Chapter 7: Mai's Shocking Betrayal- Part I
Previously on The Queen of Games, things were looking grim for Kaiba as Alister pummeled him with his Gorlag, but thanks to some divine intervention and with a little help from Critias, Kaiba was able to overcome Alister, but not before Alister sprung a trap that caused the duel to end in draw. Now Daisuke, Yugi, and the gang finally made it to Industrial Illusions to find no one there, except for Mai. But when Daisuke saw she was wearing an Orichalcos duel disk, she knew something was wrong. Has Mai really betrayed her friends or is there something much sinister in store for the gang? Let's find out.
"Mai, please tell me you found that thing in the dump?" Joey asked.
"Hardly. I've been given a chance to show you fools what real power is like" Mai answered.
"Mai, please get rid of that duel disk. You don't know what it's capable of" Daisuke pleaded.
"I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm taking charge of my life, and I'm not going to let anyone hold me back" Mai said.
"This isn't you, Mai" Yugi said.
"This is me, and it's time I took got rid of you all for good. With no one to stand in my way, I'll finally have a chance to claim what should be mine" Mai said as she activated her duel disk. "And I'm starting with you, Daisuke" Mai said as she pointed at her opponent.
"Ok. I can see words won't get through to you. So, if dueling you mean snapping you out of whatever's controlling you, then fine" Daisuke said as she step up and activated her duel disk.
"You sure you want to go through with this?" Joey asked.
"I know most of her cards, inside and out. I can take her" Daisuke answered.
"You'll be singing a different tune once I'm done with you" Mai said as she and Daisuke drew their first 5 cards.
"Time to duel" Both girls said.
(Daisuke: 4000)
(Mai: 4000)
"I'll start by summoning Cyber Harpie in attack mode" Mai said as the purple armored harpy appeared with a screech. (Attk: 1800)
"My turn" Daisuke said as she drew Polymerization and in her hand was Giant Germ, Scapegoat, Shadow Chains, V-Girl, and Dark Magician. "I summon Giant Germ in attack mode" Daisuke said as Giant Germ appeared. (Attk: 1000)
"How pathetic. My move" Mai said as she drew a card. "I summon Harpy Lady in attack mode" Mai said as her signature monster appeared. (Attk: 1300) "Attack Giant Germ!" Mai commanded as her monster charged toward Giant Germ and slashed it with it's claws.
(Daisuke: 3700)
"Now for Cyber Harpie, attack her life points!" Mai commanded as her second monster charged at Daisuke and slashed her across the chest with her claws.
(Daisuke: 2900)
"You activated Giant Germ's special ability- it returns, and when it comes back you lose 500 life points" Daisuke said as Giant Germ reappeared. (Attk: 1000)
(Mai: 3500)
"That won't be enough to save you" Mai scoffed.
"Hang in there" Kari said.
"You got this" Yolei cheered as Daisuke drew a card and saw she drew Negate Attack. "I'll place 3 cards facedown and summon V-Girl in defense mode" Daisuke said 3 cards appeared facedown followed by V-Girl kneeling. (Def: 1400)
"Is that all? Then it's my move" Mai said as she drew a card. "I place 2 cards facedown and then I'll summon Amazon Fighter in attack mode" Mai said as 2 cards appeared facedown followed by a muscular woman. (Attk: 1500) "Attack V-Girl!" Mai commanded as her monster jumped towards V-Girl destroyed it with a kick. "Now for Cyber Harpie, take out her Giant Germ!" Mai commanded as her monster flew towards Giant Germ, but the chains shot up from the ground and wrapped around the harpy.
"You activated one of my facedown cards, Shadow Chains. It stops Cyber Harpie from attacking and drains it's power by 700" Daisuke said.
(Cyber Harpie: 1800-1100)
"That still leaves my Harpy Lady. Finish the job and get rid of her Giant Germ once and for all!" Mai commanded as her signature monster went for the kill, only to be blocked by a barrier.
"I activated Negate Attack. Now my monster's safe." Daisuke said.
"Fine. Your move" Mai said as Daisuke drew a card.
"I play Flamedramon in attack mode" Daisuke said as her one of Veemon's evolved forms appeared. (Attk: 1500) "Attack Cyber Harpie with Fire Rocket!" Daisuke commanded as her monster threw a large fireball at Cyber Harpie destroying it, causing Mai to smirk.
(Mai: 3100)
"A brilliant move, if it weren't for the fact you activated my trap card. Card of Last Will" Mai said as her facedown card flipped up and activated. "This lets me draw 5 new cards whenever one of my monster's attack points gets lowered" Mai said as she drew 5 cards.
"That's not good. Now Mai gets a new hand" Matt said.
"No telling what cards she drew" Tristan said.
"Now it's time for me to take this duel to it's new level" Mai said.
