A Sad Boy in a Tree house

Chapter 33

Strangers In The Night

"Ok, big moment here!" Mei put on her helmet. Maid-A nodding excitedly beside her.

"This is it! We get first place and there will be NO WAY people could deny how effective androids can be as hero units!" Mei tapped a button on her vambrace, several programs running through her helmet showing the current status.

"Let's see here. Free will, check. Technomorph limiter, check. Specialty inhibitor chip preventing sporadic A.I duplication to prevent inevitable global takeover to the machines? All two thousand and ninety three checks green."

Why two thousand and ninety three specifically one may ask? That's exactly how many published stories there are about evil A.I. For every worry expressed by humanity about Maid-A turning on them, there are that many reasons why she can be trusted to not hurt them. Well except villains of course, they should be very worried.

Maid-A could practically read her creator's thoughts. Her eyes began to glow. The orange hair extending, snaking, and ending in sharp tips. The shoes fell off as her feet collapsed, engines keeping her hovered in the air. Lastly, each arm split into three thinner versions all with dangerous yet elegant styled tools that could do who knows what.

Mei knew what, Maid-A knew what, and it all spelt bad news for the bad guys.

Of course anyone could be a hero with one of these by their side, along with Mei's personal armory on her. Seriously, what wasn't she packing? A standard gun, but who needed those when you had FLAMETHROWERS!

"We so got this!"

After all, they had ranged weaponry against someone who specialized in touching things to fight. Not like she had strength or durability to make her own ammo form the stage itself. It's kind of amazing that Uraraka girl had made it so far. That little bit of experience she got from hanging around Izuku really stuck to her as if she clung to it like her life depended it on.

Of course, Mei thought a big part of it was from Izuku planning stuff and the super suit he gave her. Izuku shared the specs with Uraraka's suit. Holy crap the self dimensional collapsing nano tech was something to commit war crimes for. Those wrist stunners inspired a critical function on Mei's own blasters.

Did Mei feel bad for competing against Izuku's childhood friend who had several mental issues caused by unknown baddies? Nope, she was a very capable girl who should have no pity on the battlefield. Despite everything that had happened to her she trudged forward. No money? Write children's books from your dreams. Memories gone? Make new ones while trying to recover the old.

Uraraka, had a going for her future hero career with or without tech support. Izuku was right, Uravity was going to be an amazing hero.

Too bad she was going to get her ass kicked on live tv by yours truly!

"NOW PRESENTING THE IRON MAIDEN HERSELF! MEEEEIIII HATSUME!"

Mei strutted her stuff as she came into the sunlight. Maid-A collapsed her intimidating form, put her shoes back on, and skipped happily along.

Uraraka was already there, eying her competition with no sense of joy. She looked like she was in pain, ouch, don't make Mei actually feel bad about this. But, just to make sure nothing super serious was happening, she should run a quick scan.

Wow, that was a lot of activity in the hippocampus. It looked like someone with dementia hyped on twenty pounds of cocaine. No, she did not happen to have illegally gone through all sorts of unique medical history in her spare time that might have directly helped her scanners.

"Hey Uraraka?" Mei asked in a sensitive tone.

"Yeah?" The girl looked up, curious for the stranger to initiate conversation right before the fight.

"You uh, feel ok for this?"

Bad question BAD QUESTION! Those were scary eyes that held more resolve than an eighty year old lady on bingo night.

"I'm ready, are you?"

No.

"READY?!" Midnight called out with whip raised.

But Maid-A was built to be ready.

"FIGHT!"

*CHIIIR*

Uraraka moved out of the way, switching between being weightless and not to zig zag across the field. Maid-A compensated, doing lower intensity blasts at a higher rate. Yet she had a knack for managing to change her pattern enough to barely dodge the fire.

*BWA*

But she didn't have the tools to maneuver as well as Bakugo. Uraraka's shoulder got smacked by one of Mei's stun blasts. She went down, rolling with the hit.

"Holy super crap she's down just like that! Is there anything that can stop this mean machine?!"

"A restraining order?"

"...Was that a joke? I think he just tried to tell a joke guys."

