Hello Wielders, and welcome back! Here we go with a new chapter and a new World. Where has our Seeker landed and who will he meet? Find out in the next chapter!
Tenebrae stumbled out of his portal. He was able to catch his balance by leaning against a rough stone pillar. He pushed off the pillar to look around.
Tenebrae was inside a cave. It was one that seemed familiar. There were many carvings on the walls. All of them seemed to have been drawn by children. There were a couple that Tenebrae focused on.
"Wait, is that?" Tenebrae asked himself.
Tenebrae examined the pictures. One had a young boy with spikey hair and a young girl with short hair. The two had stars in their hands, though it looked like they were about to feed each other. The other picture also depicted a boy and a girl. The boy's hair was straight and colored in the most, while the girl had a star shaped pendant around her neck. There was star surrounding the two of them.
"I'm back at the Destiny Islands," he said. "I know I was looking for a strong Light, but why here? I've been here before, but I doubt there was a strong enough Light. Either way, I should rest before I go explore."
Tenebrae walked to the door in the cave and leaned on it. He needed to recover after his last encounter. He yawned as he drifted to sleep.
There was no dream this time around. But the Seeker woke up refreshed. He stretched as he stood up.
'Guess I should go search and find out what drew me back,' Tenebrae thought as he left the cave.
Tenebrae covered his eyes as he transitioned from darkness to sunlight. Tenebrae took in the sights of the Islands. The sand, the trees, the sea, all of it was just as calming as when he came here with Solas. The Seeker took in a breath of the sea air.
Tenebrae felt his stomach growl. He held his stomach as he looked around. Since the island looked isolated, he wasn't sure how far civilization was. But the island did seem to be inhabited, or at least people came to visit. He noticed some trees and went to them.
He noticed the trees were on an islet across the bridge. There was a door in the rock, that connected to the bridge. Tenebrae looked down and saw the shack he had changed in when he had come to relax.
Tenebrae went into the shack. He noticed there was a staircase that was going up a level. He walked up the stairs and came to another door, opening it. The door opened to the bridge to the islet. He wasn't surprised but proceeded on.
Tenebrae walked along the bridge. He got on the islet and looked around. There were a few trees and Tenebrae noticed they had some coconuts. There was one tree that had grown over the side then up. It had some kind of star shaped fruit.
Tenebrae climbed one of the coconut trees. He was able to keep hold of the tree and knock off a few of the ripe looking coconuts. When they fell, Tenebrae let go of the tree and landed on the sand. He took off his jacket and used it as a sling. He carried the coconuts to a spring he saw when he left the cave.
Tenebrae sat at the spring and laid out the food he found. He picked up a rock and used it to open one of the coconuts. He opened it enough so he could drink the milk within. When it was drained, the Seeker forced the fruit open. He ate some of the meat on the inside. As he ate, he thought about his current predicament.
'This Island was in the Realm of Darkness,' Tenebrae thought. 'It was then restored back into the Realm of Light. Solas and I came to relax sometime after that. That was the last time I came to this World. So how am I feeling a Light now?'
Tenebrae opened another coconut. 'Cinderella, Snow White, Belle.' He listed off the names on his fingers. 'Shaylex also mentioned the names Jasmine and Alice. She said her friend Kairi had a heart of Pure Light as well. There are seven Princesses of Heart, and I have three confirmed. I need to confirm the others.'
Tenebrae finished the second coconut. He went to the spring and took a few gulps. The feeling of the clear water was delicious. It quenched his thirst and filled his stomach.
'So now, I need to find four more. I guess I need to see who is in this World. But the question is, where do I begin looking?'
Tenebrae heard boats approach the island. He grabbed his jacket and ducked down into some foliage to stay hidden. He heard some voices as he saw some figures jump onto the pier. There were two boys and two girls. All of them looked to be teenagers.
One of the boys had sandy blonde hair. His blue eyes seemed to be filled with excitement and competition. He was dressed in an open yellow shirt with white sleeves. He had on black shorts with a pouch attached to the hip. He wore a pair of yellow and black sandals. He was swinging a red pole, almost like he was holding a sword.
The other boy had a darker tan. His orange hair was spiked into a large coif, a blue bandana was tied around his head. He was wearing a pale-yellow tank top, lined with black and had bead tipped strings. He wore some low knee baggy yellow shorts with black "X" shaped straps on the knees. On his feet were some green strapped sandals. His arms had blue wristbands. His brown eyes showed the same spark of competition like the blonde. A blue and white ball was being spun on his finger.
