Welcome Back. Hope you all liked the last chapter. The Sons of Thor were introduced and a big fight was set up. You'll have to wait for that one, but in the meantime, here you go.
You know the drill, review time.
Shadowhunter2077: "I really curious to see how this fight will play out, because both Hephaestus and the Elder Cyclop are more builder than fighters but the Elder Cyclops fought in the Titan War alongside Zeus so they should have a lot of fight experience and Hephaestus did defeated Ares with his powers in the past, so this should be a interesting fight.
And about the gods I think the only olympian who have a chance of fighting against a primordial god and put a great fight would be Zeus he is the only god who can maybe if he fights smart could beat a primordial.
Not really suprised that the Sons of Thor menaged to but such great fight, the Norse gods are in their myths all great warriors which means that their children should be at least better warriors than the Greeks ones, because one thing that I didn't liked in Magnus Chase was how Rick didn't even bother to explore the Norse demigods, like explain their differences to the Greeks, and one thing I always thought about these gods was how good of slatemate they leave the Greek Gods because while the Greeks have more power and versatilty the Norse have power and battle exparience so I really liking the Norse pantheon in this.
Also Ouranos is playing a very dangerous game with the others pantheons because they are very unpredicatible factors because the Sons of Thor are only Demigods, but what if he brings real gods like Surtur, Fenrir, Amatsu-Mikaboshi, Loki, Lucifer and the others Princes of hell, things could go souht very quickly because these guys could easliy backstap one another and Mikaboshi is probably the most dangerous out all of then because he only was "defeated" by the creation of the universe in Shinto Mythology."
Response: Yeah, the Elder Cyclops and Hephaestus won't be that easy, as you'll see the next chapter. And yes, Zeus is the only Olympian that could take on Ouranos one to one in this story. The Sons of Thor are warriors, and you'll find out that too, I tried to explain it in a scene in this chapter, I hope I did it right. About Ouranos, he is playing a dangerous game, but it's a smart game, getting as many allies as possible, and he's controlling them so far.
Synergy: "I like the story a lot! Only problem with it is that some of the continuity problems. I'm pretty sure that a few chapters ago Matt ran like a couple hundred miles and didn't seem tired, but here he ran 100 miles and was panting."
Response: Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far. As for that issue, I can't really excuse that one lol, I'm not a perfect writer, and I realize I made a couple of continuity mistakes along the way. But I guess I could say that Matt wasn't very good at controlling his powers at the time, and he could sometimes have great stamina, and other times he would have crappy stamina. But really, It's a continuity problem like you said. I got better with the consistency though, so don't expect more of those. Either way, if that's the only issue you have with the story, then I suppose I'm doing pretty good. Hope you stick around for the rest of the story!
darkwalker11: "another great chapter. i like how you portrayed the sons of thor, cant wait to see what happens with this Hephaestus situation and the camp."
Response: Thank you, really appreciate the support.
NiHaR OP: "Noooo i want more, dang it stupid ass cliffhangers so are you planning on adding the Hindu pantheon or the Egyptian , I really want some OP Percy scenes ik that Percy is not the main character but still, also I feel like the original Cyclops were mostly builders as Rick has said in the gods of Olympus, but still great chap and it's ok for you to take a break"
Response: Thanks Nihar, and I doubt I'll add any Egyptian elements, other than being mentioned it probably won't appear in the story. As for Hindu, I'm not sure yet. The only pantheons that will for sure appear is Norse (Already has) and Shinto in Book Four or Five. As for Percy, stay tuned for Book Three, I have big plans for him. The Cyclops are being manipulated by Ouranos, and they are quite strong in their own right so I have them fight in this story.
thesuperone342: "Damn, this was some good ass shit lol. I loved the introduction with the Storm Bringers, they are so much like Magni and Modi and it's awesome. The banter between Hercules and Matt was also one of the best parts of this story. It's very believable and very entertaining at the same time. The most enjoyable part of the chapter was the scene with Hephaestus. I could not stop laughing the entire time. Hephaestus is such a dunder head and you portrayed that perfectly. Also, the banter between Matt and Hercules during that scene was hilarious. I can't wait until Matt kills the Sons of Thor and Matt and Hercules fight the cyclops.
P.S.: Is the next chapter going to be a Harper chapter, or are we getting the fight immediately?"
Response: Thanks man, and I'm glad you like the Sons of Thor, I'll give them names soon lol. I'm also glad people enjoy Matt and Hercules' banter, I have fun writing those lines. To answer your question, which I actually already answered on Snapchat, but for any other readers, yes this chapter will be in Harper's POV, but don't worry, it will be just as good, and probably leave you not wanting to go back to the Hephaestus fight. That's the beauty of dual perspectives. The suspense.
Guest: "Another solid chapter!
Btw, I love that Heracles has actually been a real character in your story, throughout the rest of the percy fanfic site, he is usually portrayed as essentially a cartoon villain with how over the top he is with his jerkiness."
Response: Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far. I agree that Hercules/Heracles is portrayed often as a total jerk without any depth. I've always hated that and I do my best to give him character in my story. Glad it's working.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters (except the OC's) Percy Jackson & The Olympians, Heroes Of Olympus, or Trials Of Apollo. All of that belongs to Rick Riordan.
Now then, on with the sixth chapter.
6. I Hate Thor's Kids
Harper
Raise your hand if you want to read about me racing back to Camp. Any takers?
Didn't figure, so I'm gonna skip to the good stuff.
When I got to the Big House, I immediately woke Chiron up and warned him about Levi's threat, and...London and Emma. The poor centaur was having a good sleep, but this was serious, so I didn't feel too guilty about it.
He immediately got up and told me that we would warn the rest of Camp in the morning, and bury the two girls, a ceremony and everything. I understood that not everyone wanted to be woken up, and went back to my cabin.
I opened the door, greeted with a bloody floor, but no bodies. I looked at Aiden's bed, and spotted my half brother sitting there, his face unable to read.
I didn't know what to say. I mean, I'm sorry my brother just killed our siblings in front of your eyes, and almost killed you too didn't exactly cover it.
So instead I walked over to where he was and put a hand on his shoulder, gently.
He flinched, easing at the sight of me.
"I'm so sorry, Aiden." I muttered, the only words I could muster. Everything had happened so soon and so fast.
"I-It's okay. But...gods Harper, London and Emma..." He was on the verge of tears.
I sat down beside him and hugged him, "I know, I know, it's awful." We stayed like that for a while, as long as he needed to. He clung for a few minutes.
"What did you do with them?" I asked softly.
"Already buried them, near the forest. It was during your...conversation with Levi."
I pulled away, my face and mind full of grief.
"You what?"
"I...buried them, Harper. What else was I supposed to do? Let them lay there until morning?"
He had a point. Sleeping in the same room as two dead bodies would be pretty uncomfortable. Especially for Aiden, who I'm pretty sure has never killed anything other than the occasional monster.
As for me, I've seen death, but that doesn't mean I'm not sensitive to the current situation, I mean...London and Emma were family.
Murdered by family.
"No, no, you did the right thing. We...should have a ceremony tomorrow. I think Chiron will set it up."
"You're going?"
His question was cautious, like he was stepping on eggshells.
I looked at the floorboard, "Yeah, I'm going. You um, you don't have to. It's okay, Aiden."
He shook his head, "No, I'll go too. They...deserve to be remembered."
I nodded, and silence ensued. It wasn't awkward or anything, just the silence of us trying to process everything.
I thought about the look on Levi's face, cold and calculating, no remorse for his actions. The way that scar rippled across his face when he got angry, it was like his mark, the mark of the new Levi Pierce.
