A slightly longer one for you here. I own nothing from Gilmore Girls.

Chapter 34

"We paid hundreds and thousands of dollars; we didn't imagine it would be turned into your sex pad!" Her Grandpa was yelling again and Rory wanted to fall through the floor. The whole night had been yelling and discussion and past indiscretions and harsh words.

"Dad! They are adults we can't dictate what they do or where they sleep!" Her mom shouted back, sticking up for her as she had been doing all night. For her and Finn.

"Richard, Emily. I'm not happy with the situation either. But they have proven to be responsible. They both make good grades and we really can't tell them what to do. Even if we would want to." Luke added.

"No matter what you may think, we are not naive to the current world. We know that things are not as they were when we were brought up. Morals have changed, ideals have changed and attitudes have changed. We knew Finnegan's reputation for being a... man of the world shall we say. That is one thing. But to have the two of you living together before you are married is not something we can support. Even your mother, Rory, doesn't live with Luke yet. In fact, your mother has never lived with a man and has put it off for until she's married. The done thing." Her Grandpa said gravely, ignoring what Luke had said as he had been doing all evening.

"But you didn't want me to turn out like mom." Rory said.

"Hey!" Lorelai frowned.

"I didn't say I didn't want to turn out like you, but that they didn't." Rory shrugged.

"Your mother is an accomplished woman now and she's worked very hard to get there. I don't want you in the same situation she found herself in all those years ago and I'm sure she doesn't either!" Grandpa disagreed.

"Well, if only she'd gotten married and followed the plan." Grandma said distastefully.

"Finn and me do live together we do share a room. It's done. So, what are you saying? Are you asking us to go back to separate rooms, for one of us to move out, for us to break up? Because I don't want to do any of those things." Rory protested. Finn had stayed mostly silent through the conversation but was drinking a fair bit of wine. She couldn't blame him.

"Yes. That is what we're saying, we will not support this." Grandma said. "What does your father have to say about this Finnegan?"

"He truly couldn't care less. As long as I'm happy, not hurting anyone and getting good grades he really doesn't care what I do." Finn shrugged not making eye contact with anyone. Rory worried this was too much for him.

"Yes, well look at where that attitude has got. His daughter-" Emily started saying.

"And we're done. Come on Finn. Good night." Rory stood from the table anger filling her.

"We're certainly not done young lady! Sit back down." Emily said.

"Yes, we are. I won't listen to you say anything about Mia." Rory said firmly walking towards the door. She heard the squeak of a chair and knew Finn would be following.

"Drink?" Finn asked passing her the keys to the Escalade, he'd driven but had drank too much to drive back.

"Drink's plural. I need more than one." Rory said opening the huge car.

"I'm sorry." Rory said as they were a few miles away from the Gilmore household.

"You can't control how other people think love, even your own family. If they pull out of the building we'll buy their shares. If they stop paying for your Yale, I'll pay it." Finn started saying.

"I can pay for my own education." Rory said

"Alright then. So, they disapprove. They'll come around." Finn said taking her hand.

Mia left the nursery where she'd been folding tiny little boys baby clothes as she heard what had been the tail end of the argument. Or what she assumed had been the tail end of the argument anyway. The same one they'd been having for the past week.

Mia walked to the fridge pulled out a pint of ice cream, grabbed two spoons and waddled to Rory and Finn's room. She was due next month and walking ached and hurt, sitting she got cramps in her back, lying down she had to lie on her side. She was fed up and huge and she couldn't see her feet. And now she had to referee between her brother and her best friend. Exactly the position she had never wanted to be in, especially while very pregnant and hormonal.

"You know you could just tell him, or any of us actually." Mia said handing Rory the ice cream, a spoon and sitting herself down carefully on the bed.

"He doesn't trust me." Rory fumed her eyes full of unshed tears.

"He just wants to know why you've ruined your career before it's started is all. That's fair enough." Mia said.

"And I said it was for a good reason, that should be enough." Rory said angrily.

"You're being an idiot. A stubborn idiot." Mia pointed out digging her spoon into the ice cream and taking a bite.

