Chapter 33: Eusine, Suicune, and a happy Pokémon
Ethan had stormed out of the Cianwood gym on the verge of tears, not because he had lost the battle, but because the Miracle cure was destroyed.
"Bayleef Bay!" Bayleef said, following behind Ethan.
Ethan ignored her; he didn't want Bayleef to see him cry.
As he ran the villagers took notice and most people just thought he lost the battle, after all everyone knew what happened when challengers lost to Chuck...
Ethan ran past the town with Bayleef right behind him, Ethan went near the Cianwood cave and hung his head down as he hugged his knees.
"Bay Bay!" Bayleef said trying to apologize to Ethan for breaking the Miracle cure.
"It's okay Bayleef, I'm not mad at you, I could never be, the Miracle cure was gone as soon Chuck began to drink it." Ethan said, finally looking at her, he had tears in his eyes. "Sniff, it's just that I'm sad about Ampharos, and that Gym leader, what was her name, Jasmine?"
Bayleef nodded her head and licked Ethan on the cheek, making Ethan smile a bit.
"Thanks for trying to protect me back there Bayleef, I guess that's all that matters." He said, petting Bayleef on her head.
Bayleef used her vines to wipe one last tear on Ethan's face making Ethan chuckle.
"Hey that tickles!" Ethan laughed.
Ethan then suddenly dropped his smile, facing him on top of a large rock was a mysterious looking figure that must have been a Pokémon. It was sky blue in color, it had what appeared to be an aquamarine crest on its head in the shape of a hexagram, and behind this crest was a long, beautiful purple mane. Ethan was taken aback by its beauty.
Bayleef took notice of Ethan's sudden change of expression and turned around to see it, her eyes lit up with awe as well.
"I-is that a Pokémon?" Ethan finally came out and said, coming back to his senses.
Ethan reached into his bag to take out his Pokédex and scan it, but the instance he looked back the Pokémon had already vanished.
"Bay!" Bayleef gasped.
"Where'd it go!" Ethan shouted, looking around still mesmerized by what he had seen.
"That was the legendary Suicune just now!" Ethan heard a voice say.
Ethan turned around to see a strange man who he had never seen before. He was quite tall, with green eyes and brown hair. He wore a short white cape and a purple suit with four violet rectangles on his chest and white sleeves, and a large red bowtie.
"S-Suicune?" Ethan said, he recognized that name from Morty, who had told him about Suicune along with Entei and Raikou.
"I only caught a quick glimpse, but I thought I saw Suicune running on the waves just now." The man said.
"W-who are you?" Ethan finally asked.
"Forgive me for not introducing myself." The man said. "I am Eusine, and I have been chasing after Suicune for nearly ten years, and this is the closest I have ever come to Suicune."
"You proud?" Ethan asked.
"Yes, it is a wonderful achievement to even catch a glimpse of Suicune. However, why is it Suicune has come to you...?" Eusine asked.
"H-how am I to know?" Ethan responded.
"It seems Suicune may have taken a liking to you, and I cannot stand for that." Eusine said, sounding annoyed. "I have been after Suicune half my life, and only know he comes to you, I have seen Oak's show, you are just a beginner Trainer, what could you have which I don't!"
Ethan started feeling uneasy around Eusine. Bayleef jumped in front of Ethan, just in case the man tried anything.
Eusine pulled out a Pokéball. "Ethan, I challenge you here and now! If I win, Suicune will surely choose me!"
Ethan got up and sighed. "Fine, I'm game, Bayleef?"
"Bay Bay!" Bayleef exclaimed, ready to battle.
"Go, Drowzee!" Eusine said, throwing a Pokéball.
"Drow...zee!" Drowzee yelled upon being released.
Ethan raised his Pokédex to find information on it.
"Drowzee, the Hypnosis Pokémon. If you think that you had a good dream but you can't remember it, a Drowzee has probably eaten it."
"Bayleef, we've got this!" Ethan exclaimed.
"Bay!" Bayleef said, determined to win.
"Drowzee, poison gas!" Eusine yelled.
Drowzee pulled its head back and exhaled toxic breath, making Bayleef having to jump back to avoid it.
"Now Hypnosis!" Eusine yelled.
Drowzee's eyes lit up pink as it shot an unseeable beam at Bayleef, instantly knocking her to sleep.