And yeah, he was different, way different from the boy I once looked up to. Levi back then used to be so kind hearted, helpful, and selfless, but all of that was gone, Ouranos had changed him so drastically it was unreal. Lies and manipulation, Ouranos does it all.
But it's Levi's fault too, his delusion is driving him to commit heinous acts. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I would never act the way he did tonight, and I most definitely wouldn't buy into Ouranos's bullshit.
Anger coursed through my veins, Levi was a monster. A small part of me still believed I could save him, that he could be redeemed. I wanted him to go back to the way he was, I wanted him to come home and help us, but the majority of my mind knew that wouldn't happen. After what he did tonight, and the way he acted...I just don't know.
I knew what I would probably have to do.
"I'm gonna kill him." I muttered, low but firm. It was almost a vow, but at the same time hesitant.
Aiden looked at me, "What?"
I hadn't meant for him to hear me, but he needed to hear it to be honest.
"I'm going to kill Levi, Aiden. He...he's not my brother anymore." It pained me to say it, memories flooding in my head of the good times, the times when it was just him and I, fishing or training or whatever.
All of that was gone, this was my new life. This was my new situation.
"I know Harper. He deserves it. That asshole just came in here and slit their throats, no hesitation."
"Yeah..."
We sat there for five minutes, Aiden wouldn't look anywhere but the ground, I stared at him, trying to figure out a way to console him. I wasn't used to the roles being reversed. It was always me being comforted when I was young by Levi, and now me to Aiden.
I put a hand on his shoulder, "You okay?"
He breathed in and out, lightly throwing his hands up, "Yeah, I'll be alright."
"If you need to talk about anything, I'll listen, alright?"
He nodded.
I retracted my hand, thinking about something that might cheer him up. That's what Levi always did for me. He would always get me a gift or take me somewhere excited when I was sad.
It hit me, and I knew I had to tell him.
"Matt's alive, Aiden."
His eyes widened, he looked me in the eyes, maybe trying to find any sort of a joke in them, but there was none.
I nodded, "He's been training with his dad, apparently."
Aiden's face scrunched with confusion, "How do you know?"
"Levi told me."
He reared his head back, an eyebrow raised.
"I know, I didn't believe it at first, but he swore on the River Styx, and he didn't get atomized, so I guess that means something."
"And he's been with Hercules...for a year?"
I nodded, "Yeah. Training to get stronger or something."
Aiden shook his head in disbelief, "Why didn't he tell you?"
I had asked myself that question a thousand times over the course of the walk back to Camp. Why didn't he tell me? Leave a note or something? Was he afraid that I wouldn't let him go? Or that I would insist on going with him?
But then again, I probably would have done both of those things.
Still though, he could have told me! It made me so frustrated, the fact that he was there the whole time, safe and sound, while I cried myself to sleep some nights over the thought of him being dead.
Oh man, when I see him again I'm gonna kick his ass. I don't care how tough he is, I'll find a way to beat his face in for making me feel this way.
I noticed I had zoned out and Aiden was waiting for my reply.
"No, he didn't tell me."
Aiden scowled and muttered under his breath, "Fucking jerk."
My eyes widened, "Hey, take it easy. He kind of had a point...kind of. I mean, I probably wouldn't have let him go. Or...maybe I would have." I shook my head, "Ugh, I don't know what the hell I would have done."
"Harper, he should have told you. You were depressed for a month!"
"I know, I know. It's just-"
"I mean, he promised me Harper! He promised me that he would never hurt you! I looked into his eyes, and he promised me!"
I was shocked at his loud voice. I didn't know Aiden felt so strongly about this.
I had no room to speak, he was on a roll. He continued to gesture angrily with his hands, saying "I used to think that you were so lucky, Harper. So lucky that a guy like that would notice you, and like you in that way. I'm not saying that you don't have anything to offer, because that's definitely not true. But Matt is-was, Matt was..."
I stared at him, waiting for him to finish. I couldn't remember the last time Aiden had gotten like this. He looked almost...shameful.
"Matt was...perfect in my eyes, Harper. I kept telling myself that you deserved it, that you had been through so much hell, that the love of a great guy would be just what you needed."
There was an undertone, and I had a decent idea of what.
"Only..." I prodded gently.
"Only..." He slumped, and sighed. "I was jealous."
"Jealous?"
"Yeah, I was jealous. I...like Matt, Harper. Okay? I'm..."
I waited, this was serious. And I had a good idea of what he was going to say. I needed to be patient and handle this the right way.
"I'm bisexual."
I processed what he just said. I was kind of shocked, I never thought Aiden felt that way towards boys. If he had a crush on one at any point, I never noticed it. But to be fair, up until last year the only thing I thought about was revenge on the so called Cloaked Man.
Aiden had probably not told anybody else this, meaning he trusted me enough to reveal it. I was touched to be honest, and I needed to reassure him that everything was okay.
"Aiden..." I started.
"I liked Matt. And I knew he was straight, and liked you, so I was jealous, alright?"
"Aiden, it's alright. Don't worry-"
"But now, I say screw him. He doesn't deserve you, Harper. He should have told you!"
"Aiden, I know, I know. It's alright."
He calmed down a little, slumping even more.
"Matt made a mistake, okay. And I'm pissed at his decision, believe me. But I...miss him. And just the fact that he's alive, It...makes me feel better."
He nodded, staying silent for a few moments. I think he was relieved that I hadn't gotten mad at him.
"I know, Harper. And he's a good guy. You're right, this whole war has us all on edge, I'm...I'm sure Matt has a lot of pressure on him."
"We all do."
"Yeah. And I'm...sorry."
"What for?"
"That I like Matt. I know I shouldn't feel that way."
"Aiden-"
"I'm a cocksucking faggot, I know. Just don't tell anyone, okay?"
I punched him on the shoulder, "Aiden, shut up!"
His eyes widened, he rubbed his shoulder.
"Damn, stop beating yourself up, idiot." A smile crept on my face.
He looked confused, "What?"
"Aiden, I don't give a shit if you're gay or whatever, I'm your sister, I'm not gonna throw you out of the cabin for having a crush on Matt."
"But, I figured-"
I sighed, "Be who you are, Aiden, and never think that I won't accept whatever that is. Well...as long as you don't work for Ouranos." I meant the last part as a joke, but given the context, it wasn't very funny.
He smiled, "Th-Thanks."
We sat there, smiling at each other, any form of tension gone. I think he was relieved at my acceptance. And of course I would be, who was I to tell someone who they should like?
His smile faded quickly though, he looked hesitant again.
"What is it?"
"What did...Levi tell you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you had this look on your face, like he had told you something."
I wasn't cautious to tell him about Levi's threat or anything, I just didn't want to rattle him anymore than he was already rattled. Witnessing double murder and then finding out the Camp will be invaded might be too much for him.
I decided to tell him now, I mean Chiron would tell everyone tomorrow anyways.
"Levi threatened the Camp. He said that Ouranos's forces would attack and destroy it."
He didn't pause for a second, immediately shooting back with, "When?"
"Soon." I said grimly.
His face was hard to look at, because I knew it would be on everyone else's face tomorrow when Chiron gives the announcement. All games would be cancelled, guards would have to be set up, and no one would be allowed to leave. I knew it would happen, and I hated it.
I began to question my decision. Should I have gone with him to save the Camp? I mean, I obviously wouldn't have joined him, but I could've tricked him and then killed him at the proper moment. But that would only result in chaos too. Besides, he probably wasn't telling the truth anyway. They would've attacked the Camp whether I joined him or not.
