*We open up in Jay's Workspace, only to find Janna, Kermit, and Ed in place. Janna is currently holding two frozen hamburgers in front of a smartphone that Kermit's holding with a devious look on her face.*
Janna: We good to go, frog?
*Kermit gives a thumbs up before quickly pressing the record button on his phone, signaling for Janna to start*
Janna: Hey guys, check this out. Two ordinary hamburgers. But when expertly tossed with the skill of a champ, they become...
*Janna proceeds to throw the burgers onto the grid, which Ed promptly jumps and begins riding them like skates*
Ed: A one-way ticket to paaaaiiin! Oof!
*As Ed collides face-first with a wall, the noise makes Jay come out of a nearby door, thoroughly confused about what's going on.*
Jay: All right, what are you guys doing? Can't you see I'm busy protesting Cartoon Network's decision to cancel Infinity Train?
Janna: Oh, hey, Jay. We were just making a video for TikTok.
Kermit: Yeah, we were trying to recreate the opening scene from the Spongebob episode "Wet Painters." I think we nailed it.
Ed: I was the starfish man!
Jay: *Gasp* and you didn't invite me! I'm insulted! And here I was, about to ask you guys to read the new chapter of Comet vs. with the rest of us!
Ed: What? No! Story good for Ed! Ed needs storytime with the Monsters and the explosions and the flying monkeys!
*Janna looks at Jay for a moment and then just gives one of her infamous, half-lidded smirks.*
Janna: All right, how about we skip the drama and get to the point where I offer to let you take part in what we're doing if you release the next chapter.
*Everyone just looks at her in utter confusion at this, to which she merely shrugs.*
Janna: Oh, like you guys didn't know where this was headed. I'm just speeding up the process.
Jay: I can respect that. All right, then, let's start the chapter! In the meantime, I'm going to recreate Spongebob memes for TikTok!
It was a nice, sunny morning at the Diaz house as Marcia got up and got dressed for the day. From her perspective, though, it felt like her daily routine got thrown off. She forgot to plug her phone in overnight, meaning it ran out of juice long before it could wake her up. Ergo, she woke up groggy and had to skip out on her daily stretches so she could grab some breakfast before school.
And this is why you stick to a routine, Marcia. No surprises to be found, she thought before stifling a yawn as she walked out the door into the hallway.
"Morning, Marcia!" She heard Comet call out with his signature energy.
And, of course, Mr. Sugar Rush is already up. He better not have eaten all the cereal again. "Morning, Comet," she groggily said before taking a step forward, only to suddenly trip.
"AHHHHHHHHH!" Marcia screamed as she founded herself sliding down a massive waterslide instead of stairs. As the slide began to twist and turn in every direction, Marcia's screams of terror turned into those of excitement and laughter. At last, Marcia reached the bottom of the slide, which opened to reveal a giant swimming pool in what was once her living room. After diving feet-first into the water, Marcia opened her eyes and kicked for the surface, her mind now fully awake.
"DUDE, THAT WAS AWESOME!" Marcia shouted in enjoyment. "Way to wake someone up after a good night's sleep, Comet!"
"I know, right?" Comet said as he walked over with a group of laser puppies in tow, now clad in a turquoise swimsuit and pink swim cap. "Stairs are just so boring! Water slides are way more fun!"
Marcia giggled at her friend's crazy way of thinking as she looked around her house to see that Comet converted the entire first floor into a pool. He even went the extra mile by putting all the furniture on platforms covered in protective bubbles.
"Well, I just hope that my parents don't flip when they see what you did with the place, Comet."
"Oh, we're flipping, Mija!" Mr. Diaz shouted as he proceeded to do a front flip into the pool, splashing everyone in sight. His wife soon followed this up as she expertly pulled off a swan dive. Unable to contain their excitement any longer, the laser puppies proceeded to jump into the pool one after the other. Much to Marcia's amusement, she noticed that Comet had given each of the puppies cute little floaties to keep them safe, which only made them even more adorable. One of the puppies wound up barking happily as Mrs. Diaz came up from underwater and grabbed hold of it, making it lick her face in joy.
"I love this, Comet. Now we don't have to go to the beach to go swimming!" Mrs. Diaz cheerfully told the lad.
"Si!" Mr. Diaz said in agreement as he came back up, spurting water like a whale. "This is the perfect getaway without actually having to get away!" He said before swimming off by himself.
"Yeah, no kidding, Comet. This is an amazing surprise! And everyone seems to like it!" Marcia proclaimed as she continued to tread water.
"Well, not everyone. Coryn won't come down here for the life of him," Comet told her before pointing out the Hoothoot. Sure, enough, the owl Pokémon was perched atop a piece of furniture and refused to budge. Whenever water got too close to him, he began to hoot and holler in a panic.
"I guess that makes sense. The feathers in real-life owls lack the oil that keeps other birds from being waterproof so that water can weigh them down," Marcia noted.
"Yeah, I should probably rescue him when I get the chance," Comet said as he scratched his head before his face began to light up with a realization about something. "Wait, I just remembered something! You'll never guess who I invited over here!"
Before Marcia could guess, she felt a pair of hands suddenly cover her eyes, making her panic a little. That is until she heard the voice of someone from behind her. "Guess who?"
Marcia gasped. She'd know that voice anywhere! "Aqua? Is that you?!" Marcia felt the hands move away from her eyes, giving her the chance to turn around and look. Sure enough, there was Aqua the Mermaid, wearing her signature yellow-starred shirt, swimming happily in the water. Marcia couldn't help but squeal in joy as she quickly hugged the other girl, with the Mermaid Princess gladly returning it!
"Oh, how I have missed you, friend Marcia!" Aqua happily told the human girl. "It has been too long!"
"Aqua, I can't believe you're here! What are you doing here?" Marcia finally got around to asking. At this, Comet sat down and stuck his feet in the water as he lazily began to kick at it.
"Oh, I told her how I wanted to turn your living room into a pool and asked if she wanted to come over and hang out," he casually explained.