The speaker units popped out from Mei's shoulder, letting her advertise yet again. "This wonderful tool is easy to use, non lethal, and can fire three hundred shots until needing to be charged! It temporarily leaves its victims unconscious for two to three hours before-"

"Two to three hours, more like two to three seconds!"

If one could see the frozen expression of Mei's face, it would be very clear from her lack of movement. "Um, performance issues?"

Looking back around, Uraraka was actually getting up! And very angry, no, her brain was lighting up like a supernova! HOW WAS SHE ALIVE?! Wait, did she build up a tolerance to stun blasts from her younger years? Wait, that made Uraraka sound like she was old.

*clink*

Something fell from her shirt, metallic, round, nice sleek design with a sonic based emitter at the tiiiiiiiiiIIIIP?!

Clicking her speakers off, she ran up to Uraraka and grabbed the pen, examining all the holy features.

"SHIIiit girl, where did you get your hands on a sonic-"

"GIVE IT BACK!" She growled out. "IZUKU GAVE THAT TO ME GIVE IT BACK!" Uraraka was crawling towards Mei, collapsing and getting up over and over again.

"...ok" Mei slowly put the pen down with two fingers, backing away like she might bite her. You know what, with how this girl's hypothalamus is flaring that was a real possibility.

Uraraka started to sweat, her body temperature skyrocketing. She clutched the pen with one hand close to her chest, the other clutching her temple. "My head...it hurts.."

"...Is that it?"

"Yep."

"But there was no climactic fight! No big finish! Even that quick fight against the brain kid was more interesting."

"Sometimes fights go like that. Honestly this is the best case scenario for any hero work. Fast, no injuries, no damage to property. No hits were even thrown. Sure it's not eye catching, but this is what every hero should strive for. I might even put a personal request to get myself one of those stunners, maybe a jet pack."

"PFT, now that's an image. You, with a jetpack."

"You want one too."

"You bet I do. Hey Hatsume! I'm first in line for one of those jetpacks!"

"Uuuugh." Midnight groaned into her hand. "Boys, you're forgetting something."

"You mean you're forgetting something." Present Mic shot back.

"You're the ref, you call it." Eraserhead added.

"...Ah shit. MEI HATSUME IS THE WINNER!" Midnight cracked her weapon, announcing to the audience the winner.

The response was, lazy. Only a handful were actually excited and cheering trying to hype up the crowd. Too much was now on people's minds. Technology won against the strongest quirks, so what made them special if anything they could do some person with the right tools could do too?

"Izuku?" Nejire looked up with concern at the time lord. He looked like he was thinking hard, especially after that last fight. No response, he kept rewinding the same moment over and over on the tablet. Uraraka clutching the sonic pen and falling over.

"Izuku?" She asked again, sitting up from his lap.

*BLAM*

"I WON!"

*clapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclap* Maid-A patted her hands at super speed.

The two had entered the room, Mei tossing off her helmet and letting her matted down hair breathe. Of course, her android didn't bother changing from the gym outfit since there was no sweat on it. Izuku's hand shot up, catching the helmet before it could land on the couch.

"Mei, were you doing active scans on that last fight?"

"Huh, oh yeah! You should see them! I couldn't believe that Recovery Girl said that she would be fine for the award ceremony. Based off the readings-"

"Her brain should have been fried." Izuku interrupted. He had already plugged the helmet in a nearby computer and was going over the data. "Her neural pathways are perfectly balanced to handle the excess strain. Something directly rewrote her mind to keep those memories from resurfacing!"

He slammed his fist down, furious, livid at the audacity of someone doing this.

"Izuku."

"I've had it! Every time she tries to force herself to remember it's agony!" He turned one of the monitors around, showing them what was on the screen. Nejire didn't like how many red sections of the brain there were.

"Melissa got lucky, letting her background thoughts sort through the pieces and find the right pathways to restore her memories. Uraraka though? SHE'S FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE!"

"Izuku." Nejire approached with her arms open, but he didn't seem to notice.

"Not just for her past life, this life, the life she could live, THE LIFE I DIED FOR IS ABOUT TO VANISH!"

