When You Love Someone

Chapter 30: Someone You Loved

Jane

"So how exactly does Jacob play a part in this?" Alec asked as I sighed and turned to Edward before he scooted forward on the seat and took out an aged document and handed it to Alec. Immediately his eyes widened, and he stared at him.

"How do you have this?" he breathed as he stared at him before Edward smiled sadly.

"How do you think?" He answered as Alec shook his head. "Carlisle and Didyme were the ones who originally thought of it, but Carlisle had the misfortune of being around a limitless mind reader for a better part of a century. I found it and when Bella needed it, I gave it to her. She found the rest of the ingredients and buried this in the meadow Eleazar, and his mate dug up. I just happened to be there first." Edward explained as Alec set it down and looked out the window at the darkened sky.

"And you saved this why?" Alec asked as Edward sighed and bowed his head.

"Bella. When she came to Alaska, we did more than just try to be better friends but I became the person she needed to keep everyone else at bay. She had family in Forks, her pack. Before she left with Alice and Jasper she told me that if anything happened to her to go to Jacob and tell him what's going on. So, when she was attacked" Edward gulped "I went to Forks as soon as possible and let him know. Safe to say he was devastated but he told me he knew what to do but to let him know of any new developments. Obviously, this is a new development." Edward whispered as Alec nodded.

"And they just stayed in Forks all this time? Jacob, this pack of hers, they loved her so much that they couldn't find it within themselves to make a trip to Italy and make their respects where she died?" Alec said harshly and he shook his head.

"No that's not true Alec. In Alaska, Bella made a call to Jacob, a two-hour call, and whatever was spoken Bella came back much more relieved and all she said was that Jacob knew what to do in case of emergency and not to question him. So, I didn't question her and listened. I made the trip a year ago and told Jane when she caught me borrowing the plane." Edward admitted as I raised my eyebrow.

"Yeah, I caught you stealing the plane and I told you that you could take it if I came with you. When we arrived in Forks I met Jacob again and Edward told me what he knew. When we came back I helped Edward keep this a secret." I admitted as Alec stared at me with slight hurt.

"Even from me." He said with a hardened edge.

"Especially from you." I challenged as he raised his eyebrow. "Alec you've been through enough after the attack. What would have been the point in telling you what we knew if it didn't work? If it came to nothing? It would have just caused more pain." I explained as Alec rolled his eyes.

"Well thank you for sparing my feelings but please don't spare them. I deserve to know of any possibility of her safe return no matter how impossible it is. So, what exactly does Jacob have besides the book?" Alec asked harshly as I sighed and turned to Edward.

"Well… you're the one who knows," I said tiredly as he shrugged.

"I actually don't. Whatever we learn when we arrive, we'll be learning together. I have no idea what's waiting for us." He admitted as I laughed bitterly and mumbled "Perfect."

As expected, the flight was short and all too soon it touched land and we were sprinting towards Forks and hopefully, some answers. The lush forest was alive with its many creatures but the creature I was most anxious to hear was the heavy footsteps of the dog.

"Where are they?" Alec grumbled as Edward stopped short at the treaty line and I kept my ears open when I saw Edward shrug.

"Puppies!" I called as Alec threw a glare at me and I ignored it. "We have a bone to pick with you!" No pun intended as I smirked at Edward's annoyed look before I heard the heavy breathing of wolves.

I smiled confidently as one silver wolf entered our line of sight followed by a familiar man whose look soured at seeing Edward's face. At least we weren't the only ones that didn't fully like him.

"Edward… what brings you back here." The man spoke cautiously as Edward stepped forward and I went to stand by my brother in case he tried to charge them.

"Quill, I need to see Jacob, immediately. Something's happened." Edward warned as the one called Quill looked sideways at his companion and I was quickly losing patience with the silent exchange.

"Oh please, you've seen us before, and we won't eat anyone if that's what you are so concerned about." I snarked at them as the silver wolf barked at me and I gritted my teeth together to keep myself from unleashing my gift. This was Bella's extended family after all. "We're here on business, it's about Bella." I glared as Quill's eyebrows shot up and the silver wolf whimpered before giving a great howl and raced away as soon as he came.