"Yes thanks. Finn just pointed that out to me." Rory glared.

"You're making me say something I despise. Finn is right." Mia said.

"I can't tell him the truth." Rory said grudgingly.

"Can you tell me what happened? If I know I might be able to talk to him." Mia asked gently. She was fed up of listening to their arguing and Rory's crying. All anyone knew was that Rory had said something to Mitchum Huntzberger and was now blacklisted from working in any of his newspapers which meant no other paper in the country would touch her with a ten-foot poll.

"You won't be able to say anything to him either." Rory sighed.

"Try me." Mia prodded.

"Fine. But don't say I didn't tell you." Rory said stabbing her spoon into the ice cream violently. "Mitchum came to the news room looking for Logan."

"That I knew." Mia said.

"I told him that Logan was in Las Vegas with Colin and Finn." Rory carried on. "And he kept going on about his son wasting his talent with those losers."

"Oh no." Mia said sadly.

"Oh yes. I was just so mad!" Rory said.

"You didn't?" Mia asked surprised, Rory usually avoided confrontation whenever she could.

"I did, I went after him and told him that Finn had made his dad a business deal that was making a million dollars a year. That Colin was living without any aid from his dad, on investments he had made and that actually maybe Logan was the loser of the group." Rory said getting up and pacing. "Then Mitchum started in on the baby and how..."

"How?" Mia asked feeling pretty angry herself.

"Are you sure you want me to tell you this? It... I said things... I shouldn't have said but he...!" Rory had stopped pacing and was facing Mia biting her lip.

"Just get it out. I'm going to be imagining all sorts of things if you don't." Mia said honestly. It wasn't like they hadn't faced prejudice and scandal already, and probably would do for a few more years yet. She could handle it.

"He said how you had managed to trap Colin and that you'd tried to do the same to Logan years ago, but no baby had ever turned up." Rory said softly, at odds to the ugly words she was spewing. "I... I said how maybe he should keep a better eye on his son so that he didn't get girls so drunk that they didn't remember sleeping with them as it was rape and he better hope Logan had outgrown that. And that you weren't the bad guy in that situation, it was his son and if I had any knowledge of it back then Logan would have been behind bars."

"You didn't?" Mia said feeling faint.

"I really sorry Mia." Rory said sadly.

"So that's why he blacklisted you? Because you could tell people the truth about his son and I made you promise not to tell Finn, so you guys are arguing." Mia said her words coming out though she didn't think her brain was working.

"The truth!?" Colin was stood at the door. Neither of had realised he was there or that the door wasn't shut. His entire body was tense, his eyes were flashing and Mia froze. What was she supposed to do now? What was supposed to happen now?

"Colin... I." Rory stuttered out looking devastated.

"Mia?" Colin asked.

"I... Colin." Mia didn't know what to say.

"He... you... When did it happen? Did you, were you... you haven't got another baby." Colin said stiffly.

"I'll give you guys some space." Rory said leaving her room. "I'm sorry." She mouthed to Mia as she passed her.

Mia couldn't blame Rory; she couldn't blame anyone but herself. She hadn't wanted anyone to know. But if she had told someone this wouldn't be biting her on the arse right now.

Colin came into the room and shut the door behind him. He sat in the chair which held half of Finn's clothes.

"It happened when I was seventeen. I went on a date with Logan. He asked and I was so flattered." Mia said quietly, addressing the sheets on the bed rather than her boyfriend, the father of her child. "I was so excited. I brought a new dress and everything. We went to a restaurant. It was nice. He took me to a club afterwards. I'd never drank before then. I can't remember anything else after that. A month later I was late and feeling ill. I went to the doctor who told me I was pregnant. That was the only reason I knew we'd... I was a virgin. I couldn't keep it. I told him. He didn't care, said I was clingy, trying to trap him. I have a lot of regrets."

Colin said nothing he just stood and left the room. Left Mia to cry alone.

Finn sat in Logan's apartment which he shared with Lanny feeling angry. He didn't know why Rory just couldn't give a straight answer. She had her life planned out and was throwing it all away and couldn't tell him why. She was stubborn which was normally a trait he liked but not right now. Now he was just angry and frustrated.

