Chapter 33: Blake

1 MONTH EARLIER

"Mastery Form?" Blake asked. "What's that? Do I have one?"

Integra smiled at her pupils eagerness to learn. "It is the highest form a diviner can achieve without destroying themself. It is the culmination of everything a diviner knows and understands about the arcana with all of their power condensed into a certain amount of time. And no, you do not have one."

"Can you teach it to me?"

"I cannot, unfortunately. Mastery Form is something you can only achieve once you have become a Master of Arcana. Until then, you're limited to very few options. The one I want you to focus on is your Diviner Form."

Blake looked at his master with a confused expression.

"Diviner form?" He asked. "What's that?"

"Think of it as the stepping stone to Mastery Form. If Mastery Form is the culmination of knowledge and power, then the Diviner Form is solely the compression of one's power in a set time frame. You achieved something similar to it in your battle with the Observer. Your power was heightened beyond its normal limitations and allowed you to achieve a sort of Pho-Diviner Form."

"Gotchya, but why can't you teach me Mastery Form?" Blake asked, looking puzzled. "Why do I have to be a Master of Arcana?"

Integra smiled. Always with the questions.

"Though you may have learned much about your powers over the past few months, you do not fully understand them. On top of that you do not have enough diviner power to access something of the caliber. But I do believe that, with time, you have the potential for it. As of right now though, you do not have the proper power or insight to use it. That is why I want you to learn the proper technique to access your Diviner Form."

"Could you show me your Mastery Form?"

Integra smiled and gave him a wink. "I think I'll save that for a later occasion."

PRESENT

Golden energy erupted forth from the diviness with rapid intensity. Yellow lightning exuded from her form and crumbled the earth around her sending shards flying. Her normally silver hair and icy blue eyes instantly began to glow her mana, and she instantly began to exude a golden radiance. A staff of light formed in her hand with the symbol of infinity inlaid at the top and she became cloaked in a white and gold dress comprised completely out of mana. This was his master's trump card. The Divine Priestess.

Integra's eyes rose to meet Vollu's. She held no compassion for the man, and what he was doing. He had hurt her student, killed their master, and was trying to kill an innocent girl. No. He didn't deserve her mercy. He deserved her judgment.

"Time to die, Vollu." she said coldly.

Vollu threw up a pentacle right as Integra smashed through it with a golden beam of light that exuded from her staff. The impact was enough to send him flying through the air, and the diviner was forced to throw up two more pentacles as the diviness appeared above him.

Integra brought down two more beams, and shattered through both of them and sent Vollu crashing to the ground, shattering the earth beneath. More beans rained down from her and flew towards him with lightning fast speed.

"Special Composition: Strong Pentafather!" Vollu called as a gigantic red pentacle covered him long enough to pull another card.

"Let the speed of the gods surround me! Mastered Arcan-"

The butt of Integra's staff slammed into the side of his face and sent him flying again.

"-a: The Chariot," Vollu finished groaning as he went.

When Integra appeared behind him, he was able to react and spiraled out of the way.

"Let the strength of the gods entice me," he chanted. "Mastered Arcana: Strength!"

Vollu exploded towards Integra, but she simply waited. The impact boomed through the air and sent a shockwave that kicked up dust.

When the dust cleared, Vollu's eyes went wide. His fist hadn't moved Integra's face even an inch to the side. Her eyes moved to look at him, and then her staff swung up into his stomach, cracking ribs and forcing blood out of his mouth. As he floated in that spot from her staff strike, she spun and brought a roundhouse to his side and sent him skidding across the ground.

"Damn you," Vollu spat as he slid to a stop and struggled to stand. "Damn you, damn you, damn you, damn you, DAMN YOUUU!!! That does it you witch!"

Red and black mana began to collect around Vollu until it erupted from within. The red light was almost too brilliant to see through, and when it faded, what stood before them all, made Blake's gut drop.

There stood Vollu, in full red and black samurai styled mana armor. His face was covered by a fanged mask and the only thing that shone through were his eyes, both arching with black and red mana. Two swords hung at his side, one shorter than the other and mana began to swirl around him in a torrent.