"Follow Paul, if it's about Bella we can't waste any time." Quill ushered out before transforming and running after his companion as we followed. I looked at my brother as he wore a neutral expression and raised my eyebrow.

He looked back at me and shook his head in silent disagreement. I sighed as I looked at Edward's back and bit my lip. We had to trust Edward and his friends to see, exactly, what they had been doing. Regardless of what I thought I knew I had to trust the creatures and I had to trust Edward Cullen that he could be diplomatic enough to gather the information that was needed.

The tribal lands were just as we last saw them, some young men were older, and I calculated that there were seven new wolves added. The one named Quill talked quietly with another man before Quill ushered us over and walked a few miles away until a tent was built, and I smelled the one they called Jacob.

"Jake! We have visitors." Quill said somberly before Jacob made himself known and his eyes were much darker with the circles indicating that this must have been a harder year for him than I had originally thought.

"Thank you, Quill, Edward, Alec, Jane; it's nice to you see all again." Jake smiled but it didn't reach his eyes and he was on guard. We weren't much better.

"Hi Jacob," Edward said softly as they shook hands and Quill looked between us before he awkwardly announced that he was going to give us some privacy.

"Jacob." Alec started as he walked forward, and Jacob met his stare. "What's going on?" Alec asked as I shifted my eyes to the chief as he sighed.

"Well, I suppose to the point is the best course of action." He mumbled as he stared at Edward completely ignoring my brother as he glared but stayed silent. "So, before I answer your question you have to answer mine. What happened?" He asked with a hardened tone and I raised my eyebrow.

"She's alive," Edward whispered as Jacob's eyes widened and he stumbled back as if the words themselves pushed him backward.

"What? She's alive?" He breathed as he moved forward and came close to Edward, tears in his eyes.

"She's alive Jacob and we have reason to believe that she is being held in a Romanian prison. There was another that was with her that night and he came home. His name is Felix and we all thought he burned with her. We were wrong." Edward sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose as Jacob nodded in disbelief. "When he returned, he told us that Bella sacrificed herself to be captured but the problem is that we don't have an exact location, and no matter where it is most likely it's deep in enemy territory and our government refuses to greenlight a rescue operation." Edward explained as he looked desperately at Jacob before saying "A year ago I told you she was dead and you told me that if anything new happened, to come straight here and tell you in person. Well, I'm here so please, tell us why we had to be here."

Jacob looked at the ground before he let out a deep breath and shifted suspicious eyes on us before he looked back at Edward. "The plan was for you to come alone; it was bad enough blondie here tagged along the first time, but I was specifically clear that no one was to come if the news was brought." Jacob glowered as Alec started to tremble.

"Jacob we are here because any news regarding Bella I have a right to know. I am her mate and regardless of what you make of that dog" Alec sneered "I was going to be here no matter what. So, I'll ask again but this time answer me instead of the messenger." Alec growled out as Jacob looked on passively. "What do you know?" Alec glared as Jacob looked him up and down and then cast a glance at me.

"I told you a year ago that you weren't welcomed and that any partnership the tribe would have had with the Volturi was null and void when she died. Your people killed her." Jacob hissed as I stood straight and held my tongue. "So why are you back?" Jacob asked me as Alec hissed.

"I was talking to you, not my sister!" Alec barked as Jacob looked back at him and raised his eyebrow.

"Yes, you were talking to me however my business involves your sister and that one over there." Jacob tilted his chin to Edward as he stayed quiet. "As far as I'm concerned, you're an interloper who attached himself to my sister, someone I only met once. I trusted my sister in your care." Jacob drawled out as he faced head-on with Alec "and she wound up dead by the people you claimed to represent. So, tell me Alec" Jacob looked down as Alec glowered and bared his teeth "Why I should believe anything you say regarding Bella Swan?" Jacob asked quietly as Alec clenched his jaw and I stepped between them.