"We can go out man. Get a few drinks in us, loosen you up a bit." Logan suggested passing Finn a beer.

"Yeah, the pub sounds pretty good right now." Finn nodded sipping his beer.

"I'm sorry, you know what my dad's like. I can try and talk to him for all the good it'd do." Logan said.

"Nah mate, it's fine. Its Rory's deal." Finn shrugged. He'd help her if she just told him the whole fucking story.

"You think you'll work things out?" Logan asked.

"I'm not ending things if that's what you're asking." Finn said firmly. He was angry as anything, he was annoyed, frustrated. But he wasn't willing to call it quits after a week of fighting. Not when they'd been together so long without any major arguments. This was a blip, a big blip, but that was it. He hoped that was it anyway.

A pounding started at Logan's door and Finn frowned. Someone was eager. He hoped it wasn't one of Logan's many girls. Maybe he'd finally got a bunny boiler.

"What the hell?" Logan asked putting down his beer and going to the door.

Logan answered the door and was instantly knocked to the floor. Colin was on top of him, Colin's hands fisted in Logan's shirt.

"Colin? What are you doing?" Finn asked calmly, getting up from the sofa and pulling his best friend off his other best friend who had a bloody nose.

"Ask him. He knows." Colin fumed.

"What the hell man?!" Logan shouted.

"Mia! That's what the hell! Mia!" Colin roared.

"Mia?" Finn asked confused, Logan was rarely if ever around Mia.

"Man, that was years ago, four years ago." Logan said getting up and touching his nose gingerly.

"What exactly happened four years ago mate?" Finn asked his heart beating harder.

"He raped your sister four years ago. That's what happened!" Colin yelled and Finn's stomach dropped, that couldn't... No... No way... Logan wouldn't do that.

"The hell I did! I have never done anything like that! I don't need to!" Logan said taking a step back.

"She was so drunk she can't remember, she didn't know she had sex until she found out she was pregnant. Doesn't sound like she could consent!" Colin shouted.

"I don't understand mate." Finn said frowning, he wasn't hearing this. His best mate wouldn't do that. He wouldn't.

"We were both drunk, we were both young! I didn't do anything wrong!" Logan shouted right back at Colin.

"It's true then?" Finn asked quietly, everything was blurring, a cold feeling flooding his blood turning it to ice as everything he thought he knew burnt.

"Look, Finn, we were young I took her out and stuff happened. It was only once and I didn't realise she was serious about being knocked up." Logan said and Finn felt something snap.

Finn didn't have any conscious thought. Not until he was being pulled away by both Lanny and Colin.

"That's enough." Colin said in his ear holding him back as he fought to get back at Logan.

"You're finished! You're done! My family will-" Logan started shouting, spitting out blood as he did.

"If you think I'm scared of your family think again. You might have money, but so do we. In fact newspapers happen to be on the decline, so much so that your dad came to mine looking for a bail out. Your family mate, does not scare me. You do not scare me. Come after my sister again and I will kill you with my bare hands and these guys won't be able to stop it." Finn said coldly and matter of factly.

"I'm calling the police." Logan said.

"Do it. I'd love to explain why I did what I did." Finn said walking from the room.

"I thought you were going to kill him." Colin said.

"I would have done if you and Lanny hadn't pulled me off." Finn said kicking a trash can they passed.

"I didn't know you were there." Colin said looking as angry as Finn felt.

"How did you find out? About Mia? Did she tell you?" Finn asked his hands clenching into fists at the thought of what his baby sister had gone through without telling him. Without any help.

"No, she was talking to Rory. I overheard. That whole Mitchum thing? Rory told him that Logan was a lay about, we were making things of ourselves. She told him what happened between Logan and Mia. She was sticking up for us. Sticking her neck out for us. She made a promise to Mia not to tell you about it." Colin said stiffly. "I wish we had some of those foam swords left, I'm feeling rather violent."