"And I could never turn down a reason to spend time with Comet," Aqua joyfully said. "And it means that I can have the chance to do this!" Suddenly, Aqua proceeded to grab Comet and drag him into the pool and her arms.
"Whoa, Aqua! You could end up hurting him if you're not careful!" Marcia worriedly told her.
"Don't worry, Marcia. I can totally handle it!" Comet said, giving her a thumbs up in response.
"Besides, this is how we merfolk show affection to those we love," Aqua told the Diaz girl.
"R-really?" Marcia asked, not fully convinced by this.
"Yes. In the old days, my people would drag a person they liked underwater to claim them for themselves in a display of love and friendship." There was something about how the mermaid said that with a cheerful smile on her face that unnerved Marcia a little bit. She'd seen girls who would put on a sweet face in front of others, only for them to be exuding an aura of protectiveness and jealousy. And right now, Marcia could only find one hidden message behind Aqua's smiling face: do not interfere.
So she's got a crush on Comet, too, huh? Marcia quickly surmised. She suspected as much when they first met that Aqua had feelings for Comet that went beyond mere friendship, but her current behavior seemed to all but confirm it. Nervously laughing, Marcia finally managed to speak again. "Well, if that's the way your people work, then you do you. I won't judge." Don't worry, Aqua. I wouldn't try and get between you and Comet. Besides, I've already got my heart set on Jackson.
Just then, Marcia felt a blast of water hit the back of her head, getting her even more soaked than she already was. "All right, who's the wise guy who just did that!?" Marcia yelled in anger as she looked around the pool, but she didn't see anything. Nothing that is, except for a blue, seahorse-looking creature swimming in the water.
"Horsea!" The sea creature angrily said as it pointed its tubular mouth at Marcia again, shocking her.
"Misty, no!" Aqua shouted as she let go of Comet and swam to the creature. "Marcia is a friend. We do not use attacks on our friends, understand?"
"Horsea," the animal said, seemingly in guilt.
"Good. As long as you know not to do that again, you are forgiven."
"Comet, is that adorable little sea creature what I think it is?" Marcia asked her friend, who could already feel the irritation emanating from her, making him panic.
"Marcia, wait! I know what you said about no more bringing Pokémon to life, but I can explain!" He told her as he began to freak out.
"No, Comet. It is my fault," Aqua said, speaking up. "I am sorry, Marcia, but after Comet told me about how delightful these 'Pokémon' were, I told him how I wish I could have one for myself."
"So, after a few days of trial and error, I managed to recreate the spell I used to bring Coryn out of the game and did the same for Aqua," Comet finished explaining. "Ta-da! Meet Misty the Horsea!" he happily proclaimed.
"Horsea!" the water Pokémon happily said.
"And as a bonus, now Aqua will have someone to protect her in case Diavolo ever escapes, or someone else tried to come after her," Comet was quick to add on.
Marcia sighed, knowing that she couldn't argue about this. Comet didn't mean to do anything wrong; he was just looking out for his friends, in his own, Comet-y way. With that explanation out of the way, Marcia finally decided to climb out of the pool and get dry.
"Well, all that aside, Comet, maybe give us a heads up before you try something like this again," she asked as she pointed to her shoes. "Wet socks are considered a form of torture in some countries."
"Relax, Marcia. I can dry you off no sweat!" Comet told her as he climbed out of the pool and raised his Wand. "Instant Dry Clean Heat Ray!" Before Marcia could react, she found herself blasted by a beam of energy, but she felt no pain. When the beam had subsided, she discovered that all of her clothes were now completely dry and warm. Like, fresh out of the dryer-dry!
"Wow. You are getting better with your magic, Comet!" Marcia told him, impressed by how practical that spell was. Before he could thank her for the compliment, though, they were interrupted by the ringing of the doorbell.
"Oh! I'll get it!" Comet said as he rushed to the front door, opening it to hear the sound of a horn going off.
"Oh, hey, Mom...MOM!?" Comet gasped in shock and catching everyone's attention. Sure enough, standing in the front doorway was Lake Dragonfly, riding atop one of the family's many servants while another stood next to what seemed to be a crate full of luggage.
"Hello-" Comet quickly shut the door on the Queen and her attendants before they could enter and then looked around the living room in a panic.
"GUYS, MY MOM'S HERE! I GOTTA HIDE EVERYTHING!" As he looked around the living room, he began scanning for anything even remotely out of place that needed to be hidden. That meant the water slide, the pool, and the giant yellow submarine in the middle of said pool.
"Does that happen to include me as well?" Aqua asked in concern.
The next thing anyone knew, Comet was busy zapping away at the house, getting rid of the pool, the slide, everything! Thankfully, he didn't get rid of Aqua, though. He merely used his spell to give her legs so she would look like a human girl.
"Okay, Aqua. Hold Misty and sit on the couch. And whatever you do, you can't mention how you're from the All Blue, got it?" Comet never told his parents about his little excursions to that pirate-centric dimension, and he no intention to let them find out like this. Aqua nodded in understanding, clinging to Misty and pretending she was a plushie as Comet ran back to the door, using one last spell to change into his regular clothes before hastily opening it.
"Mom! What a pleasant surprise!" Comet said as he desperately tried to hide how nervous he was. "What, uh, what brings you here?"
"Well, I was in the neighborhood, and...oh, am I kidding? Your Dad kicked me out of the castle!" Everyone gasped in shock at this, but Comet's face merely went deadpan as he heard the news.
"All right, what did you do this time?" Believe it or not, this wasn't the first time Comet's Dad had kicked his Mom out because she pissed him off.
"What? I didn't do anything, Comet!" Lake said in her defense. "I mean, sure, I left a few of my clothes laying around, but it's not like I did something crazy like bring a herd of pig-goats into our bedroom."
"Didn't you do that one time?"