One of the girls was laughing at the two boys. Her brown hair bobbed as she giggled at what the two boys were saying. Her green eyes were filled with joy. She seemed to be dressed in a yellow dress with overall straps and a pocket on the chest. She had on brown sandals and a blue bead bracelet on her left wrist. Tenebrae thought he saw rope on her waist.
The other girl was smiling, but it seemed forced. Her auburn hair was short but flew in the breeze. Her blue eyes were looking at the other three teens, with a mixture of happiness and sadness. She was dressed in a black top under a purple trimmed whit tank top. She was wearing a purple skirt with purple shorts underneath. A blue belt was on her waist. She was the only one wearing shoes, hers being white with purple caps. Her accessories included a black chocker, a necklace with a silver bead, a pair of bracelets on her right wrists, and a purple armband and yellow wristband on her left arm.
Tenebrae's eyes widened when he saw the last girl. She was bright! A Pure Light with no Darkness.
'A Princess of Heart!?' he thought, ready to summon his Keyblade. 'There's one here? But who is she?'
Tenebrae watched as the four teens went on to the beach. They seemed to be chatting animatedly. They seemed to be trying to cheer up the red head. Tenebrae could recognize the look in her eyes, the look of loss.
Tenebrae wasn't sure what to do. If he approached, he would draw their attention. But at the same time, he felt like he would attack the Princess. If he didn't approach, he would need to stay hidden until they left for the night. Neither option was ideal, but he had to pick one.
'I don't need to interact with them,' the Seeker thought, 'But I won't be able to keep my presence hidden for long. Let's just get this over with.'
Tenebrae relaxed and put on his jacket. He let go of his breath and stood up. He walked to an edge and jumped down. When he hit the sand, he drew the attention of the four teens. They had various looks of surprise.
The blonde boy readied the red pole, looking to get into a battle stance. "Halt! Who goes there?"
Tenebrae held up his hands defensively. "Don't strike," he said evenly, trying to keep his anger leveled. "I was ship-wrecked. I came upon this island by chance. A storm destroyed my ship."
"A traveler, eh?" the orange haired boy eyed Tenebrae, he had a bit of an accent. "Well, you definitely don't seem to be from the mainland."
"Because I'm not," Tenebrae said. "I'm from across the sea. As I said, I came here by chance."
"Well, we can't just leave you here," the brunette girl said, "But we also don't have a way to get you to our home."
Tenebrae shook his head. "I only need a place to rest. I'm used to sleeping in various conditions. I just didn't want to wake up with a stick hitting me. I am no threat. You can call me Tenebrae."
The blonde put his "weapon" on his shoulder. "The name's Tidus. You're looking at the future Star for our high school's Blitzball team."
The orange haired boy started spinning his ball on his finger. "I'm Wakka. Current Star."
"Hey!" Tidus seemed offended.
The brunette girl giggled. "I'm Selphie. Babysitter to these two numbskulls."
Both Tidus and Wakka seemed offended. "Hey!"
The auburn-haired girl nodded. "I'm Kairi."
Tenebrae's eyes widened. "Kairi!?"
"Yes?" she seemed confused.
Tenebrae covered his mouth and looked away. 'That was the name Shalyex mentioned. This was the girl she mentioned was on the island she came from. And she has the Light of a Princes of Heart. Oh no…'
"Do I know you?" Kairi asked.
Tenebrae shook his head. "No, sorry. I… I've heard your name from another. And they were worried about you. But I'm sure they would be happy to know you are okay."
"Really? Was his name Riku?" Kairi asked, looking hopeful. "Or was it a girl, named Ashley?"
'Ashley? That was the name Keval called Shaylex when we spoke in Olympus,' Tenebrae thought. 'After his encounter with her. And Shaylex mentioned Kairi when she spoke about her past. Dammit…'
Tenebrae closed his eyes to hide his emotions. He shook his head. "No, neither of those names are familiar. And I can't give you the name, I promised I would let them explain everything."
When Tenebrae opened his eyes, he could see the betrayal in Kairi's. She looked terribly upset with his answer. It was a look he was all too familiar with. One he had seen on many of his own allies.
"No, it's okay," Kairi said. "I was hoping that they were okay. It has been a while since I've seen them. I miss them."
Selphie gave Kairi a hug. It looked like the two girls were close. But Kairi seemed broken, hollow. She seemed incomplete.
"Well, that became a bummer," Wakka said, ashamed "Hey, new guy, let's give the girls some space, ya. Kairi hasn't been herself lately."
"Come on," Tidus said, "I'm eager to see if you can hold your own. Let's head up to the islet." The blonde pointed his pole to the islet.