"Why didn't she just say?" Finn asked, not sure if he was talking about Mia or Rory. He was so angry, with both of them. All of this shit could have been prevented if one of them had just told him the bloody truth. Well, the Mitchum thing would have probably still happened but at least now he knew why, he understood. He still couldn't help much; she had effectively tanked her career before it started but at least he understood and could help her figure out what she wanted to do next. Bloggers were big now, maybe she could do something like that?

"You know what she's like. She probably didn't want to cause a rift between you and the asshole." Colin said between gritted teeth.

"I... I can't right now." Finn said, he was so angry he was shaking. And he was deeply hurt that Mia hadn't come to him about this. She'd always relied on him, always come to him, about everything. Or that's what he had thought anyway. "Is she okay, Mia?"

"I don't know. She told me and I just... Next thing I know I'm at Logan's and he's hitting the floor." Colin admitted.

"So, you left Mia on her own after she'd just confessed something deeply personal that hurt her. You're an idiot Blossom." Finn frowned at his best friend.

"Rory's there." Colin added looking slightly shamefaced.

"You're still a fucking idiot. Weren't you the one telling me that Rory had cried when I left after our first argument? And Rory isn't eight months pregnant." Finn said.

"Yeah, I am." Colin sighed. "How do I deal with this. How do we deal with this?"

"I don't know mate." Finn said as at a loss. "But we've got about ten minutes to figure it out before we get home."

"What are you going to say to mother?" Colin asked putting his hands in his pockets.

"I don't know. I'm still pissed off at her. But if you'd have said something to me and not asked me to tell Mia? I probably wouldn't do, unless you told me you slept around or some shit." Finn replied.

"This is all kinds of fucked up." Colin sighed.

Mia was curled up on Rory's bed sleeping, she'd cried herself out. Rory gently covered her with a blanket.

"So, what are you going to do?" Paris asked from the chair which she'd sat in after dumping Finn's stuff onto the floor.

"I'm going to write to every single newspaper in this country not owned by the Huntzberger's asking for a summer internship. If I don't get any takers, I'll know they were right and I'll have a summer to think of what else I can do with an English major without wanting to pull my hair out doing it." Rory said firmly. She'd given it a lot of thought. There was plenty she could do. But she wasn't ready to give up on her dream yet, not because some over entitled egomaniac with a god complex said so.

"You could always apply to grad school." Paris said.

"I don't want to go to grad school. I want to start, I'm finished with school next year, I want to start life." Rory said, she'd thought of carrying on her schooling and changing to a business major as there was more she could do with it, but that wasn't where her heart lay.

A gentle knock came from Rory's bedroom door. Paris got up to answer it as Rory lay next to her best friend on the bed.

"Can I speak to Mia?" She heard Colin ask.

"No. She's asleep finally, you can't. You and that overgrown child you call a best friend can go lick your wounds in the guest rooms tonight." Paris said before shutting the door.

"Are we having a slumber party?" Rory asked with a smile.

"Fine, but I'm not giving you a pedicure." Paris rolled her eyes.

"Braid my hair?" Rory giggled.

"I can go get Tweedledum and Tweedledee back if you want, they'd be into the female bonding crap." Paris snorted.

"I'm good thanks." Rory smirked.

Rory woke up at four in the morning, she knew that because the big red lights on the clock next to her were blinking it at her. She just didn't know why; Pepper was snoring so it wasn't because of him. Paris had left a few hours ago, she after all wasn't arguing with her boyfriend. At the moment anyway.

"Urgh." Mia groaned softly, obviously trying to be quiet.

"Mi?" Rory asked rolling over to face her friend.

"Sorry, didn't mean to wake you." Mia said.

"Are you okay?" Rory asked.

"Yeah, I just ache. My back aches and Beckham here is kicking like a pro." Mia said.

Rory turned on the bedside light.

"You want me to rub your back?" Rory asked.

"Yes. Please." Mia said with a groan.

"How long had this been hurting?" Rory asked rubbing Mia's back firmly.

"It started at about midnight, the strong kicks, then I drifted off and he started again and so on." Mia said.