"That's not the point, sweetie," Lake said, getting the conversation back on track as she helped one of the servants carrying in her luggage. "I just thought I could lay low here for a day or two until this whole thing blows over. So, what do you say, Comet? You fine with putting up with your Mom for a while?"
"Of course, you are welcome here!" Mr. Diaz said as he brought Lake in for a hug. "Any family of Comet's is welcome in our house! Plus, you can watch the kids while me and the wifey actually get away! ¡Hasta mañana!" With that, Mr. Diaz joined his wife as the two went to their room to pack their bags for an impromptu vacation while Lake laughed.
"They seem nice!" she said as she felt something small begin to bat at her leg. Looking down at her feet, she was surprised to find one of the laser puppies looking up at her and barking happily. "Oh, hello there, little one! Aren't you the cutest little thing!" Lake couldn't resist picking the dog up and holding it in her hands, with the puppy seeming to enjoy the attention. Everything was going fine until the puppy started shooting lasers that narrowly missed her head and hair. Comet nervously looked as the entire scene unfolded, gulping as he saw his Mom look at him with a very cross expression on her face.
"Comet," she sternly said his name. "If your father knew that you were using your magic in such an irresponsible manner, he would send you straight to Sgt. O's-"
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" And, of course, Comet started screaming as soon as he heard the name of that place, much to everyone's concern.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Marcia said, coming over to calm her friend down. "Comet, it's alright. You're not going to that place. I'm sure your Mom was only joking. Right, your highness?" Marcia politely asked Queen Lake. The fierce and unforgiving look in her eyes, however, said something different: mention that place in front of Comet again, and you're going to be out on the street!
Lake was taken aback by the defiance in Marcia's eyes. Most people would think twice about staring down a Queen like this, yet here was Comet's friend and roommate, doing just that! I can see why my son's so fond of her, Lake thought, impressed by the girl's apparent fearlessness. Soon, though, Lake snapped out of her musings and went to her son. "Of course I was kidding, Comet," she said with a teasing tone in her voice. "I argued against sending you to that place! And I, for one, enjoy destructive magical puppies!"
Comet seemed to calm down as he heard his Mom say that. "Oh, thank corn! For a second, I was afraid I was in big trouble!"
"Do not worry, Comet," Aqua said as she stood up and walked over to the group. "I do not think that your mother is the kind of person who would be angered by your need to freely express yourself."
"Oh? And who might you be, young lady?" Lake asked as she proceeded to look the newcomer up and down.
Oh, crud. Please don't mention where you're really from, Aqua! Comet was about to come up with some excuse for his Mom about who Aqua was. However, Aqua already seemed to be on top of things.
"I am Aqua. I am one of the many friends that Comet has made during his time living here on Earth. It is most delightful to meet you, Queen Lake," Aqua politely said before curtsying to the Queen.
Lake narrowed her eyes in suspicion, and for a second, Comet feared that his Mom saw through Aqua's lie. Much to his relief, though, Lake didn't get mad. Rather, she started to laugh. "Comet, you sly dog, you! I would have found someplace else to stay if I'd known you'd invited your girlfriend over for a visit!" she said as she teased her son, making the two of them blush!
"G-g-girlfriend?" Aqua repeated in embarrassment.
"NO! Mom, you got it all wrong! We're just good friends, like Marcia and me!" Comet said as he tried to clear up the huge misunderstanding that he thought his Mom had. However, on the inside, Aqua felt thrilled beyond words over this. It's said that a big step in any serious romantic relationship was meeting your partner's parents and earning their approval.
Could this be a secret sign that she approves of my feelings for her son? Does this mean that she endorses us getting becoming a couple, getting married, and then spending the rest of our lives raising a happy family on land and under the sea as we rule over our two kingdoms?! The mere thought of that only made Aqua blush even more.
The sight of how flustered her son was only made Lake laugh even more. She enjoyed teasing her little boy whenever she could, and she couldn't resist doing so after seeing him with another pretty girl in his company. Especially considering how she's the Princess of Oceanus, she reminded herself. In truth, Lake had always known about her son's excursions to the All Blue. She just chose not to say anything about them since she thought her son should have fun while he could.
"Um," Marcia stepped in to say, "I hate to butt in, but I would like to remind you, Comet, that we still have school to attend today, and we still haven't eaten breakfast yet." For emphasis, Marcia pointed to the watch on her wrist, showing that they were running dangerously close to having to skip breakfast if they wanted to make it to first period on time.
"Oh, crap, you're right!" Comet realized before he began to think of a plan. "Um, Marcia: you get some pop-tarts or something for us to eat while I show give Mom a quick tour around the house." Comet then turned to Aqua. "Aqua, do you know when your Dad will want you home?"
"My father said that I was free to visit until tomorrow. I do not think he will mind if I spent the night over here." She told him.
"All right, then. Aqua can stay in my room, and Comet's Mom can stay in his," Marcia proposed. "Does that sound fair to everyone?" No one seemed to have any objections to this. "Good. All right, Comet, you've got about ten minutes before we need to hoof it. Show your Mom the essentials around the house, and then we gotta head to school. We can show her and Aqua around town after school."
"Yay! Mother-Son bonding day! This is going to be a fun visit!" Comet excitedly proclaimed before grabbing his Mom by the wrist and leading her upstairs. "Come on, Mom! I'll show you my room!"
"Uh, what should I do with all this luggage, your highness?" one of the servants asked.
"Don't worry about that, good sir," Marcia told him. "We can take it from here."
"Okay then. Come on, Frank, let's head out!" And with that, the two servants opened a portal with a pair of dimensional scissors before stepping in.
"So, Aqua, have you ever had grape-covered toast before?" Marcia asked the mermaid, who shook her head in response. "Then you are in for a treat today."
"And this, Mom, is my room!" Comet said as he proudly opened the door and let his Mom into his custom bedroom. "It took some remodeling on my part, but I was able to make it an exact copy of my room back on Mewni. Or maybe I transported my room from Castle Dragonfly to Earth. Hard to tell, really," Comet admitted.
