A Capriccio of Winds and Earths

Kekkon 5

Tyrion awoke with a start. Last night was wild, with wine flowing free and raucous singing. The King tried to have what he claimed as a Stormlander tradition for the last night of bachelorship, which basically translated to lots of wines, lots of morally flexible dancers, and lots of whores. Luckily, the combined reasoning of Ser Barristan and Lord Lannister was enough to deter the king.

There was still a copious amount of drinking, however.

Tyrion felt sluggish. On the advice of Lady Shiomaru, he drank about the same amount of boiled water and wine. He was on and off the privy the whole night, but his hangover did not feel as severe as the worst ones he can remember.

Gods, I'm going to get married today, Tyrion thought. Again.

Tyrion was sitting on his bed trying to gather himself when a loud knock sounded from the door. He opened it and Daven greeted him, on the head of an army of seamstresses and servants.

"Ready for your prison, my lord?" Daven jested as he stepped aside, making way for the small army.

"Prisons have uglier gaolers," Tyrion shot back as a servant brought him meats, sauces, and lettuces set between two thin slices of bread.

"Lady Maru bid us all eat, even if it's a bite or two," Daven said as the seamstresses marched in with Tyrion's garb for today.

"Mmh, sumptuous as always," Tyrion said after two bites. "Though I think this is as much as I can eat, Cousin."

"That's o-kei," Daven said.

"What's that?" Tyrion said before a servant urged him to the bath.

"I think that means 'all is in order' in Nihon?" Daven replied. "Picked it up from Suzu."

Daven missed the chuckle his cousin made as he walked into the bathroom.

"Right, you're done," Shioni said as she fastened the cape on Hamakaze's bridal kimono. "We're ready, Kantai Kikan."

"Excellent. Everyone in position?" Yamato said, seemingly to no one in particular.

"It seems everyone is," Shioni said.

"Right, time for us to move," Yamato said. "Escorts in position please."

As one, the two sisters exited the dressing room and started to make their way to Casterly Rock's sept. The entourage of other Kirino ladies joined them, marching with precision normally seen on trained armies.

They reached the sept door right on time for the ceremony, and the door was opened promptly. Between the statues of The Mother and The Father, Tyrion and the officiating septon stood ready. The crowd on the benches was divided into two, with an aisle separating them. To the side nearer to The Father's statue stood the Lannisters and a handful of other prominent westermen, while to the side of The Mother's statue stood a mix of Kirino who was not on ceremonial duties, the king, and other dignitaries.

"Who comes before The Seven that is One?" the septon exclaimed as Hamakaze and Yamato approached within five steps of the two men.

"Hamakaze of the house Kirino comes before The Seven that is One," Yamato said. "Daughter to Lord Senri and Lady Mikasa of the house Kirino, granddaughter of Senkai of the house Kirino, descendant of Prince Mizunagi of Nihon, who was the fifth son of the ninety-and-ninth Heavenly Sovereign of Nihon His Majesty Go-Nariyuki, who was descended from the divine progenitor of Nihon kings, Ninigi-no-Mikoto and her divine wife Konohana-Sakuya-Hime. Unmarried, unsullied, trueborn, and noble."

"Who gives her to be married?" the septon continued.

"Her elder sister Yamato of the house Kirino gives her, in the absence of our deceased father Senri of the house Kirino, our deceased brothers Senji and Tamon, and our other deceased or exiled male relatives," Yamato said.

"Who claims her to be his wife?" the septon said.

"I, Tyrion of the house Lannister claims her," Tyrion replied. "Second son and heir to Lord Tywin and Lady Joanna of the house Lannister, grandson of Tytos of the house Lannister, who descended from Lann the Clever."

"Thusly the parties have made their lineages known to the people, and the blessing of the union shall commence," the septon said before he started reciting wedding prayers.

The droning, almost hypnotic chanting of prayers finally ended after some time, with the septon beckoning the two spouse-to-be closer.

"The groom may now exchange the cloak of the bride, from the cloak of her parents' House to the cloak of the groom's House," the septon said. "To signify that the bride is now under the protection of the groom."

Upon that cue, two people from the sides of the aisle stepped forward. The one from the Lannister side, Lancel, brought in his hands the distinctive red and gold cloak of the House of Lannister. From the Kirino side, Yukikaze stood ready to accept the indigo-and-white cloak of house Kirino.

Hamakaze lowered herself to rest her knee onto a small wooden bench, while Tyrion stepped on a slightly higher stepladder. With gentle hands, Tyrion undid the knot holding the Kirino cloak. He then pulled the cloak off the shoulder of his soon to be wife before handing it to Yukikaze.

"Thank you, Lady Yukikaze. Lancel, the cloak of our house," Tyrion said. Wordlessly, Lancel presented the lavish, heavy cloak of the Lannister colors. Some murmurs rose from the crowd. Apparently this was the cloak used in the wedding of Tywin and Joanna, two decades ago. While the realm knows how much Tywin hated his second son, apparently to allow his own cloak to be used in the wedding means most of the hate had subsided and instead replaced by approval.

"Now the bride has been cloaked in the color of the groom, it is time for them to be united in the knot," the septon said. "If you would hold your lady's hand, my lord?"

