's agency. She felt her heart go out towards him.
Poor guy. I hope that things turn out like Red's excitement. She thought, mentally sending her brother a good luck. His behaviour seemed to attract very unwanted attention but if that hero thought he could change her brother, then he was in over his head.
Her phone started to vibrate uncontrollably, Mizuki raising an eyebrow at the caller ID. Shoto briefly glanced at her screen, catching sight of the name of the person calling. They shared a look before Mizuki answered.
"Izu-kun? Are you alright? Did something happen?"
"Mi-chan! M-My costume!" Mizuki had to hold her phone a bit away from her ear from his exclaim. She blinked twice before smirking. That was right. She forgot that she made adjustments to the male's costume prior to the sports festival.
"Not finding the words, huh, Izu-kun? I went and made the changes after watching your fight with your Quirk. Do you like it?" Mizuki asked, a part of her crossing her fingers in hopes that he would approve.
"I-I do but this is…a lot… I read the manual that was put out as well. Iron sole boots, extra firm fibre sewn in the material, heat resistance coverage, shock resistant gloves, gas mask…" He listed the changes and Mizuki smirked.
"What? I like going over the top! Besides, I wouldn't want my best friend going out with a costume that's fragile. You need to look cool on the job, Izu-kun," Mizuki replied, Shoto listening idly to her replies.
"Mi-chan… Thank you! I'll be sure to wear it with pride!" Mizuki grunted in satisfaction. "How are things going on your side? Did you arrive at your agency yet?" Izuku asked and Mizuki shook her head.
"No, Ice Bastard and I are on our way now. It looks like we're going to have to cope with each other for the next week," Mizuki replied, giving Shoto a teasing look that he didn't notice, causing her to sweat drop.
"Eh? Todoroki-kun is there too?! That reminds me, you never said where you were going on your internship…" Izuku trailed off. Mizuki found the question ironic, the green haired male also not informing her of his whereabouts.
"Endeavor Hero Agency."
"I see. You chose-Eh? ENDEAVOR?! W-W-What? Y-You're kidding, right? He sent an offer for you and you accepted? Are you sure about this? Didn't you get on his bad side at the festival?" Izuku asked worriedly and Mizuki huffed.
"Don't worry yourself about me when you didn't even tell me where you're going." She heard a visible gulp. "Besides, I'm here as an intern to learn as much as 'n possibly can. He's a professional, right? I'm sure he'll act like one too," Mizuki replied, Shoto averting his eyes away from here.
Sorry, Mizuki. But he won't. He probably has an agenda behind his offer that he put in. That scumbag won't do anything on a whim. Shoto thought, his lips twitching in a small frown. All he could do was hope for the best despite knowing his father too well.
"If you say so, Mi-chan… Oh! I have to go! Good luck that side!"
"You too. Don't get in too much trouble!" Mizuki said and rang off after they said their goodbyes. She smiled at her phone, happiness swelling in her chest. He liked it. he really liked her costume designing.
"We're here," Shoto's voice cut off her thoughts causing crimson eyes to look up at the large, towering building in front of them. It was huge and the number of floors almost seemed endless at its hight.
He really likes being high and mighty, huh? Mizuki thought to herself and swallowed thickly. She hoped that her own words weren't going to bite her in the ass later. She didn't know this man at all, and every single impression she received was bad.
She took in the building's features, brows knitting together. This was the hero agency of the number two hero. In front of her stood the reality of pro heroes. This was going to be her first step into her own future.
It was thrilling.
She caught sight of Shoto as he waited for her and smirked. She joined his side as they walked onwards, red eyes scanning everything around her. It was rowdy, chattering and laughing all around. It was a typical city vibe.
"Hey, Ice Bastard. Have you ever been here before?" Mizuki asked as they stopped by one of the traffic lights that warned them to stop. The cars whizzed passed them, the two students waiting or their signal to walk.
"No. This is my first time," he answered, Mizuki grunting in reply. She started to notice the tinge of tension that was in his shoulders. He still held his head high as he walked on, his face as impassive as possible.
They stepped inside the large building, glass doors sliding open for the two students. It was incredibly busy. Mizuki's eyes briefly widened as she took in the several counters and sidekicks that moved about.
"Welcome to the Endeavor Offices!" A female spoke up, her grin wide and her red-orange eyes burning brightly. Mizuki took in her features, the familiarity tugging in the back of her head. She had seen her somewhere before.
