A/N: Happy Easter everybunny! Mac is four, about to turn five in this story.
"Is Easter really that big of a deal nowadays?" Lisa asks as she sits at the kitchen table putting the finishing touches on Mackenzie's Easter Basket before she woke up.
"I know it seems strange." Sonny chuckles from inside the kitchen where he was making Easter colored pancakes. "But they did a whole thing at school and she keeps askin what the Easter Bunny is gonna bring her."
"Do you think she is going to like it?" Lisa asks looking between Sonny and the light blue round plastic bin with scalped edges she had decorated with Mackenzie's name, a bunny and several egg and flower decals.
"Babe, it's candy and toys, she's gonna love it. And it looks great, gonna make all of the pre-k Moms jealous when they see it on the gram." Sonny smiles. "Now, would Mommy like some coffee before our ball of energy wakes up?"
"You and those pre-k moms, I swear." Lisa shoots him a side glance. "And yes, coffee would be amazing."
"Listen here Davis, you're the only pre-K Mom I have my eyes on." Sonny walks over to her carrying a cup of coffee and sits it on the table in front of her. "They all just wish their husbands were as attractive and as attentive as I am. I'm a damn prize baby."
"The simple fact that you think so highly of yourself." Lisa responds as she takes the first sip of her coffee.
"Now see, I hear ya hatin, but ya ain't disagreein." Sonny chuckles.
"We agreed a long time ago to never lie to each other." Lisa smiles. "You may be a serious pain in the ass sometimes, but you're my pain in the ass. And you make life a hell of a lot more fun."
"Why thank ya Lisa." Sonny leans down and kisses her. "Ya hear that?"
"Yeah." Lisa nods. "She must be awake, let me hide this stuff before she gets down here." She gathers the remanence of the packaging for the Easter Basket.
Lisa was just walking back into the kitchen from the garage when Mackenzie came hauling into the kitchen in her Easter pajamas. "The Easter Bunny came!" Mac exclaims looking at the basket on the table.
"That's a pretty cool Easter Basket, ain't it Kenz?" Sonny chuckles watching her.
"Yes Daddy, it's amazing." Mac responds while climbing onto the chair in front of the basket. She turns and looks between Lisa and Sonny. "Can I open it?"
"How about a picture first, then you can dive in?" Lisa says picking her phone up off the counter. Mackenzie turns so she is next to the basket and flashes Lisa a huge smile. "Perfect." Lisa smiles. "Go for it."
"Mommy sit next to me." Mac says looking at Leisa before she starts to pull items from the basket.
"Is that how you ask for something?" Lisa asks.
"Mommy please sit next to me." Mackenzie corrects.
"Thank you." Lisa smiles pulling a chair next to Mac and sitting down. "Let's see what the Easter Bunny brought you."
"Okay." Mac smiles and first pulls out pink sparkly heart shaped sunglasses. "Pretty." Mac says as she puts them. "Can you take a picture of me in them?"
"I can." Lisa laughs as she snaps the picture. She turns her phone to Mac. "Is this to your liking?"
"Yes Mommy." Mac nods. "That's perfect."
Lisa looks between Sonny and Mac and chuckles. "I'm glad you approve of my picture taking skills."
"A water bottle?" Mac confirms pulling a stainless-steel water bottle from the basket.
"It is." Lisa nods and reaches into the basket to pull something else out. "And these are gems that stick on it so we can make a design on it."
"Oh cool. It will be sparkly." Mac smiles. "I like sparkles."
"I know sweetie." Lisa reaches into the basket and pulls out the sequin bunny ears. "So, you really like these?"
"Ah yes!" Mackenzie says taking them out of Lisa's hand and putting them on her head. "How do I look?"
"You're missing one thing." Lisa grabs the heart shaped sunglasses and puts them on her face. "Perfect."
"I feel like the sparkle princess." Mac comments as she turns her attention back to the basket. Next, she pulls out a stuffed bunny and pets it. "It's so soft." She sets the stuffed animal on the table and dives back into the basket. "A barbie coloring book and a new barbie." Mac inspects the barbie. "She's in the Navy like you Mommy." She says proudly.
"Yeah, she is. Do you like that?" Lisa asks.
Mac nods her head yes. "She can be friends with my astronaut barbie."
"Wow, I think they will be best friends." Lisa smiles.
"I agree, Mommy."
