She had regained consciousness not long after fainting, a water bottle provided to her immediately. But she didn't take it. Obito was saying something, but ringing noise in her ears made it difficult to understand his words. There was someone else in the room, talking to Obito. It took a moment to realize that the second voice belonged to Baki.

Her name was said again, and she finally raised her head. Obito was facing her, his hand on the side of her face.

"O-Obito?"

He gave her a small smile, "You passed out for a bit… Had me worried. How are you feeling?"

She suddenly remembered the discussion she had with her father, and his confession. What he did to her mother.

"H-He killed her…"

Obito didn't say anything, held her hand instead. He figured that it would come to this, that all along Danzo had been responsible for her mother's death.

"Rin," Baki said, stepping forward, "I know what you're going through is a lot, but there are two things I want to make you aware of,"

She sighed, wiping her tears away. Baki continued, "Your mother had a long affair with Hiruzen… it actually started before you were born,"

Her eyebrows raised, but she said nothing as Baki continued.

"According to what Hiruzen told us, Misako had been with him and Danzo by the time she got pregnant with you. Which means-"

"...He can be my biological father?"

Baki nodded, watching as the young woman looked confused. He knew that it was a lot to process. And a broken arm and pregnancy wasn't helping either. But she needed to hear this.

"Yes. No DNA test was ever done,"

She remained silent, unsure of what to even say. Did it even matter at this point? Her mother was gone, and Hiruzen never bothered to even approach her.

"Your mother also left a second flashdrive… for you. There's a video she recorded for you. Here,"

Rin grabbed the small item.

"What's next?" Obito asked.

"Yamato is filing the paperwork for Danzo's sentencing. Hanzo and Renzo will also be charged. Hashirama wants all of this to be closed as soon as possible, before he leaves office. He wants to avoid any large media scandal at the end of his term. Orochimaru's forensic results should be coming soon to prove whether or not the bones belong to Misako. State hospital records from where Rin was born will help us make that conclusion. But for now, that is it. I will keep you both updated as we go through the trial,"

Obito nodded, and Baki left. The Uchiha stared at his girlfriend, who held the flashdrive.

"Ready to go?"

"...Y-Yeah…"

He helped her off the clinic bed, grabbing her hand afterwards and helping her walk out of the station.

The USB port of her old laptop was broken, so Obito used his laptop to plug in the flashdrive. Rin sat still on the sofa with her legs bent underneath her. Obito opened the folder and selected the single video file. He sat next to her with the laptop on his lap. Her heart pounded fast as the video began to play, showing her mother. Rin could immediately feel her tears sting her eyes as she watched her mother smile at the camera.

"Oh...where do I even start?"

Misako let out a nervous giggle, placing a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Rin… I am making this video just in case I can't tell you this...face to face,"

Misako took a deep breath before continuing, "There are so many things I haven't told you… primarily because...I'm just ashamed and embarrassed...and scared that you'll hate me,"

Her mother started to tear up, and Rin wished she could tell her that she would never hate her.

"When I got pregnant with you...I was in a very difficult situation… I turned to drugs and drinking to cope with everything… That's how I met Danzo of course,"

Misako wiped her tears, looking down for a brief moment before facing the camera, "Danzo wasn't the only person I met during this time… I… also met Hiruzen. He had been in an on and off relationship with Biwako,"

Rin knew where her mother was going with this, and unknowingly leaned her head against Obito's arm.

"I...ended up having a relationship with both of them… And then I got pregnant with you. I got so scared that I thought of abortion, but then decided not to at the last minute. And it's one of the best decisions I have ever made because you have grown into such a beautiful young woman,"

Misako started to cry, and Rin couldn't help but cry as well.

"You are the reason why I challenge myself to become better...to do better. And everytime I fail, I think about how I've disappointed you. And so far, I have been disappointing you from the beginning. I am surprised you haven't hated me yet. But now that you know that there's a chance Hiruzen could be your father and I never brought it up, I don't blame you if you decide to shut me out. I should've done so many things differently from the moment you were born… I should've taken better care of you… protected you better from Danzo. I should've left Danzo the moment he put his hands on you when you were just a baby. Instead I let my ignorance cloud my judgement and...look where we are now? Your childhood could've been so much better had I….had I…"

"Please stop the video," Rin said, and Obito quickly stopped just as Misako started to wipe her tears away. He then placed the laptop away and turned to her.

"I don't think I can watch more," his girlfriend said with a shake of her head, "She thinks I hate her… I've never hated her… And now that she's gone… I can't… I can't even tell her that n-no matter what, I m-miss her,"

Obito hugged her as she sobbed into his chest. He kissed her forehead before pulling her onto his lap, rubbing her back as she buried her face on the crook of his neck.