*SMASH*

He punched the monitor, the screen cracking around his knuckles. Mei was backing away from him, shaking in fear of how angry he was. Maid-A wrapped her arms around the pinkette, doing her best to comfort her. Nejire continued on without flinching, wrapping her arms around Izuku.

"I can't...I can't lose anymore. I've already lost my home, my friends, and I'm not sure if my family is alive anymore. I'm so tired of losing." Izuku let out in a whisper.

Nejire hugged him tighter, running her hand through his hair. Her fingers lingered on his scar, reminding her that this wasn't just some alien from a distant world. He was just as human as the rest of them.

"Ummm."

The lone voice cut through the room. Nejire loosened her grip on Izuku, letting an arm rest on his shoulder. It was Toru, squirming under their looks. It felt like she violated a private moment. It was now or never though.

"Midoriya, I know you missed out on the sports festival, and got hurt, so.."

"We came over to cheer you up!" Mina sprang from behind the doorway, others soon trickling in.

"Sup Midoriywoah." Kaminari paused his greeting, noticing the beautiful bluenette beside Izuku. He licked his hand, ran it through his hair making it look no better, and held that same hand out to Nejire.

"Hey." Kaminari said in a deeper voice, smirking and showing a little bit of teeth.

"PFFT!" Mina couldn't stop as both her and Toru couldn't suppress their laughter.

"Did you practice that?! HAHAHA!" The two held on to each other, Kaminari doing his best to keep his calm smile and not snap at them.

Sero walked in, immediately understanding what was happening. "Dude, quit hitting on every girl. You don't even know if she's taken."

Kaminari huffed, turning his attention back to Nejire. "Are you?"

Her response was to look at Izuku. "Am I?"

"I KNEW IT!" Toru shouted, pointing right at Nejire and Izuku. Not that anyone could see directly. "You two had this thing going on the whole time but I couldn't say anything about it because of all the!..."

"Because of what Toru?" Shoto asked from behind her.

"GAH! When did you get here?"

"I was always here."

"Hey Zuko!" Nejire waved to the boy.

"How many people are coming over?" Izuku's question was answered by a few more individuals coming in.

Tsuyu Asui, Eijiro Kirishima, Mezo Shoji, Kyoka Jiro, Fumikage Tokoyami, and Momo Yaoyorozu.

"Hello." Tsuyu greeted.

Maid-A waved, excited to meet all the people in a non combative setting.

"Hello everyone!" Nejire waved back. Walking up to the nearest person who happened to be Shoji. "I'm Nejire Hado, Izuku's something that has yet to be determined in a private setting. Why do you wear that mask all the time? Is it a quirk thing or a more personal thing?"

"Well, uh."

"And hey! You with the beak! Are you a bird person or a person bird?"

"I don't see what you mean."

"Oh! And you!" Nejire pointed at Asui. "Same question, frog person or person frog?"

"Is she going to let us answer before-"

"Are your horns a part of your acid? Also, do you feel anything when I do this?" Nejire started to fidget with the pink girl's horns, making her freeze from the sudden stimulation.

"Nejire, you really shouldn't touch those." Izuku warned.

"Whyyyyyyy…"

*plop* Nejire's words slurred until she fell down to the ground. "Eblabblebblub."

"Oh my gosh what did I do?!" Mina asked in a panic.

"Just secreted a paralysis from your horns on reflex." Izuku relayed, picking up Nejire and bringing her to the couch.

"And how do you know that?" Mina asked a little weirded out.

"...I'm clever." He stated, like it was obvious. Of course he couldn't explain to everyone here that the reason her horns reacted was that it was an evolutionary advantage to stun prey after ramming it.

*clap*

"Are any of you interested in a potential upgrade to your costumes?" Mei asked, rubbing her hands together greedily.

"Hell yeah!" Kirishima shouted. "Flamethrowers are dope!"

"Think you could hook up that sonic whatsit to mine?" Jiro asked.

"Jet pack!"

"Me too!"

"Guys, this isn't why we came here." Momo tried to get their attention, but they had already swarmed the manic inventor who was already redesigning everyone's outfits. A shadow emerged from Tokoyami's shoulder, staring straight at Maid-A.

"Do you have free will?"