"What else ya got in there Kenzie?" Sonny asks coming to sit on the other side of Mackenzie.
"Um." Mac pauses while she pulls out a couple more things. "Bubble bath and nail polish." She reaches her hand back into the basket. "And sparkly hair clips."
"That's pretty cool." Sonny chuckles never did he think he would care about any of that. "What's in the eggs?"
"Oh, there's stuff in there too?" Mac asks.
"I don't know what the Easter Bunny put in there, ya gotta open'em and find out." Sonny answers.
"Okay, okay." Mac reaches for one of the plastic eggs in the basket and opens it. "Candy!"
"I'll be taken that." Sonny chuckles as she quickly moves the egg out of his reach.
"No Daddy. It's my candy... But I'll share with you." Mac says.
Sonny smiles, as lost as him and Lisa felt as parents most days, maybe they were doing something right. "Well alright, that sounds like a deal to me."
Mac looks between Sonny and Davis. "Thank you to the Easter Bunny. He's like Santa, he can just hear me, right?"
"Yeah sweetie." Lisa smiles. "He heard you. Now can we clean this up so we can eat breakfast?"
"Yes." Mac nods as she starts putting the items back in the basket. "Daddy, did you make Easter pancakes?"
"I did." Sonny says pulling the warm plates containing the pancakes out of the oven. "What do ya want to drink with your pancakes Mac?"
"Orange juice please." She responds.
"Ya got it." Sonny says.
After the three are seated at the kitchen table and have started eating Mac looks at Sonny. "These are really good."
"I'm glad ya like them." Sonny responds with a smile.
When Lisa walked out of the master bathroom into the bedroom, she looks at her and Sonny's bed and found a sleeveless ankle length jumpsuit with a light blue and white checkered pattern with pink roses throughout. "Sonny Quinn." She calls.
When Sonny walks into their room he found her sitting on the edge of the bed in her knee length robe with her hair and makeup done not looking very amused. "Yes, my love." He asks trying his best to sound innocent, even though he knew full well what she wanted.
"I was going to ask why is this here, but seeing as you're wearing the matching shirt, I think I have my answer." Lisa says.
"Look, I, uh thought that it would be funny." Sonny says running his hand down his face when he could tell she wasn't buying it. "You're gonna look great in that jumpsuit and." Sonny turns his side to her. "I have a built-in beer pocket in my shirt. It's a win, win."
"Correction, it is a double win for you." Lisa says trying to keep a straight face. "You get a built-in beer pocket, and you get to stare at my ass in this jumpsuit."
"Well, I, uh." Sonny studders.
"It's a little girly for my liking, but it is certainly festive." Lisa stands and wraps her arms around his waist. "You are the only person on the face of this Earth that I would wear that for and matching no less."
"Thank ya baby." Sonny says giving her a quick kiss. "We gotta stay lookin fresh."
Lisa drops her arms from around his waist. "Get out."
"I love ya too." Sonny chuckles as he walks towards the bedroom door. When Sonny walks into the kitchen he finds Jason, Mandy, Sophia and Emma had also arrived. "Jason and family."
Jason looks Sonny up and down. "What are you wearing? It's almost as bad as Clay."
Sonny scoffs, pretending to be offended. "My Easter outfit, thank ya very much Jason."
"I think you look nice Sonny." Emma says stepping forward to hug him. "I'm surprised you and Clay don't match, actually."
"Ah, yes." Clay butts in from his seat on the counter. "We decided to go with a coordinated, but not matching look this year."
"Coordinated, uh-huh. You guys are idiots." Emma shakes her head. Lisa walks into the kitchen. "There's the matching. I know you too well Sonny."
Sonny tips his head to the side and looks at Emma. "I don't know how I feel about that statement there Emma."
"You can say it." Jason speaks up. "Total Alana vibes."
Emma turns to look at Jason. "I'm taking that as a compliment."
"No one ever said it wasn't sweetheart." Jason assures her. He looks at Lisa. "See Sonny, that is how you wear that print."
"Thank you." Lisa chuckles. "I'm going to need some alcohol if I have to wear this all day."
"But ya pull it off very well." Sonny says handing her a beer.
"I guess I should just be glad you didn't go with the sports coat and dress shorts like Clay over there." Lisa points the neck of her beer bottle at Clay and shakes her head.
"Not cool Davis." Clay fake pouts. "It's not my fault that Sonny isn't as daring with his fasion choices as I am."