The septon then tied a length of silken red-and-gold ribbon on Tyrion and Hamakaze's joined hands. He then patted the knot gently.

"Gaze upon each other's eyes as you recite your sacred vows before The Seven that is One," the septon said.

"Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger... I am hers and she is mine," Tyrion said, his voice barely holding his emotions. "From this day to the end of my days."

"Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger... I am his and he is mine," Hamakaze said, her voice gentle and slightly shaking. "From this day on, to the end of my days."

"Thus let it be known, that Hamakaze of the House Kirino and Tyrion of the House Lannister are now of one heart, one flesh, one soul. Cursed be they who would seek to tear this blessed union asunder," the septon then announced. "In the sight of the Seven, I hereby seal these two souls, binding them as one for eternity."

A short pause, punctuated by soft murmurs, followed as the septon tugged the knotted ribbon loose.

"With this kiss, I pledge my love," Tyrion said before kissing Hamakaze's lips.

"And with this kiss, I pledge mine," Hamakaze said, briefly caressing Tyrion's hair before she planted a kiss on top of his head.

The droplet of water on the edge of Tyrion's left eye was quickly rubbed away.

...

After a quick refreshment, the married couple was ushered to a different venue. The Stone Garden had now been prepared and decorated with shimenawa ropes adorned with shide streamers. The faint rustle of the weirwood leaves created a different atmosphere compared to the quiet, echoing sept.

As the couple and a smaller crowd of guests marched into the garden, Amaha Kirino greeted them clad in white and red.

"Thusly I start the Shinto blessing of marriage before the Yaoyorozu-no-kami, represented by a tree sacred to the peoples of Westeros," Amaha exclaimed, before she started chanting while waving her gohei wand in front of the couple. The chant lasted for some time, before Suzutsuki emerged from behind the crowd and set six shallow cups on the table before Tyrion and Hamakaze.

"The bride and groom shall partake on nine sips of imozake, three from each sakazuki cup, to express gratitude to their ancestors and invite the blessings of the goddess of motherhood Koyasu-sama to their household," Amaha said as Suzutsuki poured the cloudy liquid to the cups. Tyrion seemed to be hesitant at first, but a subtle glance to his side found Hamakaze's encouraging smile.

"Then, the couple shall make an offering of cypress branches to the gods," Amaha declared to the crowd after Tyrion and Hamakaze finished drinking from the cups.

This time, Yukikaze stepped forth and presented the couple with two branches of cypress decorated with shide streamers. Hamakaze and Tyrion took the branches from the tray and put them in a vase just outside the shimenawa border put around the weirwood. Hamakaze mouthed a short prayer, while Tyrion bowed his head deeply.

"Thusly the ritual has been observed, and the marriage has been blessed," Amaha closed the ceremony. "May the Yaoyorozu-no-kami bless the union, now and forevermore."

"Lord Tyrion Lannister and Lady Hamakaze Lannister!" The announcer exclaimed, and the double door leading to the grand reception hall of Casterly Rock opened. A wall of jubilant cheers swept through the two of them as honored guests cheered the newly married couple. The husband and wife then made their way to a pedestal, where Maya Kirino awaited them. A barrel stamped with three dogs also stood there.

"Ladies, sers, and lords! Princes, queen, and king!" Maya announced. "We are gathered here to commemorate the wedding between my cousin, Hamakaze, and her good friend Tyrion Lannister! Who's in for drinking and revelry!"

The crowd replied with a jubilant cheer.

"Right, right!" Maya said before gesturing for silence. The cheer abated somewhat. "But there is one more Nihon ritual to observe, and that is the Kagami-biraki! Basically, the happy couple breaks open a cask of liquor for the guests to partake! Who wants booze!"

The crowd replied with a mix of a resounding 'aye' and raucous laughter.

"Well then, we shall start the ritual in a bit," Maya exclaimed after the cheer abated. "Naturally the first recipients of this new beverage courtesy of the joint venture between Houses Clegane and Kirino shall be none other than our king, our one, our only, Robert Baratheon! Three cheers!"

The crowd replied with the cheers.

"Of course, after the king we must also pay homage to the Great Lion, the Golden Handed, Lord Tywin of the house Lannister!" Maya exclaimed. "Because without Lord Tywin's generosity this feast would never had happened! Three cheers!"

Again the crowd replied.

"Well then, let's get this started. Where was that warhammer again…" Maya said as she tarried for a few moments, before she brandished a decorated wooden mallet. "Well, no king's warhammer in sight today, so we have to use one of these. Right, Hama you hold here, Tyrion you hold here… don't freeze up you two! Ready, set, and… swing!"

The thin wooden cover of the cask split evenly in the middle as the couple hit it with the wooden mallet. A small portion was quickly doled to two peculiarly shaped small bowls, to be delivered to Robert and Tywin at the seat of honor. Robert, without hesitation, took a swig from his bowl.

"Fhhaaa!" Robert snorted. "A strong drink! A good drink!"

"A drink to stoke a lion!" Tywin exclaimed, having sipped some. "My compliments to the brewers!"

"You heard the king, fellas!" Maya said after Tywin's proclamation. "It's time to feast!"

A/N: Yup. It's official now. However, I'm still a bit behind on material so expect a skipped update later this month. Enjoy!