"Jacob," I said as he stood and looked at me "I know what you said, I heeded your warning, but things have changed," I explained as Jacob shook his head and gave a sad smirk.

"Obviously they have but that doesn't change the fact that you weren't welcomed. I am the chief of this tribe; I am responsible for these lands. My word is what keeps my people protected – if you want to know what Bella told me." He stopped before looking at Alec who stood straight and proud as he never took his eyes off him. "Then you both will respect my land, my word, and leave until my conversation with Edward is over. Information is power; a lesson I'll assume you know." Jacob asserted as I clenched my jaw hard as I saw Alec ball his fists. "And right now, I can't be certain if you both deserve the power I have. I gave you a warning and you ignored it." Jacob said looking at me. "I gave you my trust that you would protect my sister and you didn't." Jacob continued looking at Alec who tensed his shoulders and his eyes darkened. I glared at this dog in front of us who had no clue what words he spoke.

"That's not true!" I hissed as he turned to me again "He did protect her!" I snarled before Jacob's expression hallowed and he came close to me before whispering "Than where was she for the past year?"

I glared as I couldn't say anything to that and looked at Alec, hoping that he would say something in his own defense. Instead, his stance loosened, and he bowed his head.

"I have no words to say to that." Alec started as I turned sharply ready to defend him before he brought his hand up to me. "Your right, I didn't protect her but that's what I'm trying to do now. I'm trying to get to her. Edward allowed us to come because, whether you believe me or not it doesn't change the fact that Bella is my mate." Alec whispered before meeting Jacob's stare head-on. "She is mine. Just as I am hers. That means nothing or no one will stand in my way to get to her. Including you." Alec stated, his eyes bright with passion.

"So, if us leaving requires you to share information that can make that task possible then fine. We will leave and respect the rules as last time. We won't feed either." Alec declared as I gasped, and Alec turned to me. "We leave Janie until they are finished. It's obvious he doesn't trust us and if what he says is true and he gave you a warning then we respect it. We'll go dog." Alec announced as I begrudgery nodded my head "But understand this" He said as Jacob crossed his arms "We will come back to this town as many times as it takes to get to Bella. You claim she is your sister; I'll respect that bond, but you need to show respect for my bond to her." Alec contended before he grabbed my hand and nodded his head.

"Let's go." He commanded before he took off and I took one last look as Jacob continued to stare as I sighed and followed my brother into the forest.

Edward

"Was that necessary Jacob?" I asked hesitantly as I saw them leave before Jacob relaxed his stance and turned to me with a glare.

'You tell me bloodsucker? I told you that you come alone. You disregarded my rules as well so what makes you think I'll tell you anything!' Jacob thought as he slowly walked back to the tent and I sighed.

"It was a complicated situation, Jacob. I couldn't' have come without them." I explained as he rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, that's what you said last time, and yet… I can't shake the feeling that you aren't telling me the whole truth. After all your reputation proceeds you." He hissed as I hung my head in shame.

"Jacob please, at least hear me out." I pleaded as he continued to walk deeper into the forest. "I told you she was alive, I did exactly as she requested. Now it's your turn. I know you don't trust me, hell I know you don't even like me but Bella did." I said as he laughed and turned back to me.

"She liked you or trusted you? Because I guarantee it wasn't both." He quipped as I shook my head.

"She trusted me… and I would like to believe that the rift I had caused with my careless actions was healing. Why else would she trust me with this?" I tossed the small bracelet to him as he caught it easily and stilled. "She gave that to me before she left. She told me that if anything happened to her, to go to you. To always go to you. She knew you wouldn't be easily swayed so she gave this to me with one simple message." I said as he continued to stare at the carved bracelet. "We will always be Pack"

"How do you even know that?" He growled as he gripped the bracelet and I stiffened.

"I just told you – Bella. That was the last thing she said to me. That was the last time I saw her. Please, Jacob."

He clenched his jaw as he stared once more at the piece of jewelry before he shook his head and thought to himself. 'I must be out of my mind'.