"Don't fool yourself Clay." Lisa pats him on the shoulder as she walks past to walk into Mackenzie's playroom. "Hi Sophia. That is a very pretty romper you're wearing."
Sophia turns and looks at Lisa. "Thank you, Aunt Lisa."
"Are you girls excited for the Easter egg hunt in a little while?" Lisa asks.
"Yes." They say in unison.
"I love what you have done with the playroom." Emma says standing at the doorway. "Blue theme, a little different than expected."
"Yeah." Lisa chuckles. "She's not a big pink fan. Loves sparkles, and I mean loves sparkles, but could care less for the color pink."
"Why do I feel like that compilates decorating things?" Emma asks as she takes a swig of her hard seltzer.
"Ha. Because it does." Lisa huffs. "Companies still think all little girls want pink things."
"Well, regardless, you have made this room look awesome." Emma smiles.
"Thank you." Lisa says with a smile.
"Hate to break up girl time." Clay says with is signature grin while rocking a pair of bunny ears. "But there are some Easter Eggs in desperate need of being found. Mackenzie and Sophia do you girls think you can help me find them?" Both Mac and Sophia jump to their feet and run to Clay. He picks one up and each arm and heads for the back yard. "That's the kind of enthusiasm I like to see."
Lisa and Emma follow Clay and the girls into the back yard. They watch Clay put them down and the two girls take off running with baskets in hand to catch up to RJ who was already deep in the bushes hunting expertly hidden eggs. Emma and Lisa sit down next to Mandy, Naima and Jameelah at the patio table. "I think Clay carrying our girls would be a great picture for the cover of the Navy Times. With a headline of Get to Know the Operator Behind the Sniper Rifle." Mandy laughs.
"He does wear those bunny ears well." Emma notes. She watches Naima's head almost spin all the way around at her comment. "Not like that. I would never with an operator, not after Mom."
"Clay's not Jason." Mandy states.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Emma asks not really enjoying the way this conversation was going.
"It means he does a better job of staying in both worlds. I think he looks at Jason as Bravo 1 and in so many ways sees the SEAL and leader he wants to be, but then on the flip side, he sees where Jason, the husband and father could have done better."
"Regardless, I have a life in New York and Clay has a serious girlfriend." Emma defends.
"Do you see a girlfriend anywhere around here?" Naima asks.
"Lisa, I feel like you're the only one with any sense at this table." Emma says looking at Lisa.
"He is ready to get married and have kids, like yesterday." Lisa responds. "If that's what you want, then yes Clay is a good option for that."
"And I do not, thank you Lisa." Emma says.
"Fine, fine. If you insist." Naima says.
"Thank you." Emma says leaning back in her chair.
"Mommy, mommy look how may eggs I got." Mac says proudly holding her basket out to Lisa.
"Oh wow, that's a lot Kenz. Good job." Lisa smiles.
"I like your bunny ears Kenzie." Naima says.
"They are so sparkly." Mackenzie laughs as she moves her head around, so the sequins catch the sun. "They match my sunglasses."
"That they do." Naima chuckles.
Clay walks up to the table carrying Sophia. "How did you do Sophie?" Mandy asks.
"I got a bunch." Sophia smiles pointing at the basket Clay was carrying for her. "I go down now, Uncle Clay."
"Well, okay then." Clay chuckles as he sits Sophia on the deck. "Did you girls have fun?"
"Yes. Thank you for Easter Egg hunting with us." Mac says from her spot on Lisa lap.
"Yeah, thank you Uncle Clay." Sophia chimes in.
"Ima start grillin if there ain't any objections." Sonny says approaching the group. He sees everyone nod their heads in agreement of his plan.
Sonny had his back turned to the backdoor when he felt Lisa wrap her arms around him from behind. "Who would have thought this is where we would end up. Matching Easter outfits hosting an Easter egg hunt."
Sonny turns and kisses her. "Uh, not me for one. But I gotta tell ya, I am enjoyin today. I think it's the matchin outfits."
"This jumpsuit is remarkably comfortable." Lisa chuckles.
"Glad I picked well." Sonny laughs.
"Sonny."
"Yeah baby?"
"Thank you for making today so fun for Mackenzie. I never really had days like this as a kid and it means so much to me to be able to give that to her." Lisa says looking into his eyes.
"I love bein able to give her the childhood we wish we had." He kisses her again. "And I love doin with ya by my side."