"Ooh ho ho ho ho!" Lake looked around her son's room in awe, proud that he could make something like this already. And still so young, to boot! This kid's a natural when it comes to magic, she thought to herself as she scanned the two-story tower that made up Comet's living quarters. That's when her eyes came upon something noteworthy. Standing in the center of the room was a makeshift arena cobbled together from various pillows and other items scattered around the room. The arena wasn't what drew her interest, though, but the people surrounding it. Standing in front of the makeshift ring were many strange creatures that Lake quickly realized were Comet's various spells. There were groups of winged, flying monkeys, a snail wearing a jetpack, a potted plant with teeth, a beanbag monster, a little blue man whose head was obscured by a helmet with a mohawk and whose clothes were adorned with zippers, a floating pink cloud with wings, a flying pig, a teddy bear with an eye patch, and some strange-looking bird. In the center of the ring, the bird seemed to be fighting against several creatures at once. And was winning!
"Come on, guys! He's just one little owl thing! How can he be so hard to beat?" This narwhal shouted as he watched the others lose.
"Hey, I like to see you do any better against this guy!" The Teddy Bear yelled in annoyance, only to be met with a talon to the gut.
"Come on, Coryn! Beat em' all!" the flying pig shouted.
"Hoo!" Coryn said in response.
"A hundred bucks says the Pokémon wins," the poodle-horse said as he held up a wad of cash.
"OH HEE HOO HA AHA!" one of the flying monkeys said, a phrase which here means "I'll take those odds and raise you a bundle of bananas!"
"Hey, guys!" Comet shouted out to the spells. "Care to take a break and come meet my Mom?"
At that, the spells all stopped what they were doing and looked over to see Comet, which prompted them to all wave and smile. "HI, COMET! HI, COMET'S MOM!"
"Aww, aren't you guys sweet?" Lake said as she looked at all the creatures that Comet had brought to life, proud of what her son could do. That was when the little bird came over and hopped into Comet's arms.
"Coryn! So this is where you ran off to!" Comet said as he affectionately patted the bird's head. "I'm sorry I couldn't get you away from the water sooner. Can you forgive me?"
"Hoothoot." The bird said as he nodded his little body.
"Oh, Coryn. I want you to meet someone," he spoke to the bird before holding it out for his Mom to see. "Mom, meet Coryn, one of my greatest creations to date!"
"Oh, hello there, little one," Lake said as he rubbed the owl's head. "I'm not even sure what sort of spell this, though."
"Well, see, Coryn's not a spell. He's a Pokémon."
"A Poke-what now?" Lake asked.
"A creature from a video game series that's very popular here on Earth. Remember that night I called you guys about that crazy nutjob that tried to kidnap me?" Comet said, bringing up the incident with Glorkon.
Lake nodded her head as she remembered how Comet called them out of the blue in the middle of the night. Her husband was beside himself over how Stg. Oleg's had indirectly put their son in danger.
"Well, long story short, I used magic to bring this little guy out of the games and into the real world. He helped save me, so I kept him. He's really strong, too."
"Oh, I'll be the judge of that, sweetie," the Queen said to her son as she quietly looked at the Pokémon. I'm looking forward to besting you, strange creature.
"Now that that's done, let's show you the most magical room in the entire house: the bathroom!"
"Comet, I'm not sure how magical a restroom would really be..." Lake said, unsure about this.
"Did I mention that humans can heat up their water so that it never gets cold?" Comet slyly mentioned.
"I'M IN!" Lake said enthusiastically.
Marcia and Aqua sat down to eat a quick breakfast consisting of toast with grape jam, some orange juice, and protein bars. "I know that it's not the 'breakfast of champions' Aqua, but it's the best that we can do on such short notice. Sorry about that."
"It is no bother, friend Marcia. I have never gotten to eat any of these things," Aqua said as she took a bite of the toast and immediately began to swoon over how delicious it was. "So sweet yet crunchy! What a strange and delightful delicacy!" the mermaid said in ecstasy, making Marcia smile.
Marcia still didn't know Aqua well, but she could already tell that she was a very sweet and compassionate girl that Comet held in very high regard. Anyone that Comet trusted was a friend in Marcia's book, and she was happy to get the chance to spend more time with her.
"So, Aqua, I know you only just met Comet's Mom, but do you think of her so far?" Marcia asked as she ate the protein bar.
"I think that she's a very kind woman and that she and Comet have a very close relationship with each other," Aqua said she finished her toast.
"Well, they do seem to have similar personalities. That much I can tell," Marcia admitted. "I only met her once before, but it feels like he takes a lot after her, whether he knows it or not."
"What do you mean?" Aqua asked.
"Well, it's kind of hard to describe," Marcia said as she tried to look for the right words to use. "If I had to say, they both seem to be on the impulsive side, not thinking things through before they act on them."
"Oh. Are you worried that having her stay here is a bad idea?"
Marcia shrugged. "Not really. I mean, I can already handle Comet well enough. What's the worst having his Mom around could do?"
At that exact moment, the two girls heard a loud bang come from upstairs, making Marcia face-palm.
"Why did I have to jinx myself like that?" She moaned. Reluctantly, she walked upstairs, ready to see what sort of disaster Mama Bear and her cub created. As she trudged through the hallway, she began to see a stream of water emanating from the bathroom, which set off all sorts of alarm bells in her head.
"Comet? Queen Lake, are you both in there? Are you guys all right?" She asked, not even sure if she wanted to know the answer. The answer came to her, though, as both Dragonfly family members came running out of the bathroom, followed by a rush of water that soaked her feet.
"I love the bathroom, Marcia!" Lake shouted as she followed her son.
"Not again!" Marcia moaned. Then she saw what had happened. Somehow, the bathroom toilet was clogged with all manner of objects, jamming it to the point where it flooded the entire room. Marcia wasn't sure, but she thought that she felt her eye twitch in anger as the two hooligans fled.