"What's the point of making a friend if they're forced to be your friend?" Mei interjected, slightly offended. Maid-A nodded affirming the answer.

"Does that mean that we have souls?"

"..."

"Dude, why you got to get so deep?" Sero reclined back into one of the chairs.

"Ahem!" Momo interrupted loudly. "Has everyone forgotten why we came here?"

"...I'll be honest I can't remember." Kaminari confessed.

"Not surprised." Jiro rolled her eyes.

"Hey! I was making a joke!"

"Yaoyorozu?" Izuku asked, coming back from the couch that Nejire was laying on. "You have my attention."

"Thank you." The tall girl sighed in relief. Then reached into her pocket and pulled out a medal. "You have done so much for this class, more than anyone expected you to. Helping a friend's financial situation, balancing your work and student life, aiding in the advancement of revolutionary technology, and saving our lives at USJ."

Shoto stood behind her, nodding in agreement.

"There are many things we have yet to understand about you, but we wish to get to know you further. Everyone out there almost got to know the brave, intelligent, and resourceful hero in training, but unfortunate circumstances prevented that."

Reaching out, she draped the medal over his neck. He stood there wide eyed, glancing back to the medal and everyone else.

"We're certain you could have won a medal today, but allow us to present you with one that recognizes your achievements thus far."

*clap clap clap clap*

Izuku looked around him, surrounded by so many people who were happy with him. It was, a lot right now. He didn't know how he should feel about this. He wasn't a hero, just a selfish boy. But their smiles were contagious, so he put on one of his own.

"HATSUME!" Power Loader shouted, barging in and pausing at the crowd. "Not gonna ask, but Hatsume."

"Yes?"

"THE AWARD CEREMONY IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW GET YOUR BUTT OUT THERE!"

"ALRIGHT ALRIGHT!" She stomped off, grabbing her helmet from the computer along the way. Maid-A followed right behind.

"Crap guys! We need to go too!" Eijiro said, running off with his class.

"Wait!" Kaminari stopped, pointing at the still Izuku and paralyzed smiling Nejire. "What about them?"

"I'll take care of her." Izuku waved his concerns off.

"You, a guy, alone with a gorgeous girl who can't move."

Using what movement she could, Nejire wiggled her eyebrows at Izuku.

"A GIRL WHO'S TOTALLY OK WITH IT!"

"If it was you we would say no." Jiro grabbed his arm, dragging Kaminari away.

Now Izuku was left alone, with Nejire on the couch. Huh, just like before. It wasn't all that different, so he took a seat right next to her limp form. Well there was a bit of a difference this time. Izuku held up the medal again, smirking at the glittering metal. Hold on, this was stabilized francium! Damn that creation quirk is total bullshit. Tons of ideas ran through his head about what he could do with this.

*plop*

But one thing was on his mind now, and that was the girl who just rested her head on his shoulder. Grabbing the tablet off to the side he pulled up the live feed for the festival. Oh and one last thing, he put his arm around Nejire bringing her a little closer.

"AH HAHAHAHA!"

All Might's laughed reverberated through the entire crowd.

"I AM HERE WITH THE MEDALS!"

And they erupted in thunderous applause. It felt good to be healthy again, or healthy enough to do his work. When was the last time he took a hit that bad of a hit? Never, only one time was close enough and that was the battle against the biggest evil he could imagine.

But that is over now, the future has come, today!"

Looking up All Might spotted the students who would receive their medals. Hold on, where was their first place winner?

*FWOOOSH*

Mei flew in from above with her jet pack, android companion hovering right beside the armored inventor. Both descended onto the first place podium, Mei taking off her helmet to wave to the crowd. The showmanship was appreciated, and they seemed to be warming up to her now.

"Are you trying to upstage me young Hatsume?" All Might asked teasingly.

"Of course I am. I'm competing against you now."

"HAHAHA! Right you are, but there are other winners that should have their moment as well!" He came up to the third place winners. Katsuki Bakugo stood with his head down, hands shoved in his pockets shaking with rage. Ah the fiery passion of youth. Right beside him was that Tokage girl who seemed content with her spot.

