CHAPTER 34
3 DAYS AFTER THEY WENT BACK TO L.A
Today is going to be a long day. But Sam hadn't known just how long when she woke up this morning. She expected another normal day. As if normal even existed for her . Tragedy. That's the word that seems to describe her life lately because it this world can never be easy on her. But then again, nothing is ever easy when Evan Buckley is in her life.
"Call me when you guys land, please" her mother presses a kiss on her forehead as she say to her,
"Have a safe flight. I love you." Sam continue
Grant waves his goodbyes to Sam as he struggles to carry all their luggage. Mostly her mothers who over packs for any trip anywhere. Her mother could be told she is spending a weekend at a resort in Orlando and she has to prepare 3 bags full of clothes and one bag for her shoes. You can never be too prepared for a mini vacay! She would say.
"I love you more sweetie. Please call me more, I hate going too long without hearing from you," she points a finger at Sam,
"And expect me to visit for Thanksgiving and Christmas. You may not be able to come to Florida but I sure as hell will come to you." Sam's moms says
"Of course mom." She answered
"I'm proud of you" her eyes glisten with emotions. Sam give her hand a small squeeze.
"I do it all for you." Sam reply
Her mother fans her face in attempt to stop the tears.
"Tell my regards to Evan" she says
"Yeah! I will mom, I'm sure he going to miss you" Sam reply
"I'm going to miss both of you. Evan is a great and sweet guy. I'm glad that I'VE Met him" Her mom says
"He's A keeper mom" Sam reply
"Now go before you and Grant miss your flight" She look over her mom's shoulder to where Grant stood at the entrance of the airport, patiently waiting for her mother. Never have she met such a patient man and it makes Sam's happy her mother has him. Because it takes a great deal of patience to put up with her mother.
She blew me one last kiss before closing her passenger door ever so gently. She stay put in her spot until she see her mother and Grant disappear into LAX before pulling out and head into the dreadful terror that is LA traffic. The drivers in this state definitely have Florida drivers beat. Equally the same when it comes to not caring about their lives but the residents in Los Angeles seem to be even more reckless and not have an ounce of care about anyone else on the road. It's like everyone is minding their own business trying to get to their destination completely ignoring the speed limit as if it were nothing else but a suggestion.
It took about an hour for her to get to where she needed to be at to meet Evan. It's their usually Date Time, after Evan's 24hour Shift. They usually Get breakfast together / Lunch together.
as she finally pulled in into the small lot of Sweet Cup café. Memories slammed into her head of all the mornings Evan and her spent there, talking about anything and everything they possibly could before one of them had to leave to work.
Sam sat in silence for a few moments, the only noise being the roaring inside her head, and stared at the café. It looked like a cottage more than it did a café. Plants hung by the front entrance, three white small rounded tables occupied the front of the place, a center piece of purple tulips placed on every single one.
Fresh air greets her as she walk up to the entrance. Her fingers tremble as she reach for the door and give it a slight push. It groans as she step into the warmth of the slightly packed café.
Different aromas hit her all at once but every single one pleasant. The different coffee beans, lavender, vanilla. Cozy. That is what this place was. Peaceful.
No one turned their heads towards her direction as she walked in but Sam scanned every single one of their faces, searching for one in particular. When she did not see those bright ocean eyes looking up at her, or those familiar broad shoulders facing her, she made Her way to the very back of the café. The owner looked up from behind her counter and gave Sam a warm smile. Her face was stroking. Such beauty She didn't understand. Her golden hair was braided to one side, flowing down her tan back which was exposed in her flowy purple dress that reached just above her knees. And her eyes were round and kind. The color of chocolate. Sam returned the smile.
There were two blue velvet couches facing each other, a gold round end table on each side of both couches, in the very back. Her favorite spot.
"I was starting to get concerned you forgot about me."
A set of warm brown eyes meet her gaze. Yasmin, the beautiful owner of the café. She gives her shoulder a small squeeze before setting down two menus on the end table for Sam, as if she knew Sam was expecting him.
"Never that" Sam took her gentle hand in mind and gave her a small squeeze.
"My parents were in town, couldn't spare a morning to come here." Sam reply
"And you didn't bring them here? I'm up charging your coffee from now on" her eyes sparkle as she gives her a hard time.
"You wouldn't do that to your favorite customer would you?" Sam answered
She gives her a small hmm before walking away but throwing her one last smile over her shoulder.
Sam let her gaze fall to her lap and let herself get lost in her head. She wonder who will speak first when Evan gets here.
She let out a loose breathe and go over the menu as if she haven't seen it a million of times already. And no matter how many times she look at her other options, She always get the same thing.
She debate on waiting for Evan to arrive before ordering. They supposed to meet at 1.
Her phone tells her it's 12:55. She can wait five more minutes.
An hour. An hour later and he still hasn't arrived. Yasmin has passed by her a few times to check up on her , suspicion swimming behind her eyes as she sees the couch across from her remains empty. She shrug it off as if no big deal.
He would've called.
She drum her fingers on her thigh, patiently waiting. Until another hour goes by of her sitting her alone, Yasmin continuing to ask me if she still want to wait on Buck.
Annoyed and frustrated, she grab her phone and find his contact.
Voicemail.
She can feel her heart pounding hard in her chest cavity. her blood starts to boil.
'How can he leave me here waiting two hours and not call?' Sam thought
She try calling him one more time and when she am greeted by his voicemail again, she shoot up from the couch and ignore every stare her way. Even Yasmin's as she storm out of the café.
Her car door slams shut and she slam her palms against her steering wheel.
'How could he? How could he stand me up? If he was busy or have an emergency up , all he had to do was call me. Call me and let me know. It would've been more decent than leaving me waiting like a stupid fool in a café shop. Our café shop.' Sam thought
The vibration of her phone causes her to jump. She rush to grab it out of her purse. Disappointment fills her veins when she see it isn't him. Instead, it is an unsaved number.
'Come to the hospital.' The text message says
She furrow her brows.
' Who is this?' Sam reply back.
The small bubble appears but quickly disappears. What the hell. Then it appears again.
'Savannah. You need to come.'
" Why the hell is she texting me to come in on my day off?" Sam thought Puzzled,
She quickly send her another text.
"For what reason? If something happened, I'm sure I would've been paged to come in immediately."
She wait and wait for her response. It seems it is a day to keep Samantha waiting.
'Because Evan is here.' Savannah reply
