AnnaBeth had always been the peacekeeper, it was really hard for her to be so angry that she would lose it, but she could feel the rage ready to bubble over.
She knew when someone was trying to get a reaction from her, she was best friends with Lemon Breeland, and that woman could get a preacher to swear if she wanted to. But Chilli having the gall to ask her if she had spoken to Chief yet, made her want to explode in a way she hadn't in a long time.
Instead, she stormed through the common room ignoring Jimmy and Herrmann's ridiculous training session and sat down in the bunk room.
She lay back on the bed and sighed as she stared up at the ceiling. She liked to keep the peace, but she had learnt how not to be a pushover a long time ago, she just wasn't sure how to navigate the situation at work without making things worse. Yelling in the hallway wasn't going to solve anything.
Lemon would just insert herself in the situation so she couldn't turn to her, Jonah was just getting set up in his new hospital and she didn't want to bother him. Zoe had a new baby and Gabby had enough going on with Matt and his alderman campaign, she didn't want to burden anyone with her problems. She had been dealing with Chilli's erratic behaviour for weeks.
"You don't have some AB words of wisdom for Jimmy?" Kelly asked sitting on the edge of her bunk "And you walked right by Herrmann with those steaks strapped to his hands without making fun of him".
"Football I can help with; boxing isn't my thing" she said softly still staring up at the ceiling.
"What's up with you?" He asked furrowing his brow.
AnnaBeth lifted her head and looked over at the door.
"Not here" She told him.
She stood up and grabbed Kelly's hand leading him through to his quarters. He raised an eyebrow as she shut the door behind them and looked nervously over her shoulder.
"AB you're acting weird even for you" He told her taking a seat at his desk.
AnnaBeth choose to let that one slide as she sat down on the edge of the bed.
"Chilli spoke to Chief Boden about getting me detailed to another house" She told him.
"Wait, what?" He asked in disbelief "Why would she do that?".
So, she told him everything. About the erratic behaviour, the paramedic who had told her about Chilli leaving her last house because of a drinking problem, the time she pushed the wrong meds, the mood swings, and had now stabbed her in the back. She just didn't know how to help her.
"Boden won't detail you out, your part of the family now" He reassured her "I'll keep an eye on Chilli, it's all going to work out".
"I don't know" She sighed "I don't see how I can work with a partner I don't trust, maybe it will just be easier to move to another house."
"You've told Boden about all this now, just give him some time before you go and make any rash decisions."
"Thanks Kelly" She said standing up to hug him.