When her eyes met All Might's, his muscles flexed instantly as a shot of adrenaline ran through him. For the briefest moment, he thought of him standing there instead of Tokage. Ignoring the gut feeling about her, he kept his smile on and approached.

"You have wonderful control and technique over an amazing quirk. I see a bright future ahead of you." All Might said, lowering the medal over her head.

"It's much brighter than you think." Tokage said with a smirk of a thousand secrets. It was so similar to his smirk, All Might nearly lost his smile. His heart was pounding in his chest, preparing his body for battle. Not here, not now, and certainly not against an innocent child. Moving on before his body could do something he might regret he faced Bakugo.

"Young Bakugo, you've certainly shown everyone that humanity has great strength behind it."

*grunt*

"Yet there is something else that defines us as humans, something that we coincide with great power." Putting his hand on his shoulder, he managed to get Bakugo to look up. "Great responsibility. Take that to heart young Bakugo, and I will see you at the finish line."

"Did you just fucking reference spi-"

Now that Bakugo was distracted he quickly placed the medal around the boy. Before Bakugo could deny All Might of the action he had already gotten to Uraraka. He was worried about her, but Recovery Girl gave her a clean bill of health after the girl had a short nap. She smiled up to him, but it didn't seem whole hearted. Not yet at least!

"Young Uraraka, today I think you showed everyone what it truly means to go 'Plus Ultra' today. I see much of myself in you. I'm not sure if you noticed but you had plenty of people rooting for you with wonderful smiles. Your future self is going to be more memorable than I."

"Thank you All Might." She bowed, blushing in embarrassment. That smile on her face though showed his words got to her.

"I'm so happy to know she is going to make a lot more people smile and be the best space hero ever!" He placed the medal over her.

*sniff*

Uraraka started to cry, his words might have made her a little too…..happy? Upset, the girl is crying tears of sorrow not joy. All Might wanted to stop right there and comfort her, ask her about what he said to make her so depressed. Yet if he called attention to it now, everyone would be. For her sake, All Might had to ignore it and move to the winner of the festival.

"Now normally we only hand out one medal for first place, but from what I understand your associate here is fully self aware." He gestured to the android.

"Yes sir!"

"Then I think she deserves one as well! Both of you are pioneers leading us into a new age of heroism. You have many expectations on your shoulders now, no one could do it alone."

"Which is why I have Maid-A!" Mei hugged her android, who hugged the inventor right back and lifted her off the ground. It was a cute display, earning this girl more and more points with the crowd.

"You stole the words right from my mouth! Careful though, stealing in front of the number one hero doesn't end well HAHAHAHA!" He placed each medal over Hatsume and 'Maid-A'.

Now with his role completed he turned back to the audience. "Remember! Any one of the fine young competitors could have been standing here today! Everyone has a hero inside of them waiting to shine in the light! So, let's do this together now. You know the words!"

"Great work everyone/PLUS ULTRA!"

"..."

"What a goofy goober." Nejire chuckled, sitting in the console room of the TARDIS. Izuku was walking around, inputting a new destination.

"I sometimes wonder what kind of hero he would be known as if he possessed average hero strength." Izuku hummed thoughtfully, looking back down at his attire. He had yet to change from his damaged clothes since the hospital. The two of them just came back to the TARDIS, Mei herself was swarmed with requests for gear and was working hard. This was her moment, and he wanted it to stay that way.

*blip*

He grabbed the monitor, bringing it to him. "That's...something that needs to be checked out."

"What is it Izuku?" Nejire hopped up to look at the screen.

"Do you...remember the Dalek from USJ?"

Her mood dropped. "Yes?"

"It used a temporal shift to escape the ray shield prison I had it trapped in. That could spit it out pretty much anywhere, anytime."

"And you think this might be it?"

"Unlikely, but not a lot can actually put ripples in the time stream." He finished, trying to judge her position on this. "I don't want to go after every little thing, but if that Dalek shows up and we don't-"

"Izuku." She put her hand on his, resting them against the humming console. "I don't like people getting hurt, you most of all."

That was her answer, Izuku would respect that. Ok, yeah, maybe it's nothing and they can just-

"But" Nejire clenched his hand. "I don't think neither of us can ignore it."