"Bayleef no!" Ethan screamed.
The asleep Bayleef crashed and fell to the ground, still silently snoring.
"You've got to get up, Bayleef!" Ethan yelled.
"Don't worry, she won't be!" Eusine said. "Drowzee, Dream Eater!"
Drowzee's palm lit up with psychic energy, it grabbed Bayleef by the forehead, and began to drain her energy.
"Bayleef please get up!" Ethan pleaded.
Bayleef's eyes began to open, she could feel herself losing energy, she noticed the Drowzee absorbing her energy, causing her to use Vine Whip to slash the Drowzee off her.
"D-Drowzee!" Drowzee said, shocked Bayleef woke up.
"Now Bayleef, heal up with Synthesis!" Ethan exclaimed.
Bayleef began to sparkle with white energy, recovering her health.
"Disable it Drowzee!" Eusine said, not willing to allow her.
Bayleef suddenly could no longer heal with Synthesis, she had been locked out of the move somehow.
"Disable, your Bayleef can no longer use whatever move my Drowzee used." Eusine flexed.
"Err... Bayleef, Vine Whip then, Drowzee's in close range come on!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef's vines broke through the ground, catching Drowzee by all four of its limbs.
"Drowzee, Hypnosis!" Eusine yelled.
It was too late however, Bayleef has struck Drowzee head on with Razor Leaf, making Drowzee crash to the sand.
Drowzee slowly recovered, ready to continue.
"Drowzee, Poison Gas!" Eusine yelled, Drowzee listened and once again shot out its poison breath, with it this time being too fast and unexpected for Bayleef to dodge.
Bayleef was zapped with a purple jolt, signifying the poison.
"B-Bay..." She moaned in pain.
Drowzee continue to exhale poison, filling his surroundings with poisonous clouds.
Bayleef slowly took a step to the Drowzee, each step got faster and stronger before she began charging for it.
"Bayleef, Vine Whip!" Ethan yelled.
"Bayleef will have to enter the gas and be further poisoned for that to work, you've lost Ethan!" Eusine yelled.
"Not quite!" Ethan exclaimed.
Bayleef charged through the poison, she used four vines to slash Drowzee from all sides, ending the battle instantly.
Drowzee was thrown out the smoke back at Eusine's front, clearly knocked out.
Once the purple gas cleared, it was clear Bayleef was hit once again with the effects of poison, Ethan ran up to her and handed her a Pecha berry, healing the poison.
"Drowzee return, you did well." Eusine commented as he returned his Pokémon.
"Congratulations Ethan, I can see why Suicune has his eyes on you..." Eusine said.
"Thanks." Ethan responded as he pet Bayleef.
"And here, your prize for winning." Eusine said, throwing something to Ethan. Ethan held out his hand and caught a bottle, it appeared to be a Miracle potion.
"You have one, thanks! You're a life saver!" Ethan said happily.
Bayleef smiled and nuzzled her face on Ethan's cheek, making Ethan hug her.
"We did it Bayleef! We did it!" He exclaimed.
"Hmph, although I now admit defeat, the next time I return we will do battle and I will be the victor, Suicune will respect me not you!" Eusine declared, taking his leave. "So, stay safe until then."
"What a nice guy, he kind of gave me the creeps at first but he turned out to be kind of cool," Ethan told Bayleef.
"Bay!" Bayleef agreed.
"Now, let's go find Finn and let's leave this place." Ethan said.
They ran to the Pokémon Center; all eyes were on Ethan. They had heard he had beaten Chuck, and everyone couldn't stop talking to him.
"Oh, you're ready to go Ethan," Finn said, he was sitting at the waiting room of the Center.
"Yup, I got that Miracle cure, and I defeated the Gym leader!" Ethan told him.
"Jeez, all that in two hours; you're something else kid." Finn said. "Now let's go!"
After seeing the Jet Ski and seeing Finn get on, Ethan remembered how awful he had felt the first-time riding.
"Alright Ethan, return your Bayleef to her Pokéball and let's go!" Finn told him.
"Uhhh, on second that, why don't you return it to the Gym leader and wait for a boat or cruise." Ethan joked.
"Bay, Bay!" Bayleef muttered, trying to get Ethan on.
"Alright, if you want to stay then you can..." Finn said, starting the engine.
