Chapter:31 A Not So Happy Reunion
Ruby, Weiss, Yang, Team JNPR, and Oscar could only look nervously as Qrow sit next to the teen named Nomad.
Currently the teen is drinking a glasss of water as he gasp in relief and said, "You have no idea how many miles I have to run here."
"You think? I think you ran a whole marathon," Qrow slightly joke as Nomad punched him on the shoulder for that.
"Shiro is MIA," Nomad said as Qrow got a solemn look.
"I know," Qrow said.
"Um... Uncle Qrow. Who is he?" Rubg asked as Nomad stood up.
"Nomad Midway, a pleasure to meet you. I am an acquaintance of your uncle," Nomad said till he saw the Pokemons. "And looks like I'm not the only one."
"What do you mean?" Yang asked till Nomad grabbed something in his pocket and showed them six Pokeballs.
"I am a trainer," Nomad said as he threw his Pokeballs to the air and his Pokemon began to appear.
He has a Hariyama and a Luxray, but he has four different Pokemons.
The first one is a bipedal Pokémon resembling a gorilla. Its body consists mostly of shades of brown: light, tan brown on its forehead, chest, abs, and extremities; dark brown on its nose and triangular ears, as well as under its eyes; and medium, mud-like brown across the rest of its body, including its thick arms and legs. Its mouth, the tip of its nose, and its irises are orange, and its sclerae are white. Each of its upper arms have tan marks resembling bow-ties or butterflies, and it has two, diamond-shaped, tan marks running down its spine. The first, and larger, of the two marks begins around its shoulder blades, and the second, and smaller, mark begins below its rib cage. It has a thick bush of green, leaf-like hair on its head, which cascades down its back; on its forehead, a single, vine-like hair, which closely resembles a music note, falls between its eyes and curls at the end, which sits to its nose's left side. On its hips on either side, it has green, belt-like adornments resembling four leaves in a row. Similar adornments with two leaf-like parts sit on its each of its shoulders near the clavicles; these adornments appear to be part of its hair when not attacking. On each of its wrists, It has cuffs that resemble leafy crowns, with the peaks of the crown facing its hands.
The second one is a large sea slug-like Pokémon. It has six stubby legs, plain black eyes with white irises, with a third eye in the center of their forehead. It has horns adorning the side of its head, which point directly upwards in a crescent moon shape. Its underside up to the bottom of its mouth is pink, its back and the top of its head is completely brown, and it has two small protrusions on its back with several pink spots dotted around them. It also has two small protrusions on its neck underneath the horns, and it has a yellow border running down its body from its head, separating the brown and the pink coloration.
The third is a huge, bipedal Pokémon. It is primarily gray with plates of silver armor. The armor on its head has two pairs of holes with horns protruding from the foremost holes. Its forehead plating extends past its upper jaw in a small point. It has sky-blue eyes, and two nostril-like holes on the tip of its upper jaw. On the rim of its mouth are several pointed, fang-like protrusions and the nape of its neck and back have gray-silver armor sections. It has wide, blunt spikes on its shoulders and gray-silver bands on its arms and legs. Its hands and feet each have three claws. It has a thick, long, black tail that it can swing at enemies.
The last one is a thin, yellow, bipedal insectoid Pokémon. It has a broad, split leaf around its large, round head and it has long antennae that end in semicircles. Its eyes are red with no apparent sclerae. Its tiny thorax is dark green, and its long abdomen is yellow and covered in a green leaf. Its hands are long and leaf-like with a "bite" taken out of each. Its upper arms are also leaf-like, but with a vein of yellow at the top. Its thin legs are yellow with dark green, thick segments around its upper legs, making them appear armored.
"Say hello to my team," Nomad said as he points to the gorilla. "That's Drummer the Rillaboom.
He then points to the slug, "Loafer the Gastrodon."
To the the dinosaur, "Rubble the Aggron."
To the insectoid, "Flora the Leavenny."
He then points tobthe Hariyama and Luxray, "Lasty Sumo the Hariyama and Spark the Luxray."
His Pokemons then greeted them with U. Pichu, Hunch, and Nora's team greeted back.
"So what are you doing here?" Nora asked.
"I was around Mistral for a while till I some of the Hunters and Huntresses are on the duty for too long," Nomad said. "Some says between 2 days and 9 weeks which began to worry because no seasoned Hunter or Huntress ever gone to any missions that long in a simple Search and Destroy, so I began searching for them and every single one of them is dead."
Everyone gasp in shock from the news.
"Do you know who's behind this?" Qrow asked as Nomad nods.
"Yeah its Leo," Nomad said as everyone were shocked by this.
"Why do you think that it was him?" Ruby questioned.
"Other than the Council, the Headmasters also authorize the mission which means Leo is the only suspect," Nomad said.
'Let me take control for a moment,' Ozpin said through the mental link with Oscar as the farm boy reluctantly agree and Ozpin took over.
"I do expect it as well," Ozpin said through Oscar's body as both Yang and Weiss were weirded by this.
"We'll explain later," Ren said to them.
"Why do you say so?" Nora asked the reincarnated man.
"I do always see them if we ever have a chance of a meeting, and when I always see Leonardo. I always saw him as someone who would take sides that promises his safety of his life, but I sometimes ignore it because of him caring for his students," Ozpin said.
"Okay. If the Headmaster of Haven is a traitor, what do we do?" Yang asked.
"For now we must lay low, we don't want any suspicion on us," Qrow said as everyone agreed with him.
"So what's for dinner?" Nomad asked as everyone look at him. "What? I ran here for weeks so of course I need something to eat."
Everyone then relocates to the second-floor living room, with Weiss and Yang having finished being filled in on what everyone else knows so far.