"Erm... how many minutes is it between him kicking you hard?" Rory asked.

"About five minutes. Every bloody five minutes and I just want to sleep." Mia sobbed.

"Mi... you don't think you could be in labour, do you?" Rory asked.

"What? No, he's just kicking, really, really hard... every five minutes... for hours... oh crap!" Mia gasped. "I can't be... it's too early, he's too little, he's got to cook for another three weeks."

"Thirty-seven weeks is considered term and you're thirty-eight, you'll be fine. He'll be fine but maybe we should get you to the hospital. Because I am not delivering a baby." Rory said standing up, she'd luckily fallen asleep in her clothes as had Mia.

"How do you know, about when a baby's ready?" Mia frowned sitting up painfully.

"I read all those books you did." Rory shrugged. She'd skipped some of the graphic parts but she'd read the majority of them, if she was going to help Mia then she needed to know about babies.

"Rory, can you get Colin?" Mia asked quietly.

"Yeah, of course, I'll get your hospital bag too, do you need help standing?" Rory asked urgently, she was not freaking out. Much.

"Erm. Yeah. I think my water just broke." Mia said hesitantly.

"Oh. Oh. Oh god. Okay... erm... I'll get Colin and your bag and you just wait... right there... don't move. And cross your legs we don't want him coming out here." Rory said officially slightly freaking out.

"COLIN!" Rory bellowed coming out of her room at a run and heading for the nursery where the hospital bag was. Pepper running at her heels his tail wagging happily he was obviously liking this new game.

Colin's head popped up from the sofa where he was apparently sleeping that night.

"Rory?" Colin asked sleepily.

"Get up! The baby's coming! Where's Finn?" Rory shouted while half dragging the hospital bag it was heavy.

"The baby's coming! What now!? No, it's too early! Where's Mia?" Colin asked jumping up from the sofa.

"My room. And yes now! Where is Finn!?" She yelled.

"He's in the guest room next to yours." Colin said already running to her room.

"Finn!" She yelled banging on the door before flinging it wide open. Finn was laying starfished across the bed on his front in just his boxers. She took the briefest moment to admired his toned back before yelling his name again. "Finn!"

"What! What's wrong!" Finn jumped up off the bed, half falling off it.

"The baby's coming!" Rory said before heading back to her room. "How we doing? Nothings coming round the mountain yet right?"

"I don't think I'm going to enjoy this. It hurts." Mia grunted from her bed.

"I know Mi, come on let's get you to the hospital they have drugs there." Rory said.

"Okay. Can you ring my dad?" Mia said clinging to both Colin and Rory to stand up. "Oh god I don't like standing it feels bad, like somethings trying to get out."

Rory tried really hard not to freak out. She hadn't skipped that bit. The baby's head was engaged. The baby would be making an arrival soon. It took ten minutes to get to the hospital from the apartment, they'd driven it before to check. Or Mia and Rory had anyway. Three minutes to leave the apartment and get to the garage. The baby could wait a total of thirteen minutes. It had to. Rory would not be seeing the miracle of birth, she thought she'd pass out as it was.

"Okay, let's get you down to the car Little Red." Colin said gently.

Mia walked with Colin as Rory lugged the hospital bag and pulled out her phone to call Phineas.

"Rory? Is everything okay?" Phineas asked down the phone, not sounding in the least bit tired and that's when she realised, he was still in Asia until next week.

"Hi Phineas. Mia is having the baby; we're getting her to the hospital now." Rory said breathlessly.

"Janice! Jan! Call the jet and get it ready! Thank you, Rory, we'll be there as soon as we can." Phineas said.

Mia groaned ahead of her, Colin opening the door for them both.

"Okay, I'll keep you updated." Rory said.

"It's appreciated." Phineas said.

Rory started as the weight of the bag she was trying desperately to hold was taken off her. Finn was beside her holding the bag as though it weighed nothing. He didn't look at her, just watched his sister with worried eyes.

"No problem, see you soon, bye." Rory said to the phone hanging up. "That was your dad, him and Janice will be here as soon as they can." Rory said to Finn.