"Bella told me stuff too." He admitted as he wiped away at his eyes. "She told me that if you ever came knocking with news, that I should trust you. Why I don't know." He shrugged "but that you were the one bloodsucker that I could trust. Anyone else was practically a no-go. So before I start talking I'm gonna trust you Cullen." He glared before looking around "Are we really alone?" He asked as I nodded. No matter where Jane and Alec went they weren't in hearing distance and if anything I could always inform them later. Right now I had Jacob's trust and that took priority over Alec's thirst for knowledge.

"Good then here we go. That book Bella was hiding, it was filled with recipes on how to cure ailments for vampires. Do you know about it?" He asked as I nodded.

"It was created by a ruling Queen, a mate of our current King. She was lost long ago but was a brilliant scientist. Her recipes were wanted as weapons of war which is why she hid it away." I explained as Jacob nodded.

"Yeah, I know all about that. Bella filled me in when she called me; the rundown was that she found it, she learned about the murder and figured it out. That's why she had to leave, there was a recipe that was hidden – not included in the book, that was dangerous. It was the reason she was being hunted." He said before giving me and look and continued in his head. 'Which is why she also gave me that woman's diary. Anything that was missing or any details that I wanted to know I could find it in there but… I was also safeguarding coordinates.' He leveled at me as I looked on confused.

"For what?" I asked as Jacob sighed and started to walk again.

'It would be easier if I just showed you.' Jacob told me as I followed him into an unused part of the densely wooded area before a small shack came into view. From the looks of it, it seemed abandoned long along but was recently updated. Confused I sniffed the air and recognized Jacob's imprint Leah working through the window but what shocked me was I couldn't smell her.

"How is that possible?" I whispered as Jacob smiled and opened the door as Leah quickly turned around and we both gasped. Leah at the sight me and myself at what I saw was a complete state-of-the-art lab with vials of liquid that lined the walls.

"Baby, we have a visitor," Jacob said as Leah took off her goggles and shrugged off her white coat as she continued to look at me.

"I see that… why?" She asked in part curiosity part caution.

"We got some news." Jacob said as Leah shifted her eyes to him "Bella is alive." Jacob stated as Leah gasped and she looked wildly around the room.

"How?" She breathed as I shrugged my shoulders.

"That I don't know. From what we gathered she drank a potion that she completed but we don't know what that is," I answered honestly as she blinked and murmured.

"Well… that's something." She muttered before she squared her shoulders and looked me up and down. "I guess this is part where we tell him then?" Leah asked as Jacob nodded his head.

"Yep, this is where our part of the bargain will be held up, and when I see Bella again, I can do so with a clear conscience." Jacob chuckled as he grabbed a small vial and handed it to me with a smirk. "That, Cullen is what my bargain was," Jacob said as I looked at the hazy liquid.

"What is this?" I asked as I looked at it and took off the cork cap as I sniffed. I couldn't smell anything. What was this?

"That is bottled invisibility, it was a recipe in that book," Jacob said as my eyes widened and I stared even closely at this creation.

"When Bella was last in Forks, she told me there was a shack, an old one located in the woods. Once I found it, I was to do my best to recreate the recipes with all the ingredients Bella left us as well as her own ingredient that was needed to even make that possible." Jacob supplied as he got a gallon-sized jar that was barely half-filled with venom. That couldn't be…. Was that what I thought it was?

"Is that…." I gulped as I looked at the clear liquid "Bella's venom?" I asked shocked as they both nodded.

"It was a bitch to work with but that's why we take precautions," Leah said holding out gloves and goggles. "Before you ask yes, I was the one that primarily stayed here. In case you didn't know I have a biochemistry degree. Bella wired all the money she had so we could get the equipment we needed, and she also shipped this to us. It took me months to figure it out, even with the instructions she gave Jake…. I don't know how she achieved it so fast." Leah marveled "but regardless we made it. I also was able to recreate, what she called it anyways, a healing balm. It's supposed to work perfectly for vampires, and we have jars of the stuff made in case someone came knocking." Leah explained as I looked more around the lab.