Tenebrae nodded. He followed the two boys through the shack and across the bridge. When they got to the islet, Tenebrae saw Selphie toss up a wooden sword the Wakka caught. Wakka ran up to Tenebrae and handed him the sword.
"Here use this," Wakka said. "One of the things we like to do is spar. You look like you can use the exercise."
Tenebrae took the sword and held back a growl. They may have been younger than him, but that comment was enough. He planned to hold back his magic, but it didn't mean he couldn't have fun.
"If you believe I do, I don't see the harm," Tenebrae said, gritting his teeth behind a smile. He tested the weight of the toy sword. "But why don't we make it interesting. Both of you take me on. If I fall off, I'll concede."
"Alright," Tidus said. "If you win, we get you some food from the mainland. If you lose, you gotta work for us here."
'Win and get food, lose and I have to babysit,' Tenebrae thought, 'I guess I'm glad I have a competitive nature now.'
"Deal!" Tenebrae said, getting into his stance.
Tenebrae put up the wooden sword in time to block the blue and white ball Wakka had. His reaction time was cut, but he had just enough sense to jump over a low swing from Tidus. The ball came back before he could land. Tenebrae was able to swing mid-air, knocking the ball downward. Tidus used his own pole to knock the ball back to Wakka. Wakka was able to catch the ball and rushed in.
Tenebrae landed and jumped to the sideways tree. He blocked the ball again. When Tidus swung at his legs again, Tenebrae jumped over the blonde boy. He was about to counter when his instincts had him duck. Wakka's ball went past his head and hit the back of Tidus's.
"Whoops sorry man," Wakka said with a chuckle.
"I'm the enemy here," Tenebrae said closing the gap with Wakka.
Tenebrae used the wooden sword like a rapier. He scored a few hits on the Wakka, jabbing at the boy's shoulder and chest. The blows were enough to knock Wakka back. A sweep with the sword was enough to knock Wakka on his ass.
"WAKKA!" Tidus yelled, dramatically.
The blonde jumped up and swung at Tenebrae. The Seeker blocked with his sword before rolling out of the way. Tidus closed he distance and kept swinging. Tenebrae blocked and dodged only slightly to avoid getting hit.
Tenebrae jumped back to the center of the islet "I admit you are quite skilled. But you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover," Tenebrae said with a smirk.
Tenebrae rushed in. Tidus swung down. There was a clash of wood as the two struck, but Tenebrae ended up behind Tidus. The Seeker stood up and rubbed his forehead, a bruise forming. Tidus fell forward, unconscious.
"Guess you were more skilled than I thought," Tenebrae said. He walked up to the two boys and picked them up. He put the against the coconut tree. "You two are coordinated and skilled individually. But you two think it's a game."
Tenebrae sat on the sideways tree. He set the wooden sword up on it and waited. Both boys would be considered warriors in a different time. Like he said, he hadn't even used any magic to augment his abilities. Tenebrae smirked as he flexed his own hand.
"Wow, you must be really strong."
Tenebrae looked up and saw Selphie and Kairi walk along the bridge. The brunette had a knowing smile on her face.
"Tidus and Wakka aren't the best fighters here," Selphie said. "Our friend Riku can beat them and me at once. And it's been a while since he has been home. Those two have been training nonstop to get better than him."
"Well, it is working," Tenebrae said, "It's definitely a good tactic, and they have the coordination to prove it. They are also strong individually."
"I'm no slouch either," Selphie said, putting her hands on her hips. "You should take us all on, when they get up."
Tenebrae laughed. "I may take you up on that. But for now, I need to just relax. Fighting can be tiring, and these two put up a good fight."
Selphie giggled as she walked to the tree the two boys were on. She sat next to them and hummed. Tenebrae was relaxed just watching the trio. It was like watching the Light Protectors interact.
'But why did she only mention Riku?' Tenebrae thought. 'There was another. Another name…'
"There was another, wasn't there?" Kairi whispered, leaning on the sideways tree. "Riku, Ashley, and I, we had another friend. But I can't seem to recall his name or face. It's so hazy."
"I wouldn't know," he whispered back. "I was unaware there was another. And I apologize for before. If not for my promise, I'd find a way to contact my source."
"It's okay." Kairi didn't seem okay. "I'm just hoping they are alright."
Tenebrae nodded and sighed. He leaned on the tree to try and relax. There wasn't much he could say or do for Kairi. This was unfamiliar territory, and he doubted Shaylex would have been happy for Kairi to be made aware of her predicament.