Despite being dark, Rin was able to navigate through the cave. There were rocks everywhere, and she carefully turned her body to avoid getting injured. She wasn't sure where she was going. All she knew that she had to keep going, that he wasn't too far away. He had been calling her name.

She climbed several rocks before nearly falling down, gasping as she caught her own footing. The floor was hard, aching her bear feet.

"Rin!"

He was calling her again, and she rushed. Her heart was beating frantically. His tone sounded like he was in pain.

After taking a turn, she stopped… Gasping as she saw half of his body protruding out from underneath a bolder. There was blood all over his mouth, his one eye opening.

"Rin," he called her name, and she knelt by his side.

She grabbed his hand, crying as she analyzed his injuries.

"Obito…" she says back, putting his hand on her cheek.

"Don't...cry," he says hoarsely, "You're too beautiful to cry,"

She laughs through her tears, "Shut up, OK? You're trapped! I...I need to get you out of here,"

"Y-You c-can't," he says, taking time before speaking, "I...can't feel my...half my body…"

"I-I'm going to get you out of here," she says determinedly, even though she's not sure how. But she's determined.

He doesn't say anything, feeling exhausted.

"I'm going to get you out of here," she says again, unaware of the man standing behind them.

He appears out of the shadows, the rock firmly in his grasp.

By the time Rin realizes that he's there, it's too late. He brings the large rock downwards, smashing her boyfriend's head. He does it again, and again. And Rin screams. She tries to intervene, but her father is unstoppable. And she looks down at Obito, whose head is nothing more than a bloody mess.

"That will teach you for next time…" her father says, leaving her alone with her boyfriend's remains.

"No!"

"No!"

Rin wakes up immediately, accidentally bumping her casted arm against the nightstand. But she doesn't care even as the pain flows through her body. She looks around the bedroom, panicking as she doesn't see him around.

"Obito!" she calls, breathing loudly. "Obito!"

The door swings open, revealing a wide-eyed Uchiha.

"Rin? What's wrong?"

She blinks at him as he walks over and sits across from her. The moment he does, she hugs him tightly with her left arm around his neck. Obito blinks confusingly, rubbing her back.

"Rin? Tell me...what's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare," she finally answers in a low tone.

"About what?" he asks. He had been on the phone with Madara when her screams echoed through the apartment. His uncle had heard it too.

"...That you were trapped under a rock...I was trying to get you out...and my dad… he… h-he came and...k-killed you… he killed you the same way he killed my mom.. I woke up and didn't see you… and th-thought that maybe it wasn't a nightmare… that it was real-"

"Hey," Obito says, pulling back and cupping her face. He gives her a smile, "Don't cry, OK? It was just a nightmare. I'm right here. I'm always going to be right here,"

She blinks for a moment before giving him a smile, "Thank you...for being here,"

He wants to kiss her. No, make love. He wants to make love to her. Slowly, gently. He wants to propose to her, make her his wife. Give her and their unborn child a beautiful life. One where neither of them would have to worry about anyone hurting them - physically, mentally, financially…

But she wasn't ready for any of that. Not yet. For now, he would be patient and wait as she mourns her mother's death.

"Let me grab you some water, OK?"

"Wait," Rin says, grabbing his arm, "C-Can you...stay?"

"I can, but you must be dehydrated. You've been crying a lot. I'll return in less than a minute, OK?'

Rin nods, and Obito rushes to the kitchen. He's back with the water in seconds, watching as she drinks the full glass.

"I want to finish the video," Rin says afterwards, and he nods.

He brings his laptop to the bedroom and sits next to her, resuming where they had left off. Rin nestles against his side, and he wraps his arm around her.

Your childhood could've been so much better had I….had I… had I gotten that DNA test done, and left Danzo regardless. Even if we had to live in homeless shelters, it would've been better than seeing you get hurt every day by him. And for not giving you a better life, I am so sorry Rin… I love you so much, my sweet daughter. You're such an amazing young lady and I know that you'll succeed in life! That you won't make the same mistakes I did. You'll focus on putting yourself first. And you'll find a good man who will truly love you. And regardless of whether I'm in the picture or not, I want you to do one thing for me. One thing… and that is, always be happy, always be smiling… because you will have a great life and you deserve nothing but greatness. I love you so much, my sweet angel."