Aiden looked tired, exhausted, and scared. I could tell he was staying awake to be polite, and to be honest, I was doing the same. Don't take that as me wanting to get away from him, because that's not the case. It's just that so much has happened, and the thought of what might happen soon is just too much. We need some sleep.
"Hey, everything's gonna be alright, Aiden. No matter what happens, I'll be there for you, okay?"
He nodded, a thankful look in his eyes, but fright was clear in them too. I couldn't blame him.
To be honest, I wasn't sure if everything would be okay. I was telling Aiden that just as much as I was telling myself. I needed reassuring too.
"I know Harper. And I'll be there for you too."
I patted his shoulder, "And thanks for trusting me enough to tell me about...you know."
"Yeah, I just...thought you should know."
"I won't tell anyone."
"Thanks. I'll get over Matt, and maybe...I don't know, maybe I'll actually find someone that likes me back."
"I know you will, you have a lot to offer, to anybody."
"Goodnight Harper, thanks for-"
"I know, I know. Don't mention it." I got up, and gave him another smile before turning to my bed. The instant I turned from him my smile faded, because it was forced. How could I smile in the current situation?
"Goodnight, Aiden." I said, and we cut the lights off. I didn't even bother changing into my pajamas, I just stayed in my jeans and t-shirt.
Two less people in our cabin now, and two left. That number would not go down again. I wouldn't die, and I sure as hell wouldn't let Aiden die.
I brought up the covers to my shoulder and laid on my side, I surprisingly fell asleep not long after closing my eyes.
Of course, a dreamless sleep isn't possible.
I was taken back to a familiar place, the place I grew up for eleven years.
I was placed at the end of our old driveway, the big farm house in the distance peeking from the trees. It was a sunny evening, only a few wisps of clouds in the sky, the sun bright and beaming, the grass was green, the flowers yellow, and best of all, the sound of cars and people absent. That's what I loved best about southern parts of the country, everything's peaceful and quiet.
I missed my old home, despite the bad memories of my dad, I had plenty of great memories too. I hadn't seen it since I left for Camp Half Blood that day, any part of the property at all. I sometimes wondered what kind of shape it was in now, and if someone had bought it.
Better luck to them, hopefully they enjoy it more than I did.
Anyway, back to the vision. Everything stayed still for a while, to the point where it was soothing. The gentle breeze and the scenery calmed me a little, no thoughts at all, nothing to hear, just the view of my old house.
Then finally a faint motor could be heard in the distance, and a few minutes later, a yellow bus came into view. I knew what it was immediately, as I had rode on it every day for years. It was the school bus from my old school, the one that both Levi and I attended. We rode different ones thought, due to our age and grade difference. I hated that as a kid, being separated from him, it felt like I was alone and without protection. Before I learned to defend myself, these feelings were strong.
I mean don't get me wrong, I had some friends, but not many. I wasn't exactly bullied often, but ignored instead. I just wasn't very interested in making friends, and I guess kids thought I was weird for not being outgoing. There were a select few girls I took a liking to, and we talked, but they never came over to my house or anything. They were more allies than friends, if you know what I mean.
The bus pulled next to our dirt driveway, stopping with a loud hiss. I expected my younger self to pop out, a bored expression on my face, ready to get home. But I was surprised to see not me emerge from the bus, but Levi.
What? Why was I seeing him straightaway?
He stepped through the doors, and made his way back to our farm house, the bus's motor trailing off in the distance as it left.
My vision stayed in front of him like a frontal camera shot. I stared at this younger Levi, probably thirteen or so, noting the vast differences between this one and the one I saw last night. Unlike the current Levi, he had no scar, a smile played on his lips, and he walked carefree, as if monsters didn't exist, as if they weren't about to jump out at him any moment.
This was the Levi I knew, this was my brother. Not the man with the black hood that killed two innocent girls and somehow believes that what Ouranos is doing is justified. No, this Levi had no hood, no cold frown, no dead eyed stare, he was just...Lee.
After the long walk, he finally made it to the house, opening the door and walking inside.
His face scrunched in confusion, "Harper?"
No response.
He looked around the entire house, walking upstairs and everywhere else, but he couldn't find me. This went on for a few minutes, and I began to question as well. Where the hell was I? I don't remember this.
Finally he went outside, opening the back door and walking down the steps. The wind blew his black hair all over the place, he had to brush it out of his eyes in order to see better. I couldn't look around myself, as I was basically looking at it from his perspective.
"Harper? Harper, where are you?"
He called out a few more times, to no avail.
He walked around the left side of the house, finding nothing. A concerned look passed over his face, and he became frantic, quickening his pace to the other side of the house.
When he crossed the corner, he sighed with relief.
"There you are, kiddo."
His sight focused on my younger self. Black hair and pale skin sticking out like a diamond in sand. I was probably eight years old here, my hair covered up my face from view. I was curled up on the side of the house, knees tucked in and my arms wrapped around them. Huh, I don't remember this at all. Was I sad or something?
The next action proved it. Levi's face morphed back to concern as he knelt down to my level.
"Hey kiddo, you alright?"
He moved my dark hair out of the way, and I let him. It revealed a smaller face, no black lipstick or eyeliner, and most notably, both eyes were icy blue.
If I could gasp in this vision I would, because it was still so foreign to see myself with both eyes. I missed having full vision, and I hated the looks I got from strangers. The whole thing made me so insecure, usually putting on a front that I didn't give a crap what people thought of my appearance, but in truth, I did. Every girl does to some level.
As I looked on my younger self, I noticed something else on my face, were those...tears?
Levi noticed too, he leaned his head in a little to see better, and when he did, he gasped.
"Harper, are you crying?"
My younger self looked away, "No."
"Yeah you are. What's wrong?"
I didn't respond, just held on tighter to my knees.
"Harper, you can tell me anything. Whatever it is, I'll listen, and I won't laugh."
"I-It's not anything to laugh about."
"Well, what happened?"
Levi was so patient here, so gentle. And...so unlike his current self.
The thought made me sad. Just a while ago, I had vowed that I would kill him, for all he's done. But looking at him here, so innocent and sweet, it just...made me sad. How could I kill him? After all of the things he did for me, all of the comforting moments? How could you kill someone you love?
If that person you love has become a monster, you have to do it. You have to end him.
My internal struggle was interrupted by my light voice in the vision.
"I-I was at recess, and...Kyle was sad about his mommy and daddy not loving each other anymore. He said he was afraid."
Levi waited patiently for me to continue.
"A-And I overheard Jeremy say to him that he at least didn't have Harper's daddy, because he's a no good lowlife."
"What?"
"Why did he say that, Lee? D-Does daddy not love us?"
Levi's face contorted with anger, "You listen to me, kiddo. Don't ever let those kids get to you, you hear me? That Jeremy kid is a bully, and he's trying to make you feel bad. But you can't let that get to your head, alright? You have to be strong. I know you can be strong."
I didn't nod or smile, I only continued to cry, looking in his eyes.
"But you didn't answer my question, Lee."
His resolve faded, my eyes were big and sad, no front necessary around Levi. This was where I could talk about things, who I could talk to about things. No need to pretend I was tough.
Levi's lips tightened, he was trying to think of what to say. I knew this because I had the same look on my face not long ago when talking to Aiden.
"Is daddy really a lowlife?" My younger self asked innocently.
Levi sighed, "Harper, you need to know that Dad, he...he's not all there in the head."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean...he has a lot of problems."
"Problems?"
"Yeah, our um, our mom left him and he...well, the thing is..."
My younger self looked on without blinking, Levi was uncomfortable at it. Explaining this kind of thing to an eight year old was beyond hard.