"Tarot Art Infinium: Divine Samurai."

Vollu drew his swords and blitzed towards Integra in a blur of red and she met him in kind.

The two spiraled into the sky in their clash for dominance. Vollu slashed through beam after beam of golden mana and attempted to slash Integra when he got close enough. Integra parried most of the strike with her staff, only letting the occasional strike get through her guard, and would return blows paired with blasts of magic.

Down on the ground, Blake stared up at the two Masters of Arcana in awe as they clashed. They were incredible. He couldn't imagine ever becoming that strong. All he could do was clench his fists and wish he had the power to aid his master.

The two continued to battle as time went on, neither giving an inch, yet Blake could tell who had the advantage.

Integra flashed backwards and shot a beam of magic at Vollu, but as he moved to block the beam coming from the front, he realized too late that three other beams were coming from other directions. In that moment, there seemed to be four Integras.

Vollu blocked the first beam, slashed through the one coming from behind and dodged the third one, only to be slammed into by the final beam.

Stunned, he looked around to find Integra but was struck from above by a fifth beam sending him crashing to the ground.

Vollu groaned as he slowly rose from the crater that had been created from his impact. His armor was cracked and his blades were chipped.

Integra slowly floated down and landed several feet away from him. Her mana robes were tattered and several cuts covered her body, but she was definitely in better shape than Vollu was.

The diviness held out her palm and all the electricity that was arching off of her began to collect in her palm, creating a large ball of golden lightning.

"It is time that I finish this," she glared.

The glow in her eyes and hair began to fade, and yet she charged the ball further.

Finally, it seemed as if her form had returned to normal, and all that was left was an enormous ball of golden energy.

Vollu looked at the attack in horror. All of Integra's mana in that moment was in that one attack. It was truly terrifying.

Blake looked on in awe as the power began to condense and condense until it was no bigger than a soft ball. It may have been small, but the young diviner could tell that there was enough power there to rip the fabric of reality.

Vollu remastered himself and smirked. This was his opening.

The man flashed forward and drew a sword, but he wasn't going for Integra.

He went for Blake.

The older diviner was too fast. Blake couldn't move in time. He wasn't fast enough to dodge or block, and even if he could block, he wasn't strong enough to withstand the attack.

He was going to die.

Suddenly, Integra materialized in front of Blake and took the blade herself. Blake could only scream as he watched his Master get pierced through the heart.

Her hand fell.

"You lose, Integra." Vollu hissed. "Now die knowing that you couldn't save your pupil or that girl."

Integra began to cough blood, but smiled. "Oh Vollu, how you forget our ways." She struggled. "This was not just an attack. Now, it can be the final step to the training of Blake Ryan."

Vollu's eyes went wide. "No.. you bitch."

"Master!" Blake cried out.

"Do not worry, Ryan." His master called back to him weakly. "This was to happen regardless. The final part of mastery is to be gifted the power of a Master of Arcana. Specifically the power of the one who trained you."

"What are you talk-" Blake began, but Integra held out her hand with the ball of energy towards him.

"It has been my pleasure to teach you." She smiled. A tear rolled down her cheek. "The time we spent together was some of the happiest in my life."

"Master! Integra! Don't do this!" Blake cried out.

"You reminded me what it was like to have a son," She whispered.

"Stop!" Blake cried. "I won't take it!"

"But you must." Integra smiled sadly. "For that is your destiny... Master Ryan."

"Nooo!" Blake cried. But it was too late. The power in her hand exploded forward and hit him in his chest.

Memories of his time with Integra flashed through his mind. The hours of torturous training. The laughs and jabs. The times she'd come check on him in the World Room. And even memories from before him entered. He saw her life. A family destroyed. A child and a husband dead in her arms. And an opportunity to be be something greater.

And finally, everything dimmed out.

"Thank you, Blake Ryan," a voice whispered in his head. "For everything. Now live for me."

"INTEGRA!!!!!"