Finn said nothing just walked faster to catch up with Colin and Mia.

"Should I ring Josh?" Rory asked.

"I want dad." Mia groaned as they waited for the lift to come.

"He's going to be here as soon as he can. Did you want anyone else?" Rory asked softly as Mia started panting.

"Yes, call Josh, and your mom." Mia said before letting out a long low moan. "I don't like this."

"You're doing great Little Red, really great." Colin said loading her into the lift as soon as the doors opened.

Rory pulled out her phone again stepping into the lift with them.

"Rory?" Josh asked his voice full of sleep. "What's wrong?"

"Mia's having the baby, Phineas and Janice are still in Asia. She wants you there. And my mom." Rory said urgently as Mia bent at the waist and leant her arms against the wall. Colin rubbed her back as the lift descended, it seemed to be going slower today than normal.

"Erm, yeah, I'll see if I can get someone to come round for Sophia and I'll be there." Josh said.

"Ask Miss Patty or Babette. They love Sophia and they won't mind be woken as long as you tell them why, they'll be happy they were first to know." Rory said. Give them gossip and they'd stay up for a week straight.

"Okay, I'll see you soon. Tell Mia I'll be there soon." Josh said before hanging up.

"Josh is going to be here soon." Rory told her friend. "I'll call mom now if you want."

"Yes! Call her! She's done this before; she can tell me if it's supposed to hurt this fucking much!" Mia yelled. The lift doors opened and they shuffled her out to the garage.

"Mom?" Rory said into the phone as it stopped ringing, she couldn't tell if anyone was there.

"I hate you." Her mom muttered.

"Mia's having the baby and she wants you here." Rory said without preamble, she decided to brush her mother's harsh words away. She'd said worse being tired before after all.

"I'm on my way kid. Duckie pyjamas and all." Her mom said coherent.

"She wants to know if it's supposed to hurt this much?" Rory asked.

"Lie. Tell her it'll be better when she gets the drugs. Lie." Her mom said sounding serious.

"Mom says it'll be better when you get drugs at the hospital." Rory told Mia who was stood outside of the car bent double again, the door was open but she was moaning too much to get in.

"Good... to... know..." Mia panted before standing back up gingerly and with Colin's help got into his car.

"Alright hon, I'll meet you guys at the hospital. Want me to swing by and pick up Josh?" Her mom said.

"Yes, please." Rory said.

"On it. Keep us updated." With that her mom hung up and Rory was getting into the back seat behind Mia and holding her hand tightly. Finn got in next to her but still didn't utter a word. She'd talk to him after they looked after Mia and the baby.

Mia groaned again as Colin started the car, her hand squeezing Rory's really hard, Rory didn't think it would be wise to complain.

"How you doing Mi?" Rory asked stroking her friend's forehead from behind. It was really sweaty. Rory decided that maybe kids wasn't in her life plan after all.

"It hurts. It really, really hurts." Mia cried.

"We'll be there in twelve minutes with the drugs. Lots of drugs." Rory soothed.

Mia screamed, a full loud, ear bursting scream her hand clamping down on Rory's.

"Mia!?" Finn asked urgently.

"I need to push." Mia gasped.

"No!" Colin, Finn and Rory shouted together.

"I need to!!" Mia yelled.

"Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap." Rory chanted trying to think. "Colin pull over, Finn call 911 and put it on speaker. Now!"

"What, no!" Colin shouted.

"Mia needs to push! You are going to look if that baby comes out now and we are all going to die in a car wreck. Pull the hell over!" Rory shouted over Mia's newest contraction. "Mia hon you're doing great."

"I don't want a baby at the side of the road!" Mia yelled and Rory was glad to see the boys were listening to her.

"Okay Mia, listen. I'm going to come round there and were going to take off your pants, okay? And we'll see if we can make it to the hospital!" Rory said her hand shaking and everything wobbling slightly. "Or Colin can have a look. That might be better."

"No, not Colin! You! Colin stays at the head end, he was supposed to be by my head holding my hand, in a hospital bed." Mia said crying.