"So, the Maidens. Magic. Salem. It's all true?" Weiss said as she absorb all of the information that was told to her.
"Uh-huh," Qrow said.
"That's the giss of it," Nomad said as he has some plate of biscuits with him.
"Miss Xiao Long, is this more or less what your mother told you?" Ozpin asked but Yang doesn't respond, still having her arms crossed.
"For the most part," Weiss said.
"You forgot something," Yang intervened. "You forgot to tell everyone what you did to Qrow and my mother."
Ruby gasp at this as Jaune said, "What is she talking about?"
"Oh, great," Qrow said as he groans and Pyrrha grew worried.
"Hm, that's not a secret I thought she would give up so easily. Your mother must trust you a great deal," Ozpin said as Yang scowled. "My ability to reincarnate, though a curse, isn't without a few key benefits. Much like the Maidens, I too possess a certain... "magical" power."
He then stood up and walk next to Qrow, "Using this power, I was able to gift the Branwen twins the ability to "see" more, to move freely and be unburdened by their natural bodies. I... well... gave them the ability to turn into birds." He then chuckled and continued. "Rather ridiculous sounding out loud, isn't it?"
'Wait what?' Oscar said to their link.
"Uncle?" Ruby said in confusion.
"You turned them... into birds," Ren muttered.
"Alright, now you're just messing with us," Nora said as Jaune grew angry.
"What else is new?" Jaune said as Pyrrha tried to make him relax.
"He's telling the truth. We saw it. Yang's mom... changed, right in front of us," Weiss said to them.
Yang look at Ozpin and said, "Why would you do something like that? I mean, what is wrong with you?"
"Yang, that's enough! We made a choice. We wanted this," Qrow said as Yang relented.
"May I?" Ozpin said to Qrow as the drunkard nods. "Granting this power to them was no trivial task, and I can assure you it was not done frivolously. I required assistance in gathering information on Salem's plans, as well as searching for Maidens when their hosts became unclear."
"Okay, so, have you done this with others? Like General Ironwood? Or Professor Goodwitch?" Ruby asked.
"As helpful as that might be, unfortunately, it is not that simple. My power is finite, and if I'm being honest, dwindling. The amount that I gifted to Qrow and Raven was, all things considered, rather miniscule. You see, centuries ago, I sacrificed a great deal of magic to four young women, who I hoped would use my gift for good. They were the first Maidens," Ozpin said as everyone were silent for a moment.
"Miss Xiao Long, it was never my intention to lie to you. To any of you. There are just some matters that I prefer to... "play close to the chest"," He said az he then look at Qrow. "I believe that's how you phrased it?"
Qrow chuckled and said, "Yeah."
"Everyone has a choice. The Branwens chose to accept their powers and the responsibilities that came with them. And later, one of them chose to abandon her duties in favor of her own self-interest. Now, all of you have a choice. If anyone wishes to leave, now is the time. There's no shame or disgrace in abstaining, only in retreat," Ozpin said as everyone pondered on his word's. "Very well, then."
Suddenly Yang stood up.
"Yang?" Ruby said as she look at her older sister in confusion.
"If Ruby sticks around, then I will too. If there's one thing I know about her, it's that she somehow always knows the right thing to do," Yang said as smiled at Ruby's direction. "But, if we're going to help, if we're going to keep risking our lives, no more lies. No more half-truths."
Everyone remains silent. Ozpin and Qrow exchange a brief look with each other. Ozpin ponders Yang's words for one last moment, before responding with a smile, "Understood."
Yang then sits back down.
"So... what now? I mean, what can we do?" Jaune asked.
"Yeah, I did come here to help," Nomad said.
"Mm, that is a difficult question. One that I believe is best answered tomorrow," Ozpin said.
"What do you mean?" Jaune asked.
"The road ahead is undoubtedly filled with hardships and peril. However, it's been far too long since you have all been together," He said as he put his hand on Yang's shoulder. "Please, take tonight, enjoy this moment."
Yang smiled at this as suddenly Oscar's eyes glow, with Ozpin giving him control back to his body. Oscar realizes he has his hand on Yang's shoulder and immediately freaks out as he quickly took it off and hold his cane nervously. Yang and Weiss laugh at him, before hearing a noise from Nora.
"Oooohhh. Raven? Qrow? They're birds!! Cracked it!" Nora said in realization as Ren shakes his head at Nora being slow on the uptake.
At the Branwen Tribe camp's entrance, the mook and two other bandits stand guard, conversing with each other. Suddenly, a voice calls out from the forest.
"Hey ugly!"
With the mook and the bandits' attention drawn, Mercury and Emerald walk out from the forest toward the camp's entrance.
"Is Raven Branwen home?" Emerald asked as the mook sighs.
"Ya know, I've had a real bad week. So I think I'm gonna take it out on you--" He stops mid-sentence when he notices Cinder and Arthur walk out of the forest and joins the two of them.
"Hmph, doesn't look like he wants to cooperate, Boss," Mercury said as Cinder chuckles.
"Then make him," Cinder said.
"I was hoping you'd say that," Mercury said as Emerald proceeds to go forward. The mook and the other bandits hold their ground while Emerald unsheathes Thief's Respite, twirling them before they transform into their sickle forms before moving forward to attack.
Unbeknownst to them, the same pair of black eyes watch them while still hiding from them.
And that is it for this chapter.
While this is very short, this really showed a lot of things if you ask me.
Anyways, Nomad is the second member that is showed in the story, and I am excited to have him added here with the help of Nitro zeus as if it wasn't for him, I couldn't finish the team and have to think of another one of my own.
I will have some trouble in some future chapters but I won't worry about to much since I am quite ahead on my chapters, and have no reason to worry at all if I have still time.
The recycle bin idea is not gonna come out till I have some more time since I always create more chapters in this story.