"Soon, we'll be escaping this hell… and I will first tell you everything in person… and then I'll give you this video. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, and you won't hate me. But if you do, I understand. I could've done more to protect you. I love you so much my sweet daughter. And no matter what happens, I'll always be by your side. Never stop smiling, my sweet Rin. Your mother will always be here,"

The video ended, and Rin smiled sadly. "I wish I could tell her how much I love her...and miss her. She made this video for me years ago, yet it feels like she recorded it just yesterday…"

"I'm sure she knows that," Obito said, grabbing her chin and lifting her head up, "I know the last couple of days haven't been easy on you, but I think she's truly watching over you."

Rin slowly nodded, "Sometimes… I feel another presence… but it's not frightening, you know? It's...motherly. No matter where I am, I can feel her at times,"

The rest of the day passed slowly and quietly. Obito had a couple of more phone calls, with Madara, Izumi, and Nagato.

Rin spoke over the phone with Dr. Chiyo, who was relieved to know that her best nurse was alive. After talking to Dr. Chiyo, she spoke with Anko. Her friend was enjoying the replacement car Obito had gifted her. Anko also mentioned how she was asked by Baki to write down the events of the accident, that it would be used during the sentencing. Rin told her about her mother's video, recorded six years ago. And how sometimes she felt her mother's spirit around her. Anko replied to that with "she must be the reason why we survived that accident. I saw the pictures of my old car. Did you know the gas tank was punctured? Rin, we were lucky my car didn't ignite."

Obito had overheard those details, regarding the punctured tank, and frowned. After talking to Anko, Rin hugged him with her uninjured arm.

"I'm sorry about that night, Rin," he said, referring to the night Izumi was shot, "I was drunk and angry but...I took it out on you and you...you've been suffering the most,"

"It's fine, Obito. You were partly right about-"

"No, I wasn't," he interrupted her, cupping her face. "I made you feel guiltier, and then became harmed. And I wasn't there to protect you. But I won't make the same mistake again. I'll protect you… always,"

Later that evening, Asuma and Kurenai stopped by. Learning about the accident and the broken arm, Kurenai brought over some dinner. As she reheated it in the spacious area of Obito's kitchen, her boyfriend and Rin spoke in the living room.

"How are you feeling?" Asuma asked, sitting across from her and Obito.

"A little better, I guess? But it's been a lot lately, and it's overwhelming,"

Asuma nodded, understanding her completely. He also recently learned about Danzo's arrest, and how some items belonging to her missing mother had shown up.

"That's good," he said before clearing his throat, "I think you know why I'm here,"

"Yeah… Our parents had a long affair…"

"...And you could be my half-sister…"

"Yup," Rin said, and the two laughed nervously.

"I'm still trying to grasp everything. Feels like my father has been living a double-life this whole time. Actually, he has been living that type of life… I suspected something as I got older, but never had proof… and I didn't want to upset my mom, especially if I didn't have any proof,"

"I understand. How's your mom doing? Knowing that her husband could be...my real dad…"

Asuma sighed, "She's broken. She was going to forgive him but changed her mind the moment she found out about this. She's going to file for divorce soon."

"...I'm sorry…"

"Nah, don't apologize. This was my father's doing. The most he could've done was at least come forward when your mother went missing. He could've come forward, told us everything… and maybe we could've taken you in? Regardless of whether you are his daughter or not, my dad should have done more. He was in love with your mother, and knew that she wanted to keep you safe at all costs,"

Rin smiled, "So much would've been prevented if he had come forward. But nothing we can do about it now,"

"Except for a DNA test," Asuma said, and she looked at him. "My dad refuses to have one done...to see if you're his biological daughter. But I want to know everything. I want to stop assuming that my father isn't hiding any more things from us. So I'm willing to get a DNA test done, to see if we truly are siblings,"

"I would like that. And I agree with you on that. I am also tired of being in the dark,"

The two agreed to have the test done the next day, early in the morning.

Kurenai called them from the kitchen, and the three sat as she prepared each plate. Rin felt her stomach growl, knowing that she hadn't been eating well lately. As a nurse, and pregnant, she knew that she needed to give her body the nourishments she needed. For the first time since the shooting, Rin ate most of the food.

Next Day

Her stomach was large, and she stroked it while sitting on the grass. The sky was clear and blue, and she grabbed a flower and removed its pedals. She then placed the pedals inside a basket, humming as she mixed the different colored pedals.

"Oh, this one is pretty!" Misako said, who was sitting next to her.

Rin looked at the flower and nodded, "It is. I don't want to remove its pedals,"

Misako tapped her chin before her eyes widened, a bright idea coming to her mind. She shifted closer to her daughter and placed the flower by the side of her head.