"Bella told me on the phone that if for whatever reason, things became dicey I would continue the work. Of course, I'll admit science wasn't my strong suit and that's when Leah came in." Jacob said proudly as he hugged her. "She made all of these things just in case, well just in case they were needed," Jacob muttered as he smiled. "I knew she couldn't be dead. I knew this day was coming…. I'm just sad it took this long." Jacob smiled as I was still in shock.

"So, let me get this straight. When Bella called you, she basically instructed that you continue her work in her absence?" I said as Jacob rolled his eyes.

"Well yeah, that's what I just said genius." He said flatly as I slowly smiled at the completed potions along the walls. These would be perfect. We could rescue her.

"We can do it then," I whispered to myself as Jacob came up behind me.

"I assume you're talking about you and the others that left right?" Jacob asked as I nodded my head.

"Then you're not getting them." He growled as I looked at him alarmed.

"What? Why? Jacob this will help rescue her!" I shouted as he shook his head.

"Then I'll rescue her. I don't know what happened a year ago… as I recall you were skimpy on the details." He glared "but I do know that those two had something to do with it. Maybe not them directly but the people they work for. Excuse me that I'm not about to hand over Bella's most closely guarded secret to people who either got her killed or indirectly got her killed." Jacob accused as I shook my head.

"No, you don't understand. Those two are our greatest allies. Alec is her mate! In your language, it would be her imprint. If anyone has a better chance of finding her it would be Alec. They are gifted…. they have powers that are great offensive and defensive weapons and have ties to a tracker that can find her! With this!" I held up the vial to a skeptical-looking Jacob "We can go now; we can convince our government to let us have the resources to find her. We can bring her home! She isn't dead Jacob!" I yelled losing my cool as Jacob crossed his arms.

"All the more reason not to trust them… I don't even trust you! If you claim that Alec…that creature" He cursed "is really her imprint, then how come for a year nothing was done! That she was even in that position in the first place! You say it was some type of potion that she found or whatever, but it sounds like it was one big lucky guess! Well, let's pretend for a moment that it didn't work!" Jacob snarled out as I stared at him.

"Let's pretend that it didn't work… because that's what we've been feeling…. that's what I've been feeling for a year! If she stayed gone!" Jacob choked as a tear ran down his cheek. "Than she would never be coming back and her imprint would be at fault! If he is really her imprint then it's his responsibility to protect her just as much as hers. If she was in trouble he would step in. So tell me Cullen!" he spat out as he grabbed my shirt and his flint black eyes glared at me. "Unless I'm missing details then I consider him solely responsible for her death." He said lowly as I shook my head and he let me go with a growl as Leah rubbed his back and I looked to the floorboards.

"Look what happened wasn't Alec's fault. If you let me…. I can tell you everything." I said quietly as Jacob sunk into a chair and sighed deeply before he turned his tired eyes on me, the indecision shining until he slowly nodded his head.

"You have five minutes… make them count." He said softly as I launched into a brief, rundown of all the events that transpired a year ago. How Bella was influenced by the book, created the recipes, their fights, her fear of commitment, lying and running away from Alec, Bella and I's talk in Alaska, her trip to England, and finally how Alec and I went searching for her and the false trial that Aro planned to kill her.

Leah and Jacob listened with rapt attention until Leah gave a low whistle. "Shit" She whispered as Jacob sat there stunned and slowly walked out of the shack as I stared at him and he, very aggressively, punched a tree and gave a loud cry.

"What the fuck Cullen!" He screamed as I walked outside and faced his anger. "You couldn't have told me that a year ago! I would have come if that was the case! Why didn't you tell me!" He screamed as he shook his head and screamed "Why didn't she tell me! I mean damnit! She told me no more lies! She told me that if I agreed to take a step back, she would let me in! Fuck! Why did I fucking believe her! She's always been a fucking martyr why would now be any different!" He screamed and quiet cries escaped him as Leah rushed to him, but he shook her off.

"Damnit Edward why didn't you tell me any of this!" He yelled as I stood speechless over Jacob's breakdown.