"Look, the point is, don't worry about what dad does, okay? I'm here for you, and I'm always gonna take care of you. If that Jeremy kid picks on you again...you just let me know." Levi winked at me.
I giggled, "Okay. Thanks Lee."
"No problem, kiddo." He wiped my tears away with his thumb, and studied my face.
Younger me tilted her head, "What?"
Levi smiled, "Y'know, I think I have the perfect thing to cheer you up."
"Really?"
"Yeah." He reached into his blue jeans pocket, and pulled out an MP3 Player. No wait...that was the MP3 Player.
I mentally gasped, it was all coming back to me. I did remember this day.
He handed it to me, and my eyes widened with awe. I had seen him listening to music often on it, after all, he was the one that got me into rock and roll, all of the bands that I listen to this day, all of my favorite alt rock songs were passed down through Levi.
"Here, I want you to have this."
"B-But, this is-"
"I know. But I know how much you love that music, and besides, I can always get another one sometime. You have it, okay?"
Young me smiled from ear to ear, and threw her arms around Levi.
"Thanks Lee!"
Levi chuckled and returned the hug, "You're welcome."
The vision faded away, I felt myself being pulled from the farm and towards the sky, a new scene fell before me.
This one wasn't as uplifting.
I saw Camp Half Blood in flames. Each cabin destroyed, nothing but rubble and ruins left, the Big House looked like it had been set off with three tons of C4, every blade of grass black and smoking, the strawberry fields were still on fire, the orange light glowing and swaying fifteen feet high. I was glad I couldn't feel the heat through the vision.
A more horrifying sight were the dead campers. I saw hundreds of children and teenagers dead on the ground, blood everywhere. Some were burned alive, decapitated, impaled, cut to pieces, shred to pieces, and some must have been eaten, because there were limbs laying about as well.
I was disgusted. Was this going to happen? How soon? Was Levi responsible?
My question was answered when I saw two men emerged from the blind spot, meaning my left eye. The first thing I noticed was that they were carrying a dead Chiron.
They tossed him on the ground, his lifeless head rolling every which way. Chiron was like a dad to me, and many campers, so seeing that didn't make me feel good at all.
I got a good look at them, the fire outlined them perfectly, every little detail clear as day
First of all, they looked odd. One of them was probably six foot three or four, even more muscular than Matt. But it wasn't pleasing to the eye like Matt's are, this guy's muscles weren't very defined, but they were big and beefy. He had short blonde hair and a harsh face, a hint of cockiness on it though.
He wore lower body armor, but none on his upper. He had tattoos everywhere, on his arms and chest especially. There were scripts, and a large snake, a hammer and a compass on his arm. The dude had a shit load of ink.
Anyway, strapped on his back was a large hammer, the metal part the size of half of my body. It probably weighed two hundred pounds or more.
The guy next to him was six foot even probably, and leaner than his buddy. He wore a fur cloak that covered his shoulders and back. He too had a lot of tattoos, a bunch on his neck and chest as well as his arms. At his waist sat a curvy axe thing, smaller than the big one's weapon. It was hard to tell due to the fire, but I could've swore he had red hair.
The big one held out his hand towards Chiron's body, a blue flash erupted from it, and lightning shot out, incinerating Chiron's body.
Wait...
I began to connect the dots.
Two guys...
Lightning...
Weird tattoos and weapons...
Holy crap.
These guys were the Sons of Thor, the guys that killed Logan's family.
My mind was blown at the realization. First of all, they look nothing alike, yet they're brothers? Whatever. But seriously, these guys destroy Camp?
I bet that's what Levi has planned. These guys were in the city apparently, and they worked for Ouranos, so he was going to send them to destroy Camp.
The thought enraged me, these guys, from another pantheon, think they can come here and mess with us?
No way.
We needed to stop them in their tracks, we needed to change the outcome.
The last part of the vision I witness was them, laughing. They sounded like they had accents, their laughs were deep...and creepy.
Shortly after, everything went black, and I had no more visions for the night. Instead, I thought of a plan...
The ceremony was depressing.
Chiron said some words, and we all stood around in silence, the mood of the Camp down by a mile.
Aiden stood next to me the whole time, his eyes half lidded, like he didn't care anymore.
I kept my eyes forward, listening to Chiron's words. Towards the end, he said that all games were cancelled, and that we would need volunteers for guard duty. Oh and no one was allowed to leave Camp.
I knew I would have to kill him. For this, and all the other things he's done.
It ended with us each paying our respects. I went first, then Aiden, then everyone else. After I inwardly said some stuff in my head, I walked away and went straight back to my cabin.
I reached in my nightstand drawer, and pulled out my MP3 Player. The same one that Levi gave me.
I held it, and just stared at it. A war inside of my head.
Kill Levi, or take another chance?
Wait until he comes around?
No, he'll never come around.
Maybe...
No.
He won't.
"Damn it. Why?" I muttered, anger creeping in my throat. Why were things like this? Why was my luck so awful? Why couldn't he just see that he was in the wrong? Why did he follow Ouranos so blindly?
I shoved the MP3 Player back in the drawer and shut it hard, the sound of the slam echoing throughout the cabin.
"Why? Why? Why?" I was talking to myself now. Great, I'm nuts, aren't I?
I slumped on the edge of the bed, not sure of what to do anymore. I let my train of thought drift to the Sons of Thor. Apparently they were the ones to destroy Camp. I wanted to do something, to stop them before they get here.
But who would agree with me? I doubt I could beat both of those guys, so going to the city solo is out of the question, and Chiron wasn't allowing anyone to leave, so I would definitely have to sneak out. But who would come with me?
Speak of the devil, I heard a tap on my door.
I looked up to see Talon in the doorway, his sunglasses off to my surprise.
"Talon?"
"Hey, goth girl." He walked in, looking as he usually did. A black leather jacket with a gray t-shirt underneath, dark colored jeans and gnarly looking boots with skulls on the end. I wouldn't admit it, but I liked his style, probably because it mirrors my own, sort of.
"What are you doing here? Come to get your ass kicked at Poker again?" Yeah, I played Poker. I wasn't very good at it, but Talon taught me over the course of the past year to get my mind off Matt. I had gotten to know the rules and cards pretty good, and beat him last week. That's why I said what I said. I meant it as a tease, but it came out in a depressed tone, due to the ceremony. I missed London and Emma.
He knew I was putting up a front. "I came to check on you. Sorry about your half-siblings."
I sighed, "Thanks."
"What you thinking about?"
I looked up, his eyes were brown. I had never noticed before, as he rarely took off his sunglasses. In fact, looking closer at him now, he wasn't bad looking at all. I had never noticed because I just see him as a frenemy, but seeing him here in front of me...I was shocked that the Aphrodite girls hadn't thrown themselves at him.
Well, he is Talon after all.
"I just..."
"Spit it out."
I could tell him. If anyone would come with me, it would be Talon.
"Look, I need you to not tell anyone what I'm about to tell you." I said this leaning in, my voice low.
"I don't give a shit about gossip. I'm outta here." He started to get up.
I pulled him back down, "No dumbass! I had a vision last night."
That got his attention, he raised an eyebrow.
I explained my vision of the Sons of Thor and my plan to stop them, leaving out the Levi part. That had nothing to do with it.
Once I was done, he thought for a moment. I waited for his reply, hoping he wouldn't reject my plan.
"So they're Sons of Thor, huh? Damn...I never would have thought."
I nodded, "And they're dangerous. You understand where I'm coming from, right?"
"Totally. These guys need to be taken down."
I was a little stunned.
"Well, that was easy."
He groaned, "Look, over the course of the year...I guess you could say that I, I mean I'm not saying I love this place or anything. Just saying that it's...alright."