"Wait, wait, I was just kidding!" Ethan said, returning Bayleef to her Pokéball.
"Then get on!" Finn told Ethan.
"Yeah yeah, man do I hate this!" Ethan said, getting on and grabbing Finn by the back.
"Alright and three... two... one, let's go!" Finn excitedly shouted as he blasted off the Jet Ski at full speed.
"Aieeeeeeeeee!" Ethan screamed at the top of his lungs.
After about two and a half hours of torture for Ethan, they had finally made it back to the Olivine shore.
"We've made it back to Olivine!" Finn said happily as he got off the Jet Ski.
Ethan fell off and landed his face in the sand, he had thrown up at least three times on his way to and from Cianwood.
"You alright Ethan?" Finn asked.
"D-do I look okay...?" Ethan asked sarcastically.
"Well, this is goodbye kid." Finn said with his hands on his hips. "I went ahead and put my number in your Pokégear earlier by the way, so if you ever need a ride over sea, you know who to call!"
"Thanks again, man." Ethan said as he got off his knees.
Finn put his fist out Ethan gave him a fist bump.
"Alright, I'll see you around!" He said, waving goodbye as he left.
Ethan readied Bayleef's Pokéball and threw it, releasing her.
"Bayleef!" Bayleef shouted.
"Alright, I still have that potion, right?" Ethan said, checking his bag to make sure he still had it.
"Bay!?" Bayleef said, worried Ethan had lost it.
"I-I knew I just had it!" Ethan said, starting to fret.
Ethan finally pulled it out and gave a relieved sigh. "On to Jasmine!"
After leaving the Gym and heading to the Lighthouse, Ethan and Bayleef finally made it to the top floor, Ethan left the elevator upon it opening and met with Jasmine and the sick Ampharos face to face.
"I brought it I brought it!" Ethan exclaimed to the girl as he ran to her side, he revealed to her the Miracle cure.
The Ampharos in her arms was still breathing faintly, he needed the medicine quick.
"...Will that medicine cure Amphy?" Jasmine asked.
"It must. I know it will!" Ethan told her as he tried to hand it to Ampharos.
Before he could try, Jasmine put her hands on Ethan's, taking the potion.
"...Um, please don't be offended... Amphy will not take anything from anyone but me..." Jasmine said.
"I understand, don't worry about it." Ethan eased her.
Jasmine poured about half the bottle in her cupped palms, the medicine was sparkling, it looked special.
"Please Amphy, drink up, it'll make you feel better!" Jasmine said.
The Ampharos raised its head and drank from Jasmine, he finished the dose, before laying back down, Jasmine held Amphy again back in her arms.
"Amphy, how are you feeling?" She asked.
Ampharos stood up on his feet, beginning to sparkle with electricity, proving it was back to normal.
"Ampharos!" Ampharos playfully shouted, bouncing up and down.
"...Oh, I'm so relieved... This is just so wonderful... Thank you so very, very much." Jasmine said, turning to Ethan.
"It was nothing, I'd do it again!" Ethan laughed.
"I, I can see... is that the Storm badge on your jacket... earlier you only had four, no?" Jasmine asked.
"Oh, uh... normally I wouldn't have challenged the gym, you know, while Amphy's life was on the line, but the Gym leader there, Chuck, he was a real jerk, he took the potion from me and refused to give it to me unless I could beat him, so I did what I had to..." Ethan said, Bayleef nodded reassuring what he said was true.
"Forgive me... I didn't want to sound like I was accusing you of anything!" Jasmine apologized. "I've heard stories of Chuck's... antics, if that's what you could call it... I'm just glad you're safe."
"Thanks Jasmine." Ethan smiled.
"And that reminds me... I never asked you for your name, who are you?" Jasmine asked.
"Ethan." Ethan replied.
"Well Ethan, once again I thank you... I will be reopening my gym as soon as daybreak tomorrow. If you like you may challenge me then... Or whenever you feel like." She said, petting Ampharos once more.
"Ampharo!" Ampharos cried out.
"Okay, see you then." Ethan said, Bayleef walked ahead of him to the elevator.
"And if I see that girl you spoke of... the one you called Lyra... I will be sure to tell you, see you." Jasmine said.
….
On his way down, Ethan had a feeling tomorrow would be an unpredictable hard battle.