"Truthfully…I thought you knew. I'm sorry I didn't know Bella kept that from you." I whispered as he chuckled darkly.

"Well, it seems she's kept a lot from me hasn't she." He growled as he turned to me and said "Those two I sent running. You said they have connections to find her? That he's her imprint?" He asked as I nodded my head.

"Good, I may not like them but if they tell me what I want to know then the diary and the book… their yours. You can take them… fuck keep them. You know more about this than I do right now." He said bitterly as I smiled before I noticed he left something out.

"And the potions Jacob? Will you allow us to have them?" I asked as Jacob sighed and spoke.

"You can have them… on one condition and right now Cullen you're not the person who can decide that. That choice is on her imprint…on her mate." He said flatly.

"That choice belongs to Alec."

With one call and twenty minutes of downtime, Jane and Alec finally returned with shocked expressions that I'm sure matched mine. With a brief explanation of the situation at hand, Alec walked proudly to a simmering Jacob as he leaned against a tree with his arms crossed against his chest.

"You claim that you're her imprint?" Jacob asked immediately as I stood and watched the tense conversation.

"Yes, I am what you call her imprint. I am her mate." Alec responded without any hesitation and I could tell from Jacob's thoughts that he may not like him, but he was impressed with his attitude and unwillingness to back down.

"Then riddle me this… Alec." Jacob said clipped as he pushed himself away from the tree. "Why did you allow your mate to come into harm's way?" He asked bluntly as I heard Jane hiss and her thoughts were immediately on defending her brother but from what I saw of Jacob's plan I pulled her back and shook my head.

Jacob was right. This really was on Alec and nothing we do will change his mind… he wanted, needed Alec to prove himself.

"Because I was a coward," Alec said honestly as Jacob quirked his eyebrow.

"Oh… and how exactly did your cowardness cost my sister's life? I know she's alive." He clarified at Alec's hiss "but let's pretend for a moment that she didn't. We both know her survival was on a chance of luck and her brilliance, but you know just as I do that it could have gone the other way, and this would be a completely different conversation."

Alec glared then but I noticed the slight shift of his shoulders, the slight tilt of his mouth, and the creases in his eye. All these little changes that I knew Jacob saw as well. Those little changes informed us of his shame. I kept a firm hand on Jane as she growled louder, and I hastily whispered "Don't do anything. If we want those potions, Alec must get them for us. I know you want to defend him Jane, but this is more than just a test… this is something deeper than that."

Much deeper because Jacob was the last bit of family that Bella had, Jacob was her brother and according to him this man, Alec, was the one that Bella would spend forever with. What does Jacob know of his character? It's what you do when you love someone – you get to know their heart so you can, eventually, let them go and have safe knowledge that a piece of your heart can be protected with someone else. Jacob gave his trust once to Alec and although he knows how it wasn't entirety within Alec's control, a piece of Jacob's heart was hurt. When Bella hurts, he hurts and vice versa. He needs to know that she won't be hurt again.

"I know. If she died…. If she was gone forever, I wouldn't be able to live with myself… but I would still live." Alec whispered as Jacob looked on curiously. "Death would be too kind for me. The reason I have continued to live all this time is that I knew she wasn't gone. I still had hope that she was here, but I admit there were times, more than I care to admit, that it felt as she was indeed gone forever. In those times I wished for death, prayed for it but knew it would be a mercy. I had to bring justice to her before I could do anything." Alec growled "Which includes making the ones that hurt her pay but… at the same time once that justice would have been delivered, I would forever be in your tribe's debt. It would have been my fault that you lost a sister. Even if I didn't kill her, I could have still prevented it. If I had only admitted my feelings toward her, if I had been entirely honest with her from the beginning… from the moment she showed me that cursed book I would have tried to stop her." Alec said as he bowed his head.

"I can't say she feels the same for me, I don't know how she feels for me." Alec admitted lowly "But I am sure in myself that I can admit the feelings I have for her. I – I love her." Alec said strongly. "I love her enough to do anything I can to secure her happiness, her freedom, and to care for her family as I do my own," Alec vowed as Jacob appeared emotionless but inside I knew he was impressed.