I smirked, "You love this Camp, don't you?"
"Shut up."
I laughed, "So you're in? You'll sneak out with me?"
He nodded, "Yeah. But we'll have to be careful, guard duty'll be able to spot us."
I scoffed, "I don't know about you, but I'm pretty good at stealth. We'll be fine."
He raised his hands, "Whatever you say. But still, if these guys are that powerful, do you think we'll be enough?"
I hadn't thought about it. I mean yeah, the reason I wanted more people was precisely that reason, but I didn't think I would need anymore than one other person.
"Well, who do you suggest?"
"Percy?"
"Nah, I can't do that to Annabeth. Besides, I'm not sure he would even say yes."
"Okay...Malachi?"
"Hmm...that could work. But will he agree?"
"Oh I can get Malachi to agree. The guy listens to everything I say."
(Ten Minutes Later In The Zeus Cabin)
"No way. Absolutely not!"
Sera was going off on us for even suggesting that Malachi go with us.
The demi primordial himself sat on a bunk to our right, a little embarrassed.
"Why would you even suggest this! Why would you even go yourselves?!"
Talon leaned over to me and whispered, "Forgot about Sera."
"Ya think?!"
She was in our face. When it came to Malachi, she got over her shyness very quick.
"Well?!"
Talon held his hands up calmly, "Sera, we have to. These guys are powerful, and they're gonna destroy Camp if we don't act tonight."
"How do you know? How do you know the Camp will lose?"
"I saw it Sera. I saw everyone dead. We can't let it happen."
She studied me, seeing that I was telling the truth, and her face sunk a little.
I grabbed her shoulders, "Sera, he'll be safe. In fact, he's gonna be the biggest help."
Talon stepped forward, "Totally. We'll bring him back to you, no sweat."
She didn't look convinced.
Malachi got up and put a hand on her shoulder, "It'll be okay. I agree with this plan. If these men are in the city as we speak, and they plan on invading Camp. Why don't we catch them by surprise?"
She looked at him, her eyes filled with concern.
"I just don't want you to get hurt, Kai."
He kissed her forehead, "I'll be okay, I promise."
She hesitated, but after a moment sighed.
"O-Okay then. Just...please, be safe. All of you."
"We will."
I hugged her, and rubbed her back with one hand.
"We'll be back before you know it."
We pulled away, and she smiled. "Okay."
The three of us walked out, and crept to the lake, where nobody was currently.
Once we were out of earshot, Malachi turned to me. He had on a gray hoodie with jeans, his hair was smooth and came down to his chin on both sides of his face, like a surfer.
"I hope you know what you are doing." He told me.
"Relax, I do."
"So, we doing this now?" Talon asked, popping his knuckles.
"No, nighttime would be best. The darkness can hide us, and we can catch them by surprise better. They won't be expecting a night ambush."
"What about civilians?" Malachi asked.
Crap, I hadn't thought about the mortals. This was New York, it didn't matter what time it was, there would be people milling around, or cars on the road.
"Who gives a damn?" Talon said, "They won't see a thing. The mist, remember?"
"I am sure they'll notice a full scale battle in the city, Talon." Malachi pointed out.
"Come on man, you worry too much. Mortals only see what they want."
I intervened, "Guys, we'll just have to be quiet. We'll figure out a way to keep it low key..." I racked my brain for solutions.
Finally it hit me.
"The rooftops!"
They looked at me like I had three heads.
I groaned, "Come on! It makes perfect sense, it keeps us stealthy and out of sight. If we get their attention, they'll have to fight us up there. Any blasts should avoid the mortals. Unless there's a few hanging out on the roofs late at night..."
Talon tapped Malachi on the chest with his finger, "Makes sense man, think about it. Those precious mortals'll be fine, and we'll still get to bust some Norse heads!"
Okay, maybe he was enjoying this too much.
Malachi hesitated, but after a minute finally conceded.
"Okay, fine. I agree."
"Okay good." I said, "Let's wait until nightfall, then we'll sneak out and go into the city."
"And bust Norse heads?"
I chuckled, "Yeah, we'll beat their asses." I wasn't sure if that would happen to be honest. These guys seemed pretty tough, but I had to be hopeful.
For the rest of the day we bode our time, keeping the plan secret and avoiding Chiron. Well...they avoided Chiron, I on the other hand tried to get Norse information from him.
It was hectic to say the least.
"C'mon Chiron! Tell me!"
"Harper, now is not the time. Please...I don't mean to be rude, but I need some space."
I had confronted him in the Big House. He, Percy and Annabeth were making plans for Camp defenses, and what the Hephaestus cabin should make for artillery.
I interrupted them and basically chased Chiron all over the house.
"Chiron, please!"
"Child, I need-"
"C'mon! This is important!"
"Harper, I beg you-"
"I HAD A VISION, OKAY!" I yelled, my impatience taking over. "I SAW THE SONS OF THOR DESTROY CAMP! I SAW ALL THE CABINS BURNED TO THE GROUND! I SAW-" A dry sob broke my sentence. I hadn't meant for it to come out, but remembering Chiron's lifeless body, and seeing the Centaur before me...it was like seeing your father die...again.
"I saw you die, Chiron." I would not cry, I would not cry. I wasn't that fragile, dammit. I had to be tough, I had to keep it up, or else everyone would see how scared I really was.
His annoyed face broke immediately, he clopped over and put a hand on my shoulder, "Oh, child. I am so sorry."
"No, no. It's-It's fine. I'm fine."
He studied me, a concerned look on his middle aged face, the eyes of a man that has seen thousands of years of tragedy. I suddenly realized, my worst nightmare, my horrible past, my situation with Levi...was nothing compared to Chiron's life.
I tried to put myself in his shoes, and found it near-impossible. It was awful, to imagine myself as the hero trainer. Dozens of times he would train a promising hero, basically raise them, and see them grow up, while passing wisdom on to them...only to hear about nearly all of their deaths. Achilles, Jason, and all the rest. The only hero he trained that I could think of that had a happy ending was well...Percy Jackson. And this war may sadly change that, who knows after all.
"Come with me." He said gently, and I followed him to his quarters. It was a cozy room, with various items from the past centuries. Strangely enough, the most recurring items were old records. I knew Chiron liked old music, but...wow.
He had a couple of chairs nearby, I sat in the smaller one, he sat down too, and his horse half magically morphed into it.
A few moments of silence passed, and he sighed.
"Harper, forgive me for being dismissive. I just...have a lot on my conscious at the moment."
"I understand."
"But I see now that this is more serious than I thought. Tell me about your vision."
I breathed in and out, and explained the details of my vision of the destroyed Camp. Again, I left out the first part about Levi, as I figured that had nothing to do with anything, and it was just the gods or whatever shoving my bad luck in my face.
Once I was done, he put a finger to his beard, deep in thought. I couldn't blame him, of course.
Finally he said, "Wow, I...didn't expect this."
"What?"
"Sons of Thor. I mean, this is just unexpected."
"How?"
He hesitated.
"Please tell me. I just want to make sense of all this. Can't you tell me how we coexist with the other pantheons? And if the Norse exist, then how many others are there? What's myth and what's...real? I don't know how to word it."
He continued to hesitate, not meeting my eyes.
I leaned forward, "Didn't you tell me when I first got here, that I could talk to you about anything? Well, how is this any different?"
"It's not that I don't want to talk to you, It's that I...I don't know the entire truth myself, Harper."
Chiron didn't know? Well, who the hell did? This guy was like a few thousand years old.
"Well, what do you know?"