"I'm still here Little Red, it's okay." Colin said looking panicked but talking soothingly and softly, he took hold of Mia's hand and Rory got out of the car and walked round to the passenger side.

"Okay, I'm glad I took you on that date before I took off your pants." Rory joked kneeling in the footwell and helping pull off Mia's thankfully stretchy maternity pants.

"Normally it takes two to get my clothes off Gilmore." Mia said.

"I'll take you on another one in a couple of weeks, how's that?" Rory said helping Mia take off her underwear next which were stained with all kinds of things Rory didn't want to think about. She started shaking further.

"Finn?" Rory asked as calmly as she could.

"What?" Finn asked sitting forward his phone to his ear.

"I can see a head." Rory said quietly.

"A head!? No, no. Not here." Mia said crying.

"Hey, it's alright, we're here, an ambulance will be here soon and you're fine, he's fine. It's okay." Colin said softly as Finn spoke into his phone.

"Mia, darling. When your next contraction hits you're going to carry on pushing and Rory, you're going to support his head. Mia, put your feet up on the dash board, up over Rory's head. Yup just like that darling well done. The ambulance is nine minutes out, okay?" Finn said softly.

"Support his head?" Rory asked trying to keep the utter terror she felt out of her voice, she didn't succeed mostly.

"Put your hand under his head, gently as he comes out." Finn said.

"Yeah okay. Mia, you know you owe me one for this right, you promised I wouldn't have to be in the delivery room." Rory forced herself to chuckle.

"Colin owes you; this is all his fault!" Mia panted before groaning, and Rory saw the head come out a little more. God it was disgusting. Seriously disgusting.

"That's it Mia, he's coming." Rory said her hand ready.

"I can't do this. I can't." Mia sobbed after the contraction passed.

"You can, you're doing it. And soon your baby boy is going to be here and you can hold him. You can do this." Rory said.

"I don't want him to come out. He can stay in there." Mia moaned before pushing again.

The head was almost out and she saw a cute smashed up face and...

"Mia stop, stop pushing!" Rory shouted.

"I can't!" Mia yelled back.

"You need to, the baby has the cord around its neck. Finn ask what we do?" Rory asked tears streaming down her face. She hadn't realised she'd started crying. She was relieved to see that Mia had stopped pushing.

"Rory, you need to very gently but firmly take the cord and unwrap it." Finn said. "And as soon as he's out you need to wrap the baby in this." He handed her a blue fluffy blanket. "You'll need to warm him up straight away. Rub him like you would do a dog to get them dry okay?"

"Alright. Mia we can do this!" Rory said taking hold of the cord. It was slimy and pulsing and Rory could go another lifetime without feeling that again. She took a hold of it and unwrapped it from around the baby's neck. "Alright, he's free!"

"Mia darling, you need to start pushing again when you can." Finn said gently.

"Is he okay? Is he alright?" Mia gasped.

"Let's get him out and see alright hon." Rory said her hands shaking further. She didn't want to think of any alternatives. He was alright. He was fine. He would be fine.

Mia screamed again and Rory suddenly had a handful of slimy tiny baby. She wrapped him in the blanket and rubbed him like she did pepper after a bath. Breathe, please breathe, cry, please, Rory begged in her mind.

It seemed like an eternity before the baby let out an unhappy wail.

Rory started sobbing, as did Colin and Mia.

"He's okay?" Mia chocked.

"He's fine. He's beautiful." Rory cried looking at the tiny purple alien face that she instantly loved. She raised him carefully, seeing as how he was still attached through the cord to Mia and passed baby McCrea to his mom.

"You're going to need to deliver the placenta now." Finn told her, his eyes on the baby and Mia, tears running down his face, a soft smile lighting his face up.

Lights flashed on the street lighting it up. The ambulance had come. Finally.

Rory smiled before everything went black. She'd passed out.

Funny story, but my 2nd child was born almost exactly like Mia's little boy, with the exception of it was in my front room with my mum and partner. I thought she was kicking really hard all night. So yes, this scene (including the cord round the babies neck) was based on real life events.