"Bye, Marcia! I'll see you at school!" Comet shouted as he ran out the front door and headed to school, while Lake ran back into Comet's room.
"COMET DRAGONFLY!"
Neighbors swore that they felt an earthquake emanate from the Diaz house's vicinity that morning.
"So that's it. My Mom's staying at our place for a few days, and we're going to use it for some Mom-Son bonding time!" Comet enthusiastically told Jackson and Karla as he walked down the Echo Creek Academy hallway. "Isn't that awesome?!"
"Yeah, awesome," Marcia grumbled as she brought up the rear. After Comet had unceremoniously ditched her to head to school, she tried to get inside his room and give his Mom a piece of her mind. Her efforts were in vain, though, as Lake had already locked the doors, keeping her out. Then to add insult to injury, she had to waste time calling a plumber to fix her bathroom and change her socks, eat breakfast, and brush her teeth all at once. And that was on top of having to run to school. She was not thrilled about how her morning went.
"Oh, come on, Marcia. Don't be like that! You know my Mom's awesome!"
"I don't know, Comet. Are you sure it's a good idea to have your Mom living with you, given the circumstances?" Jackson asked out of concern.
"Yeah, why?"
"Because he's probably worried that you'll screw up and get yourself sent to you-know-where," Karla pointed out, with Jackson nodding in agreement.
"Or she'll figure out that you're able to travel to other dimensions and battle Monsters every day. That fact alone would make your parents go ballistic." Jackson loved Comet's willingness to do what he wanted despite his parents, but he also knew when to draw the line.
Comet, however, didn't seem to know. Or care, because he just laughed his two friends points off. "Guys, relax. I'm pretty sure my Mom already figured out that I've traveled off of Earth already."
"Probably has something to do with the fact that she busted you for taking my family on that day-trip to Mewni and fighting a giant snake monster," Marcia snarked from behind them.
"Wait, what?" asked Karla.
"TL: DR, took Diaz family on a trip to Mewni for their anniversary, fought fire-breathing snake, found out Mom lies about doing lectures so she can do the same stuff," Comet casually told them all. "My point, though, is that my Mom's always been pretty chill about my ideas of fun. Growing up, she never seemed to get as mad as my Dad did when I got in trouble or ran off for some crazy adventure. She knew that I could take care of myself, and if she ever thought I was in over my head, she'd step in to save the day." Comet sighed as he remembered several occasions where Comet found himself with his back to the wall, only for his Mom to swoop in and save his butt. She was the absolute coolest person he knew, and he always wanted to be like her when he grew up.
"Hmm," Marcia pondered as she listened to her best friend go on about his Mom. "You know, looking at the two of you together, I can see where you get your hyperactive personality from, Comet. You're basically a younger, male version of your Mom," Marcia jokingly told him with a smile on her face.
"Well, duh," Comet retorted. "Where do you guys think I got my incredible good looks and charisma from?" he asked, making everyone roll their eyes at how highly the Prince seemed to think of himself at times. "And that's not all I got from my Mom, you know."
Before Comet had a chance to elaborate any further, their conversation got interrupted by the arrival of Justin and CometFan13. "Hey, guys! You're never going to believe what's happening right now!" Justin told them as he approached the group.
"Oh, hey Justin. What's going on?" Marcia asked the football player, who looked like he just ran halfway across the school.
"Some crazy little woman showed up and challenged everyone on the school wrestling team to a fight. She's facing off against all of them at once! But the crazy thing is, she's winning!" Justin explained to the other students.
"Whoa, really?" Jackson asked in astonishment.
"It's true—everyone in school's turning out to watch!" CometFan excitedly told them. "Come on, you guys don't want to miss this!" The football player and Comet's biggest fan then waved at the others to follow them as they proceeded to run in the opposite direction.
"Oh, this I gotta see. Come on, guys!" Karla shouted as she sprinted off after the pair, with Comet not hesitating to follow them. Jackson and Marcia just looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders, and decided to go along for the heck of it. However, Marcia had to question who on Earth could fight the school's entire wrestling team on their own. They had to be outrageously strong to do that all at once!
Marcia didn't have to wait long to get her answer. As the group gathered on the football field, they found a large crowd of students and even a few teachers, all cheering and hollering as the wrestling team took on the mysterious challenger. When the public proved unwilling to make way, Comet simply waved his Wand and magically created space for his friends to squeeze through, seemingly in defiance of several laws of science. As they finally got a glimpse of the mystery competitor, Marcia felt her jaw drop. Standing there, taking on at least half a dozen of the burliest, muscular boys on the men's wrestling team without breaking a sweat, was Lake Dragonfly.
To say Lake was winning was an understatement. Most of the wrestling team was lying on the ground, clutching at their stomachs and rolling around in pain. The remaining members were currently trying to dogpile on Lake to pin her down. In an impressive show of physical prowess, Lake managed to pick up all the boys at once, spin them over her head, and then throw them several feet into the air before letting them unceremoniously hit the ground. And the crowd just erupted into cheers!
"Come on! Is that really the best this school has got? I thought you guys were supposed to be tough!" Lake shouted as she proceeded to smack-talk the wrestling team, who could only groan at their crushing defeat. Even their coach was writhing in agony, having also been bested by Lake.
"Dude, who is this lady?"
"Is this woman some sort of professional wrestler?"
"I'm not sure if pro wrestlers are this good."
As people in the crowd started wondering who the short, blonde woman was that managed to outclass the best that Echo Creek Academy had to offer, Comet shouted out something that promptly answered their question:
"Mom?! What are you doing here?"
Lake turned around to see her son standing there, and she happily waved to him. "Oh, hi, sweetie," she said before running over and giving her son a big hug.
"Wait, MOM!? THIS LADY'S YOUR MOM?!" Justin yelled in shock as he couldn't believe what he just heard. Word soon spread through the crowd like wildfire: the lady that just owned the school's wrestling team was Comet's Mother!