"I know that the other pantheons exist. As for the specifics...I haven't seen proof of every single one. I know that many do in fact exist or...at one point existed. Including Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse clearly, the Japanese Shinto, the Chinese gods, the Yoruba, the Mayans, Hindu, and perhaps Christian. Although the last one I expect is above all else, rarely appearing physically in our affairs."
My mouth was open. All of those were real? As in, out there right now? How was that possible.
I worded my question, "How is that possible though? How the hell do we live together without having an imbalance or something?"
"That is...a good question, Harper. And I think that it has to do with the fact that we are not so different after all."
"What do you mean?"
"If you look at the beginning of many myths, you'll find that they are the same, just with different terms. For example, the greek world sprung from the Void, or Chaos. Well that is not so different from Norse or Egyptian Mythology. Each of the beginnings of their worlds are the same, only Chaos to them is Ginnungap and Ma'at."
"I'm sorry, did you say Matt?"
He chuckled, "No, Ma'at. It means Creation."
"So if we all began the same...does that mean we're connected somehow?"
"I would think so, yes."
"But how are we able to coexist right now? Like in this moment?"
He sighed, "Territories. I believe that after our pantheon, the greek pantheon, grew to so much power, the other pantheons faded into the background. Not faded forever, mind you, but they simply clung back to their native lands. What I am saying by that is, the Norse pantheon for example, is not as powerful as ours. Or at least most of the gods and monsters are not. They are warriors, and are experienced in combat, but in terms of raw power, they do not outdo us. If they were full scale, they would be scattered worldwide, like we are, but since they are not as powerful as us, just like the other pantheons, they stay close to their territory, which would be the Scandinavian countries."
"Like Denmark and Sweden?"
"Those are two, yes."
I was still a little confused.
He continued, "Basically the other pantheons won't be very prevalent in the city, or in most parts of the world. But they will be in their home turf. Shinto in Japan, Norse in Scandinavia, Yoruba in Africa, and so on and so on."
The dots were starting to connect in my head, but it was a lot to process.
He chuckled, "I know it is a lot to take in, but that is what I know. I'm sorry I can't tell more."
Suddenly a thought clicked to me, a plan of sorts.
"Do you think that these Sons of Thor are from Scandinavia?"
His eyebrows furrowed, "I'd say so. But-"
"Do you think Ouranos traveled there and used his power to give life back to the Norse Pantheon?"
"Well they were never dead, just...inactive."
"Well did he use his power to make them active again?"
"It's a possibility, but Harper-"
"What if a half blood went to Scandinavia? What if that half blood could find the source and kill it? Stopping Ouranos from releasing any more Norse beings."
"What are you trying to say?"
I looked at him, my face revealing nothing. But I knew what was in my head. And it could be a plan...
"Oh, nothing. I was...just curious."
He didn't look very convinced, but he let me go.
"Very well, just be safe around Camp. And let me know if you have any more visions."
I got up and walked to the doorway, "I will."
I exited the Big House.
A couple of hours later, night fell, and we were ready to go.
We met in the forest behind Camp, well into the trees so no one could see us. We weren't spotted, as many Campers had already gone to sleep.
I was the first to arrive, mostly because I was a little anxious. Sneaking out I had done, broken the rules I had done, but ambushing two demigods from another pantheon? Haven't done that one.
I leaned against a tree, my dark clothes hid me well, but they weren't enough. I told Talon to use that power of his to make us some masks. Hope he didn't forget.
After ten minutes, I heard light rustling ahead of me. I looked, and saw him stepping towards me.
Talon had on black clothing too. A black leather duster with dark t-shirt and jeans, combat boots below. His sunglasses also hid extra skin, but I wasn't sure how he saw like that with it dark out.
"You're early." He pointed out
"Yeah well I'm ready to get this over with. Not much fun trying to stop a Camp invasion."
"You gotta admit, it's pretty cool to sneak out."
I just huffed, this guy was an idiot.
We waited another minute or two for Malachi. He wasn't late at all, but my nerves were getting the better of me.
Finally he appeared through the path Talon took, dark clothing on as well.
"Did you make that for him?" I questioned the assassin.
He nodded, a smirk on his lip, "Yeah. Bastard's never worn a black shirt in his life. Gotta be a good boy, don't you Kai? Sweet baby Kai?" He made kissy faces at Malachi, imitating Sera.
Malachi frowned at him, "What are you doing?"
I facepalmed, this guy was so dense. Great, one's dense as a board, and the other was a childish idiot. I guess that makes me Nervous Fucking Nancy. Quite a trio.
Talon groaned, "C'mon, you know what-"
"Guys, shut up!" I whisper yelled, "We can talk when we get into the city. Now Talon, I need you to make a beanie."
"Beanie?"
"Whatever those damn things are that you put on your head in winter! The fluffy things? I don't know just do the weird Nikandreos thing!"
"Okay okay, damn. Jeez, what's up your ass tonight?"
I glared at him. "What's up my ass? Do you ever say anything that doesn't make a normal person wanna throw up?"
He smirked, "Normal's overrated, Green Day. I'm extra."
"Really, Green Day? You're gonna use that one again? It's bad enough you call me goth girl, you don't need to start-"
He put a gloved finger over my lips. "Shh, I need to concentrate."
My head shook with annoyance, I smacked his finger away from my mouth, ready to fight him instead of the Sons of Thor.
"You are so-" I seethed, but Malachi stopped us both.
"Quiet, we don't want to alert the guards. Otherwise this will all be for nothing."
I sighed, "You're right, you're right. Let's just go before I strangle this idiot."
Talon chuckled, handing Malachi the black beanie.
"What's this for?" He asked.
"She said to make it. For that blonde ass hair I guess."
I turned to Malachi, "Yeah, you're uh, gonna have to cover it up."
He looked offended, "Why?"
"It'll stick out, the guards might be able to see it."
He didn't look happy about it, but he put it on anyways.
Talon handed us each a mask, to cover up any exposed skin left. When we got them over our faces, we began to sneak.
And by sneaking, I mean leaves crunching everywhere.
Turns out Ouranos didn't train his son in the art of stealth.
I turned to Malachi, who was wincing at his every step. We were all in a crouching position, so I was happy to turn back, away from Talon's rear end.
"Will you keep it down?!"
He looked apologetic, I almost felt bad for scolding him.
"Sorry!" He whispered.
We continued to creep through the Camp, guards were everywhere, torches lit and outside lights on, the darkness was getting less and less prevalent. Not good.
It didn't help that there were so many damn leaves on the ground.
I was good at stealth. I trained myself when I was eleven how to avoid making noise when I moved, and how to sneak past pretty much anyone that didn't know what they were doing. I learned this in order to sneak from Camp and find out information on my brother's whereabouts. Wasted time, looking back on it.
As for Talon...he was surprisingly good. Not as stealthy as I was, but I just chalked that up to me being lighter than him. He moved quiet enough, I guessed Jack Colter taught him some stealth techniques.
Malachi did not receive such lessons.
He was making so much noise, that I considered just leaving him here. But that would be stupid, because he was our equalizer against the Sons of Thor.
Talon turned around and looked past me at Malachi and hissed, "Will you shut up!"
"I'm not doing it on purpose!" Malachi protested.
I looked around, and noticed a couple of guards coming our way, I inwardly cursed and motioned with my hand that people were coming, thank the gods these two understood.
We tucked and rolled away, hiding behind the training arena. We were huddled up on the wall, me in the middle of the two boys, too close for comfort.
"Scoot over!"
I heard Talon sniff me, and promptly turn his head away in disgust.
"Ugh, Happy to. You have that damn girl smell all over you." He scooted a foot away.