"Mai, please tell me you didn't..." Daisuke said with dread.
"I just did. I play the Seal of Orichalcos" Mai said as she put the card into the field slot of her duel disk, causing it to glow and soon the 6 star pentagram appeared, surrounding the 2 duelists.
"Now that's better. And with the Seal on the field, my monsters get 500 point boost" Mai said as the Seal appeared on her forehead and her monsters.
(Amazon Fighter: 1500-2000)
(Harpy Lady: 1300-1800)
"Now it's my move" Mai said as she drew a card. I place 2 cards facedown on the field. And now, Amazon Fighter attack Flamedramon!" Mai commanded as her fighter jumped towards Flamedramon and destroyed it with a kick.
(Daisuke: 2400)
"Now for Harpy Lady, destroy Giant Germ!" Mai commanded as her monster flew toward Giant Germ and destroyed it with her claws.
(Daisuke: 1600)
"Daisuke's down to 1600 points, and Mai still has most of hers" Joey said.
"It's gonna take a miracle for Daisuke to stay in this duel" Joe said as Daisuke drew a card.
"Mai, I want to know why you're doing this. I know you never do anything like this without a reason" Daisuke said.
"If you really want to know, it all happened after Battle City. I started taking part in other Duel Monsters tournaments, but it wasn't enough. Everywhere I go, people would talk about you, Yugi, Kaiba, and even Joey. It was like I didn't exist. Then, the nightmares started. I tried calling for help but no one could hear me. It was like I was being ignored. After I won my last tournament, I felt empty, like I had no purpose. Until someone found me and showed me something that I never thought was possible. They gave me something I never had: real power, but they also gave me a purpose again. And that purpose is to crush you and take what should be mine: your title" Mai explained.
"Mai, I don't know who told you these things, but what I do know is that they're using you for their own selfish needs. They don't care about you. We do" Daisuke said as she gestured to the gang right behind her.
"Then where were you when I needed you the most? You were off having fun while I was left in pain and misery" Mai said.
"Mai, the Seal is affecting your mind, but I'm gonna set you free. No matter what. It's my move and I play Pot of Greed, which lets me draw 2 cards" Daisuke said as she drew 2 cards and she saw she drew Red Eyes Black Dragon and Chosen One. "I place one card facedown and end my turn" Daisuke said as a card appeared facedown.
"Then it's time for me to finish you off" Mai said she drew a card. "I play the Unfriendly Amazon in attack mode" Mai said as the swordswoman appeared. (Attk: 2000-2500) "Attack her life points and end this duel!" Mai commanded as her charged at Daisuke, only for to smirk.
"I activate my facedown card, Scapegoat" Daisuke said as 4 colored sheep appeared in front of her.
"Smart move, but you activated my trap card. Nightmare Tri-Mirror" Mai said as a mirror appeared and Daisuke saw the reflections her Scapegoats appear. "This creates 4 more Harpy Ladies" Mai said as 4 copies of her signature monsters appeared on the field. (Attk: 1300-1800 x4) "Fortunately for you, my Harpies can't attack this turn" Mai said.
"Lucky me" Daisuke said.
"Oh man, now Mai's got 7 monsters on the field" Tristan said.
"Those things could finish off Daisuke off 7 times over" Wills said.
"Daisuke's not of this yet. She'll find a way, she always does" Joey said as Daisuke drew a card.
"I'll start my turn by activating my facedown card, Chosen One. First, I place these 3 cards facedown, and in the middle comes the chooser" Daisuke said as 3 cards appeared in a triangle, followed by a spinner in the middle. "If the chooser lands on one of my magic cards, I have to send all 3 cards to the graveyard. But if it lands on a monster, I can summon it to the field and turn this duel around. And I'm feeling lucky today" Daisuke said.
"You must be desperate to save your soul if you're relying on luck to bail you out" Mai said.
"It's a risk I'm wiling to take. Now, Chosen One start spinning" Daisuke said as the spinner started to spin fast. "Oh, and my spinner will stop when you tell it to stop" Daisuke added causing everyone to hold their breath.
"This better work" Tai said.
"It has to" Joey said.
"Tell me when it's over" Terriermon said as he covered his eyes with his ears.
"Come on, Mai. You only got a 1 in 3 chance, what's it gonna be?" Daisuke taunted.
"You're taking a big gamble, Daisuke" Michael said.
"If it lands on a magic card, it's all over" Phil said.
"Well, we're all ears" Daisuke taunted again causing Mai to snarl in fury.
"Stop!" Mai said as the spinner began to slow down.
"It's slowing down" Gatomon said as everyone watched with baited breath.
"I'm putting all my heart and soul in this card, because if it lands wrong, I'm gonna lose more than this duel. Much, much, more" Daisuke thought with worry as the spinner continued to slow down.