She was right. Even if it wasn't a Dalek from the Time War, it was one from his memories. It might as well be the same thing. "Right."

He yanked the lever, power coursing through the engines and into the time rotor. Nejire let go as Izuku went to get changed into his hero gear. He needed to be on his best to go against his nightmare. She followed right behind him.

"What are you doing?"

"Getting changed."

"Into your hero gear?"

"Yep."

"Wouldn't you do that in your room?"

"Well where do you get changed?"

"...In the wardrobe room."

"That sounds like a room made to be changed in."

"I suppose…"

"..."

"You want to get changed with me don't you."

"Yes! Your face looks human but you're still an alien! Who knows how much of you looks normal!"

"...Just letting you know that sounded very racist."

*Vwoorp* *VWOoorp* *VWOOORP* *VWOORP*

The TARDIS landed as the blue box in the middle of a dark room. The lantern on top along with the windows leaked enough light to make out simple details.

*SLAM*

The doors opened, Izuku rolling forward in his hero gear. He activated his supercharged/heated rod and held a low defensive position. Nejire Was right above him in her own form fitting outfit, spiraling energy around his arms seeking to destroy any threat.

Any threat at all.

"Are we in the right place?" Nejire asked.

"We should be." Izuku said equally confused. Holding his weapon close, he backed into the TARDIS. "Keep watch."

Nejire nodded, looking around the room. There was hardly anything in it, a small raggedy bed roll, a tray with mush on the floor, stray bandages, and childrens clothes with holes in them. She let her quirk wind down, not seeing any immediate threat.

Izuku poked his head back out, using his glowing tool to highlight the room. "The anomaly happened here. Your present, roughly fifty miles from the arena, and forty feet underground."

He walked forward, deactivating his saber and clipping it onto his belt. Kneeling down he picked up a worn stuffed toy, eyeing it carefully. "Nejire, come look at this."

Curiosity easily driving her, she knelt down right next to Izuku. "A bunny?"

He pinched under one of the ears, showing a spot of blood on it. "It's old, months old."

Izuku then picked up some of the bandages nearby, smelling it deeply. "This is more recent, same person's."

"A child's." Nejire realized in horror.

"Yes." He scowled at it. "But, I think we can't do this the normal way. Or, not my normal way."

"What do you mean?"

"This isn't some alien ship, or dimensional crisis, this is a human built place with human cement. We're dealing with human criminals."

*gasp* "You mean that we're going to take on proper villains? My way?!" She bounced with excitement.

"Yep." He smirked. "Your way." Izuku pulled down his goggles, brief flashes of light coming from them as he took photos of everything. "This is concerning enough evidence that if we submit it to the hero agency you're working at they could start something."

"Izuku! Do you know what this means?!"

"What?"

She took in deep breaths, getting more and more excited by the second. "After the sports festival heroes will submit work study requests for students they saw. Even though you weren't in it, I can ask Ryuko to get you to come to our agency! Then we can take care of these baddies together!"

"You hear something?"

Someone said from outside, getting Nejire to shut up. Izuku pointed his thumb at the TARDIS, and without a word they both got back inside. As soon as Izuku shut the door Nejire was in his face.

"So? What do you say? You wanna do this together?" She held out her hand in a high five, smiling brightly at the boy.

Instead of a high five, Izuku reached up and gently pulled it down. "Before that, I think there is a long due conversation...about us, being together."

It hurt, seeing that smile drop, but Nejire nodded.

"I, don't really know how it would work." Izuku confessed. "We're two very different species, and I have a much longer life span."

She nodded again, looking more dejected.

"And, I've never done anything like it. I don't even know what we would do or what I should be doing as...there's so much I've studied and I'm sad to say romance is my least knowledgeable subject."

Nejire pulled away, folding her arms to herself. "I..get it...I'm sorry for being so pushy it must have made you really uncomfortable."

Izuku held his arm back out, shuffling from one foot to the other. Screw it. He grabbed her arm, pulling her closer to him. "I'm not good at this, or words, or even handling my emotions."

His eyes glanced at the console. "Nejire, get dressed."

Now confused, and conflicted, but she just accepted his instruction. "What kind of outfit?"