Seeing that this would require some explaining, Comet converted his Wand into a microphone and began to talk like the announcer at a wrestling match. "Ladies and gentlemen of Echo Creek Academy, I, Comet Dragonfly, am proud to introduce you to this mystery competitor. Hailing from the Johansen Kingdom located in the dense eastern forests of Mewni and part of a family that's renowned for their prodigious strength and skill as avid hunters and warriors, meet the strongest woman in all the land, the High Queen of Mewni, my Mom, Lake DRRAAAGGOOONFLLLYYYY!"
"Hey, everyone!" Lake cheerily greeted the students, to which she received thunderous applause. CometFan13 even led a few students up to her and was practically drooling when he asked if they could pose for a selfie.
"I don't know what a 'selfie' is, but okay!" Lake agreed, much to CometFan's delight. After the students finally began to back off, Lake raised her hand to ask for their silence. "Now, I know you're all wondering what I'm doing here today, and I've got two reasons." Before Comet could react, he felt his Mom grab him in a headlock. "First, I wanted to make sure everyone here was treating my little boy here right," she told them as she playfully gave her son a noogie, prompting laughter from the crowd. Not "ha-ha, what a loser" laughter, but genuine "aw, that's so sweet" laughter, making Comet smile.
After she finished teasing her son, Lake then continued speaking. "The second reason is that I wanted to see the best fighters that this place's got. So, who's up for round two?" the Queen said, daring anyone to step forward. The wrestling team only groaned in agony in response to this question, making Lake frown. "Ah, you guys are acting like babies. When I was your age, I'll have you know that I was able to take down beasts three times your size!"
"Dude, no wonder Comet's so insanely strong," Justin said in astonishment. "His Mom's a wrecking machine!"
"That's the Johansen Genes for you," Comet said with great pride in his voice. "They're a family of warriors and hunters that have spent centuries honing their craft in the wilds of Mewni."
"My family got so good at it, we ended up attracting people from all over who wanted to learn our secrets," Lake said, continuing her son's explanation. "Pretty soon, we had enough people to found our own Kingdom in the wilderness. Save for my husband's family, there's not a Mewman alive who can best my people!" Lake let out a hearty laugh at this statement, garnering even more applause.
"I thought Comet's family had the only Kingdom in Mewni, though," Karla asked in confusion as the crowd began to disperse.
"Oh, a common misconception, Karla. Officially, our land's called the Dragonfly Kingdom. But since we've got the Wand, we're pretty much the head honchos of the entire dimension," Comet thoughtfully told his friend and crush. "Hey, Mom, meet two of the friends I made here at school. This is Karla Greason and Jackson Lee Thomas," Comet said, introducing the others to his Mother.
"Sup?" Karla told her. "I like your hair."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Queen Dragonfly," Jackson formally told her.
"Oh, you don't need to be so formal, dear. You're friends with my son, after all! And any friends my son has are fine in my book!"
"That aside, what are you doing here, Mom?" Comet asked. "I thought we were going to wait until after school to hang out."
"Well, we were, but then these really shady looking people carrying these suction cups on sticks came up to the door of the house-"
"They're called plumbers, and they're probably there to fix the mess you two made!" Marcia interjected.
"I figured that I shouldn't bother them, so I decided to come and find you so we can spend time together now! What do you say, Comet?" Lake asked her son.
"You don't need to ask me twice, Mom! Come on, I'm going to show you all the amazing things to be found on Earth!" Comet cheered, glad to spend time with his Mother over being stuck in a classroom.
"Hold up! Comet, you can't ditch school just to spend time with your Mom. We still have classes and work to do!" Marcia said, putting her foot down. She didn't want Comet to get in trouble with his teachers, and more importantly, the girl dreaded what would happen if the two of them went around Echo Creek unsupervised.
"Boo! Not fun!" Comet jeered, showing his obvious disdain for Marcia's sensible suggestion.
"Pfft, no need to worry about that, Marcia," Lake said, brushing off her concerns. "I can pull my son and his best friend out of school for a day if I want to. And if the Headmaster's got a problem, then I can always take back the gold we gave him to pay for Comet's expenses." Lake got a mischievous glint in her eyes as she added on that last part.
"So you're resorting to blackmail, then?" Marcia bluntly spelled it out as she resisted the urge to face-palm. "Fine. Let's do it. Let's go have a fun day on the town. It's not like I wasn't expecting any more surprises today!" she said in a very sarcastic tone that went over the heads of her friend and his Mom.
"Great! Let's go! This Mother-Son Bonding Day is about to get started!" Lake declared as she and Comet began to run off the school grounds. Groaning, Marcia had no choice but to head after them.
"If I don't come back, don't let Jonah touch any of my stuff. Turn it into a Marcia Museum!" She told Jackson and Karla before running off after the royals.
"I'll write a song in your honor, Marcia!" Karla cried to her friend as she ran out of sight.
Spongebob Narrator: Later that night...
After Comet and Marcia left for school and Lake ran off after the plumbers showed up, Aqua had the house to herself. So, to pass the time, she decided to use the Diaz family's TV to watch documentaries about Earth's oceans and their many creatures. Ever since she first learned that Comet was staying there, Aqua found herself fascinated by the dimension. Few people traveled to Earth due to its lack of magic. Combined with the human's ignorance of the larger universe, and the whole dimension had garnered a reputation as a primitive backwater.
Aqua didn't see it that way, though. She knew that any dimension that could enthrall the likes of Comet Dragonfly had to be worth knowing about, and so she resolved to learn as much about it as she could. And she was right: despite being seen as a backwater, Earth was home to all manner of amazing animals and people. Aqua saw fish and sea creatures the likes of which could never be found in the All Blue through watching nature documentaries! And there were so many wondrous tales of the sea and the human's relationship with it. She grew particularly fond of a show about a talking sea sponge who lived in a pineapple of all things.
And so, Aqua spent her day learning about Earth and its many sea creatures while Misty relaxed in a bucket of water she filled up just for her. By the time the others returned home, it was well after dark.