"There! It matches your dress,"

Rin lightly touched the flower, which was being held by two hairpins. She then turned her focus to her mother, who resumed picking more flowers.

"Mom?"

"Yes?"

"I miss you… a lot… I'm scared and miss you terribly,"

"Scared of what, now?"

Rin looked down at her growing belly. "Being a mother and not having you around? I'm a nurse yet… I feel clueless...Lost..."

Misako chuckled and shook her head, "You will do just fine, Rin. Remember, I'll always be here watching over you and your new family,"

"I know… but it's not the same with you not being here,"

"I understand, but now that you've found me, I would like to rest…," Misako patted her daughter's head before rubbing her pregnant stomach, "But that doesn't mean that I'll stop watching over you, your baby, and Obito."

Rin blinked in surprise, feeling a presence behind her. She turned her head and found the male Uchiha lying on the grass behind her. His arms were folded underneath his head, and his eyes were closed. She smiled and stroked his head, brushing his dark hair with her fingers.

"It's OK for you to move on, Rin. It's OK to let go of the grudge, and be happy... "

She turned her head; her mother was no longer there, but her warm spirit was.

Rin moved the basket to the side before lying down next to Obito. She placed her head on his chest and smiled as he immediately wrapped an arm around her body.

Rin opened her eyes to find herself in the same position - nearly half her body over Obito's. She knew that they both had gotten to sleep late, but didn't remember at what time exactly that was. But she felt...good. His arm was around her body, as if not wanting to let her go. Rin could only smile, remembering how she had to get used to it the first time she slept on his bed with him next to her.

He was still asleep, snoring louder than usual. Whenever he felt more tired than usual, his snores would get louder. Knowing that his tiredness was due to the situation with her father, Rin felt bad seeing how it was affecting him as well. Every day he would make sure that she was taking her medications, eating, etc… Despite the two of them not being married, one could say that the lines between husband and wife were becoming blurry for them. And the fact that she was pregnant made that line blur even more.

Rin wasn't sure what she would've done if Obito hadn't been in her life. There were moments where she would cry and he would hug her, the hug being enough to calm her. Considering that it was her father who committed the crime, part of her wants to question Obito: why would he still want to be with someone like her? Is it just because of the baby?

The thought alarmed her, her eyebrows furrowing as she continued to glance down at him. Was he with her for the baby? Mikoto, Fukagu, and other older Uchiha family members had made past comments about the future generation, excited with Izumi's pregnancy and waiting for Rin and Obito to also have a child. Would Obito stop loving her after she has their child?

Rin suddenly felt nauseous, and she quickly crawled off the bed and hurried towards the restroom. Obito immediately woke up upon hearing her footsteps, sitting up and watching as she nearly missed hitting her right arm against the wall. He quickly followed her, standing by the door of the restroom and watching as she puked into the toilet.

"Shit", he cursed, standing by her side and pulling her hair back.

She stopped puking shortly afterwards, flushing the toilet and standing straight. Obito let go of her hair and watched her worryingly. Her hand was on her stomach.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to wake you,"

"It's OK. Morning sickness?"

She nodded before turning to the sink and rinsing her mouth. It was the first time Obito had seen any pregnancy symptom from her, which made him remember what the doctor had said days ago. How Rin would have to take future tests to ensure the health of the pregnancy.

"Should we see a doctor? Just to make sure that you're OK?" he asked, unsure of what to even do. He had no experience, and quickly knew that he would need to get advice from Itachi.

"Yeah… We should. Just to be sure,"

"OK," he said, feeling nervous all of the sudden, "How far along do you think you are?"

"I would guess five weeks? I missed my period last month so… I think five weeks," Rin then turned to him and smiled, "Thank you for holding my hair,"

He smirked back, "It's the least I can do, since I'm the one who got you pregnant."

She giggled, and Obito felt a rush of happiness surge through his body upon hearing the noise. When was the last time he saw her smile and giggle? His beautiful Rin.

Not wanting this moment to end, he held her hand. "Want to lay back down? I was enjoying having you sleeping over me,"

"Give me a sec to brush my teeth, OK? I'll be in bed,"

XxXxXxX

Obito stared at the ceiling, hearing Rin's light footsteps as she walked back into the room. He checked the clock - it was almost seven in the morning.

He scooted to the side and watched as she laid down on the bed. She sighed before turning to him.

"I woke you up, didn't I?"

Obito smiled, "I got worried seeing you run out of here,"

"...Sorry,"

"It's OK. It's to be expected with the pregnancy, right?"