I sniffed myself, finding absolutely nothing bad about it.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
To my utter horror, Malachi sniffed too, then furrowed his eyebrows in confusion at Talon.
"Yeah, what are you talking about? She smells the same as Sera. I believe the source is...shampoo? Or is it conditioner..."
"It's that damn perfume or whatever it is! Damn it Sick Puppies, Matt's not here! You don't have to put yourself out there!"
I was about to scream at him. He was being such a dumbass right now. And to make matters worse, Malachi knew nothing about personal space, as we were basically Siamese twins right now.
I felt my ears heat up, "Can you back away, please?"
He did, "Sorry about that."
"Thanks." I turned around, silent until the two guards were out of earshot. Okay, it was safe to yell at the idiot assassin.
"What is wrong with you?!"
He shrugged.
"First of all, Sick Puppies? Really?! I literally only listen to like one of their songs! And second, I wear perfume anyway! You just need to-"
Malachi put his hand over my mouth, to shut me up. My eyes widened at all of the chaos that was happening.
Talon backed away quickly from the edge of the building, mockingly coughing at my girl smell. Jackass.
"We gotta haul ass, there's more guards coming. I see a straight shot towards the woods on the other side of Camp, we can walk in there until we reach the road. Sound good?"
I couldn't respond, as Malachi still had a fucking hand over my mouth.
"HMMM!" I mumbled loudly.
He removed it, "My apologies, but you were being too loud."
I glared at him, "We are having Common Sense 101 when we get back, and Sera's joining too."
Talon shoved me on my butt, "Now! Now's our chance!"
The two boys took off, leaving me, the one who came up with this whole thing, on the ground.
I managed to calm myself, and got up, quickly zooming to the other side of Camp like a panther.
We made it to the woods, and from there, things were easier.
We trekked through until finally making it to the road, the half moon above illuminating the asphalt clearly. Due to our trained and enhanced eyesight, we were able to see very well.
We stayed on the side of the road, and booked it all the way to the city. That's right, we ran there. It's actually not that far to be honest, only a few miles. And we were all pretty fast, me more so than them. Or actually, Malachi, since he had that whole teleporting thing...
But either way, we couldn't split up, so we went at the same pace, a good speed all the way until we came to a lookout.
We stopped at a sloped hill, freshly cut grass on the side next to the railing. Beyond the railing of the road, there was a clearing of trees, like a plane had parted them with it's wind, and it revealed an outline of the city. Millions of lights on, hundreds of skyscrapers towering over everything, the dark night sky above, even taller and greater.
I looked up at it, the stars were very clear tonight. They littered the milky way in dots, a stream of galactic white was smeared across the black canvas too. Very pleasing to look at.
We all seemed to be impressed by this, for we had stopped running in our tracks. At first to get a look of the city, but now to stargaze.
"You know, I prefer the countryside...but this, damn you gotta admit it's beautiful." Talon muttered.
Malachi nodded, "Agreed."
I closed my eyes, and felt the gentle breeze play with my hair. I had it in a single long braid that Sera had done for me, but a couple of loose strands flowed with the wind, tickling my cheek.
I suddenly imagined myself, with Matt, doing this same thing. Only we were laying together on the grass, hands interlocked, maybe just after a fun date. Yeah, that sounds nice.
I elaborated on the fantasy more, imagining the date. Somewhere fun, not too serious or anything, just him and I enjoying the company of each other. I figured afterwards he would surprise me with a spot on some cleanly cut grass, maybe in the city, maybe at Camp, but we would be together, and we would be looking at the stars.
Shark Boy, I thought giddily.
Harper. I imagined him saying it with his deep yet gentle voice, those eyes staring into mine, a knowing smile on his lips. I imagined leaning towards those lips, and then...
"So what? We gonna jump on one of those rooftops?"
I turned to the source of the voice. Talon, of course, had interrupted my Matt fantasy.
I shook my head, "Uh yeah..." I pointed to a relatively tall building ahead, "That one. We'll get on that one."
"Well, let's go! Can't stand around all night." He and Malachi broke into another run.
I took one last look at the stars, maybe I would get to live out that fantasy sometime...
We got on the rooftop with ease.
We didn't even need to boost each other up. I jumped on the ladder and immediately went to town. I swung from rails and stairs, windows and everything else for a few minutes before getting to the top. I flipped and jumped all over the place, using the environment with ease.
Talon was clever in his approach, he morphed a grappling hook with his hand, and shot it at the roof, the rope went up with ease and latched on to it, pulling him up there no trouble.
Malachi was the quickest. He simply jumped up there, using his extreme strength. That's it, he just bent down, and jumped a couple hundred feet, no big deal.
Eh, my way's cooler. I looked like Catwoman out there, you should've seen me.
Anyway, we all regrouped on the roof, a good view of the city in front of us.
"Shall we have a look?" Malachi suggested.
Talon gestured to the ledge, "Ladies first."
Malachi raised an eyebrow, "I am not a female, Talon. You know this. Remember when we went swimming in the oasis on the Island? We were both nak-"
I held a hand up, "Okay! We don't need to hear the details of that memory!"
Talon laughed as we all walked to the edge of the roof. We knelt down to get a better look, the streets, other rooftops...these guys could be anywhere.
Talon nudged me, "Hey Green Day, you know that Malachi once went skinny dipping with Sera?"
Of course he wouldn't take this seriously, but I had to admit, I was a little intrigued.
"What?"
"The truth. And it was like a month after they had met. I mean, they were twelve, so it wasn't sexual or anything. But still! This dude has no sense of boundaries!"
Malachi blushed, "I did not know the implications at the time Talon. I did not want my clothes to get wet."
Talon smirked, "Nah, you were a little perv, that's what you were."
"A what?"
"A perv, it's a creepy person that-"
I punched him in the shoulder, "Will you shut the hell up! I need some binoculars. Use that ability again."
When he didn't, I turned to him in annoyance.
"What is it now?"
"You didn't say please."
I rolled my eyes, "You can't be serious."
"Manners get you things. No manners, no binoculars."
I groaned, and growled under my breath, "Please, can I have some damn binoculars?"
He chuckled, "Comin' right up." He concentrated on his hand, and ten seconds later, a pair of binoculars came out of thin air.
I grabbed them, "Thanks."
I looked into them, searching for anything strange, anything that would give me a hint these guys were active right now.
Of course, the dumbass to my right thought this was story time.
"And there was another time, Malachi killed a giant eel and gave it to Sera as a gift." He laughed, "She ran off screaming! You really know how to charm a girl, huh Malachi?"
I wasn't looking, but I guessed Malachi blushed again.
"I thought it was a kind gesture."
"Damn, it was something else to watch those two fall in love. Like watching damn birds trying to dance in front of their mates. It's just funny."
"Why are you so intent on embarrassing me?" Malachi was genuinely curious, "Is this payback for that time I broke your sunglasses? Because if it is-"
Talon interrupted him, "Nah, nah. I'm just messin' with ya."
They fell silent, finally. A minute passed, nothing in the binoculars, but I was glad Talon had shut up.
Of course, all good things come to an end.
He muttered to me, "How was that date with Logan?"
"Fine."
"Oh come on, while we're waiting for these pricks to show up, give us some details. Second base? Third?"
I smacked his arm, "Are you stupid?!"
He raised his hands, "Sheesh, sorry. Didn't know you were waiting until marriage. I was frisky with Mary at twelve, so I'll be damned if I have any sense of age."
Malachi reared his head back, "Twelve?! You had intercourse at twelve?" He couldn't look at his old friend, "by the gods, Talon. What is wrong with you?"