Comet and Lake were the first ones through the door, both of them laughing and cheering as they entered the house.
"Hello, Comet, Queen Lake," Aqua said to her friend/secret crush and his Mom. "Did you two enjoy yourselves today?"
"Heck yeah, we did! I don't think I've had that much fun in a long time!" Comet shouted amidst his laughter. "See, I told you that Earth's awesome, didn't I?"
"Son, I never doubted you for a moment, but I have to admit, I did think you were exaggerating some. Glad to see that it's every bit as fun as you keep telling us!" Lake told her child. "And I had no idea that they had so many different kinds of alcohol!" It was only now that Aqua noticed that Lake was carrying around a half-empty pack of beer in one hand, which would explain her and Comet's boisterous state of mind.
"Well, I think we've had enough fun for one day. I'm going to hit the hay. Goodnight, Aqua!" And with that, Comet and Lake began to walk up the stairs to Comet's bedroom, ready to turn in for the night.
"Good night, Comet. May your dreams be as enjoyable as the way you live your life," she told her friend. Having said that, Aqua then began to feel drowsy herself. Deciding that this would be a good stopping point, the mermaid turned off the TV and prepared to get ready for bed in Marcia's room. That's when Marcia herself finally trudged inside the house.
"Hello, Marcia. How was your d-oh my goodness! What in the Great Ocean's happened to you?"
Marcia looked like a complete and utter wreck. Her hair was all messed up, she was panting heavily, and dirt and sweat covered her clothes. And, for the third time that day, her socks were wet!
"Comet and Lake happened, Aqua. Comet and Lake happened," the other girl simply said. "Now, if you don't mind, I would like to shower and brush my teeth before those two ruin the bathroom again. We can talk afterward," she said before shuffling up the stairs, hoping to God that the bathroom was working again.
Thankfully for her, the plumbers did their job well; everything was in working order, and she could charge the fees to Comet. After a quick shower and brushing her teeth, Marcia got into her PJ's and got out a sleeping bag and some spare clothes for Aqua to wear. As Aqua got Misty to go to sleep for the night, Marcia used the time to rant about everything that Comet and his Mom did around town.
Everything went well at first. Comet took Lake around town and pointed out all the cool things found on Earth that Mewni never had. Everything from movie theaters and restaurants filled with foods like hamburgers and tacos. As soon as she heard that they both contained meat, she went to town on them with Comet.
Then there was the mini-golf course. Comet managed to teach his Mom the rules well enough, but once Lake saw the Candy Castle hole, she became convinced it was the lair of Lord Salivary of the Weebler elf clan and started smashing it. Luckily, they were able to get out before the cops arrived.
Next came the Zoo. Lake got it in her head that the place let you wrestle with the animals. The next thing Marcia knew, she was jumping into the Panda Bear's exhibit and tried picking a fight with them. Comet just wanted to hug the Panda Cubs and teach them Kung Fu.
"...And then, just as we were about to head home, we came across the Stop-N-Slurp, and Comet blurted out how they sell beer there. And it turns out that Queen Lake loves drinking alcohol, so she bought a pack and started drinking it there. In the middle of the store! Who does that?" Marcia asked as she lay face-first on her bed.
"Oh, dear. That would explain why she came home looking intoxicated," Aqua said as she listened to all of this. "But perhaps it wasn't as bad as you make it out to be?"
Marcia brought her head up. "That's not the bad part. The bad part was when she let Comet have some of the beer."
"How is that a problem, Marcia?" Aqua asked, genuinely confused.
"Let me guess: there's no age requirement for drinking alcohol in the All Blue, is there?" When Marcia saw that Aqua had no idea what she was talking about, she got her answer. "Yeah, well, here on Earth, we have to be 21 and older to drink booze. So the clerk called the cops on the two for serving drinks to a minor. After that, I just grabbed them and hoofed it all the way back home." Marcia groaned into her bedsheets in frustration. "If this keeps up, I'm never going to be able to show my face in town, and it's all because of Comet's Mom!"
Aqua looked at how her friend was stressed out and tried to come up with something to say. "Perhaps you are too hard on them, Marcia. From what I understand, this is the first time that Comet's gotten to spend any real time with his Mom since he left Mewni."
"Maybe I am Aqua. But that doesn't excuse the fact that they're not taken other people's feelings into consideration and just doing whatever they want!" Marcia argued. "Granted, Comet already does that, but at least he listens to me when I call him out on it! With Lake, I can't even get a word in before she runs off to do something new!"
"There, there, Marcia," Aqua said, patting her friend's shoulder. "It is only for another day or so. Once she leaves, I'm sure that things will return to normal, and you can clear everything up with the townsfolk."
"Here's hoping, I guess." Marcia then reached over to turn off her lamp. "Good night, Aqua."
"Good night, Marcia," Aqua said as the two tried to get a good night's sleep.
As the two girls were chatting with each other, Comet had said goodnight to his Mom and gotten into bed, ready to enjoy a good night's sleep. As he soon found out, though, that proved to be easier said than done. Whenever he felt himself getting closer to the ethereal realm of dreams, something reached out to hold him back. It was like he was trapped in a gigantic net that saw fit to blind and suffocate him inside his mind. At last, Comet woke up, only to find his vision remained impaired. Now panicking, Comet began to claw away at his fast, trying to free himself from whatever dastardly object that threatened to smother him. After a few moments, he managed to remove the offending object from his face: it was a cup to one of his Mom's bras!
"AAHHHHHHH!" Comet screamed as he fell out of bed and tossed the undergarment as far away as possible, understandably feeling creeped out by the whole sight. "Gross, gross, gross, gross! I know it's normal for guys my age to be interested in things like women's underwear, but not my Mom's! That's messed up!" Comet then grabbed his Wand off his nightstand and used it as a makeshift flashlight to look around his room. That's when Comet looked around and saw, to his annoyance, his Mom left her laundry lying all over. Dirty socks, unwashed shirts, underwear, and jewelry covered the boy's entire room! The biggest offender, though, was the giant mound of dirty clothes sitting where his Mom should've been sleeping. And what's worse was that he heard a lot of shouting coming from inside.