"1951, Vegas." He hopped back to the controls, putting the new coordinates in. Pulling a smaller lever the doors closed behind them.

"Vegas? Like, Las Vegas?" Nejire was very unsure with what was happening. Isn't she supposed to be being, ya know, turned down? Las Vegas hardly seems appropriate, but after giving it a second thought it might just be the place to do it.

"Yep."

"Ok...formal? Casual?"

He looked back up from the controls smirking. "Pick something that you'd remember."

That was, vague, but a few specific ideas came to her mind.

"Take as much time as you need." Izuku said, setting the TARDIS into flight.

Nejire wasn't sure why Izuku brought her here specifically, but she did feel good in her dress. It was a sleeveless light blue dress that sparkled with every twitch. A single cut went down the side, letting a little bit of her thigh be exposed. Her shoes were simple heels that matched the color. This time Nejire even tried putting on some makeup. Nothing much, but the noticeable difference was the night sky lipstick she wore. Running a single hand down her curled hair, she walked out of the TARDIS hallway and into the main room.

There Izuku was, leaning against the front door dressed in a deep emerald pinstripe suit with a vest. His tie matched the tone, only colored red this time along with his shined shoes. It was impossible for Izuku to hide his smile to Nejire as he saw her come forward.

"This is Vegas right? Because I dressed for Vegas."

"And you dressed well." Izuku replied, holding out his arm for her. She held on to it as they stepped out of the TARDIS. It was still disguised as a police telephone box, probably because it would have been less appropriate to turn into a treehouse in a large room with hundreds of equally well dressed individuals. It was parked in a corner, slightly concealed by a huge window curtain.

There were fancy waiters bringing drinks to people, gambling in another corner, and most importantly….

Music.

Strangers in the Night

By Frank Sinatra

"Strangers in the night, exchanging glances"

"Come on." Izuku pulled her forward to the dance floor, leading her into an open spot next to the stage. Nejire felt absorbed into the moment. This wasn't a random stop to Izuku, and it wasn't one with some special mission, it was just a moment in space and time he selected for them.

"What were the chances? We'd be sharing love?"

"Should I know who's singing?" She asked slightly embarrassed.

"Frank Sinatra, his music lasted for years and years. Unfortunately the original versions were lost during the great quirk uprising in 2083." He held her hands, slowly moving back and forth with the rhythm.

Nejire mirrored his steps, falling back into the moment.

"Something in your eyes, was so inviting."

"Time scavengers actually recovered them in the 51st century. There's something about his music that touched people beyond his own time." He held her a little closer, putting one of his hands to the side of her head.

"Something in your smile, was so exciting"

"I don't think I can say it well enough, so I'm borrowing some of his words for this."

Izuku leaned his forehead against hers, bringing up their memories. The first moment they met, he walked in to teach her class while covering for a teacher. Nejire had focused on him, immediately inquisitive and wanting to know everything about him. With every question Izuku became increasingly invested in the bluenette, something about her eagerness sparking something in him.

"Something in my heart told me I must have you."

In the dancehall, their bodies swayed with one another growing closer and closer as they relived their memories.

The same day they met they were kidnapped, but trusted each other without question. Izuku could remember seeing Nejire's unbreakable spirit alongside her drive to know, see, and live. Nejire on the other hand remembered Izuku's resolve, facing every force of nature and traveling through hundreds of biomes through thousands of years to make sure she would be safe.

"Strangers in the night, two lonely people. We were strangers in the night"

Both hardly knew each other, both didn't have much of a place to truly call home. Izuku was making friends, but at an arm's length away. Nejire had Mirio and Tamaki, but never felt she could share her personal problems with.

Izuku's arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer to himself as Nejire wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Little did we know love was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away"

Their foreheads had already been touching the entire time. Yet both felt comfortable leaning their heads a little closer, just enough to share a kiss. It didn't last for more than a few seconds, the genuine affection burning the same message into their hearts.

"It turned out so right for strangers in the night."

Sports festival is finally wrapped up. Next arc, Ochaco's memories. I did another one pretty quick, mostly because I could be farther with this story than I currently am.