Moe Kamiji
Hero Name: Burnin
Quirk: Unknown
She had long flaming green hair with two bangs on each side and a wider bang going from the centre of her forehead to the right. She wore a light-grey jacket. Her collar, belt and wrist guards were black with a smaller red line.
She wore a belt with a temperature gauge on the front and a fire extinguisher on the back, black knee-high socks and short black boots with a black mask. Mizuki felt her hand twitch, the need to sketch the outfit great.
"I'm Burning and we're the Flaming Hot sidekicks!" She announced loudly, Mizuki watching as a few other sidekicks struck a pose right next to her. They were very lively. Something the ash blonde didn't expect.
"Endeavor's waiting for you, Shoto and… What's your name again?" The female asked, cocking her head to the side. "Oh! Mizuki! You're the kid that nearly blew up half of the stage at the sports festival!" She laughed loudly.
"Nice to meet you," Mizuki bowed slightly, everyone briefly stunned at the female's calm behaviour and actions. Shoto perceived the gleam in her eyes and resisted a smile. She was taking Aizawa's words into practice.
"Same here! We're going to put you to good use! But before that, Endeavor's waiting for you in his office! I'll escort you!" Burnin stated, turning around as she walked off, the two students following her.
Burnin seemed to be a very fiery person and she was enthusiastic beyond what Mizuki was used to. She gave her a bit of déjà vu and she wondered how Katsuki would react in the female's presence. It would be something for the eyes.
"Here we are!" Burnin pointed at the office doors, knocking soon after. "The two interns are here! Can I let them in?" She asked, Mizuki observing the female. How did someone like Endeavor have a sidekick like Burnin. It was absurd.
Burnin soon moved to the side, Shoto and Mizuki glancing at each other before they stepped inside the enormously spacious office of the number two hero. Mizuki had many comments that she wanted to share but managed to keep her lips sealed.
"I have been waiting for you, Shoto." Endeavor spoke up, standing by his desk on the other side of the room. She felt a piece of her temper flare at the male's presence, recalling the flames he ignited within her not too long ago.
"You girl, it seems that you do want to reach higher heights despite your flawed actions," Endeavor said, blue eyes looking down on the ash blonde. A vein pulsed out from her forehead and her one eye twitched.
"It's Mizuki. I'm grateful for your offer. I came here to see where I can improve and grow as a future hero," she replied, her tone strained. It was taking everything inside her not to beat him up or run her mouth.
He scoffed and looked at Shoto. "It seems you are finally ready to take the path of the mighty, huh? Befriending people such as her is a bad influence on your future," Endeavor told the male, more veins palpitating out of Mizuki's skin.
"I have no intention of going down a path you made. I will take my own path, much like I will make my own friends," Shoto answered his father with a cold gaze. The flaming hero didn't seem like he was fazed by the boy's words at all.
"Well, my intentions are only to show you what it is that the number two hero does. I have no intention of training anyone who don't know their place," his heated gaze went towards Mizuki, the female frowning.
"You showed promise at the sports festival, but you have an ill-mannered temper. Your way of fighting is disgraceful and defective. In this following week, I will show you to know your place. Respect must be earned," he said ad had Mizuki finally reach the end of her patience.
"I came here to learn and actually expected a grown man like you to act professionally. You're acting like a dog, licking an insignificant wound and now you want to push your dominance onto someone who bit back," Mizuki stated, the males' eyes widening.
"You can try your best, but I won't yield to you. Respect must be earned? Great, then you already know where I stand with you," Mizuki then smirked darkly. "Come at me, Endeavor. I'll blow through anything you throw at me!" She declared proudly.
"Mizuki…" Shoto was stunned by her words. He was waiting for her outburst, but it turned out different than what he expected. His father was forcing down his status and power and she wasn't having any of it.
Endeavor stared at the young girl, her eyes blazing as she glared up at him. Sparks appeared over her hand palms, her grin widening in a challenging way. He waited for her to step right into his provocation and she did.
He needed to learn her place. She was the only one who dared to speak to him in a disrespectful way. She was an eyesore with her fighting and became an irritancy for him. He was going to show her that she was going to yield to him, one way or another.