"I don't have time to deal with this shit," Comet grumbled to himself before walking over and using magic to change into a hazmat suit before crawling inside. After a minute or two of navigating through the clothes pile, Comet managed to locate its center and couldn't believe what he found in there. There was his Mom, dressed in a strange cross between her nightgown and makeshift battle armor as she fought against Coryn while several of Comet's spells watched.
"Mom! What the heck are you doing?!" Comet shouted in anger.
"Oh, hey, sweetie!" Lake waved to her son. "I just remembered how you were going on about how tough Coryn was, and I wanted to find out for myself!"
"But it's the middle of the night, Mom!"
"I know, right? Perfect time for a good old-fashioned rumble. Besides, your little owl friend was wide awake, so what's the big deal?"
"Hoo hoo!" Coryn said as the two continued their bout, much to Comet's annoyance.
"Well, can you keep it down? And clean up all your clothes; I don't need to be wake up to find your underwear sitting on my bed!"
"Aw, come on, Comet! Lighten up a little!" his Mom told him. "Now, if you'll excuse, I'm going to show this little bird thing why we Johansen's are the strongest fighters in all of Mewni!"
Comet looked on, exasperated that they would continue their bout regardless of what he said. Reluctantly, he crawled out of the clothes pile and returned to bed, trying to do everything he could to block out the noise coming from his Mom's late-night wrestling.
This will be a long night, Comet thought as he tried to get himself to fall asleep for several hours, to no avail. No matter how much he tried to block out the noise of his Mom's late-night roughhousing, he just couldn't do it! In fact, he was starting to think that the racket was getting even louder as time went on.
After about three to four hours of failing to fall asleep, Comet yanked the covers off, shot up out of his bed, and began to walk towards his mirror. Maybe it was due to the potential hangover he was feeling from the beer or the sleep deprivation, but something inside of Comet's mind had hit a breaking point.
"I never, in a million years, thought that I would have to resort to this. But you leave me with no choice, Mom!" Comet mumbled as he glared at the clothes pile where she heard her Mom continuing to fight all his spells. "I'M CALLING DAD!"
*Back in Jay's Workspace, the group has since ceased its video making for TikTok and is now playing darts. Except instead of a regular dartboard, they're using an image of an incredibly dumb-looking executive with the logo for Cartoon Network in the background. Janna manages to hit a perfect bullseye right between the suit's eyes.*
Janna: So, why are we doing this again?
Jay: Venting. I think that Cartoon Network's decision to not renew Infinity Train because it lacks an entry-point for kids is ridiculous and short-sighted.
Kermit: Well, I mean, you did see what happened in Book 3, right? That was pretty dark.
Jay: Yeah, well, so were the gruesome deaths of those Mirror Police guys in Book 2, and they had no problem showing that on TV, did they? Besides, they could have kept showing it on HBO Max like they were, and I'm betting that enough teens and adults watch it to justify its continuation.
Ed: I want to see the turtle girl again, the little dickens.
Janna: Hey, after what Disney did with mishandling my show's final season, I totally get it. But we should focus on the chapter. What made you decide to bring Aqua back?
Jay: Well, I knew that I wanted Aqua to be a recurring character in the story, and I thought that having her appear in my adaptation of one of the episodes from the show was a great idea. Plus, I wanted to give her Misty the Horsea.
Kermit: But I thought the whole Pokémon was a one-time thing.
Jay: I never said that it was, Kermit. If I want to keep some of Comet's friends involved in the story going forward, they gotta defend themselves. And barring magic of their own, suits of armor in the vein of Iron Man, or Stands, this was the best idea I could think of. Also, who doesn't love Pokémon?
Kermit: Fair enough. By the way, I liked the added scenes with Lake. Really shows off how close she and Comet are and gave us some quick lore about Mewni.
Jay: That's what I was going for. I intend to keep building up the world of my story as much as possible as time goes on, so everyone should keep their eyes peeled. Speaking of everyone, it's now time for
READER'S REVIEWS
FungusDungus000-Believe it or not, that final scene with Tammy wasn't in my original draft. I added it at the last minute to give her some more depth that the show didn't do with Tom until Season Two. That, and I wanted to remind readers why yandere are dangerous.
Guest 1-Thank you!
LockAndKey989-I wouldn't say Marcia is screwed. But let's just say that the next time she and Tammy meet, she will be a lot more aggressive towards her.
The Wandering Hippie-First off, Sasha's the one in Amphibia. You're thinking of Boscha from The Owl House. Though, to be fair, they're both alpha girls and bitches at the moment. And yes, in hindsight, I feel like this chapter shows off why Comet dumped Tammy the first time, as well as showing off their negative traits. Tammy cares about Comet, but she's obviously too overbearing in how she goes about it. In contrast, Comet's free spirit, combined with how bitter he is deep down towards his family, has led him to become independent to the point where he may end up refusing help when he needs it. Both will have to work to overcome that as the story progresses, and I can't wait to show you how.
NightAroma-First, how did you post a review for the same chapter twice. And second, I was never angry at you. And finally, the dance was the hardest part for me to do right. I had to look to plenty of other fanfic writers as inspiration for how it played out, and while I think I could've gone into greater detail, I'm still satisfied with what I pulled off.
SammieQ-1.) Thanks for that. I'm a fan of Family Guy. 2.) This story is basically what the show could have been like if Disney didn't hold it back. In other words, more like the anime it takes influence from. 3.) I do not have that planned out at the moment.
You know what to do: fave and follow this story, and follow me on Twitter (JZ-Gaming), Insta (RJ Writing Ink), and YouTube (Jungoguy)
See you next week, guys! Here's hoping Comet can get his Mom out of the house before she ruins it. Marcia will never let him live that down.