"Then you would care for me and my tribe… her pack as you would for your own?" Jacob asked stoically as Alec nodded his head.

"Yes, I would."

"Including providing the same honesty you would have for your family, even if you think it best otherwise? If I ask you a question, I will have your complete honesty? I could depend on your word?" Jacob asked as Alec stood straight and gave a firm "Yes."

Jacob slowly smiled then and caught my eye as he communicated the one word that secured our victory. "Yes," I whispered as Jane looked at me confused before turning back to the conversation in front of us.

"Well good, knowing that and having your word. I have some questions for you" Jacob started as Alec eyed him carefully "If I give you the potions that my imprint made, if you had them in your possession you would go after any leads you have on Bella, even if it meant defying your leaders rule?" He asked as Alec looked him in the eye and gave a firm "Yes."

"And if I give them to you, when you find her, I'll be there. No matter what Bella says, no matter what anyone says I can count on you, Alec, to give me honesty and to lend your support to my involvement in securing Bella's safety" Jacob asked, with a slight tremble in his voice.

Alec hid his surprise well but I could see the slight smile at the end of his mouth as he said "You have my word. You have my support."

"Well, then the potions are yours" Jacob promised before he turned to me and said in the same breath "So when do we leave?"

Now the day bleeds

Into Nightfall

And your not here

To get me through it all

I let my guard down

And then you pulled the rug

I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

Someone You Loved – Lewis Capaldi

A/N: Don't forget to review and I'll see you Monday!

Authors Insight: With this chapter, specifically this chapter, was supposed to be a lot longer than what it turned out to be. Truthfully, I had planned for Chapters 30 and the upcoming chapter 31 to be one chapter but as I was writing the first half, I realized this was a really cool opportunity to really introduce Jacob as his own character rather than this side B character meant to further the protagonist's goals.

Jacob is someone who didn't have much screen time in the story so far and hopefully, this explains why. In short, Bella, over the course of two conversations, told him to stay in Forks and guard the books and if something happened to her to continue her work until more news came and for his and her safety not to contact her until she contacted him first either by her or Edward. Now in hindsight when this plan was being put in the works (more on this later!) she didn't think she was in life-threatening danger since she had the Cullen's on her side, and she didn't suspect Aro. So, in the Romanian cells when she was talking to Felix she was surprised and worried that it took her months to come back and this was part of the reason why.

Going back to Jacob, up to this point in the story he trusted 100% what Bella has told him and when Edward filled him in on the extra details Jacob, in short, felt betrayed that Bella didn't trust him enough with this knowledge but trusted Edward, this person that caused her all this pain and now this new man (Alec) that he doesn't even know all that well. On Jacob's side of the relationship he has with Bella, that trust is broken, and Jacob now feels that he can't really trust Bella once they find her if they ever find her, and that is really heartbreaking.

I originally wrote Jacob's POV in this chapter about his conversation with Alec but I ultimately took it out so I can elongate it. I plan to add a lot more content to this scene, including that phone call he had with Bella when she was in Alaska. That will be an outtake that will be included sometime in the future. I'll do an official announcement further on when I have more content written but I do plan to remove the two outtakes from the main story and include them in a companion which will have deleted scenes, alternate takes on certain chapters and different POV for scenes in the story. I have some written and planned but if you have a scene you want to be retold from someone else, please let me know!

There will certainly be an alternative take when Alec confronted Bella before she ran from him and jumped off the cliff because I had written a good 6 pages before I realized that I didn't like the direction I was taking it and it would have sped up character progress that would be been better off as a slow burn lol. (The reason I say that is because Alec and Carlisle literally fought plus Alec and Bella had a mature conversation about their feelings – imagine that Bella and Alec magically emotionally matured overnight lol)

Someone You Love is a song that I perceived about the loss of a family member or really a loss of a loved one in general and that could be any type of loss. Either death, a toxic relationship that ended, or in this case – loss of trust with someone you trusted 100% in.