'Her light is making me sentimental,' he thought, looking at the Princess. She was watching the trio with a sad smile. 'But I can't betray what little trust I have from Shaylex. She needs to be the one to tell them.'
Tenebrae heard the two boys stir. When he looked over, he saw Wakka and Tidus talking to Selphie. They seemed to be having a joyful conversation, since they were laughing. After a bit, Selphie turned to him.
"So, the boys told me about your bet," she said with a giggle. "And it looks like we owe you some food. Anything you like?"
Tenebrae sat up, shaking his head. "I'm not picky. Whatever you bring will be better than seawater."
Tidus and Wakka had looks of surprise. Selphie just looked worried.
Tidus stood up and stretched. "Well, I say we head back," he said, "If we go back now and grab some food, we can be back in time for lunch. Let's go guys!"
Tidus ran to the side of the islet and jumped off. Wakka wasn't too far behind. Both boys started to swim to the pier. Selphie giggled as she and Kairi walked along the bridge. Tenebrae watched them all leave.
When the four teens left on their boats, Tenebrae finally jumped off the tree. He walked along the bridge, jumping off halfway down to the beach.
'I've only been to a part of the island,' Tenebrae thought, 'I've also been to the mainland and fought some Heartless alongside Solas. There was hardly any trace of Darkness here, and that was without the Princess in the World. Now, there is near nothing. But I can still sense some.'
Tenebrae walked to a door in the mountain. Opening it, Tenebrae was surprised to see elements of an obstacle course. There was a bridge with sections missing. Across the bridge, there was a tower with a zipline leading deeper into the island. There were multiple trees sporadically placed, with a star shaped plant coming out the side of the mountain.
'I should be worried that none of this is safe,' Tenebrae thought as he approached. 'But it's definitely well-constructed. Let's see how well I can do. I'm sure I can do better than a bunch of kids.'
Tenebrae started the course He ran across the bridge, making the first jump. When he reached the edge to do the next jump, the board broke off, falling into the beach below. Tenebrae was able to grab the ledge and pull himself back up as quick as he fell.
'Yeah! This place is not well made! How are these kids not injured?'
Tenebrae continued the course. He climbed the tower as quick as he could. He got to the top and grabbed the zipline. He held on tight as he propelled across the line.
When he reached the end, Tenebrae kept moving. He jumped off the wooden platform onto the first tree. He jumped onto the top of the next few with ease. He got to the star plant and touched it. He was surprised when it lit up.
'Well, that was interesting,' Tenebrae thought as he jumped off the tree. 'When was the last time I ran an obstacle course? Not relying on my magic definitely made it interesting.'
Tenebrae took a few steps before he felt a spike of Darkness. He summoned his Keyblade as several Shadow Heartless appeared. They reacted to his weapon and lunged at him.
Tenebrae was able to jump back, out of reach. Any that got close, he was able to block and deflect the attacks. Tenebrae was surprised with how much faster he had gotten. The Heartless seemed to be moving slower than normal.
Tenebrae focused his mana and summoned a dark fireball. He thrusted his arm forward and let loose a barrage of fireballs. Within a few seconds, the grove of trees was covered in smoke and sand. After the dust settled, the Heartless were gone. The fire had done its job and destroyed them.
"Got them," Tenebrae cheered. He immediately regretted it as a pain shot through his head. "What the hell?"
Tenebrae felt his Light surge. It started to pulse and was hurting him. He coughed into his hand, not realizing how bad his body hurt. When he pulled his hand back, Tenebrae was surprised to see blood on his palm.
'Damn, why is it getting harder to use the Darkness?' Tenebrae thought as he clutched his chest. He walked through the beach to go back to the main area of the island. 'Has encountering the Princesses of Heart done something to me? Or has it just been my own mindset? But at least I have learned a bit from each of them.'
Tenebrae was able to make it back to the main part of the island with little difficulty. The sun was high in the sky. The light from the sun was warming and relaxing. Tenebrae sat on the beach, listening to the waves.
'Each of the Princesses embodied a positive trait of Light,' Tenebrae thought as he heard the teens from the Island come back. He turned to them, focusing on Kairi. 'But what is it that Kairi embodies?' -
And there is the chapter! This chapter was fun to write, especially with how much fun the Destiny Island minigames are in the beginning of KH1. I will admit, i lost too many time to Riku, but after learning patterns of the others I had some confidence after.
If anyone noticed, you'll see where we are as far as the games timeline is concerned. So, let's see how well i usd my context clues.
Until next time, may your heart be you guiding key.
