Georgia on my Mind

"Listen up, we are live streaming this to the public, so I need the adults to keep their eyes off of each other's asses," Harrison instructs.

Both teens respond with looks of disgust. "We are in the room…How much therapy do you want us to need?"

Each member of the First Family takes a spot on the available yoga mats laid out before the camera. The Grant Administration victory lap on the Build American legislation exhausted the group. However, the enormous press coverage served as a boost to re-election efforts. "Remember, polling shows middle America loves these family moments." Abby states.

Gerry rolls his eyes. He wanted a family game of horse, but he was out 'Not my Idea' t-shirt serves as a silent protest. "Let's get started. Bishop's on," Karen demands. She and Olivia wear matching floral scarves to hold their hair back.

Harrison counts the group down. "Hi America…I'm Olivia Pope and you know the big guy in the grey t-shirt behind me as well as the good-looking kids. We are enjoying our time visiting the various states and all the projects creating new jobs. After a week on the road this is how we wind down. Join us for yoga date night. Make sure you are seated comfortably. We are going to start with breathing in and out through the nose…"

Thirty minutes and a namaste later Harrison turns off the camera. "Great job everyone. I have no doubt we won the news cycle which should buy us at least 2-3 days."

"Not to mention everyone thinks we are in New Hampshire instead of Vermont," Abby interjects.

"Yeah Dad, this place is awesome," Gerry states.

"You like it?"

"What is not to like? The press can't reach us…there is plenty of land to explore. We should come back when it snows."

"Do you agree with Karen, Livvie?"

"You already know my thoughts on Vermont," she offers a knowing smile.

Karen looks back and forth between her parents. "What is happening?"

Fitz stands before reaching out to Olivia to help her up from the floor. "Tomorrow is our wedding day."

Collective gasps interrupt his next sentence. Olivia smiles softly, "I know how much the public wants a giant spectacle and we could give it to them and earn a tremendous amount of political capital but that is not who we really are."

"So here we are…having the ceremony we want with the people we love most," he pulls his fiancé under his arm and tucks her into his side.

Abby breaks the silence, "Please tell me you ordered dresses?"

"What about hair and makeup?" Karen interjects.

Harrison eyes squint as he thinks through the logistics. "Please tell me you obtained an NDA for the officiant?"

Fitz holds up his left hand to stop the onslaught of questions. "In true Olivia Pope fashion everything is handled. Why don't you ladies go check out the fashion option in the first room on the left down the main hallway."

Olivia blows him a kiss over her shoulder as Karen and Abby drag her away.

Olivia lowers the eye shadow brush to the vanity. She tilts her head observing the natural eye shadow with an extra dusting of gold. She smiles softly at the soft knock at the door. "Come in."

Karen and Abby enter dressed in matching lavender silk bathrobes. "How is the bride to be?"

"Good. How are my bridesmaids?"

"Nervous…excited."

They work together styling each other hair into soft beach waves before the two bridesmaids slip into their mocha brown silk halter dresses. "Now it is your turn," Abby states.

She and Karen lead Olivia to the dress stand that holds her wedding gown. She steps into the Monique Lhuillier mermaid trumpet wedding dress with the jewel neckline. The sheer sleeves display her toned arms. The lace delicately decorates her collar bone while sheer portions expose her back. Abby carefully fastens the long line of satin buttons.

"Dad may faint. You totally look like a princess…a badass really ethereal princess," Karen compliments.

At the last-minute Olivia decides to gather her hair into an elegant chignon decorated with pearl pins. They each gather their blush cream peony and green hydrangea bouquets before exiting the room.

Fitz, Harrison and Gerry stand in the middle of the orchard surrounded by trees and red and yellow leaves blanketing the ground. He harbors no shame for the wide smile on his face. Gerry fidgets with the bow tie of his Brooks Brothers tuxedo. "Let me help you out young buck," Harrison steps in front.

The instrumental notes of the 'The Light' draws the attention of the men as first Karen and then Abby glide down the aisle. Finally, Olivia appears, and Fitz mouth parts and he feels the air leave his lungs. When he looks back on this day; he knows he will only remember the sparkle of her eyes and the soft smile on her lips as Huck escorts her to him. She turns to hand her bouquet to Abby. Fitz uses his right arm to pull her body as close as possible to him. He cradles her jaw with his left hand and uses his thumb to caress her cheek. She peers up with a look of love and hope in her eyes.

The local county clerk clears her throat, "We are gathered here in the face of God, family and friends to witness the vows of love between this man and woman."

"I, Olivia Carolyn Pope, belong to you. You have replaced my fears with life changing…devasting love. You are the only man I have or will ever love."

"I, Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, am nothing and you, my Livvie, are everything. I belong to you…my every emotion is controlled by the look on your face. You are the love of my life."

"Crap," Abby dabs at her eyes.

"Oh my," Kim squeezes Huck's hand.

"There is a special request from Karen and Gerry," the officiant explains.

Fitz and Olivia's eyes widen in surprise and turn to face them. Gerry reaches for Olivia's left hand and slides a dainty diamond infinity band on her ring finger. "This ring is a symbol of our appreciation for everything you do, particularly the little things, that make us feel valuable and loved. Gerry and I promise to do our best so you can be as proud of us as we are of you."

The freshly bonded family exchanges hugs before turning back to the clerk. "By the powers vested in me by the State of Vermont. I pronounce you Fitzgerald and Olivia Grant."

Fitz gathers Olivia in his arms and kisses with enough force and passion to steal her breath. When they come up for air, she rests her forehead against his. "Thanks for marrying me mister," she whispers.

The bridal party returns to the house completely unnoticed by the new husband and wife. The first instrumental chords of a familiar song burst their love bubble. Olivia places her left hand on his shoulder, and he takes her right hand into his. She steps back and he steps forward. Fitz begins to sing:

The very thought of you…and I forget to do…The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do…I'm living in a kind of daydream…I'm happy as a king…

Olivia smiles before returning his lyrics:

The mere idea of you…the longing here for you…You'll never know how slow the moments go 'til I'm near to you…

They dance and sing the Nat King Cole classic to each other sheltered from the outside world, the demands of their public roles and the bright lights of the media.