"Oh well, you both should get ready. We're going out," Endeavor said, not commenting on anything Mizuki said. Mizuki eyed him carefully watching as he walked off and raising an eyebrow at the sudden decision.
"Where? To do what?"
"if this incident follows precedent, then the hero killer will appear in Hosu City again. We will go to Hosu for a time on a business trip and work there," he said and Mizuki frowned. Hero Killer. It was the one that attacked Iida's older brother.
"Contact Hosu City immediately!"
His sidekicks immediately replied, running off to do what they were told. His words were strong and absolute. Even if he was an insufferable person, he was still the number two hero. The reasoning behind it all was Mizuki's goal to find.
"Get changed into your costumes. We leave as soon as possible. Don't be late," his tone fell slightly as he looked at Mizuki. The ash blonde female glared at him as she watched his broad backside walk off.
"I'm going to kill him before we get to Hosu," Mizuki muttered underneath her breath, Shoto sighing next to her. He felt somewhat the same. Unfortunately, he had to appreciate the judgment and instincts of the number two hero.
They were both taken towards the changing rooms by one of the assistants, the female smiling kindly as she helped them along. She was kind enough to take Mizuki's baggage as well. The men and the female changing rooms were next to each other, the students separated by different doors.
Mizuki let out a breath she didn't know she held and put down her metal case. She stretched her neck slightly, opening up her metal case that revealed her costume. It was going to be an incredibly long week.
She changed into her outfit, satisfied that it still fit perfectly despite the new changes that Mei made. There were a few tweaks, Mizuki's brows twitching. The tubes were made of a metal alloy that were resistant towards much higher temperatures, the metal alloy also sewn in her costume.
She scanned over the manual, brows furrowing when she read a new addition. Cooling System. She closed the case as she finished up reading, a smirk forming onto her lips. That girl is an absolute genius!
She stepped out of the changing room, Shoto adjusting his sleeves from his new costume that Mizuki rapidly analysed. It consisted of a dark blue jacket with elbow length, sleeves, it's collar high and joined in the centre by a grey neckpiece, baggy pants of the same colour.
He wore a metal-plated combat vest and white boots with a brown utility belt around his waist. Attached to the belt were little metal capsules that hung off the front. Mizuki was filled with relief and nodded in approval.
"This one looks much better. The other one you had did nothing but embarrass your image," Mizuki stated as she grinned in satisfaction. Shoto glanced between Mizuki and his clothing, taking in her words.
"Is that so…?" He murmured to himself as he looked down at his costume. "I caught sight of your costume adjustments you did and incorporated some the ideas in the designing." Mizuki flushed at his words. He took her advice on her designing?
"I see you're done putting on your costume. Let's go," Endeavor called out towards him, taking in the appearance of the two students. He turned his back towards them and walked off, the duo following him.
"This way, Endeavor Sir," the chauffeur spoke up as he stood by the car, the door opened for them to enter. Mizuki adjusted her gauntlets on her wrists, flexing her fingers before looking at the car. They were traveling by road. Odd, she thought they would travel by train.
"Ladies first."
"Ha? Hell no. I'm not sitting next to him. You can take the lead on this one, Mister Recommended Student," Mizuki countered Shoto and he frowned. Luckily for the two of them, Endeavor went to sit on the front and they each let out a breath.
They both entered the car, the door snapping closed as the older male climbed in the driver seat. He was quick to start the car and drove them away smoothly. He was good at slipping through the traffic, not letting his expression falter.
"Since this is your first internship, I'm going to have to bring you up to speed with everything. Listen carefully. I don't plan on repeating myself," Endeavor curtly said, Mizuki resisting making a snide remark.
"Regarding the basic hero duties, it involves controlling crime. When a crime occurs, the police will contact heroes for support. The requests will come all at once by the district. We file reports on the services we provided, like assisting with arrests or rescuing people, to the government office," he explained.
"Everything must be done smoothly and kept up to date to prevent possible mishaps. Being a hero needs discipline and skill. Only running around and solving crimes without taking responsibility is unacceptable. It makes you no less than a villain," he added, his arms crossed over his chest.
"I'm sure that you are aware of the consequences of irrational decisions." Mizuki and Shoto's thoughts linked as they thought about USJ. "You have skill and experience far above the others. You are to follow orders and gain more experience out of this internship," Endeavor stated.
Yeah, yeah, Mister High and Mighty.