She nodded, and he stroked her cheek. She had lost some weight for sure, not surprising him considering the ongoing drama with her father. Nonetheless, it worried him as her pregnancy progressed. She needed to eat more.

"I had a good dream…" she said softly, and he raised an eyebrow. For the last couple of days, it had been nothing but nightmares. "... I dreamt about my mom… she was telling me that she wants to rest. And it had me thinking… I want to bury her. I want to give her a proper burial,"

"We can arrange for that once Baki gives us the results," he said, combing her hair with his fingers.

Rin continued to stare at the ceiling, another thought forming in her mind. There was a slight pain in her right arm, but the feeling was nothing compared to the slight pressure in her stomach. It reminded her of the small life growing inside of her. Her mother's words rang through her mind; to move on. Her eyebrows furrowed in determination.

"I also want to see my dad today…"

After the DNA test was performed and they departed from the clinic, Obito drove her back to the station. Rin hadn't been specific about why she wanted to see Danzo again, and that worried him. Personally, he preferred her not to see that man ever again. When asking her what she wanted to talk to him about, she would give him a slight smile and tell him not to worry. And Obito could only sigh and trust her.

Baki greeted them and made them aware that in one hour, Danzo would be transferred to another location. Results from the forensic exam had also arrived, proving that the bones indeed belong to Misako Nohara. Although it made her feel sad, Rin was finally glad to get the answers she needed in regards to her mother. In addition, it made her more determined with her plan.

Baki led them to the same room as before.

"I can only give you fifteen minutes," he said.

"I think it'll only take five...maybe less," Rin told him, pausing for a moment, "And I want Obito with me,"

Baki nodded, and opened the door for them. Rin took a deep breath, grabbing Obito's hand. Her boyfriend gave her hand a gentle squeeze before following her inside the room.

Danzo was sitting on the opposite end of the table, his wrists handcuffed in front of him. He looked up as the couple walked in, hand in hand, and groaned at them.

Rin expected such a reaction, but she didn't care. She no longer cared.

"Ridiculous," the old man said, shaking his head, "My ungrateful daughter walking in here with her rich scum of Uchiha boyfriend… What do you want? My blessing? Huh? Is that what you want, Rin? A father's fucking blessing!?"

"No…" replied Rin, and she felt Obito's thumb rub against the top of her hand. It made her calm, despite standing not too far from her mother's killer. "I'm here to tell you that...today is the last day you'll ever see me. Ever again,"

Danzo blinked before letting out a cruel laugh, "You think you can cut me off like that? I'm your father-"

"You're dead to me," she said determingly, "You're a monster, always have been… And it's time I...distance myself from you. For the rest of my life,"

Danzo began to shout, but Rin blocked the noise as she opened the door and left the room.

"Don't you walk away while I'm talking! Get back in here," Danzo yelled, "You'll regret it! I know it! You think this bastard loves you!? He's an Uchiha! He'll take that kid away and then throw you onto the streets like a dog!"

Rin looked down as Baki closed the door.

"Actually," Obito spoke up, "Give me five more minutes with him,"

"Obito," Baki said with a serious tone.

"I won't hurt him," the Uchiha said, "I just want to have a conversation with him. Five minutes. I promise not to break his face,"

Baki sighed before opening the door, "Five minutes," he warned.

Danzo's eyes narrowed as the Uchiha walked in, alone this time. Obito sat across from him, leaning back on the chair and folding his arms across his chest.

"What the fuck do you want?"

"To finally speak face to face...with the scum of a father who has hurt Rin for years… and tell him that Rin is mine… and I will never let someone like you near her ever again,"

Danzo's frown increased, "I should've shot you that night-"

Obito chuckled, "I don't know why you have such hatred against my family, and personally I don't fucking care… But I love Rin, and will always love her. I will protect her, and every single child we have… She will have a new family, not just me or the child she carries… but the rest of the Uchihas as well. Your crime will not interfere with how my family sees or treats her. She will be taken care of and loved… They'll show her what it's like to be part of a real family, since you failed to even hold one down,"

Danzo growled as the Uchiha got up to leave.

"What, you'll think you'll be a better father than me, huh!? Come back here boy, I'm talking to you! Get back in here!"

Obito closed the door and looked at Rin, who gave him a warm smile. She held her hand out and he grabbed it, giving it a kiss.

"Let's go?"

"Yeah," she nodded, looking down at her stomach, "I'm actually pretty hungry,"

He leaned down to her ear, whispering in a low tone, "Then let's go feed you...and our baby,"

Rin giggled and nodded, blushing as they said their goodbyes to Baki and left.