Talon protested, "I never said we had sex! Damn, you're spinning it all outta control! We just made out and grabbed each other, that's all! Besides, who are you to talk? You went skinny dipping with Sera at twelve!"
"Th-That is not the same thing!"
"It might as well be!"
The two bantered back and forth for another minute straight, I just tuned it out. Stupid boys.
Damn, still no sign of the Norse demigods.
Finally they stopped arguing, but Talon turned back to me, "So, Logan..."
"Yeah?"
"You guys dating now?"
"No, we are not dating."
"Oh...why not?"
I groaned, "Weren't you the guy that said it was none of your business?"
He shrugged, "Hey, I'm just bored."
I turned back to the city. But as soon as I did, the words escaped my mouth.
"Matt's alive."
I didn't think they heard me right, because they both just stared at me wide eyed. Nah, nevermind they heard right.
"Are you sure?" Malachi asked.
I nodded, "Yeah. Levi confirmed it. He's been training with his father on some Island, trying to get stronger for the war."
Talon chuckled, "Well, I'll be damned. He did have a good reason after all."
I glared at him, "Excuse me?"
"I said he had a good reason to leave without a trace. Hercules offering to train him for an entire year? That kid's probably strong as hell right now."
"So that's a good reason not to tell me? Like, at all?"
"Well, yeah."
Okay, now I was getting pissed. What excuses Matt to leave like he did? So what if he had to? He could have fucking told me!
Talon knew I was about to go off and raised a hand calmly, "Look, I know that's not what you want to hear. But if he did tell you, honestly, would you have let him go?"
"Well...Yes!"
He raised an eyebrow.
"Okay fine! No, I wouldn't. But still, I mean...he could've taken me with him, or something..."
"All in the past now. If he's alive, then that's all that matters."
"You don't understand! I have to find him as soon as possible!"
"That's wishful thinking, kid."
My face was burning with anger. I was tired of the same thing being brought up. I was about to retort with something, but Malachi stopped us, pointing ahead in the distance.
"Am I hallucinating, or are those blue lights?"
We followed his point to another rooftop, slightly lower than ours, and sure enough, there were two glinting lights.
"That's...weird."
"Some kind of alarm or something?" Talon guessed.
"No, I recognize that." Malachi muttered, the tension in the air building. "That's electricity, from a distance."
Electricity.
"It's them." I muttered, "Guys, it's them!"
"Are you sure?" Talon said with a whisper, we were all sinking lower to the rooftop, trying to hide ourselves from view.
"Electricity? Yeah I'm sure. Those are the Sons of Thor!"
Malachi looked at me, "Should we attack them?"
I shook my head, the only thing that was above the edge was our eyes and foreheads, just enough that we could still see the blue lights.
"No, we wait. See what they do. If they get closer, then we attack. But for now, don't make a single-"
My words stopped abruptly, as the blue lights disappeared with a flash.
A moment's delay.
"Uh, where the hell did they go?" Talon asked.
I didn't dare move my head, I used my eyes to dart around and try to spot them. Had they saw us? Did they escape?
Everything changed when Malachi yelled, "Behind us!"
We immediately turned, greeted by two men, their weapons raised above their heads.
Luckily we reacted in time. Malachi side kicked the big one in the gut, sending him skidding back to the other edge of the roof. Talon and I somehow coordinated a unified attack on the smaller one. Talon quickly created a celestial bronze sword and blocked the man's axe attack. The metal clanged and his arc stopped in midair, he was wide open.
I took my shot, bouncing from the edge of the roof behind us and kicking him in the gut, just like Malachi did, only I resembled a bullet. The smaller one seemed surprised at my speed, he had been caught off guard. He was sent right next to his brother, the axe falling next to him, a grunt escaping his lips as he laid on the ground.
The big one helped him up, they both chuckled.
"Fast little things, aren't they brother?" The big boy said with an accent.
The smaller one retrieved his axe and spun it in his hand, "Yeah, gonna have to be careful with these, brother."
We all got in a fighting stance, "You expecting us?"
They laughed, and got in a fighting stance. Yep, these were the guys in my vision.
"Could ask the same thing to you, little greek." The big one said.
"Yeah, how'd you know we was ere?" The smaller one added, saying here like ear.
I said screw it, might as well tell them. Our goal was to kill these guys anyway.
"Saw you in a vision, thought we bring the party to you."
"And what did ya see in that vision?"
"You destroying our Camp."
They howled with laughter.
Talon growled, "But that ain't gonna happen, you Norse pieces of shit are going down!"
They were still chuckling, but the smaller brother looked a little impressed.
"Ah, so yer smart enough to figure that out, eh?"
The big one nudged him, "Shall we introduce ourselves to the foreign half breeds?"
"We shall."
The big one pointed to himself, "I'm Bjorn."
The smaller one patted himself on the chest, "And I'm Bo. Well, Boris actually, but I go by Bo. For short, ya know?"
He turned to his brother with a smile on his face, "Hey, that rhymes!"
Bjorn chuckled, "Indeed, just as the flyte of our tales will contain the story of how we cut up three little Greeks, no sweat."
Talon laughed, "What the fuck is a flyte?"
Bo didn't look amused, "A poem of sorts. One about your death, specifically, Cowboy." He chuckled at the nickname. Man, these guys chuckled a lot.
Talon brought out his old side, and grinned sadistically, "I'll show you cowboy. Perhaps a bullet in each testicle?"
The brothers laughed.
"Quite a feisty greek here! I kinda like him! Do we have to kill him, brother?"
Bjorn nodded, "Yes, Ouranos' instructions were clear."
"Wait, what?" Malachi said.
Bo put his hands above his sides, "Yes, we know all about you three. Harper Pierce, Malachi Stallard, and Talon...well, I guess it's just Talon, hehe."
Bjorn looked at me specifically, "And Matthias Beckett. Oh yes, we know him well."
My glare broke, "Wh-What?"
"Encountered him recently, didn't we brother. Nearly beat him, that we did."
Bo laughed, "Yeah! His daddy had to save him!"
My glare returned, deathly now.
"Where is he? Tell me where he is right now!"
They hefted their weapons, their faces now lacking amusement.
"Tell you what, you beat us, and we'll tell you. Deal?"
I unsheathed my knives, spun them in my hands skillfully, and brought them in front of me.
"Deal."
"You're dead meat, greek scum." Bo said.
"Enough talk." Malachi told them, then he turned to Talon and I, "You know what to do. This is for the Camp!"
We nodded at him. He was right, this was for the Camp, this was to save the Camp. We would fight with our all here, because if we didn't, so many people would die, and our home would be destroyed.
I practically felt Talon's smirk next to me as he morphed dual revolvers in his hands.
"Let's kick the stupid tattoos right off of them, whaddya say?"
"For once, I agree with you."
With the night dark, the city inactive, and weapons in hand...we charged the Sons of Thor.
Only one side's gonna leave alive.
(000)
The Sons of Thor are back, and they have names now! Hope those weren't too generic. I wanted them to start with the same letter since they're brothers, so I thought Bjorn and Bo sounded pretty good.
As for Chiron explaining some of the other pantheon's existence, I had some trouble writing it in a cohesive way, as the topic is a bit tough for me to word. But I did my best, and I hope it made some sense.
No Camp Battle this chapter sadly, and a cliffhanger again! I'm sorry guys, but this went on longer than I expected. I hope you enjoyed some of the more emotional moments and funny banter between Harper, Malachi, and Talon though. I promise the next chapter and the chapter after that will be filled with fight scenes, so expect some heavy action in the near future!
Anyways, thanks for reading, be sure to stay tuned for the next chapter! I've got some time on my hands now, so expect it to come out soon.
Until next time.
